Louie's is essentially a neighborhood bar. Â As a relatively new member of the neighborhood, I REALLY want to call this place 'my bar', but I can't. Â I have been in there several times over the last year or so, and never made to feel like I was welcomed, just the opposite..like I am interrupting the bartender from her social time with the TRUE regulars. The food is decent enough, but hard to enjoy in that environment. Â Being the stubborn person I am, I will probably make one more attempt in the near future, but Louie's is definitely running out of chances.
Review Source:I came here the other night with my friend who had been here before and raved up and down about portions, and taste, smells, ecc. All good. We walked into this place, which seemed like every other pub I've been into in Boston, only possibly darker. The bar was filled up - Friday around 8? The dining area was pretty well full as well.
We got artichoke/spinach dip to start. It is whipped or something. It's really smooth, compared to other places I've had it. Loads of artichoke hearts. Soooo tasty. I hardly had space for my entree when it came.
I got "BCZ" which turned out to be the largest plate of broccoli, chicken and pasta meal I'd ever been offered. It had strange bits of corn in it, it was a butter sauce, not a cream sauce, which I'm familiar with... Also it wasn't ziti - as described on the menu. It was just spaghetti... Whatever. I had it for lunch the next day heated up it was just as good - needed a little kick with pepper, red pepper and salt to take it up a couple notches.
My friend got the "Plymouth dinner" or something like that. Turkey, mashed potatoes, ecc. She said it was exceptional.
The back of my chair felt like it might fall off at any point in time. The strange divider/fence/railing thing that goes on between the bar and the dining area is kind of an eyesore, and there is carpeting in the dining area - if I remember correctly, it was VERY dark in there, so who knows... The place could use a wee bit of a face lift, but our waitress was really nice, very prompt, and helpful.
