Dad and I just discovered the Lynwood Carry Out today. We were heading west from Merrilville on US 30 and getting a bit hungry. Dad say's he thinks there's a little sandwich shop in a building that used to be a "Hoosier Pete's" gas station (back in the 1940's.) We checked it out and it is a jewel!
Located about 6 or 8 miles west of I-65 on the North side of US 30, they have gyros, Italian beef sandwiches, Vienna beef hot dogs, Polish sausage, and hamburgers. Dad got a Polish and I got a couple of Viennas and we shared an order of  real French Fries. Wow! There is just no comparison between real food like this and the plastic fast food crap that's scattered all up and down our interstate system. (Yes, I realize this also is not health food, but the quality difference is so great.)
Maybe I never had a Vienna all-beef hot dog before, but they are GOOD. The steamed bun and your choice of all the standard Chicago fixins really makes it happen. I didn't get to taste it but Dad seemed to be enjoying his Polish sausage, too. The REAL POTATO French fries were REAL GOOD -- hard smooth outside, and creamy on the inside. Perfect!
As the name says, it is a carry out place. There are no seats, so you will probably want to plan on eating in your car. To me the place just had a wonderful atmosphere. Prices are super reasonable. Two dogs, a canned soda and fries was 3.99, I think. The staff were friendly and fun to interact with. I can't wait to get back to the Lynwood Carry Out!
