Food was decent for an Irish Pub, but the service was lacking.

Been there twice now and loved it. The interior is absolutely fantastic. My favorite Atlanta bar of all time was Fado--the original, not the shiny new one. This bar is as close to that authentic feel as I've found. I've only been during off hours though, so i can imagine it gets crowded and tight quickly. Service was good and attentive. And guess what? That controversial red they chose for the exterior? I like that, too. Extensive beer selection. I'm not a beer expert, other than just loving it in general, so I can't give you a lot of insight there, other than to say that I've liked what I've tried so far. I had the shepherd's pie both times which was great. I only take off one star because I do feel the food prices are a tad high.

Went back for Alive After Five.

    Sat on the balcony.

Ordered the "hand cut fries". Curry sauce was so weak and the horseradish wasn't much better. Some of the fries were limp and over cookeed - double fried.

This place really is turning out to be sub standard. Such a shame.

3 different tables had fish and chips delivered. The fish STANK. So bad I doubt a cat would have eaten it.

I'm quite surprised by all of the positive reviews.  I'm fairly easy to please, and except for the good service, I was completely underwhelmed by Mac McGee.

Firstly, their menu is certainly authentic.  It may be too authentic.  It most definitely is overpriced.  I ordered fish and chips, normally a safe bet at an Irish pub.  For $15, I was served a large portion of french fries, and a one relatively small filet of cod.  For what I paid, I was extremely disappointed with the portion size.  I hate being ripped off for food, but I can't help but feel that I was in this case.

My girlfriend ordered the beet salad, which was basically a plate of greens and a mountain of lentils.  As she took her first bite, a disgusted look appeared on her face, and she had to send it back.  It was that bad.  And it was like $10.

Of course my thrill-seeking friends ordered the cow's tongue appetizer.  I could have told them how that would go down.  More pained faces and cries of disgust soon followed.

I wish I could report back with better news, but many people at my table shared my dissatisfied opinion of this place.  It's a great atmosphere with mediocre-at-best food that is extremely overpriced.  My guess is once the novelty wears off, this place won't make the cut in the extremely competitive strip on Canton St.

I am an Irish pub fan and have seen the good reviews for this place so stopped by recently to try it out.

This pub has a very authentic feel with the wooden booths and decor.  I sat at the bar on the lower level since there was a private party going on upstairs.  Otherwise, I think the outside porch upstairs is the place to be.

If you are a beer drinker, their selection of beers on tap is good but as you would expect for an Irish pub leans towards Irish/British selections.  I was a little disappointed that the beer list on their website is not kept up to date, because there was a Red Brick draft listed on the web site that was not available on tap.  At the downstairs bar, there were about 10 beers on tap; the upstairs bar had a different selection, but they do bring drafts down from upstairs to downstairs, so don't let that stop you from ordering something you don't see.

I had the Left Hand Nitro Stout, which is one of my favorites, and a Scottish IPA that was just OK.

The bar seating is a little on the small size, with room for about 8 people, so I can imagine if you don't go on off hours like I did in the late afternoon it could be crowded and lack seating.  It's not really the right place if you're a sports bar fan, since they only had one screen playing a soccer game even though there was a Braves game going on at the same time.

The service was excellent and the Scottish bartender serving that afternoon was very friendly and attentive.

I ordered their chips (fries) based on recommendations I have seen in other reviews.  I strongly recommend them.  They did indeed taste like they used hand cut potatoes.  You have a choice of extra dipping sauces, which is a nice plus, and I chose a horseradish cream sauce, which was excellent.

I definitely plan on trying this place again and would like to see how they do with fish and chips and other pub staples that they have on their menu.

THE BOOK OF WHISKEY. Sorry, I don't usually "shout" in my reviews but DAMN, it's good. And I LOVE IT. And it's AWESOME. And I think it's AWESOME. Oh sorry, repeated that last one....

AND they have this thing called a WHISKEY FLIGHT. You should try it. You get 3 types of whiskey/bourbon of your choice and you can taste them while reading the descriptions of each - best enjoyed with a friend because its fun to compare the differences with another person.

You've been informed and you're welcome.

They say you don't know what you've got until it's gone, and this was certainly true of me missing the late night fried delights of the United Kingdom. One of the things I found myself missing most were the mounds of chips (fries for the uninitiated) served with the ubiquitous curry sauce on the side for dipping. It could set you right no matter how many brain cells you had killed off that evening.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased -- nay, THRILLED -- to report that the best chips and curry sauce I've ever had are currently being served at the excellent Mac McGee's in Roswell. I kid you not. I've actually had dreams about them since.

Also on offer is a range of pub classics that will likely have me buying bigger pants over the next couple of months. There's also a whole mess of bourbon and some excellent beers on tap.

But the chips... my God... the chips. Excuse me while I kiss this fry.

Really like the atmosphere. Beers are a bit pricey, but they have a decent selection. As far as food, I've only tried the fries with curry sauce and the smoked salmon tater tots (they were delicious, but you only get three, so keep that in mind if you're going to be sharing). Mac McGee is also one of the only bars to stay open later than all the other places in downtown Roswell, which is a definite bonus!

When Pasti's moved next door I thought the space was perfect for an Irish pub.  I was thrilled to see Mac Magee's take this great space. We visited on opening night and, despite a few minor hiccups, truly enjoyed this new edition to the Canton St scene. The beer selection was very impressive with 30 taps pouring Irish pub standards and a few nice surprises. Eventually, according to the manager, they will have 500 whiskys available.  We ordered the curry fries as an appetizer and they were awesome. The fries were great, though I preferred plain or malt vinegar to the curry. I had the steak tartare with more fries for my meal. Nice job on this.
The two story space with balcony is great. It's very conducive to groups enjoying good conversation with a drink and bite. Magee's is a nice edition to the Roswell square and fills a niche that needed filling.

"I want to play for the Irish." -- Rudy (1993)

What a great pub!  "Just look for the red building," is what I was told by Brent H. when venturing up here for the first time (for an event) and he was not kidding.  They have renovated this building into an amazingly beautiful Irish pub with booths, vaulted ceilings and not one, but two gorgeous bars.

I did not partake in much from the menu (again, I was here for an event), but the two items I tried were both winners in my book.  First, a couple of people ordered the fries. - listed as curry chips on the menu, of course.  These were some delicious fries and quite a hearty portion served vertically in a cute bucket with a curry dipping sauce.  The curry was mild (as with English curry) and the fries were perfectly salted.

Item two was all me - Curried lamb turnovers - all you had to do was say lamb and I was in.  They were two phyllo turnovers, stuffed with mildly curried braised lamb served on a bed of yogurt with herbs and onions.  Delightful.  The crispy fried phyllo kept the lamb moist and delicious and the yogurt was a nice tangy accompaniment.  It could have used a little more punch, but again - English curry, so it was about right.

I love the atmosphere, love the food and they have quite the selection of beer and whiskey to accomodate any tastes.  I'll be back again.

We go here a lot. Good beer and cider. Wine list not so great, nor the bloody marts. Food great. Try the home made black pudding ,my favorite. Also the chicken livers. The waiter that we had on our last visit, Willie, was awesome.Love him:))

(I ported this review over from one I wrote about Mac Magee's. That's how you spell it).

I first became a fan of Mac Magee's at their original location in the Decatur Square. But that's pretty far for me - so when they opened up in Roswell, my wife and I were thrilled. She's a big fan of the fish and chips. I think the shepherd's pie is unbeatable. The selection of whiskeys (Irish and Scotch) is mind-boggling. Look for Casey - he's usually there in the afternoons and evenings and he KNOWS HIS WHISKEYS! Great authority if you're looking to try something new or obscure. The atmosphere is great - the space is tremendous and the crowd is always friendly. I strongly recommend this place.

Roswell is the newest location of the iconic Decatur bar. The tradition of shouting at the TV when your favorite Brit soccer (football for the Brits) team is behind while holding a great beer lives on in the burbs. I understand they also show American Football in season. The draft beer selection is amazing. It includes many great American craft beers and the traditional Brit fare.

It is primarily a bar with pub grub. The food is not too bad, but it is a little greasy which is how it should be. The service is almost non existent but very pleasant -- Just go to the bar to get the next beer and pay there before you leave. This could be the most authentic recreation of an Irish pub in the city. If you want snappy service and fancy food, go down the street to Applebys.

I wanted to like this place--have heard really good things about the Decatur site, and Roswell is much closer for us.   The interior is cool, and the way they've broken it up with booths and tables (and had seated 3 groups w/kids in another room- great!)

The service and food were, however, not great. The waitress came back 5 minutes after we ordered to "double check" on what we'd ordered-first red flag! When a server (not our waitress) brought our food, mine was a meat pie, not veggie. I took a bite and that was enough. The "greens" were a few leaves of a bagged salad with a blah vinaigrette. But-my boyfriend's Reuben WAS really good--wish I 'd ordered it.
No one bothered to check back with us (on an uncrowded rainy day) until we were nearly finished. A manager came by, I asked about the pie, and he admitted they had made a mistake & he'd take care of it.(he didn't) He went back downstairs, our check came, and rather than make a scene, we just paid and left.
I fault both the server AND the manager. If she had checked back after our food came, if he'd comped the entree, if either had acted like they appreciated our business--I would go back. But I won't--there are many other great places in Roswell.

I cannot remember the last time I went to a restaurant and left completely satisfied! I can't wait for my next visit.

This is the place to go if you want to learn about whisky vs whiskey.  Thank you Matt for being so patient with the 101 questions. I can say that I would not have ever gained so much knowledge had you not taken the time.

Some may wonder with all my praise why only gave 4 stars, I personally don't ever give 5 stars because we all have room for improvement in some area.  I can honestly say with Mac Mcgee in its current state it has to be behind closed doors. AWESOME JOB!

Wondering why my experience was so subpar compared to the earlier reviews. Terrible service -- as in completely forgot a food order, 20 minute wait for drinks, no check in to see if we needed refills, short pour on the wine. Place is visually darling but I recommend you sit at the bar and skip the food. It's mediocre and the service is unbelievably bad.

Great atmosphere - Soccer on the TV and a deep beer selection. This is a place to come for a Irish conversation and sample the whiskey. The menu is well rounded and rich in traditions.  Sláinte!

First of all, Canton Street really needed an Irish pub on the strip. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out. People complaining about the bright red exterior are just old ninnies who have no sense of style and who think the color red didn't exist in historic societies...

The color red is actually a super-traditional look for a pub or tavern in Ireland, so it's fitting that they went with it at Mac McGee. Plus, the original Decatur location is red as well. It makes the bar pop and brightens up the entire street.

Inside, you'll find knick-knacks of every variety on the walls and on shelving. It's hard to find a spot in the pub that doesn't have a cool little trinket or picture to inspect while sipping on a pint of your favorite ale. There are two floors; the first floor is a bit darker and cozier with a smaller bar. The restrooms are located on this floor and the floor below. The second floor, located up a very cool staircase, has an open feel and also boasts a private room with skylight for whisk(e)y tastings. The opposite side of the second floor has a great balcony and a large bar with a wonderful draft beer selection. The balcony is perfect for waving at friends, or looking over the old street and into the small park across the way.

The food at Mac McGee is all made from scratch or sourced from local Atlanta farms. It's GREAT. The Mussels are the best I've ever had. Hands down. I've had them in France and I like the ones at Mac McGee more. The fries are the best on the street -- hand-cut and fried in pork fat. Yum.

I'd recommend the Burger & Rasher (Irish bacon, which is AMAZING), Croque Madame, and Steak-Frites. If you're looking for more traditional Irish fare, check out the Corned Beef Sandwich, Shepherd's Pie, or Fish and Chips. Also, the "Boxty" (potato pancake with poached quail's egg on top in creamy mustard sauce) is the perfect bar snack and will only run you up 3 bucks. Every soup I've tried so far is great--but they're seasonal. So far I've had the Oxtail & Barley, and Potato Leek. If you've got a sweet tooth, definitely spring for the Banoffee Pie.

The service is wonderful. Really knowledgeable staff. If you've got a question about something you can't pronounce or want to try a beer, just ask!

This place is perfect for Roswell. With all of the affluent older crowd on this street that is really into Bourbon/Scotch/Whisk(e)y, it's sure to explode. Think about it; where else around here can you find an entire BINDER full of whisk(e)y, scotch and bourbon to choose from? And all that complete with the correct & matching glassware.

And oh yeah, check out their hours! Mac McGee stays open later than almost everywhere else around--so it's great with the partying crowd, too.

Get your arse out to Mac McGee and have an awesome time watching a soccer game and having a pint of ale or a glass of whisk(e)y you've never tried before (or couldn't find elsewhere).

I've been anxious to get up here after hearing they were opening soon, so I finally made it up Friday night for a drink or two and to survey the place out. Parking blows of course in this area, so plan on walking or paying out the ass for valet. Just part of the grind in this busy, high traffic area.
Decatur people will recognize this Mac McGee's instantly, as the big red front stands out along the slew of Canton Street bars. For everyone else, it's the place with the red front, easy to spot. The doors are doubled here and open during busy nights, so it's a very inviting place. Inside, very warm Irish feel, just like the Decatur location, only bigger. I'd say it's a little wider overall and deeper, and there's a second floor that's nearly the same size, so it's easily 110% more room than the Decatur location. Otherwise it's very much the same feel and decor, with a bar downstairs and up top, and a small balcony to walk out on, though it's only sized for a few people. Good beer list, same good food, very well put together. Only drawback I've had was the clientele, it's Roswell so there's fewer relaxed people and more 'stuffy' attendees, can't help that but for me it goes a long way in how long I want to stay, and at two hours I've maxed out my patience. I'd suspect a less busy night or at lunch it's a much better feel, so I'll try that soon as I have the time.

I love new places in downtown Roswell. I love, love, love the decor.  It's classic/tacky.  There are two bars, one upstairs and one down.  The waiter that helped us was super friendly and helpful with menu and drink choices.  The food seemed a little on the spendy side, but it well worth it.  I had the steak frite dinner with fries and practically licked the plate it was so good.  I can't wait to go back and try a few more things.

My date and I stumbled into this place on an Easter Sunday afternoon. Originally looking for a coffee place, we were intrigued by the entrance, so we walked in and it was like love at first sight. I know, I know. This is kinda cheesy considering a Yelper should never judge a restaurant's food by the decor, however we were entranced by everything in the pub from the piano in the corner, to the bar, to the skylit room on the top floor in the back, and to the upstairs patio/balcony. Then later when I was looking for the restroom, I saw a basement! There's just so much character to this place and I love it. But enough about the decor.

I ordered an Irish coffee and man, it was just way too strong for me. It was more like liquor with a splash of coffee. I think the taste got a little bit better towards the bottom. By this time, my date and I were just hanging out on the porch. It's really a great place to people watch even if it's raining.

We eventually ordered some food. We had the curry chips and the adorable little boxty. The fries were delicious and the sauce was damn good. I can only imagine all the other things that could be used with the sauce as it wasn't quite as mustardy as I thought it would taste. As for the boxty, which is a small potato pancake with a quail egg sunny-side-up, it was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it all and the portions were great for a snack.

I can't wait to go back. It's just such a cool place to hang out.

A solid Pub on Canton Street. The famously red Mac McGees of Decatur has opened in the former location that originally housed Pastis. An amazing renovation has turned this dilapidated building into a multi-floor, dual bar pub with authentic snug booths and decoration sourced from over the pond.

We scoured through the scotch and whisky listings and were impressed with all the various offerings. Then sampled our way through chicken liver, haddock, seafood chowder, soda bread, and all the well prepared pub classics. Cant wait to come back and try the shepherds pie, irish breakfast, fish & chips and other goodies.

Very open, clean, inviting with plenty of room to pack the folks in and also enjoy a bit of privacy in the booths too. Prices were very reasonable and service attentive and friendly.

As expected, football (the Euro kind) was on the tele as well as other American sports. Will be a great place to catch FIFA, EUFA, Rugby and other matches.

Looking forward to patio weather once again and those coveted spots on the balcony!

Went the second day they were open.  Neat space, will need to re- review once I sample some food but the place was very well done, had some great live entertainment and a knowledgeable and friendly staff.  This is close to where many of my friends appear to be moving (OTP) and looks to be a great time.  I will be back to be sure.

Mac you are here now! You provided great hospitality when we visited Decatur! Great food and an introduction to some great whiskey!   But now you are here!  And we are here! And it is St Paddy's!!!!!!!   Welcome to Roswell!

Mac's has created an awesome space here in Roswell with two bars, quaint cozy's, great beers on drought, an extensive whiskey list, and a creative menu!!!  We love what you've done to the place!!!

For our St Paddy's visit, I had the ploughman's lunch with the cool tomato chutney- washed down with hard to find Murphy's Stout!!!  My one and only had an extremely fresh salad with bacon, tomatoes and buttermilk dressing with the Kilkenney Cream Ale (also hard to find).

For St Paddy's they had great live music and a good deal of energy.  It is likely that i will be parting with a great deal of money at this place!!!
