Still 2 stars, but I feel the need to update because they FINALLY have duck sauce! Â So I'd like to be able to add some star power for the addition of duck sauce, but I can't because the service was horrendous. Â We had dinner here tonight after not eating here for at least a year. Â I was on the road for work during the week and for some reason was craving lo mein all the way back to Denver. Â The food is still just OK. Â As happy as I was to see the duck sauce, I was unhappy to see they'd changed their egg rolls. Â They're about 1/3 of the size they used to be, not what you expect to get with your food. Â Even worse, I have NO idea what the filling was - it was a weird mushy kind of unrecognizable something. Â And on a sad note, our service tonight was awful. Â We ate at the bar, and our bartender screwed up my drink order, my soup and my dining companions request for "no onions on anything." Â When I mentioned that I hadn't ordered the won ton soup, but rather the hot and sour, it was very clear that she was certainly not going to fix her mistake. Â She glared at me, said she was positive I ordered won ton and then grudgingly offered to get me the soup I ordered. Â I decided to stick with the won ton because at that point it was just easier, and I was hungry and tired. Â I would probably go back in a pinch, because it's close and easy. Â But otherwise I'll continue on the quest for decent Chinese food on this end of town.
Review Source:Hidden treasure! Funky place with amazing Chinese food! Lo mein and orange chicken are the best I've ever had! Holy cow that was a surprise for sure considering the atmosphere.  Apparently the hot and sour soup is good there as it was sold out by 7:30. The owner is  really cool too.  It was referred to us from friends in Los Angeles and we were all glad they did!  Next time we visit Denver we will make it a point to stop here again!
Review Source:This place was hard to find being tucked in the corner of a shopping center near Elvis Cinema. It's been around for 38 years under the same ownership. Â The present cook, Simon, is Chinese and has been there for 8 years.
The decor both exterior and interior is Spartan but the friendly waitresses and manager, all women, make you feel at home. Â Lots of regulars here, especially for happy hour from 4 to 6 Â and you can watch sports on the 3 tvs at the bar.
The food is very reasonably priced and, in addition to Chinese food, you can get the usual American food like burgers and grilled cheese. Â
I had the Egg Foo Young and was pleased getting a filling meal of 3 pancakes smothered in a mild brown gravy served with soup, rice and an eggroll for $7.95. Â
Tofu is served here as well as vegetable dishes. Â You should be able to find something that you like. Â I'm waiting for a good movie to come to Elvis Cinema so I can combine a meal and a movie.
This is what people mean when they are "slumming" on a Saturday night. Â
We stopped in for dinner before the late movie at the Elvis, and the place was dead except for some regulars at the bar who provided some entertaining conversation. Â This place reminds me of a bar I used to go to in NJ while I was still underage.... very comfy, cheap, and safe.
Boyfriend ordered off the chinese menu - he wasn't thrilled with the egg roll or the hot and sour soup (I liked the soup, myself). The Kung Pao was good, tho.
I had the 1/2 fried chicken dinner - it was just what I had hoped for. Â Freshly fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and 2 dinner rolls. Â The only thing missing was the green beans that had been promised, but I didn't notice that until we had already left. Â I saved the breast for cold fried chicken leftovers the next day and it was great.
The beers are domestic crap, the service was great. Â I'd eat here again without hesitation.
The main problem with this place is the location. Its way to small and its right next to the movie theater so there is no parking. other than that its great. the bands are usually good and the food is great. The staff is very friendly, when i first got there i had a 10 minute conversation with the owner. It was awesome.
Review Source:I love to grab a quick bite at Madrid Lounge most anytime after I have gone to a movie at Elvis Cinemas which is next door. Â This place is a hole in the wall but the food is amazing! Â American and Chinese fare as well as a full service bar are to be found in this tiny little strip mall restaurant.
Madrid Lounge must have a dozen reasonably priced lunch specials that you can get Monday thru Friday. Â Both American and Chinese meals can be found on this value lunch menu. Â The overall menu is gigantic as well. Â Some of my favorites here are the club sandwich and fries, sesame chicken and fried rice, egg foo young, crab cheese wontons and some very delicious hot n spicy soup. Â Most everything I have ordered is less than $10 and they give you gigantic portions, so be prepared to take plenty home with you! Â This place also has a soup of the day in addition to the Hot N Spicy soup - but I have never tried any of the other soups because I am sold on the Hot N Spicy.
Alot of old timers make this place home and most everytime I go in they are there talking about old wartime injuries and such - but they are cute and crack me up! Â The bar is always hopping with old timers as well and can get loud, but if you pick a booth on the opposite side of the room, you can avoid any problems if noise is a factor in your dining experience. Â The theme seems to be cowboys judging by the wall art and the overall feel of the place itself is of a 1970's lounge.
The asparagus stir fry is absolutely phenomenal served with thinly sliced beef marinated in teriakyi sauce. Â It is enough for two or half can definetely be brought home for later. Â They serve some fantastic dinner rolls with the meals here which is a nice touch. Â I am really glad I put aside my reservations about Madrid Lounge soley on the appearance of the place from the outside. Â The aromas, tastes and cuisine inside will keep you coming back !
Delicioso? Haochi? Delicious? Anyway you want to say it, Madrid Lounge had some deeeelish Chinese food!
Who would have thought that a somewhat "hole in the wall" would offer such an array of Chinese-American food. No, not fusion...Chinese AND American food. You can pick either one from two separate sides of the menu.
You can order Egg Foo Yung with a side of Liver and Onions.
We walked in here after a movie at the Elvis, it looked cool, something I would totally love. I still haven't found great Chinese food since I moved to Colorado. I used to work in a fine dining Chinese restaurant that will never compare to anywhere I eat but this came unexpectedly close!
Upon our entrance we were greeted with a handshake by one of the crooners, "Magic Moments - singing the best of the 50s, 60s and 70s." We were definitely the youngest people in the place by about 10 years or so, besides the waitresses but it didn't matter. The live music reminded me of my dad's old tapes from the 50s and 60s and of my grandpa. He'd totally dig this place if you could still smoke in restaurants!
The drinks. My bf and our friend felt sorta "gangster" so they ordered dirty vodka martinis and they were good, really good!
ANND the food, we ordered the Mongolian Chicken dinner, it came with a starter of warmed, pillowy bread, butter and crackers, choice of soup, egg roll and rice. We added an order of Crab Cheese Wontons.
My boyfriend and I top 5 everything... rating bloody marys, bread, wontons, noodle bowls, french fries...By far, these were the best wontons I have had in a good while. Full of cream cheese/crabby goodness and fried to perfection. The mongolian chicken had almost a smoky tasty to it, the green onions and green peppers were sauteed to perfection. Amazing.
We will be back in the future for their different live bands every Friday & Saturday. La comida a Madrid Lounge was Haochi!!!!
Went here with 2 friends before a movie tonight. Â This is a hard place to describe...it feels like eatery combined with dive bar. Â It has absolutely nothing Spanish-oriented about it that I saw...but it does have some pretty tasty items -- their battered calamari strips were pretty good and not chewy and nasty, and I ordered the first thing I saw on their menu that had a cute name -- "steak kow". Â Really? Heh. I gotta check it out. Â So...that turned out to be "happy family" minus the chicken chunks plus cubed beef steak, I think sirloin tips. Â I got through half and boxed the rest. Â For me, I couldn't go wrong with that dish...water chestnuts, snow peas, grilled onions in that "happy family" sauce, and they brought me lo mein noodles when requested instead of pointless rice; also came with an egg roll. Â For $9, not bad at all. Â Their margaritas were also tasty. Â There's not a whole ton else within 2 miles of here that isn't a chain restaurant, and you could do a whole lot worse than coming here. Â Waitresses, fwiw, dressed a little too casual, but wtf, this isn't fine dining. Â The food was good, not great, and that's good enough for 3 stars. (Oh, also the place was packed at 6:45pm on a Friday...wouldn't be packed if the grub wasn't at least acceptable.)
Review Source:Madrid Lounge has been in Arvada for a while. Â I moved into the neighborhood about 5 yrs ago, and a neighbor of mine had mentioned that its decent Chinese food...A place called Madrid lounge has decent Chinese food. Â hopefully you see the irony in that.
I had General Lao's chicken, it was...OK...just OK. Â I've had better, Â its a neighborhood lounge in a strip mall. Â I have to describe the inside. Â Its a bar. Â That's fine, i love bars. Â With cowboy pictures on the wall and bar decor behind the ...bar (pictures of old cars and Elvis). Â That serves Chinese food.
I'd go back to have a beer or 2 or 10 before going to the movies next door.
word.
Oh, Madrid.
Madrid will forever hold a special place in my heart. Â I grew up in the neighborhood and my first job was just doors down, so we go a ways back. Â I love the delicious food, that you wouldn't expect to find in a lounge still caught in the 70s, let alone, a lounge in this deteriorating part of Arvada.
Make sure you try the french dip (as it is my all time favorite) and get a healthy order of the french fries!
