Eating downtown at 10pm can be difficult in Steamboat.  Luckily, we were directed to Mahogany.  Their kitchen was no longer serving entrees, but all appetizers  were half price.  The food was great and the service was excellent.  I really enjoyed the fish tacos, elk-jalapeño sausage, and maple-duck sausage.  Skip the mushrooms.
Review Source:Great Honey Blonde! My hubby and I tried 3 tapas each during Happy Hour. All were very good! Happy hour starts at 4 with 1/2 drinks and $1 tapas.
There is outside seating, which seems to be the preferred spot. It filled up fast.
We refilled our growler before leaving with what else... Honey Blonde.
We will definitely be back here at some point during our travels.
The happy hour menu is AWESOME. Â After a splash at the hot springs, this place is a much needed source of energy. Â The drinks are tasty, the root beer is very good. Â Pricey, but good! Â The steak skewers, called something I can't spell or pronounce, are awesome as well. Â The sauces pair excellently. Â You can't go wrong with the pretzel with the porter sauce. Â The fish tacos are also great.... and the corn bread. Â If it weren't for the happy hour price, I'd be a little skinnier.
If you miss happy hour, the Buffalo NY strip is also very good.
They have an incredible happy hour. The tapas are $1 a piece and you can try all of them for $10 (plus tax and tip). I had to try all (was doing a happy hour crawl) and also had the flight of beer for $5. If you go to Mahogany Ridge for happy hour you'll be full for dinner and ready to go to the bars/Ghost Ranch or get up early to ski/ride the next morning.
Review Source:Sat at the bar during an nfl playoff game. It wasn't too packed, but we were seated immediately in the bar section so we didnt have to wait! I had the GF salmon with grilled vegetables (sub for rice), which had a great rub. Brother had the Emerald Burger with pesto, Gorgonzola and bacon - he couldn't stop raving about it!
Review Source:Not sure what Im missing. Â We tried the sampler of beers and virtually all tasted watery. Â The tapas were either over or under seasoned and the wait staff was rushed and not as friendly as they could be in a touristy town. Â The only saving grace was the elk filet...pretty tasty but the overall experience was a bit of a let down.
Review Source:Like reviewers before me, I must point out the excellent happy hour from 4-5:30pm. Seems early, but it's really not- you'll be off the slopes and ready for a beer by then for sure! $2 drafts from their own brewery, $4.50 glasses of wine, etc. It's a great deal.
Nothing from the $1 tapas menu really stood out to me, to be honest. They're frozen appy type things. Two phyllo dough concoctions per order.
But you know what knocked my socks off? The burger. Oh yeah. Mushrooms, onion swiss. And perhaps one of the best food decisions I made all vacation- swap the fries for the...wait for it...
twice-baked truffled potato. Yes. Worth the $2, trust me.
Service was great- our server was about to take my boyfriend's near-empty glass, then put it back down so Zack could take the last swig.
Highly recommend.
You must eat at Mahogany if you visit Steamboat. A brew pub with an amazing menu. Try the pretzel .. I kid you not. Soft, home made in house with an amazing Porter Cream dipping sauce. Also a great ceviche and an oustanding fried chicken in a Maple Gravy. Don't think of it as a brew pub. This is an innovative gastronomic delight.
Review Source:Note, the stars are simply for the service, not the food.
We looked on Yelp and were excited to try this place due to the reviews. Â All was fine when we got there, and even though they were very busy, they seated us quickly. Â It went south from there.
I ordered the cheese soup, and it tasted like watered down potatoe soup with zero flavor. Â Once our main meal arrived, my penne pasta with shrimp (with the shrimp costing an extra $5), was also tasteless and just plain bad. Â The shrimp was over-grilled and disgusting. Â My huband's fish and chips were just plain Jane stuff out of the freezer. Â My kids ordered quesadillas, and it was literally a small quesadilla with nothing else. Â After we left, we had to stop at a sandwhich shop to get my son a sandwich so he actually had something to eat that night. Â Â The bill was quite hefty, and we were sorely disappointed. Â We even opted out of dessert because we figured it would be the same mess.
We love Steamboat restaurants, and this was by far the worst food we've ever had in the city. Â We definetely will never go back when we're there again. Â Â Complete waste of money that night. Â We actually walked out a bit stunned because it was so bad.
Wow, what a great brewery in Steamboat! Not only was the food phenomenal, but the beer was pretty good too. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was the fact that the menu was a little off for a brewery. It seemed to have that upscale pub food, but they threw in an Asian flavor along with Southwestern which seemed a little odd to me. Otherwise, I really can't complain. There are two apps you cannot miss...the ceviche and the pretzel with cheese and porter cream sauce. OMG! The ceviche had nice big chunks of ahi tuna in it that just melt in your mouth and the pretzel slathered in the porter cream sauce is outta this world.
As for the entrees, my dad ordered the Santa Fe burger and proclaimed that it might possibly be the best burger he's ever had. My mom ordered the tournedos which she said were mini versions of the filet that I ordered. Both were cooked to perfection and the sauces complimented them perfectly. My only complaint would be the bacon dipping sauce. It was a little salty and bacony for my liking and I am a girl that loves her bacon. The truffled baked potato was awesome though. My brother had the buffalo strip and before I had a chance to try a bite, he had devoured it. Testament to the fact that it was tasty.
And let's not forget about the beer. My brother recommended the Alpenglow, but I opted for the Dunkelweizen instead. It was good, but maybe a tad bit of banana and cloves, but was good overall. I probably should have gone with the Alpenglow as it was an awesome amber ale. My brother also ordered a Clause Pale Ale that was served on nitrogen for a creamy texture. Unfortunately it fell completely flat for the both of us.
I will definitely be back again though, especially to check out their killer $1 tapas happy hour.
We had the Garlic Sage Rubbed Buffalo Steak and Tandoori Spiced Yellowfin Tuna for entrees and I had the mini-Elk Shepherd's Pie as an appetizer and all of these were really good. Â Great mashed potatoes as well. Â The service was a bit spotty, but not awful. Â I typically like Pale Ales, but I wasn't overly impressed with the Pale Ale they are brewing here. Â Great place overall, I will try a different beer next time.
Review Source:A fairly standard American food restaurant
The nice touch was having a buffalo NY strip steak, but non-well drinks were pricey (twice as much), and no-one was thrilled with any of their food (Cobb salad, quinoa stuffed mushrooms, soup, mountain beef).
Their menu is diverse and interesting, but the reality is that most of the food doesn't shine -- it's pretty standard fare.
This place was recommended by the guy at the front desk at our timeshare. Â I looked at the menu in the 2013 Steamboat Springs Dining Guide. Â Entrees were $16.95-26.95, a little pricey for us. Â
This place was a little difficult to find. Â The guide only had an address of 5th Street and Lincoln Ave. Â The restaurant was located behind a pillar and had a small sign next to a flower shop.
We told the hostess that we were here for Happy Hour. Â She gave us the choice of sitting at the bar or in the dining area. Â She took us up a few steps to the dining area.
The Happy Hour $1 Tapas Menu was already on the table. Â Happy Hour was daily from 4:00pm-5:30pm. Â And the server told us they also have a late night Happy Hour after 9:30pm for 1/2 off appetizers on the regular menu.
We ordered a craft brew and a house-made rootbeer. Â Both were good and cheap on the Happy Hour menu.
From the Happy Hour Menu, we ordered:
Ghost Chile Dry Rubbed Wings (salty, but very meaty)
Spanish Chorizo and Marinated Olives (5 of each, a good value for $1)
Brie and Mango Filo Cups (rich filling with crisp shell-my husband's favorite)
Shrimp and Vegetable Money Bags (okay, but wouldn't order it again)
House Smoked Salmon Tostadas (flaked salmon and lettuce on a tortilla chip)
Carne Asada Taco (my favorite)
There was 2 of everything except for the taco and chorizo/olive tapas. Â
We would definitely return for Happy Hour and would like to try the Late Night Happy Hour.
Let me begin by saying that being from Denver I'm probably spoiled by our great craft brewers.
This brewery has an excellent location, a beautiful interior, great, fast and friendly staff. It just seemed to miss the mark on several different areas, which is why I consider it only average.
Firstly, it is located in the mountains of Colorado, but its strange asian/mexican infused menu seemed like it was beamed in from outer-space. Â Not that it was bad, we ordered the tapas style happy hour and it was above average (especially for a dollar for each item). But it seemed like it belonged in Santa Fe, or Aspen, not Steamboat.
The beer was standard fair for craft beer. Good, but nothing to write home about.
And it seemed too nice inside, no barn wood, no rustic cowboy stuff.
A safe place to go, but too safe if you ask me.
This place is easy to find and I really enjoyed the fact that it was a large interior yet it was cozy and intimate. The ambiance was great for a date or a romantic dinner. They can also accommodate large families and groups.
Obviously, this being a brewery, the beers are awesome. My girl had the Elk River ESB which I liked and that is rare as I am not a big ESB guy. I had the Powder cat porter. Very tasty.
This place actually surprised me with their food menu. I was expecting more pub food but this place does it up a bit. My girl had the Tournedos and I had the Elk steak. The steak was made perfect and at one point, I had to stop myself because I was inhaling my food. It was delicious.
We finished off with a peanut butter torte. WOW. Highly recommend it.
Will certainly come back in here next time we are up in Steamboat.
This place has a great late night happy hour with delicious, high quality half-off appetizers. I had the cheese quesadilla with no onion and my husband had the Greek Saganaki and the Chicken Satay Platter. Everything was delicious and the satay platter came with some really tasty dipping sauces. My friend got the twisted pretzel which was huge, cheesy and full of flavor (she let me try some). It came with some of the same dipping sauces as the chicken satay. Â Their root beer was also really good.
The early happy hour looks even more amazing ($1 appetizers?! What?), so I'll be sure to check it out the next time I'm in Steamboat.
Great food and service. Â Wonderful menu across the board with creative food items, like lamb chops in a mushroom sauce with risotto. Â The filet steak was "off the hook". Â It was served with three unique dipping sauces and a twice baked potato with a twist, goat cheese. Â Amazing food but...
The beer was average.
(Evening of 7/6/12)
This review is strictly for the bar and bar menu:
The glasses of wine and cheese plate we ordered at the bar was delicious, however the service from the bartender was extremely POOR. This one star rating is for him, who was beyond inattentive and was pretty rude when he was. Yes, I am talking about the bald guy. I won't be back here on our next trip to town just because of the service, but if you choose to sit at the bar, wait for the other bartender to come your way, he looked like he was taking good care of people and earning every tip!
Steamboat is on the Western Slope and therefore Steven and I had some hesitancy as to how good this brewery may be. A while back we did a whirlwind tour of breweries along the I-70 corridor going down to Grand Junction which is also on the Western Slope. We were not impressed with most of our brewery stops then and were cautious as to how good Mahogany may be.
We were pleasantly surprised at how good the beer was! The porter was excellent and the Alpenglow also went down very smoothly!
We were meeting some friends here and we got supper here as well. I ordered the Vietnamese sizzling tofu which was fajita like almost because you ate it in the form of a lettuce wrap. Steve got a burger which also was very tasty!
When we went to Steamboat the Spring is called mud season because it is a transitional time where all of the skiers left town and the skiing is done for another year yet the summer crowds have not come in yet. Mostly because school is still going for most families. Despite that the place was still full of people and bustling to an otherwise sleepy downtown Steamboat. I don't even want to know how crazy this place might get during the summer or winter seasons! Best come here early to avoid waiting for a table. The food is worth waiting for but if you can avoid the wait then that is certainly the best course of action.
I visited for the happy hour and dollar tapas deal and I was not disappointed. Â Mahogany Ridge is located in a strip mall and has a pleasant, refined decor. Â The star of the show is the tapas, which is an absolute must-do if you are in the area from 4:00-5:30 pm. Â The tapas menu includes around ten items that vary from spicy jerk chicken wings to tacos to shrimp dumplings and more. Â It was a perfect snack while watching a college basketball game. Â The servings are tapas-sized, so they are usually about two pieces of finger food, although the carne asada taco was slightly larger and served on its own while the chorizo and olives had 4-5 pieces of each. Â I ordered five dishes for five dollars and was completely content. Â The bartender that was serving me was very pleasant and helpful while the other bar patrons were friendly and ready to chat.
Where Mahogany Ridge falls short in my happy hour experience was in two categories.  First off and most importantly, for being a brewery, I was unimpressed with the beer.  They have about six of their own brews on tap and both the brown and the Alpenglow ale were unremarkable.  They were not bad and were a satisfying accompaniment to my  snacks, but they were not were not particularly interesting or stimulating.  Secondly, the place felt a little boring.  It is obviously oriented towards families and nice dinners, but even then I was just completely bored by the ambiance and decor.  It is not ugly inside and in fact it is very well maintained and clean, but the dim lighting and dark wood felt bland where it should have projected elegance.
Overall, I enjoyed my happy hour and tapas at Mahogany Ridge. Â The ho-hum beer and bland atmosphere conspire to keep this gastropub at four stars, but the value of dollar tapas, cheap, cold, satisfying beer after a day of skiing cannot be beat.
So, on my first day on the mountain, I tear my ACL. After spending the afternoon in the doctors office, we decide to go out to eat. This place was recommended highly on Yelp, so we checked it out. It was much nicer than I thought. The food was a little pricey, but this is a ski town.
We walked in (me on crutches with a knee brace) and saw that it was packed. However, we just happened to find 6 places (2 couples and 2 teenage boys) at the bar and we bellied up to it. The service was great at the bar. We had waters immediately and were ordering drinks and food very quickly.
We ordered burgers and steaks. I split the buffalo steak dinner with the other female. We also ordered some chips and salsa. All the food was excellent.
I had the wheat beer and the two guys and the ale. Both were excellent. The  boys had the homemade root beers. Yum! Would I go back? Heck yes!
I have only been once, but I really enjoyed this place when we went in 2010. Â It is a brew pub, but I think it is much more
For example, I had elk with several dipping sauces - not your typical bar food
The beers are really good and that is a great reason to visit, but come hungry and you will not be disappointed
Can't go wrong...except when you show up the day before they tap the Scottish Ale with the ultimate Scottish Ale connoisseur. Oh well.
Mahogany Ridge has a great variety of meats, sauces, salads, etc. - love the menu, and I eat mostly paleo, i.e., I look for meat and veggies and REAL FOOD and read a lot of labels!
Went completely off the reservation with the peanut butter torte thing, though - as my 6-year-old would say, O -- M -- G. Wow. Yum!
When in the Boat, Mahogany Ridge is a must-do if you like brew-gastropubs in a warm atmosphere with above average service. We go every time we're in town.
Good for kids EARLY - we take ours at 5:30 sometimes.
My girlfriend and I were in Steamboat for the weekend and weren't totally sure where to go - very glad we lucked our way into Mahogany Ridge!
We walked in with no reservation at 8pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Â Our (delightful) server brought waters right away and had menus at the ready. Â She then proceeded to give us the specials for the night, including the wine we ultimately chose - a Spanish blend, 50% Garnacha/50% Tempranillo....for $26! Â Um...ok, twist my arm.
The menu is set up to showcase the extensive list of dipping sauces that dominate the right-hand side of the menu....almost so many that it's overwhelming, but it is all in good fun, so
We ordered the pork satay and chicken satay for appetizers and both were good, maybe overcooked, but that is almost too be expected in most American kitchens.  The dipping sauce trinity they came with was; wasabi  cream, sriracha miso and Thai peanut.  The pork was flavored enough to stand on its own but the dipping sauce is the name of the game so try it both ways.
For the entree, we asked our server if we could split something and it was no problem at all - she even asked if she could bring us an extra bowl so we could split the dinner salad. Â We split the sage and garlic rubbed buffalo NY strip with roasted vegetables and roasted garlic mashed potatoes (it comes with white cheddar mashed potatoes but my g/f is lactose-intolerant so we asked if we could have the other kind - no problem at all). Â The dipping sauces were almost superfluous - the meat had enough flavor to hold its own, no doubt. Â That having been said, we opted for the Soy Mignonette (I thought was the best match with our protein), Smoked Tomato Demi-Glace (my girlfriend's favorite) and the Thai BBQ (pretty good). Â The wine that our server recommended went nicely with all phases of the meal. Â
Dessert was some chocolate concoction of some sort - I'll have to ask my girlfriend and update that.
Overall, I was greatly pleased, would go back in a heartbeat and would certainly recommend it.
Came here LATE on a Sunday night when I believe most other places were already closed. Â It was approximately 10 minutes till 11 and the kitchen was probably closing up here as well.
We quickly sat at the bar and the LOVELY bartender let us order anything from the appetizer menu if we ordered fast. Â She didn't have to do that!! Â We were sooooooo grateful as we were starving. Â
I ended up ordering the Fish tacos and they were seriously the BEST fish tacos I've had since this tiny little amazing place we discovered in Mexico. Â Mexico is still the best...but this is a close second. Â The fish were battered and fried to perfection and the sauce was brilliantly cooling. Â There was a bit too much cabbage but that's easily fixed by removing a little of it. Â I wish I lived closer so I could go back for seconds.
Service and food were TOP NOTCH!!! Â I'll definitely be back next year (when I come back for my annual volleyball tournament).
Went for dinner, waited about 20mins for table - decided to get a beer, there was two lady bartenders and a guy - didnt get service for about 15-20 mins, not even a Hi. And then one of the ladies was pretty rude.
On the other hand our server at the table was really nice. Good lamb/beef/pork -that's all I tried. Pretty good local CO beers also.
So, part of me want to rip this place to shreds for their terrible impersonation of a restaurant. Â The other part of me thinks they don't even deserve that. Â Why should I offer constructive criticism when they don't even try to make edible meals? Â I took one bite of my food the other night and I wanted to storm the kitchen and show them how easy it is to make decent fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Â I normally support local businesses exclusively. Â I avoid chain restaurants and fast-food like the plague, but I'd rather eat Wendy's than anything this place has to offer. Â Whomever owns this place should re-think their career goals.
Avoid at all costs.
OK. So I gave this place another shot since I had family in town, and the outdoor seating looked like a nice way to spend the evening. Â I believe that all of the high reviews of this place are for the 1$ happy hour tapas. Â They are 1$ because that is all they are worth.
My husband ordered the fried chicken which was overcooked and dry. I have had better fried chicken at City Market. It came with mashed potatoes which were reconstituted. Seriously, if you run a restaurant, and you can't boil a potato to make real mashed potatoes, you don't love and respect food at all, and you don't deserve my business. Since they don't even have the courtesy to cook food, we won't be going back. I think this place is just designed to rip off tourists who are only in town long enough to eat there once.
If you're in Steamboat you better checkou Mahogany Grill. Â Summer, winter or whenever.
My summer visit was great. Â Get a table outside on the patio. If you can't get a table outside, no worries. The inside is comfy and accommodating as well.
The menu has all kinds of selection. Modern American, soutwestern/Mexcian fusion, burgers, salads etc...
My favorite appetizers were the fresh bread and the saganaki. The saganaki is served tableside with a little fire so props for the cool presentation.
Entrees were excellent. Â The jerk duck was perfectly cooked and delicious with the dipping sauces. Burgers are juicy and stacked with goodies.
We had zero room for dessert but maybe next time.
On a recent trip to Steamboat Springs for a wedding, my boyfriend and I found ourselves here 3 times! The happy hour was amazing.
The food is awesome and creative, similar to food I have had in San Francisco. Â
The appetizers are amazing- such great combinations of flavors in each one.
For happy hour you can pay $2/per app.- you get only 2 pieces but it was a great deal. Â We had coconut shrimp w/a mango sauce, wonton chips with crab, phylo dough with cheese and mango, grilled chicken wings, edamame..then 2 Absolute/Tonic (in pint glasses, strong, too!), and 3 pints of beer, all for under $20?!?! GASP. Â Definitely well worth it! You can't get that in San Francisco for under $40.
The dinner menu sounds amazing, too!
The service was wonderful, the bar space is huge, pretty clean, and comfortable. There is an outside dining area that is really chill and cool, too.
5 stars for Mahogany Ridge!
Nice, modern, artsy brewery/restaurant on the main strip of a ski town. Â Soft lighting, happening bar, creative menu and freshly brewed beer, sounds like my kind of place, right? Â Pretty much, I felt quite comfortable here. Â
The place was packed on a Thursday night so we had to chill in the bar area for a while to get a table. Â Beers were alright. Â They were clean and clear, but flavor was seriously lacking "umph". Â All the styles were true but I'm just used to microbrews adding that little extra, to set them apart from everyone else. Â We tried their Roast Garlic Hummus for an appetizer and it was good with pita chips. Â Garlic was hummin'!
Finally get to dinner and since it was our last night here we were going to chow. Â Started with another app. the Tuna Ceviche $11, good but it was closer to a Hawaiian Poke than to a ceviche. Â Not acidic at all, but rather nice dice of tuna in soy sauce, wasabi, and sesame oil. Â Good with wonton chips.
We all wanted to end the week with red meat/game and this place offered the goods. Â We had a Lamb Sirloin $23 with some strong cumin based rub on it. Â An Elk Osso Bucco $25-nice shank of meat with bone sticking straight out. Â Good flavor but a little dry on the outside. Â I had the Buffalo New York Steak $27 b/c I liked the buffalo I had earlier this week and New York is my favorite cut, so I thought I had it in the bag. Â First it was heavily rubbed with a garlic based paste, a little strong for me. Â And though the meat was perfectly cooked med-rare, it was a lot denser than the sirloin I've tried days earlier. Â Maybe I was just getting a little full, but I had to pace myself to finish this damn plate. Â They also give every plate a bunch of sauces on the side, which is overkill to me, and a communal plate of sauted veggies (nice touch). Â
We had an excellent red Italian wine (damn, forgot the name and the price) but it wasn't any of the typicals ie. chianti, dolcetto, or brunello. Â And while someone ordered a chocolate cheesecake, I just stared at it while I sipped on single malt scotch. Â Extra star is for a decent selection of fine spirits for an even better price. Â I had a 16 yr old Lagavulin for $10, and I want to say I've paid as much as $20 for that same shot in Vegas. Â And I also want to say that the pour here was a little meatier. Â Yay for Colorado.
