First time to dine here. It was easy to make a reservation and we were seated immediately as soon as we arrived. Our server was very friendly. We ordered the calamari and was served with a side of bread. The calamari was just ok and it needs improvement specially with the batter. I ordered the veal in lemon caper sauce and it was pretty good. My hubby ordered their seafood linguine and thoroughly enjoyed it. For dessert, we ordered the zabaglione and tartufo and they were both delish.

"Million dollar" view with chain quality food.

REFUSE being seated in the back section of the restaurant, it has all the charm of a walk in closet. We asked to move to a window seat and the manager asked us to carry his menus to our new seat. Later the manager ran outside to move his red Acura to an available parking spot blocking the view of the fountain outside (really ...? )
Calamari was rubbery and the sauce was bland (not fresh).
Entrees were nothing special, mediocre at best mahi special. I did enjoy my penne but penne is the PB&J of Italian cuisine.
Good wait staff and great views of Carmel if you are lucky enough not to end up in the back.
Don't forget to ask for bread, if you don't it will never come.

Zero stars really. Manager/owner yelled at my grandfather when we asked him to honor our reservation before a show at the Palladium. Yes, he really yelled at an 80 year old man. Yes, we really had a reservation. AVOID!

    Meh...
Not impressed. Food was medicore and the service was just...meh...we were told because we didn't have a reservation we could sit in the bar...don't take that advice wait for a day when you can sit at a table. The seats are weird and crowded in the bar. We might give you a second go in the future but service and food quality both were lacking it might make the decision hard.

I can't believe this place even calls itself Italian, but then again Olive Garden says the same thing! At least they're cheaper and you don't walk away broke and disgusted, just disgusted. Mussels were bland.Bread was okay, but how hard is it to order a decent French bread?
Pasta was on par with Olive Garden. Chicken was definitely from Sysco, dry and not appealing.
Can't believe the positive reviews from fellow Yelpers. The city center signed a lease with these people????!?

We have been eating here for years.  Food is great and service is fast and friendly.  The menu does not change often (if ever) but there is always a special or two to give variety. Its a great LOCALS place. It gets crowded from time to time but we have never complained about sitting at the bar and talking to the owner while waiting.

Update:  Mangia has moved north on Rangeline to one of the new buildings near the Paladium. The bar is now much larger and looks out on the street. Very nice atmosphere and quite. Great location to have a drink with friends or before dinner. The restaurant has several small dining areas making you feel like you have the place to yourself even when it is full. Nice romantic/date location. There is now a large outdoor dining area that will fill up when the weather warms up.  The wait staff is friendly and will go out of their way to satisfy your special requests. The menu has not changed but I can still find something that I like after returning many times over the years.

We come here often for the good food, friendly wait staff, and quiet atmosphere.  They always acknowledge our return visits.  Salads are great.  We typically share the Penni Rustica dinner.  Also highly recommend the poached salmon.  We haven't tried too many of the other menu items since we enjoy these two so much.  Hot fresh bread a + too.

A pleasant break from the chain Italian restaurants.

Having just moved here, we are trying to try as many local places as possible. Tonight we tried this place and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was great! It made it a great place for family or friendly gatherings, date nights, and casual dinners. It really is a perfect atmosphere for an Italian restaurant without being overly romantic.

We started with bruschetta--topped with the freshest calamatta olives and tomatoes. Extremely good and refreshing.

I had the Fettucine Monterusso which was very good, tho I wish it had just a touch more garlic or pesto. He had Penne alla Medici--chicken, artichokes, capers, and sun dried tomatoes in olive oil. He raved on and on about how amazing it was and would order it any time.

    Def be back.

Wow! A non-chain Italian eatery right in our backyard that's actually damn good!

I didn't feel so bad about not being "in the know" as regards Mangia! when I discovered that the better half had not been here either. At least I have an excuse: I'm an Indianapolis transplant and have only lived in this 'burb for less than two years.

We were delighted to find a very cozy, warm interior at Mangia! - decidedly more upscale than a chain, yet not pretentious. The two-way fireplace between both main dining areas was a great touch and provided the perfect ambiance on a cool early fall evening.

Our server, Laura, was pleasant and made us feel taken care of without "hovering." We didn't have to ask for anything at any point and her timing was right on target.

For our dinner we chose two salads to start, one "del Campo" and one Caesar - we both agreed the "del Campo" was the better of the two, but that's mainly due to its nice ingredient mix: spring mix tossed with artichoke hearts, black onions, tomatoes, red onions and a delicious garlic-kissed vinaigrette. Speaking of garlic-kissed, the bread that comes out before your antipasti or salad has just the slightest hint of the bulb...we kept thinking it was the dipping oil, but it was somehow baked into the bread....subtle, but oh so effective! Our entrees included a Rosticianna - pork tenderloin stuffed with a melt-in-the-mouth combination of pancetta, rosemary and mushrooms and then sauced with mushroom and rosemary demi-glace. This dish came with a side of fresh mixed vegetables and garlic mashed. However, we took Laura up on her offer to have the chef "customize" as was possible and traded the potatoes for capellini marinara - good on us!!! The other entree was a delicate asiago-stuffed ravioli with a rustic tomato-basil sauce. Though we didn't have room for dessert at the restaurant, we did indulge in the end and take home house-made tiramisu and a cannoli duo.

We really enjoyed our Mangia! experience and will definitely return - next time with friends. I only wish we had "discovered" this place before the weather turned...they have a few outside tables that might have been nice to try on a summer's evening.

My wife and I have been to Mangia! several times and it is, hands down, our favorite Italian restaurant. The pastas and appetizers are always terrific and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. It's also an excellent choice for a romantic dinner or to celebrate a special occasion. Be sure to call ahead for reservations to get a seat by the fireplace.
