I've dined here three times and have had a nice dining experience every time. Â The service is fantastic! You really can tell the wait staff is experienced and cares about your dining experience - they never miss a beat!
The food is excellent... I've never had nor has anyone I've dined with had a complaint when it comes to the quality, taste, texture, or presentation of the dishes.
The atmosphere is very nice, extremely well stocked bar - one of the best I've seen in the valley...
I will be coming back every chance I get!
Was here for an office party Saturday night and the room, food, "adult beverages" and service was fantastic! Â The rib eye with blue cheese and the filet with bearnaise were oh so good and the drinks were perfect! Â They went and found mint in the kitchen for my mojitos and they were not cloyingly sweet which can ruin many a good drink. Â
The owners also gave us an amazing shrimp cocktail ON THE HOUSE! Talk about generous! Â We had 30-40 people in our party! Tons of shrimp with avocado in a creamy white horseradish sauce. Â One of the best I have ever had!
I must RAVE about the staff, not one staff member was slacking. Â All were more than accommodating and on their toes. Â And they were all oh so nice. Â I wish we had a Manhattan Restaurant in Orange County, Ca. Because you could be sure, we would be regulars. Â Thank you Manhattan Restaurant for a wonderful night!
I'll try to keep this short and as to the point as possible. The food was bad. Real bad. The service was ok, but with what is being served, I have no intention of ever returning to this place.
The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were a disgusting mess. The shrimp it seemed, spent way too much time in the freezer. Result was flavorless, soggy, water logged shrimp.
I ordered the NY steak med rare and it came out well done, dry, and under seasoned. The avocado on the salmon was brown. Need I say more?
Way overpriced. There are plenty of restaurants in town that serve better food with much more dedication to the food for your money.
I used to be a chef here. During my tenure here we received numerous awards for the best of Fresno. The food here is all prepared in the kitchen, nothing is prefabbed. Although the food is a little pricey it is always a good quality product. Even though the menu is outdated, this is what Dave Milutinovich has been successful using. The chef there now has been there over 20 years and has been consistent in putting out a good product. I would recommend this place for anniversaries or a nice date. Keep up the good work guys!
Review Source:We'd heard mixed reviews about this place so we decided to give it a try ourselves. Â Boy, what a mistake! Â This was such a disaster!
The steak - so bad that I can't come up with the words. Â It had absolutely no taste whatsoever. Â For almost $50 for a piece of meat, I expected something exceptional and was badly disappointed.
The sides -- they give you a side of veggies and a side of your choice. Â We ordered fries, and were shocked that the fries were as soggy as the veggies they served. Â The veggies were water-logged and had no salt or butter, and the fries were so soggy you would need a fork to eat them.
The service -- we didn't eat very much of the meat and decided to take it home thinking that maybe we could flavor it up ourselves and have it the next day so we asked them to box our leftovers. Â The waitress returned and had wrapped our steaks in foil (just the meat part, not the bone that stuck out 8 inches) and didn't give us a box or anything and said they were out of bags. Â So here we are all dressed up, walking out of a restaurant where we just spent $150, holding our leftovers by the bone. Â Very classy! Â To add insult to injury, the meat juices dripped out of the foil on the drive home, getting it on the carpet of my car.
Evil is on a mission.
While we are not foodies by any stretch, we are on a mission to experience every high end restaurant in the greater Fresno area. Â
We are not opposed to high end chain restaurants, like the overrated Ruth Chris or the underrated Flemings, we're focusing on the locally owned restaurants.
Our experience at the Manhattan was a mixed bag.
Walking into the Manhattan was like walking into an episode of Mad Men, which makes sense as we're often told we look like Don Draper.
We loved the bar. Â Of course, that goes in line with our New Year's resolution to drink more. Â The bar was great, it had lots of interesting looking bottles.
The service was outstanding.
The problem, unfortunately, was that the food wasn't great. Â It just wasn't.
Manhattan, we'll be back just for the ambience, but we sure hope it was just an off night in the kitchen. Â Bring it next time!
The food is good but most of their dishes come with sauces and glazes. Â The meat and fish should stand on it's on and be seasoned properly instead of hidden in odd flavor combinations. Â I don't remember it always being like this and hope they go back to the traditional steakhouse flavors.
Review Source:This place was terrible! I ordered the Rebel NY steak. The steak was supposedly stuffed with crab, but all I got was processed imitation crab meat. My girlfriend ordered the scallops with a artichoke heart salad. The artichokes were from a can. I don't mind paying for quality ingredients. Come on Manhattan, get it together!
Review Source:This is a favorite special-occasion spot for my husband and me. We love it. Â This time it was my birthday. I had the tournedos Monterrey. Like most restaurants, it's double the portion size. There were two 4 ounce filets with artichoke bottoms beneath and mushroomcap and bernaise sauce on top. Excellent. I took one home and it was great the next day. It came with OK mashed potatoes and well cooked veggies. The atmosphere is grown up, nice low-key jazz music. We went early on a Friday night so we had our choice of seating. Very nice. Usually we're there on a holiday, so the place is packed. Not this time, lovely atmosphere. Good service. Â They have a steakhouse egg drop soup that I have dreams about. They were not serving it this time but if it's offered, get it! They also make a dreamy asparagus salad. Â The Manhattan never disappoints. It's a sure thing!
Review Source:When i was a kid my dad and I always made it a habit of dinning at what we considered Old School Steak Houses..We apparently enjoyed that patina of a bye gone era, however we were not willing to compromise the quality of the food.
Upon entering The Manhattan you are greeted in a friendly manner and promptly seated, booths are comfortable...everyones very polite. Looking over the menu, not a huge one and i like that, I saw really what i expected, somewhat standard fare, good but why the addition of the sauces ? Sauces are done... high quality ingredients speak for themselves.
Started with the crab cakes..I have texture issues with crab cakes. I need to see and taste lumps of crab, when the inside is like a mousse it becomes a fish cake not a crab cake, this doesn't mean the taste is not good..but i didn't order fish cakes! Now what's with habanero aioli...can you imagine the wonderful lite sweet taste of a perfect crab cake...needs nothing.
Rib Eye...always been my favorite cut..aged to perfection, actually cooked very well...light salt and fresh ground black pepper, grill and serve..No, got to top it off with roasted garlic and a black peppercorn glaze, why ?
Grilled asparagus salad..This again has to be a grill and serve item..topped with red onion capers and a pancetta vinaigrette...Listen when you grill asparagus, grill it a little longer than you normally would...once the tips have a lite char remove top with olive oil...has to be Verni brand and serve..that little char and the olive oil create a heavenly experience ! forget the onion, forget the capers...pancetta vinaigrette if it's prepared at table side go for it, otherwise leave it in the walk-in.
I miss the art of basic let the ingredients speak for themselves food preperation...simplicity folks..simplicity.
At first glance, this restaurant has great potential to be a diamond in the rough. The inside is decorated with all kinds photos of greats like the Rat Pack and Marilyn Monroe. The staff was super friendly and quick. The service was great.
But alas - I must give them 3 stars. I almost went for 2...
I ordered the New York steak with melted blue cheese. If it wasn't for the blue cheese, my steak would have no flavor other than "cooked". My hubby ordered the same cut but it came with a garlic gravy type sauce that was delicious! Again, though without that topping the steak had no flavor. It definitely did NOT live up to its price....
My grandma was super excited about their "renowned" prime rib. Her bubble was instantly popped when the owner stated that they only have prime rib on Sundays. Not something they advertise....which they should. (Needless to say we were not there on a Sunday)
My uncle ordered the champagne chicken which was weird. I'm not one to vote for fancy foods, but it tasted weird. *shrug* Could just be me. Well actually it was my uncle and I.....and my hub - okay it wasn't just me.
The desserts were fabulous, though....Yum!
If you're looking for a great place to have drinks and maybe get some dessert and listen to live jazz - check out the Manhattan. If you're looking for a great steak, stick to Tahoe Joes or Cattlemans.
A friend recommended this place for me. Â Her family belongs to the Mercedes-Benz of Fresno Club and they hold their annual party here, apparently. Â The decor inside is very chic and modern, but with an old school feel about it. Â There was a band on the side playing really mellow jazz that fitted the atmosphere perfectly. Â Great for a romantic dinner. Â Our waitress seemed a little over the top fake friendly if you know what I mean, but the food here is pretty decent, although quite pricey. Â
A martini, a beer, two entrees and a dessert came out to be roughly $100. Â My boyfriend ordered the Filet Park Avenue, which we both loved. Â The red wine reduction sauce on top of the filet was just perfect. Â I oredered the Tornadoes Monterrey, I believe it was called? Â I didn't like the bernaise sauce that came with my filet but the artichoke underneath it was so tender and delicious. Â All entrees come with housed mash potatoes and vegetables, which aren't too shabby. Â Overall, great experience- not a 5 star but decent enough. Â You'll love the decor inside.
I want to give this place a better rating, I really do. Â I mean, the drinks/bar area is great, service was pretty good...I found the restaurant itself to be very cool. Â The only problem was our food was just so-so. Â I guess I just expected a pricey, locally owned steakhouse to be better than, oh say Applebee's?...but it really wasn't. Â And not that it's the Manhattan's fault but sitting next to a guy telling his wife he wants a divorce over dinner is a bit depressing.
Review Source:Simply elegant. Â Took the girlfriend here for her birthday. Â This place is very nice! Â The steaks are delicious. Â I'm not a fan of chain restaurants because I don't like the idea. Â I like my food to be prepared by a chef that cares and dictates the menu, not by a cook following a chef's recipe. Â
It's not cheap, but worth the money. Â If you want cheap check out Logan's they have good food. Â But Logan's pales in comparison to Manhattan!
Great food. Great drinks. Seriously top-notch. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere; nice and dark, just the way I like it. I cant even remember which steak I ordered, but it was tender, juicy and one of the best cuts of meat I had had in a really long time. I left so stuffed and happy. The martinis helped a bit, but I would have been happy none the less! Your meal wont be cheap, but I would definitely say its worth it, especially if you are looking to have a really nice time.
Review Source:I would give this a 5 star review based on my past experiences, but today it was just alright. Â The Manhattan is a very nice place to dine, and the staff is very friendly. Â And, it seems that most every thing that they have on the menu is very good. Â The scallops are especially delicious.
Tonight, I had the Manhattan Rib Eye. Â It's their signature dish, and it was just alright. Â I mean, it's coming in @ about $40 so I sort of expect it to be amazing. Â It was just good. Â Really, I'm not complaining.
I do recommend going to this place if you're look for a nice meal. Â Just know that you're going to pay the price for it. Â I'd say that is comparable in price to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and I think that they're similar in quality as well. Â Just night quite tonight.
This is one of the best kept secrets in Fresno and family owned. I'm surprised that more aren't aware of it! I'm sure it's due to a somewhat secluded location in Northwest Fresno (you may have driven by and never noticed it in the corner). If you're tired of the Steakhouses near Fashion Fair and the River Park complex, try the Manhattan! Excellent for groups, there are 2 private rooms, one great for smaller groups (15-20) and the other maybe 50 people. They book up fast during holidays.
The atmosphere is cool, dark, a little old school, sophisticated & snazzy. The bar is incredible featuring current trendy drinks as well as the most high end aged spirits that you have ever seen. The staff is fabulous and will not disappoint. The steaks are great, my favorite is the Filet Park Avenue. The escargot is yummy and melts in your mouth. They serve a delicious olive tapenade with bread as an appetizer while you wait for your meal. The almond prawns are great. My boyfriend loves the Tournedoes Monterey-
Two petite filets set atop artichoke bottoms topped with mushroom caps and crowned with béarnaise sauce. The desserts are decadent and there is a wide variety. Price depends on if you order soup and salad and on how many cocktails you consume. We typically order an appetizer to share and pass on additional salads or soups, even though they are excellent as well. It's common to receive a table side visit by one of the owners to check on you. What an overall treat!
