The food was good, but not bratwurst or rindswurst only knackwurst. . .I missed hot german potato salad and sauerkraut. Â Great combination. Â Definitely too Americanized food, but the alcohol was fairly reasonable. Â Bonus. Â Too bad only one server for the lunch crowd. Â She was swamped, so expect the wait. Â This is a buffet style joint. Â Server only brings drinks and sometimes clears the tables. Â Spacious, but no outdoor seating. Â The mood lighting is set for bar atmosphere which is awesome.
Review Source:YUP, 5-star Pastrami
Have to bump this review to 5 stars; these guys make a pastrami sandwich that is simply the best I have found in Fresno, and as good as I have ever had anywhere. Sam's Italian Deli "New York" pastrami is simply not as good. The Hofbrau carves the pastrami in thicker slices right there at the steam table, serves it how you want it, has all the right condiments for a real pastrami on rye (spicy mustard and horseradish). The only thing missing is a cold Pilsner and they have that over in the bar.
Anyway, if there is anybody reading this review and, after having the pastrami at the Hofbrau, can suggest ANY better pastrami sandwich in Fresno, please let me know because I want to try it! Til then, this is the best in the Frez. They also have friendly bartenders and servers who take good care of you when you visit.
If I would have written this review one year ago it would have been 5 stars. Have been coming here for years with my family for sandwiches. I usually get the open faced turkey, fam usually gets roast beef. The past 2 times I have come everything seems a little "off". Not sure if they have changed recipes or vendors for ingredients or changed cooks or owners but something is different. The quality is just not there anymore. I will give this place one more try, maybe just a fluke?
