Went there on Tues 5/7/13 with family for dinner. Wife ordered salad bar and that night and next day was sick. I noticed that the buffet wasn't very chilled. Also daughter ordered rice pudding and the rice was raw/uncooked.
Now this is where I get annoyed. Waitress stops by and asks "how is everything?" we  point out that the rice pudding was not good and why only to get "really?". Really? what kind of question is that to a customer? Then when going to pay the host does the customary "How was everything?" We tell him and get "Huh? Usually it's pretty good". Not "we'll take a look into that" or "sorry".
So if you like your typical pancake house for senior citizens with sub-par food and a thousand and one choices with wait staff and management that doesn't care. This place is your choice.
If you think you're money is worth more than that keep looking
Good food, horrible service. My husband and I ate there 5 or 6 times and EVERY SINGLE TIME we ran into the same issue- rude staff.  Not just not friendly or cranky..but plain rude. The only reason we kept on making excuses for them (anyone can have a bad day, right?) and  going back there is the  food. Yes, they have excellent pancakes, but it's just not worth the aggravation. There are other great restaurants in the area where you actually feel welcomed. We wil not be going back.
Review Source:First off I have to admit there is some childhood nostalgia to Manor for me. Growing up after going to the barber in St. Charles my mom and I would go to Manor and get the potato pancakes. They had a location right on the river and I would love to be seated by the window and watch it while having breakfast. This location then moved to Elgin and a few years ago to my disappointment closed. That is were Yelp came in. I decided to do a search for manor (after hearing they were a chain) and was surprised to find this location in East Dundee. Much to my surprise it is the same place!!! The potato pancakes here taste the same and so does the coffee (they have great coffee). The Potato pancakes are made fresh and have a hit of Cheddar cheese. This is one of only a few restaurants I will order potato pancakes (they are great at Our Kitchen also). The old 70's style dinner is great also. Plenty of comfortable booths here. The service here is also always spot on. I never see the bottom of my coffee cup. Still one of my favorite breakfast places!! Glad I found it again on Yelp!
Review Source:I cannot tell you how many times I have driven past this restaurant and not given it a second thought until my friend moved right down the street. Â She was singing its praises, so we all went there on a Saturday morning around 9 am.
There was no wait for our group of six, which was nice. Â They didn't have kid's menus for the kids (or at least we weren't offered one) and there wasn't a kid's section on the menu, anyway. Â The kids had eaten a bit before, though, so they just decided to share with us anyway.
Our waitress was a bit...brisk. Â I don't think she smiled once. Â She was all business and it was slightly awkward. Â It was almost as if we were a big inconvenience for her. Â So 1 star for service.... I mean, it was fast-ish, but she was craaaaaaabby.
And the food...meh. Â My veggie omelet was not very good at all. Â I like when the eggs and the veggies are melded together, and this was just sort of eggs-wrapped-around-some-greasy-veggies. Â Meh. Â But mine came w/ silver dollar pancakes that the kids seemed to enjoy.
My husband got a stack of pancakes, though, and these were REALLY good. Â They were better than the silver dollar ones that came with my meal, and they were SUPER fluffy. Â So delicious! Â I kept stealing bites of his food :)
For four meals (including four drinks), it was $43 without tip. Â So it was a bit pricey for mediocre food.
Two words to sum it up.
Blueberry pancakes. Seriously.
And the skillet with ham, bacon, country gravy... whoa. The best grease pit ever.
Their country gravy is the closest to my own gravy that I've ever had at a restaurant, which means actual chunks of sausage in the mix. Noms.
I would only give this place 4.5 stars, their service can act kind of crabby sometimes, but the food makes it worth putting 5 stars down for the world to see.
I think we'll have breakfast for dinner tonight.
First off, the food is very good. You'd be hard-pressed to find better breakfast cuisine in the area. However, that does not excuse the absolutely abysmal service here. It's not everyone on the staff - not all of the servers and managers are terrible, but some are just unacceptably rude. They act like customers are annoying them. The worst of all is the woman who runs the register. I have NEVER encountered such a rude employee in my life. There is just no excuse for this. Every time I've gone she's been a total jerk. She's even mean to poor little kids asking if they can have one of the free Dum-Dums they have at the encounter. Just appalling.
I'm sure I'll still go here from time to time just because I like the food, but I'm going to hate every minute I have to spend interacting with most of the staff.
I went for breakfast with my father and sister. The waitress looked like the living dead. She did not smile or greet. The food was average. Everytime I come here I think maybe I'll get better customer service but I never fail to be disappointed. When we checked out the older white lady at the front was very rude and equally as unfriendly as the waitress. On the bright side, we love the Country Skillet for breakfast and sometimes we have it for dinner too (that's the only reason I like coming here).
Review Source:I've been going here for years and since I live just down the street I go even more now! Great food and coffee every time, ao if you're looking for a REAL dinner with A+ food this is you're spot.I've even come to know the staff and the owners so it's like a home away from home, they really care and it shows! They have the best pancakes around but what's really great if youre super hungry is their skillets, so much food and soo good!! That just covers breakfast, they also have a great lunch and dinner menu with really great prices. They have weekday specials for breakfast and dinner. I can promise if you go there you will find something you want to eat no matter the time of day because their menu is so big! oh and breakfast is served all day for you breakfast lovers!
Review Source:Whatever tickles your breakfast fancy, they got it! Â I've been going here for at least 25 years, and their menu will take care of you breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Â I love getting their skillets. Â No calorie counters here, folks. All of the waitresses here are real pros! Â This place is a real hub for the community on the weekends. Â And if you've been out late drinking with your boys the night before, this place will nurse your hangover in a heart beat. Â Â Â I love this place!
Review Source:Kinda goes along the lines of what I said about "Benedict's". Â Locals have known about this for decades ~ a fantastic family diner. Â I remember going to this place as a kid after church on Sundays; and still go there regularly! Â We love the food (first & foremost), as well as the atmosphere. Â It's an old place with country style & down-home country cooking too!!
Review Source:I'm not a huge fan of breakfast so when I find a place that does breakfast justice I'm all over it  with that being said I would have to tilt my hat to the Manor. I went there last week in the afternoon but came in for the breakfast after reading the reviews about their to die for  pancakes. I of course didn't end up ordering the pancakes but I got the Manor skillet instead. I was definitely not disappointed. It was a huge portion of eggs made  to order, hash browns, sausage, green peppers and mushrooms and lastly cheese, cheese and cheese. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. I also snuck a  bite (or five) off of my boyfriends plate, he got the strawberry pancakes, heavenly is the best way to describe them. It was a gargantuan pancake stuffed with fresh strawberries rolled up and covered with whipped cream....sigh....  I can't wait to go back here, so far two thumbs up from me
Review Source:I went here for breakfast with a group of folks this past Sunday. We got there at 9:30, which was just perfect timing. Literally, a 1/2 hour later, the place was hopping, and the wait was much longer.
The Manor has an awesome selection of standard breakfast fare. Everyone sampled some major category on the menu - from eggs to skillets to pancakes. The general consensus - the food was good, but nothing to write home about.
I had the "Country Skillet", which consisted to eggs, hash browns, cheese, ham, and sausage gravy. It was alright, albeit for two things: 1) the hash browns had so much oil that the shreds magically reassembled themselves into a giant mass globule of potato; 2) the sausage gravy was lukewarm and had no extra-seasoned flavor.
The server was attentive, the coffee was plentiful, and the price was just about right. Once again, decent enough food, but certainly not a destination place.
Manor has the best pancakes of all the Chicagoland pancake houses I've tried! Â My rating below is based on a basic breakfast sampling of regular (original) pancakes, sausage, eggs and coffee. Â I rate Manor Pancake House a 5 star. Â I eat at Manor whenever I'm not critiquing new pancake houses. Â It's my favorite place to go to know I'm getting consistently excellent pancakes. Â Never had a bad experience.
Pancake (original) ***** Excellent texture and flavor
Sausage (links) ****
Eggs (scrambled) ****
Coffee  ***** great!
This is a great dependable family owned restaurant with great dependable food. We've had amazing service there. In the morning, it can sometimes be a bit slow as far as service goes. I would recommend going in the evening for anything but dinner. You can get a delicious breakfast any time of day, which is really quite perfect as a retreat after a night of having fun. I can find meals that are great for when I'm craving something not so good for me, or when I want to keep it nice and light.
Review Source:Let me start off by saying I am a bit of a foodie.  With that in mind this place is true to it's roots - good food at great prices.  First off  - the service was exellent!  I even overhead another waitress asking someone if they wanted extra gravy to take home with their leftovers.
Second the food - nothing fancy but what I got was good! Â They have a very limited salad bar but it met my needs and the three bean salad was a tangy, perfectly cooked surprise! Â
For my entree I got the chicken kiev with rice pilaf and green beans. Â The rice pilaf was nice (needed a little salt and pepper, that's it) and perfectly cooked. Â NOW if some of you may yawn at my selection, then you have never had a perfectly executed kiev, with a crisp non greasy exterior, moist flavorful chicken and when you cut into it a river of buttery goodness which act as additional seasoning for the pilaf upon which it rests.
This is a diner, right down to the Jello on the menu. Â This family owned and operated restaurant has survived renovations and fires and always remains the same. Â
Giant sandwiches, great breakfast food, of course Grecian chicken and decent salads. Â Pie by the slice for dessert. Â It is one of those places you can always count on. Â After change upon change in the area, The Manor remains the same.
Come on, Dundee! It's called "Yelp". Â You use it to announce one of the best little Pancake houses in the midwest.
When I first started traveling for work, I assumed I could find little diners in every city. Â NOT TRUE! Â Most cities have crappy diners. Â Or just IHOP. Â Don't get me wrong, I do like IHOP. Â And Bob Evans. Â And Cracker Barrel. Â But they don't hold a candle to Manor.
I grew up on this place. Â My whole family did. Â My aunt pretty much lives there. Â When I'm in town, I typically get at least one meal there. Â The pancakes are out of this world. Â They are the standard that I measure all pancakes against to this day. Â And while 95% of my meals there have been from the breakfast menu, everything there is good. Â There service is usually cordial if not friendly. Â This is a good place to bring kids, take your parents out, or take a date the morning after to help with hangover recovery. Â This is not the best place for you if you're in that 18-21 range, looking for a place to hang out all night because you're not allowed in the bars yet. Â They tend to shoo you out a little faster than Deny's will. Â But if you're eating, you can stay.
The interior is nice and clean. Â There are no frills, but who needs frills when you have such a solid performance in the "diner food" department?
What a delightful, albeit typical "1,000 item menu" restaurant hidden away off of Route 72. We have nicknamed it "The Sinkhole Restaurant" because several years ago the parking lot collapsed...I digress...
The selection is substantial and breakfast is served all day and evening. The salad bar  is small and simple but surprisingly tasty.
Our entrees of chicken-fried steak, roast beef slices and a pork thing were so good (we added our own salt and pepper, but we like the control). The vegetables were excellently prepared, not too mushy.
The service was just fine - the senior crowd had just left and we had no problems with the location of our table and the service. It's good to eat out after 5:00 PM
I have been there 3 or four times: very busy family restaurant with the parking lot almost full every time. Â This is a good sign.
Clean with a friendly efficient staff. Â The decor looks a little stressed - lots of traffic. Â The dress is casual
Very good breakfasts. Â My wife loves the Swedish Pancakes with lingonberries. Â I like their sausage. Â Good coffee and they keep it coming.
Reasonably priced. Â Price for breakfast for two: Â between 17 - 20 bucks.
On Mothers' Day they gave out a rose to every mother. Â A nice touch.
