  I have been to the original "El Veneno" in Bucerias, Nayarit in Mexico.  Which is only about a 20 minute drive from downtown Puerto Vallarta.  All their locations in the Chicago area have really cheesy decorations (not a good place for formal dining), but the food is quite tasty.  If you ever want to live being in Mexico again, this is the perfect place because of the live regional music.
  
  To start off, the place is BYOB.  (No corkage fee either)  You should definitely try the shrimp empanadas and the cucarachas.  I usually stick to the cucarachas since they are my favorite dish.  My friends have ordered various dishes from this place, and I have gotten mixed reviews.  My friend had a shrimp cocktail and mentioned it lacked taste. On the other hand, one one ocassion my other friend tried the prawns in garlic sauce and almost fainted from how good they were.
  
  The only reason why I didn't give this place five stars, is because of the service.  Sometimes you get excellent services and other days you get a bit of an attitude.  We were charge gratuity when 3 of us dined and their menu clearly states the grauity is charged on parties of 6 or more.  So we didn't tip our waiter extra and he mumbled in Spanish "Thanks for the huge tip."  Which I thought was a little unfair since HE made the decision to add gratuity.
  
  Overall, huge portions, loud ambience, BYOB, great food and very low prices.
