I finally got a chance to get over to Mis Tacos and check it out. The place is pretty big, lots of tables, and well lit. Looks immaculate. What I like is that they have fresh juice---- carrots, beets, and citrus(I think).$5 for a 32 oz. WAY cheaper than Whole Foods.
I had the Tacos Al Pastor. That's always a decent gauge for Mexican joints. They were very good. IMHO, it doesn't beat El Gallo's, but it was better than most. The corn tortillas were soft, yet crispy. I have no idea how they pulled that off. The meat was tasty but was not accompanied by "juice", or as I call it--"red gold". The salsas offered were red and green. The red was refreshingly different from standard fare. I mean, with the sauces you can only do so much. It's like writing songs with only three chords. The trick is tweaking what ingredients you have. This works. The green sauce was tasty and not too hot and had a nice touch of fresh cilantro leaves thrown in as well.
I also had a steak burrito with everything. The meat was very good. Maybe it was the type of cut, but I didn't see what kind it was.In any case, it beat the standard chopped beef in a corn oil bath. It still retained juiciness without greasiness. The size was ok at best. For 5 bucks I hoped for more. I remember back in the 80's when you could get a monster burrito for $2.65. But, I am old and maybe hungrier than the old days. "Everything" also included sour cream, which I love, but it also mixes with the filling and kind of blands everything out. For the future I am going to try many different things from their menu because I have a feeling that the other items ought to be interesting. Can't wait for the chicharron and the birria (weekends only). This place is definitely worth a visit.
