Master Z's is under new ownership and the fish fry suffers from it!  The new owners took over sometime in Fall 2012 and we noticed some not so good changes.

"Minor Changes" The Walleye, Bluegill and Perch are no longer all you can eat and the yummy homemade rye bread is down from 2 to 1 piece. Can live with both of these as the portions are always generous.

"Major Changes" The fish fry itself is now hit or miss.  Sometimes Greasy, sometimes not.  The Cod however is mostly flavorless as the batter can be just as flavorless  (again hit or miss) - it's Clearly NOT THE SAME!  We've gone 4 times since the change in ownership hoping the new owners would find thier way back --- and we are done trying.  I've had perch all 4 times and only once was it allllmost like it used to be (flaky, flavorful, melt in your mouth).  My bf has tried bluegill and cod & had 1 "good" meal, 1 "okay" meal and 2 "not good" ... so for me that's a 25% ratio of good and my bf is 50%.= not enough to take a chance on it.

"Good" Criss cut fries still yummy, bread still yummy.  (never been a fan of their coleslaw so I can't comment on it, as I prefer a more KFC mayo-ish slaw)

The "service" = subpar  This last time we ate we didn't wait long at all - it was just mainly our  waitress - who seemed extremely bored to be there and obviously didn't care about us - never checking on us once until we needed to pay.  Our food was delivered by a gentleman from the kitchen who was only slightly more cheery than our waitress - but at least he asked if we needed anything else.  The female owner and hostess were so flustered (it was 5:30pm on a Friday & literally they had 3 open tables - but we had to wait 7 minutes unti they cleaned them)  The hostess and female owner were talking to e/o in a way that even seemed they were annoyed the other was talking. --- shhesh!  The male owner walked past everyone and was talking on the phone to perhaps a pickup order -  oblivious to everyone around him all night.  Very impersonal staff overall.

All and All - it's okay --- but if you knew what Master Z's was like previously you will likely be disappointed.  If you don't remember Master Z's prior to Fall 2012, then I'm sure it's just fine.  It's still a "fairly good" fish fry, but we won't go back as we still have too many awesome memories of how it was ... and extremely mediocre memories now.

What a piece of crap place. You will NEVER be a top fish fry place if you insult people on the phone and refuse to take a to go order. Excuse me if I don't want to take my small children to your restaurant for a 90 minute wait (what I was quoted) to maybe have a good food only to piss everyone else off while my kids cry. If you think you're a big dogg place for a fish fry step up your business and expand to accommodate your business, don't insult them. Also, nice website which has nothing on it and does not work. It's 2013, get it together.

It was fine that we waited 1.5 hours for a table, we were out for a night on the town and had fun with foosball.... but then we spent another half hour waiting for anyone to take our order, than another hour to not get our food and just walk out. It was really silly. Too busy for their own good. By the time we left, restaurants were done serving so we brought home Le Gong Gourmet (Chinese). Waste of a babysitter

The best fish fry I've had in a long time, and it's all you can eat!  I recommend going on Wednesday for the fish fry. Friday nights get very crowded, but on Wednesdays it's not as busy.  The cod fish fry has a light breading and not greasy.  I've also had the bluegills which are great too.

Just tried their fish fry for the first time tonight. There was a wait at about 6:30 and I thought it was pretty cool that you could shoot some pool in the huge billiard room while waiting for a table. Sounds like fun for a family, rather than sit at the bar with kids.
The fish fry was all you can eat for a reasonable price. I started out with the walleye which was good and worked my way down to sample the perch, bluegill and cod. I think the cod was my favorite. Excellent thick sliced fresh marble rye, good cole slaw and would have loved some potato pancakes to round out the meal.  The fish fry only came with waffle fries which were nicely seasoned, and plentiful ,just not my fave. Would have liked more side options and maybe other shrimp or seafood choices on Fridays.
All in all, one of the better fish fries in the Waukesha area.

Great fish fry!  Couple different types of fish, and they were all very good. Had a great time too.  My Mom is a long time Fish Fry eater, and goes far and near, and she loved the food as well.
Next time i am in town, there's no question where I am going for a Fish Fry and fun.

Great staff. LOVE the fish fry. They put just a little kick into the batter and it really gives it a great flavor.
