Fishbone's Cajun & Creole Restaurant

My criteria for heading to Fishbone was that I needed a place to take my mother on her birthday, and she wanted spicy!  As luck would have it, we got fun, comfortable atmosphere, and perfectly prepared food...though somehow, mom forgot about the spicy.

Larger than it looks from outside,  Fishbone is stylishly decorated in a way that ALMOST brings N'awlins to the shores of lake Nagawicka.  The large, sunken dining room at the re r looked quite cozy, and provided sep ration from the front dining area and the bar.

When we heard the special...pecan crusted grouper, with a garlic cream sauce over sweet potato dirty-rice, topped with crawfish meat,we all ordered it.  At $20 I was thinking the $$ rating might be off. That only lasted until the massive fillet arrived perfectly cooked, and flavor fully balanced.

Going here was a total fluke (Yelp! Aided, but a fluke nonetheless).  My many return visits will be intentional!

From out of town and celebrating the birth of our first grandson. Couldn't have chosen a better place. Sat outside on a beautiful evening on the day of the birth (they could use some hedge clippers to spruce up the lake view) and our waitress was exceptional in spirit and helpfulness. Started with one of the best margaritas I have ever had. Then crawfish bisque and jambalaya. Ended with the chocolate bread pudding; brought the left-overs of that home for our daughter and new Mom on her first day home!  We hope they stay in business and prosper for a thousand years.

We have visited Fishbones several times, so we asked for a table in the back - the 'bright' acoustics can make conversation challenging.

Cajun cuisine is my personal favorite, so they don't have to be too amazing to be terrific. Nevertheless, when Jillian suggested the special we went for it and it was wonderful.

I wish I'd remembered the exact name - just ask Jillian. What I do remember is pasta with blackened shrimp and cod in a rich (but somewhat spicy) cream sauce. I asked her for some extra bread just to clean out every drop - "You didn't like it?" she joked when she saw my spotless bowl. The portion size was enough to split. It was a birthday celebration so she brought a complimentary cheesecake topped with caramel and pecans. The cheesy part was especially creamy and delicious.
