We've always driven by Maxi's but never bothered to stop until last night.  The place is casual with wooden booths.  We were seated immediately and greeted by our server.  The menu is pretty basic - the appetizers consisted of mostly fried items so we passed.

There are a couple of salads, a section of burgers and sandwiches and dinner entrees consisting of steaks, prime rib, ribs and a couple of seafood dishes.  We weren't in the mood for a huge steak dinner so we stuck with the sandwiches.  I ordered the Chicken Specialty Sandwich which was a perfectly grilled chicken breast with ham, mozzarella and American cheeses.  It was huge, served on french bread and a side of steak fries.

My fiance ordered the pork tenderloin sandwich that was fried and also served with steak fries.  He said it was good.

The portions were large for the price - both sandwiches were $7.95.  I had two glasses of wine and he had two beers and our bill totaled $34.

We would recommend it for a casual lunch.  We may stop back sometime to check out the steaks.

This place was HORRIBLE. My husband ordered the BBQ ribs and they had absolutely NO meat on the bones! I ordered fish and chips and they were gross and greasy. I don't see what people like in this place. It is so overrated.

**I did to have "fish and chips", maybe it was under a different name like deep-fried perch.

We go to Maxi's regularly!  (The pork chops are my favorite!).  Their service is great and they always make you feel welcome!

Since a description of the seating was already given, I'll get right down to the food. Steaks are what you come here for. There are no other charbroiled steaks as flavorful as these in the Michiana area. My husband even prefers them to Ruth's Chris. You get a generous hand cut 12-13 oz NY strip for $16.75, salad, potato, and garlic bread. Other items on the menu include a very tender rack of ribs, prime rib (Saturday Specials), fillet, a sirloin for 2, fried Chicken (they make it when you order this is the juiciest fried chicken you'll have.) Perch, burgers and a few other items we have yet to try. The appetizer selection is limited, I'm not thrilled with it, which is why I gave it a 4 stars instead of 5. The staff is very friendly and will accommodate your every need, children are welcome. Don't miss this gem the next time you're on the south side of South Bend. Depending on the weekend, you might want to call ahead for seating, and hours. I believe they are open for dinner only.

This place is cute on the inside. The outside is a little off setting because there are no windows and I always assume that if a restaurant doesn't have windows that means there are probably naked girls dancing in it. When I saw a family going in I figured it was safe, which it was. Inside every table or booth has its own little wooden stall, like in a barn. The food was good, but there wasn't a lot that wasn't fried.
