You know, I like MCL. Â They're generally friendly, and the food is standard cafeteria fare. Â In my opinion, the country needs more cafeterias -- they remind us of simpler times -- and the Indianapolis area is lucky to have so many. Â The food at MCLs tends to be pretty much the same quality at the various locations, although for some reason it seems to be saltier than it used to be. Â I am alway happy to be one of the youngest people in the place.
Review Source:MCL is what it is. I'm not the biggest fan of cafeterias. However, it was clean, the staff were very friendly and the portions were gigantic. So for a cafeteria, I rank it very high. I just wish I had remembered to check my Indy discount book. I realized later that there was a coupon. I would have enjoyed it more at half price.
Review Source:I love everything that MCL makes. It's a cafeteria that only Laughner's could match. Everything is down home Indiana cooking. The fried chicken is fabulous, the chicken and noodles is stick to your ribs good, and the hand carved roast beef will leave you with that satisfied, eyes getting glazed look. However, they have over a 1/2 dozen other entrees available every day and they are always rotating depending on the day of the week. They also have a large variety of salads, antipastos, and fruit combinations, jello with and without fruit and/or sugar, melt in your mouth rolls, and deserts with such variety you often have trouble deciding what to pick. Even though this is a cafeteria, the presentation is still very good with no dish just being slapped on a plate, your choice of starches and veggies are placed on the same dish (as space allows.) If you only go one time, get this: Fried Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, Green Beans or Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes with Brown Gravy, and Green Beans or Broccoli. (Watermelon or salad, desert optional.) Get the white rolls with both. The Iced Tea is bottomless. And please leave a tip since someone will come out to buss your table and offer you coffee/tea/iced tea.
So why four stars if you're raving about it. To eat here is expensive since everything is a la carte and I'm usually hungry and fill my eyes before my stomach - thus I overload the tray! Â And they close early, like 8:30pm. Â Definitely no blue heads out there at that time of night.
PS: I never liked green beans till I ate them here. Now its my favorite veggie!
