My three friends and I made plans Saturday evening to try out 3 Sisters Cafe the next morning.  Best decision...ever...well, as far as dining out is concerned.

We were slow moving due to a late night out and arrived at the cafe around 10:50 AM.  First impression; cute, quirky Victorian home in a quirky, vibrant neighborhood.  We found parking quickly, which is always a plus, but did see people hanging out on the porch, so knew to expect a wait.

The hostess greeted us warmly and gave us an estimated wait time of 30 minutes.  Wish I would've caught her name, but she was friendly and upbeat.  She undoubtedly knew she was dealing with hungry, cold, and possibly hung-over people.  The entry area is a bit tight, hey it is a Victorian, and drafty.  Warm beverages were offered and easily accessible to those of us waiting.  We four perused the menu and immediately decided we would have to order one of each, or make a blood-pact to come back again.  We were seated, within the given time, and given waters by the hostess.

Our server, who is also the owner, greeted us immediately and offered more warm, toasty beverages.  Now, I wish I could describe her personality, but I think in writing it would come out all wrong.  Simply put, she is amazing.  She made us feel as if we had known her forever and she was our favorite auntie.  She used cute pet names, touched our shoulders, and just gave out the best vibes.  Again, wish I could remember her name, but I will next time, because there will be a next time, oh yes, there will...

Decisions were made and the food arrived.  I had the daily special; pork belly with a corn cake topped with cooked apples and maple syrup.  Also, because I'm wild that way, I ordered a side of the calico hashbrowns.  So, yeah, pork belly.  There aren't enough hipster words to use for this delicacy.  It is fantastic and you should hope they serve it again.  The hashbrowns were yummy.  They're a combination of white and sweet potatoes.  Oh and the warm beverage was a cafe au lait, mmm mmm good!  Other happy food orders at the table were another special, the root & chicken sausage hash with eggs and toast, and a DDD favorite, the D'Nai sandwich with tomato vegetable soup.  We were happy, stuffed, warm-and-fuzzy feeling people, but still had one more item to order: the blueberry goat cheese pie!!  Get it, eat it, love it.  Unless you just can't stomach blueberries or that tangy goat-cheesiness, then you will enjoy it.

Bottom line: great service and food

We went on a Sunday morning and it was packed, but even so the wait was not long so don't let it discourage you. The menu is diverse and made with fresh ingredients. We loved it! I ordered an egg scramble and it was fantastic. The food came out quickly and we were very happy with the quality of the food. Highly recommend! I'll have to revisit a few more times to be sure but I'm positive this place will be a 5 star in my book here in the future.

Food: 5/5 - OMG! We saw someone ordered the breakfast burrito, HUGE!
Service: 5/5 - Our guy was super friendly
Location: 4/5 - It was freezing in there!!

My high hopes were quickly shot down when my sister and I encountered painfully slow service.  It was 2 in the afternoon so we were one of the few tables in the whole place but it took forever to get drinks, forever for her to come back for our order, forever to get the check, and forever to get the change.  I'm willing to wait forever if you are a friendly and attentive waitress but ours lacked a certain charm and knowledge.  Bummer.  The menu is great; lots of vegetarian and vegan options and a nice selection of teas and smoothies/juice.  I feel in my heart of hearts that your best bet might be ordering breakfasty foods as the lunch choices we made where just meh.  While good, the veggie club was bland and lacked "wow factor."  I went out on a limb and had the carrot ginger soup as my side. I wasn't a huge fan but the veggie soup my sis had was quite good and had an extra kick to it. She also had the fish tacos but they were unlike any fish tacos I have ever seen. A huge piece of fried fish sits on your plate waiting for you to cut and assemble it upon your tacos. Weird. I like the random assortment of tables and chairs and the feeling of being in Granny's house. I would consider 3 Sisters again but would venture to guess that my best bet is for breakfast.
