I was pretty excited to try this place. I know they're associated with Scotty's Brewhouse, and I love Scotty's.  I was visiting a friend in Indy over the weekend and he suggested eating here.

Based on my experiences with Scotty's in the past, I figured they would have a similar menu...nope, that was not the case. It was basically all pizza. And beer. But I don't like beer. And I had had like three pizzas that week. So, my initial experience is extremely biased. I guess that's my disclaimer.

Walking in, I was a little surprised at the layout. It seemed rather small and crowded, with picnic tables in the dining area and a large bar area off to one side.

We shared the Goat Cheese & Wise Men Marinara for an appetizer. It was okay.  It took a while for our food to make it to the table though. I ordered a Calzone with Mushrooms and Spinach, and it seems like all the food comes out on rectangle silver platters. My calzone was pretty huge. I remarked that it was seriously like a pizza folded in half, and my friend pointed out a sign behind me that pretty much said the exact same thing.  It was good though.

I thought about getting dessert, but nothing sounded too great. Plus, my friend seemed irritated after reading their menu and learning that their German Chocolate Cake did not have coconut.

Service was really slow, which was the biggest disappointment of the experience. After I'd eaten as much of my calzone as I could, we were just sitting around for a long time before the waitress got around to checking on us.

So they have pizza - true - but the real story is the apps and pizza. The double has good mouthfeel and a full bouquet of hops (think a degree below Bells Hopslam).

Seasonal beers are usually fun and more often than not quite appropriate.

Mofo? hot wings have some latent heat so this is your warning.

Fried pickles land in the 3/5 bucket as does the goat cheese and marinara app but when paired with the libations you get a whole new star!

The pizza is definitely cheating on your diet. Thin crust and drooping with the weight of the cheese - it definitely meets the needs of the comfort food required after that "tower" of beer runs dry.

In both the Pizza and the calzones - Goat Cheese seems to be a theme. A pleasant theme but nothing amazing.

In summary - this place is just a good time with reasonable prices, local brews, and friendly staff.

That 5th start will be reserved for when they add that last degree of creativity to make this not just a fun place to eat and hang out but also a unique culinary experience.

BTW - this place also has a backroom for groups that I just discovered. Three tables of six with 18 seats and a private 42? inch tv. Very secluded.

Best pizza in Indianapolis. The crust is thin, as it should be, tender in the center of the pie and a bit crispier around the edges. The tomato sauce is a tiny bit sweet, but temper that with some spicy sausage or goat cheese (both!). Their beer selection is awesome (try the Zoe IPA!).

If you're looking for a weekend 'za get there early or be prepared to wait. If you have to wait, and you likely will, score a beer and watch some hoops. During the week it's been easy to get a table and once the weather is nice you can eat outside on their tiny patio.

It's a loud place with a mix of adults and kids - so don't go in expecting deep conversation with your friends. You'll have to yell... but hey, it's pizza and beer, not the Ritz... Enjoy the free popcorn and score some Red Hots candy if you're nice to your waitress.
