Want to start off by saying love what they did in the remodel. Love the bar and the fact that on a Saturday as a party of 1 I could sit at the bar and read and not feel like I was taking but a valuable table space.
The reason for just two stars is the food was just okay not great and defiantly not worth what I paid for breakfast. I got the broke yoke sandwich with bacon and avocado. The eggs were over cooked( no runny goodness) and there was no seasoning on them, 1 piece of bacon, 2 avocado slices and there was just a lot of bread which wasn't all that tasty. The frites were okay a little soggy but the sauce that came with them is really good. The Bloody Mary was amazing, but how can you mess that up when you are using Hoosier momma Bloody Mary mix.
All in all the service and drinks were great something I would probably come back for.
Cafe Patachou for lunch and Petite Chou for dinner - don't judge me.....
I feel like people generally know about Cafe Patachou but for whatever reason people (OK....., me) don't really know much about Petite Chou.
My daughter and her boyfriend were down from Chicago and she found Petite Chou on-line and so we decided to give it a try. Â They have the "petite" thing down. Â Small but comfortable and inviting. Â I feel like this restaurant probably has as many regulars as Cafe Patachou. I now understand why. Â
Our group of seven tried the cheese tray and the mussels appetizers - great success - a nice combination with the Triton Magnificent Amber.
I had the Goat Cheese Salad and the Petite Chou Croque - had to try the namesake dish. Â Just the right amount of dressing on the salad, fresh and interesting combination of greens and two crostini with just the right sized layer of toasted goat cheese on top - go, now, get it - you'll be glad you did and you'll thank me......
I really enjoyed the Croque - it was ENORMOUS - ham, cheese, more cheese, deliciously toasted (grilled?) bread, more cheese, Dijon, more cheese. Â Oh, did I tell you there was cheese (but no "tte") on my Croque? Â
We all shared two of the crepes for desert - perfect way to end the evening.
I was generally impressed with the staff except for our waitress - maybe she was just having a bad day but she seemed a bit cold, didn't smile even once which seemed odd since everyone else that worked there seemed really warm and pleasant! Â It didn't detract from the meal or the overall experience - it was just odd.
Anyway - go - you'll understand why Martha Hoover is being considered for a Charles Beard Award.
A fabulous spot to go in Indy when you want to feel all fancy-like, in a French Provincial sort of way. I left our brunch determined to cover my apartment in embroidery, start a vegetable garden, and buy a Monet print.
Everything at Petite Chou was soooo fresh! I enjoyed my smoked salmon tartine, though I do wish I had chosen something less simple, something that would've really showcased what Petite Chou can create. Mais, c'est la vie.
I tried my sister's Tomato and Artichoke soup, which was delicious, but the little minx wolfed down the chicken salad tartine she got with the combo before I could try it! The Pomme Frites were tasty too, but I think the brunch cocktails really stole the show for us boozers. I was pleased as champagne punch to have more bubbly options than the standard mimosa, and the Lavender did not disappoint!
Speaking in the terms of classic French understatement, the Petite Chou was "pas mal".
