Not as good as the Oregon City location. Bacon on my burger was almost raw and even though I specified well done on my burger, it was a lot closer to rare. Fries were just under hot enough as if they sat on the counter for a while and limp. I sat at the bar and after several minutes a waitress finally asked if I had been helped. Â I guess they don't have a bartender. Overall I think my 3 star rating might be a bit of a sttetch.
Review Source:I am a fan of the McMenamins chains--all across Oregon. I am truly one of the faithful, I will go to any restaurant with their name on it.
As usual there was artwork by local artists. These murals were beautiful. Rather than clumsily describe it, I took some pictures of them.
The food is good American fare. I enjoyed my Mac and Cheese thoroughly.
To give you a sense of the creativity of the McMenamin chain: one of the restaurants was converted insane asylum, another was a school and there are many others. This particular restaurant didn't seem to be converted from anything, but it had character--from the murals to the indoor patio scaffolding to the numerous potted plants hanging from the ceiling.
So many haters of Mcmenamins! I've had nothing but decent to great experiences at most of their locations. Since this one is right down the hill from my house, Â we eat there on average once a month. Only complaint is their overpriced, skimpy drinks (even wine!) so we usually try to eat there and drink elsewhere.
When my husband and I fight we order a Communication breakdown burger and make nice nice ;)
Recently moved to west linn and after a long day of unloading and unpacking my friend and I decided to go out for a bite to eat and a drink. Unfortunately we ended up here as it was the only place open at 11:30 at night that night. Long story short, bartender rimmed by Spanish coffee glass with salt and when I said something she looked at me like I was stupid (bartenders everywhere should know its supposed to be sugar); also at one point I had to get up from my table and STAND AND THE ENTRANCE OF THE KITCHEN JUST TO GET THE WAITRESSES ATTENTION!!!! My friend ordered a burger on a GF bun which was the only decent part of the experience and after 3 well drinks, 1 spanish coffee and a burger we had spent $40 (without a tip which i did not leave, something i NEVER do) so thank god the burger was at least edible.
All in all, god awful terrible horrendous service, over priced food and drinks, and bartenders who dont know how to make drinks that arnt on their list of offered cocktails.
Will not ever be back.
This is probably the worst restaurant between the Canadian Yukon and Patagonia.
I get that West Linn is a wasteland when it comes to decent food but the service here is just fucking terrible. Everyone here should be fired. There is no excuse for the crap they pull.
The lack of a bartender at 6pm on a Friday night shows that they either don't have a GM or that person is the biggest idiot on earth.
The food isn't good enough for the staff to behave the way they do here. '
This place should be burned to the ground and the employees should be beaten.
Terrible.
Just terrible.
Wow, I can't believe I just ate the worst Fish & Chips in USA (NO STAR FROM ME)!!!! I can't believe this McMe is still survive in this economy! Â I guess they are supporting by other McMes. Â
BUT, my waiter was cute, nice, friendly & provided great service. Â
I love the atmosphere, interior & decorations!
SO, do come here but don't eat the food, just drink and hang out with your buddies. :)
Oh... my... goodness... WORST LUNCH EVER! I would give no stars if I could...
Let me break this down for you:
1. We stood at the front door for a while, when signs say "Please Wait to be Seated", we listen. The restaurant being EMPTY, I thought maybe they were short staffed, and pacing the seating- no biggie. Until someone told us to sit wherever.
2. We waited at the table, another while to even be awknowledged by a server. We ordered drinks, that came a little more than half full, and after about 10 minutes of more sitting.
3. Our food took forever, and tasted alright. I mean, luckily, the food tastes the same wherever you go. We had a third person coming so we ordered for him, hoping that it would be there by the time he arrived.
4. We didnt get refills, the waitress never asked, actually. When our third person got there about 20 minutes later, his food was about 15 minutes out still- according to the waitress. Don't ever ask for condiments, you'll never get it, you might as well eat a dry burger, because its better when its warm. She never asked if he might want something to drink. When she came back, someone asked for a refill, and she completely ignored the request. Also, when the third meal did arrive, it looked like crap... terrible- falling apart, thrown on the plate.
5. No bill for 30 more minutes? We could have walked out an no one would have noticed. Our server was too busy talking to her coworkers about something apparently better than letting us leave!
What should have been a quick, and at most an hour meal, took almost 2. I LOVE McMENAMINS, I really do... but this place is terrible.
I have to agree with the other reviewers. Â I am not a huge McMinnemanimmmanins fan, but one thing that many of the other locations offer is a different kind of vibe and experience due to the choice of building, whether it is the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, CPR in Hillsboro, or the Kennedy School. Â These places make going to a McMinnaminemanimmnins enjoyable due to atmosphere. Â
This place is located in a strip mall off of exit 6 on I-205. Â What happens here is that they try to replicate the feel of the other buildings, but you still know that you are in a strip mall environment. Â The food is below average, the beer is OK. Â One thing that this place has going for it is that the service was surprisingly peppy and friendly. Â This is not the norm for this local chain. Â Both the server and the bartender were extremely friendly and helpful. Â This is probably why I give it 2 rather than 1 star. Â
If you are in the area, I would continue driving either north or south on 205 to get food and beverage.
All McMenamins are not created equal. Not even close.
My rule of thumb with their properties is to start with a three rating (since the food and service don't seem to vary much) and then grade up or down for atmosphere. Chances are, if you've heard a rave about McMenamins, people are talking about Kennedy School, Edgefield or one of the other properties where they've converted a historic building and/or have unique amenities (movie theater, golf course, hotel, spa, etc.).
If you aren't from the area and stumble into one of their neighborhood pubs, I imagine there must be some disappointment and puzzlement about why someone would recommend you go there.
A decade ago, the brew pubs were pretty cool, but they have a lot more competition these days and McMenamins' casual pubs really haven't changed. My family still likes their burgers, fries and beer, and they have a decent happy hour, but that's about it. This location is in a strip mall and the outdoor patio overlooks the freeway entrance. There is really no way I can recommend this place over other local restaurants and it isn't in the same league as many other McMenamins properties.
