Yesterday I decided to try Mick Kelly's Irish Pub for the first time. Â So the atmosphere here is just wonderful. Â It's warm and inviting. Â Dim lighting, great Irish music playing. Â The owner is very friendly and helpful. Â It's nice to see a restaurant/bar owner working the bar AND going to tables to see if the customers are satisfied. Â We started out with the Stuffed Mushrooms. Â AMAZING. Â Best I've ever had really. Â So tasty and perfectly cooked. Â We then had to try the hummus. Â Again, perfect and tasty along with the hot soft pita bread. Â I ordered the Paddy Melt. Â I was going to order something bigger, but decided to keep it simple after the amazing and filling appetizers. Â Bread was perfectly grilled. Â Meat was moist and onions grilled perfectly. Â I tried a mixed drink and it was pretty tasty. Â Dangerously tasty. Â Next I decided to try the Kilkenny Cream Ale. Â I'm not much of a dark beer person... Ok I'm not a dark beer person at all. Â This beer was AMAZING. Â So smooth. Â I absolutely loved it. Â The head was creamy and beautiful. Perfectly poured. Â Tasty. Â I fell in love with this beer...
So much so that my friend and I came in today to try the beer and brat special. Â $7 for a beer and a brat is a really good deal! Â Again, I had to have the Cream Ale. Â Just as good the second time! Â Now the brat... I'm not a huge brat fan... This one, was so good! Â Cooked perfectly, it was so flavorful. Â When it came out, it doesn't look like anything special. Â Just a brat on a bun with grilled onions and dijon mustard. Â One bite and I was sold. Â Best tasting brat I've had. Â The bun tasted like it was made that morning. Â Onions grilled just right, not too greasy, not over cooked, not burnt. Â If you get this, don't add ANYTHING to it. Â Trust me, it's already perfect.
Now my only complaint is the wait staff. Â We were seated by one girl, menu's given, and she disappeared to help others. Â Came back to get a drink order, and someone else brought them, which is fine. Â The waiter took probably 15 minutes to come over to us. I believe we had to flag him over. Â This wouldn't have been a problem if the restaurant had been busy. Â But it was a wednesday evening and there weren't a whole lot of people there yet. Â He acted like he had better things to do and it was really hard to get him to come to our table. Â We ordered our first appetizer and he brought that back. Â After that, we had to flag him down for our hummus. Â We didn't see him again for a while and the owner actually had to take our dinner order, AND brought it out to our table. Â Â The waiter NEVER came back over to our table over the next 2.5 hours we were there. Â He went to the table on either side of ours, but not once did he check to see how we were doing. Â Very disappointed. Â
The owner went above and beyond by checking on us, making sure things were good, and was very polite the entire time (both times I was there). Â For him, and the amazing food and beer, I will definitely be back. Â As for the waiter, I hope he's not there the next time I come in. Â If he is, I will for sure sit at the bar near the owner! Â That man knows how to treat a customer!
It's a bit of a trek for me, so I've only ever come on Sundays, but I always enjoy myself. There's an Irish social dance group that meets in the back every week (at least until July, resuming in the fall) and they usually have live musicians. And yes, other patrons are welcome to join. =) http://www.hoilands.com/… Â
I'm not a big fan of Irish fare so I can't compare those menu items with other pubs, but I like the other grub and cider. Â I haven't been impressed with the wait staff but neither have they scared me away. Â
If you're curious about Irish dance that average people enjoy (Riverdance is awesomely beyond me), or even just want to watch and enjoy the music while you eat, I totally recommend you check this place out on a Sunday evening (dancing is 7-9).
Although their french fries are AMAZING and their food always tastes fresh and delicious, the service at this place is why I am so hesitant to go back. Â I live in Burien and this place has come a long way since its opening years ago. Â However, I have never experienced worse service on a slow Saturday night than I have here.
Waiting OVER ten minutes just to have someone approach our table (Its a seat-yourself place) is a disaster in itself. Â Luckily there was one menu waiting on the table so we all were able to order everything at once. Â The waitress who took our order did not have a pen or paper and half of our order was wrong. Â At this point, we were SO hungry after waiting for our food for just under an hour, that we didnt tell her that we didnt get certain things we had ordered. Â No one came back for followup service and there wasnt even silverware. Â I actually got up and was going to ask the bartender who didnt seem to be doing anything, but found the silverware cart and got my own. Â
For a place that should be a really positive dining experience, the service killed it. Â I have had more than a few of these horrible service nights there and I think its time to avoid this place all together since I dont have 3 hours to go out to dinner.
What what Trivia bingo! How super fun! Last night a gang of us came here for dinner drinks and trivia. I have never played trivia bingo before but that was super fun, especially since it's random trivia so each of us had our own knowledge to contribute. I also won a raffle, but couldn't answer the question so I didn't get the $80. Ah well.
Their food was really good. I had a beef Irish stew which was HUGE, and when I say huge I mean HUGE and very tasty with tender meat. Â The Shepard pie and pot pies looked good as did the wings, Irish nachos and the burger. All good food...plus the group I went with goes often and they said the food is almost always good. I'd say this is a good 4 stars. Â
My only mark downs, The wait staff seemed a bit overwhelmed so getting drink refills was sometimes a challenge. Â Three of the six of us had to order items twice because they were forgotten which was a bummer. We had to give up on the beloved bread pudding since it was forgotten then it took forever to get our servers attention.
A friend and I came in for a few beers yesterday after having a late lunch down the street. There were a few people seated at the bar and about half the tables in the restaurant were occupied. We had to wait a few minutes before the bartender took our orders but he did acknowledge us pretty shortly after sitting down, so it wasn't a big deal. We were into the ambiance; A little dark, playing flogging molly off someone's ipod and service that was on the friendly side of sarcastic. Â
We got to overhear some discussions between the bartender and what I assume was the manager that they realized someone had come in, no one helped him and he walked out. It seems like maybe they have some new wait staff and they're working through challenges, but personally if I go in somewhere that says to seat myself and no one comes by, I'd wander up to the bar before just turning around and walking out.
I'm not a huge fan of Irish food, but I'd definitely swing back by for a beer because the prices were reasonable and there wasn't a hipster in sight.
The Truth About Mick Kelly's Irish Pub (Burien)
Let me get this out of the way now; THE ONLY REASON I am giving this place 2 stars is because they occasionally have live music and the nod to Irish heritage is prevalent and food is sometimes **OK.** Â They truly deserve 1 star (as many reviewers have given and explained why). It is hard not to echo some of these other bad reviews as I base my review on my own personal experiences, - but I am here to dish out the truth, so here goes:
I have a few close friends who live in Burien, so we frequently find ourselves in the, "B-Town" loop for dinner, drinks - whatever. Â We have given this place several chances. It is the promise of a "late night Happy Hour," the occasional live music, the lack of options in the neighborhood, and partly an interest in Irish heritage that kept us coming back. Â Kept, -past tense. No more. Â
The, "Late night Happy Hour" is somewhat of a joke. It is mostly the food that is discounted and I must admit, they have a nice selection of items for the discounted food...WHEN they decide to offer it. It is printed and advertised to run until 11pm, -but forget it if you get there past 10, it is rushed and with a sigh, visible grief, and delivered to you - begrudgingly. One time it was so rushed, the chicken skewers were RAW in the middle. Arrive at 10:30 and forget it completely. Every time we have tried to show up at 10:30 or after - they say, "sorry we just sent the cook home." ??? This is known as false advertising and also a, "bait and switch." and apparently, the drinks (on our last visit) were also off the, "Late Night Happy Hour" as well, because the total for a single Jameson Rocks, and a double Absolut Mandarin was $24.09. Yes, you read that correctly, $24.09. That means not only is there no deal on cocktails during their so-called, "Happy Hour," but they are not shy about passing the tax on to the customer. Normally, how the tax works on liquor licensed establishments, is that the food is taxable - but since there is already so much tax on the Liquor, -at the state distribution level, the leftover tax is usually absorbed by the licensee - NOT the consumer. This is NOT tax on the booze - it has been paid already. This is a SALES tax. UNLESS, food service appears on the bill, and even THEN, most places do not tax the entire bill, the booze is separated. In this case, there was no food service. It was straight up, $24.09 for 2 cocktails. Plus we got to endure the tax. Lucky us! But much of this could be overlooked, - save for the service... which brings me to the most poignant point you need to understand about Mick Kelly's in Burien...
If Mick Kelly's Irish Pub in Burien aired a commercial for hiring bartenders and servers, it would sound something like this;
'Are you miserable, generally unhappy and loathe waiting on customers? Are you un-engaging? Were you fired from your last job because you didn't see the merit in treating customers with dignity and respect? Does the sight of customers walking through the door make you want to go disappear out back and have a cigarette? Do you relish in ignoring customers and/or making them wait for no apparent reason? Do you enjoy arguing with customers? If you answered, YES, -WE WANT TO HIRE YOU!!! Â
- All of this (and more) my friends and I have experienced religiously at this place. Â The bartenders - ALL of them - have little to no business behind a bar. Paint sitting in a can has more personality and is more interesting than their bartenders. Â It's an odyssey. Â As many other reviewers have also stated here (in so many words). Â Read the other 1 and 2 star reviews posted here, and you will truly find even more of the TRUTH about Mick Kelly's Irish Pub in Burien. Â
We are hereby avoiding this place at all cost, and I recommend you do too.
I come here about once every other week for lunch. I don't come evenings because I heard it gets busy and I'm not a very patient person. I've had nearly everything on the menu and have loved most of it. I'm not big on the Irish Classics so its not their fault my pallet isn't upto Irish cuisine. Their Fish and Chips are awesome. Great batter, fresh fish, you can't beat it. The burgers are pretty good too. Instead of circle, prefrozen patties they come in a rectangle shape which is unique. It shows they make the patties themselves. They are served on french bread which I thought was odd but tastes amazing! However my favorite dish at this place has to be the lamb chops. As an 80's child I'm a fan of lamb chops, sings alongs and songs that never end... (If you were born after the 1991 you are probably to young to understand that amazing reference. Go ahead and google it this review can wait) Now back to the lamb chops. They are amazing, better then the steak. I order mine medium for a nice crust on the outside and juicy inside. They are a little expensive about $16 bucks a plate but well worth it.
The horrible service everyone is yelping about I haven't experienced first hand. I've never seen a bouncer outside and I've never seen a man work the bar. Like I said I usually go for lunch but I've always had the same blonde bartender. She is very nice and likes to joke with the customers. I guess if you don't have a sense of humor you could take offense but I've never been offended by her jokes. At lunch time the bartender works the whole floor so she can get busy but I've never been late back to work from lunch because of it and if I ever need anything its also brought to me promptly.
Overall this is my favorite lunch place in Burien. Good food, quick service and reasonable prices.
I visited this pub on a Saturday afternoon. Â They were less than half full and there were seats at the bar. Â I ordered a beer. Â I got the beer. Â I then asked for a lime and a glass. Â The bartender gave me quite a dirty look and told me that I was high maintenance. Â I must have look rather surprised as then he said very rudely, I suppose you are also going to want two waitresses to wait on your every request. Â I don't know why he was so rude but I knew I didn't want to stay in such a hostile atmosphere. Â I asked for my check when I was almost through with my beer. Â He had charged me for TWO beers and I only had one and hadn't even been there very long. Â He was quite rude about correcting the bill too. Â I will never go back to this place and can't imagine how it stays open with such a rude jerk bartender.
Review Source:I used to stop here rather often on Saturday evenings to enjoy a couple pints of Guiness.
Went there this past Saturday. After my wife ordered a water (because she doesn't drink) the very annoying bartender said WATER? WATER? WATER? WATER? as if he was funny or something.
Then he asked if we were going to order food. I told him no we had already eaten. Howvere my wife was reading the menu and he awkwardly yanked it out of her hand and said you drink water you can't look at the menu. Again a sad attempt at being funny.
The whole thing was confusing. Its not like this dude knew us or was cool with us at all. Needless to say shitty service like that we will not be back. We will be spending our money at a good bar with good customer service like Eliott Bay Brewery down the street.
Usually good service, but tonight stopped in because it didn't look too busy. I had my sons with me and just wanted to get a quick dinner and head home. Things started off fine. Got a table, menus, drinks and food quickly. The service all but stopped after that. No check back and drink refills, waited about 30min to get the check, then another 20min for them to actually pick it up. Worst service there ever. I think they put all thier effort into the large group that showed up and went into the banquet room and ignored the restaurant in the front.
Review Source:Everyone in my little friendship circle always brags about Mick Kelly's Irish Pub, at least the Burien one being the best thing since sliced bread.
Truthfully, nothing could be further from the truth, as our last couple of experiences together have proven to be a bit of a hinderance to the reputation of this joint
I will go all the way and admit that I am a bit of a slob, so a slightly dirty restaurant is no biggie for me to eat...unless of course I get food poisoning as a result of eating there. The point of the matter was that I did notice some bits and bobs lingering about in our booth that were improperly cleaned, as a yelper pointed out.
The real teeth-grinder is the service here, it is the worst thing since your first automobile accident. Â Folk left and right seem to evade your table when its obvious that your done with your food and ready to move on. There also is a trend of not giving you your food on a consistent basis, or outright forgetting to give you certain goodies. Â I've frequently yelled out "CHECK PLEASE!" at waiters and waitress before to no avail. Â So we all have to track them down to get our checks or service.
An untested remedy to this lack-o-service is to lightly drum on your tables chanting "SERVICE" over and over again until you get some....
All in all, the foods okay, not much to say about it due to me being a burger lover, and not much else, but the service needs adjustment.
The food here is tasty! I've been here a couple of times and tried different dishes. If you like a kick to your pasta, I would recommend the Spicy Prawn Pasta (I believe it's called). Delicious! And their corned beef and cabbage is YUM. I also love their fries -- a must have every time. I don't know what it is (I'm not sure if this is true, but their fries are battered?).
I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. Friendly and quick service for the most part, but I would suggest a couple of them be more sociable.
It's very casual and laid-back.
After being here a few more times, I am happy to update my review.
Maybe its the HH service or maybe I'm just happy, but this is a very good place to be during happy hour!
The HH menu is diverse and reasonably priced.
I enjoy HH in the summertime because of their outdoor seating and on occasion the farmers market is across the way held in the courtyard.
No Boddington, but Kilkney is a nice creamy ale that will do just fine!
Service is happy and good even on the patio!
It was okay, better the first time I went though. This time I had the large chef's salad with seafood (crab and shrimp)---but it was pretty dinky for the price---and very little crab. Â I actually thought he had brought me the small salad. Â There was nothing really special about it---and it needed more dressing.
Daughter had delicious a steamed clam appetizer swimming in a yummy broth....but nothing to sop it up with, neither bread nor spoon. Â The waiter commented on me improvising a spoon with a clam shell but he STILL didn't bring me a spoon, good grief.
I am basing this review on one bouncer, since I never actually got in the bar.
Three friends and I decided to stop by this bar one night, and my friend parked on the other side of the road instead of directly in front of the bar. When we got to the door the bouncer asked him why he parked over there instead of right in front of the bar, and then started telling him how suspicious it was. Which was very strange.
Then the bouncer said he needed to frisk all of us before he could let us in. I have been to many, many bars and I have never been frisked before entering. At sports events, and concerts yes, but not at a bar. I wasn't even necessarily opposed to it, but I just wanted to know why, so I asked him. Then he just freaked out and started screaming at us, and telling us to get the F out of there before he called the police.
It was seriously an insane experience. It's not like any of us were dressed like thugs, or were doing anything to appear dangerous in anyway. All I did was ask why he needed to frisk us when I have never had to be frisked to enter a bar before and he went absolutely crazy.
I personally wouldn't want to go to a bar that treated their patrons like this, so I would recommend you avoid this place.
Although the atmosphere of the pub is nice, the food is really below par. Â I've had burgers (blah), fish & chips (greasy fish, although the fries are nice), corned beef & cabbage (bland), Shepherd's pie (again bland). Â It can all be summed up with the irish soda bread served with certain meals, which is served ice cold and won't melt the ice cold butter they expect you to spread on it. Â Could easily be improved with some attention to the meals (drain grease from the fish, add a little salt, and warm the bread, for Pete's sake). Â I hope they do.
Review Source:I come every Monday night for trivia. Nice, clean, low-key atmosphere. Service is attentive and friendly, the food is great and the beer selection is good. Â
Their Guinness beef stew is hearty and delicious. Â The burgers are wonderful-big hand-formed patties perfectly seared on the outside. Â Unique and tasty fries-both regular and sweet-potato. Â Big happy hour appetizer menu after 9 pm.
One gripe-the Guinness is served too cold. Â I usually order Stella.
All in all a nice place to relax in the South end.
Mick Kelly's = Service with a sneer.
The food is pretty good - but the service is GAWDAWFUL. It took twenty minutes to be GLANCED at by our waitress, then another twenty to get our drinks. It took forever to get our food, even longer for another drink or our bill.
This is not the first time I've experience poor service here. I'm not sure why, but the people working there seem REALLY unhappy and unhelpful. Sure - places get busy - but we are PAYING and TIPPING! Mick Kelly's needs an attitude adjustment.
I would love to go back here again if I had the money... and if they had their pool table back!!!!!!
The last time I was here, was for me 21st b-day and I LOVED IT!!!! Nothing like having a few drunk friends, playing pool, awesome drinks with equally awesome food.
Just one thing, I like playing pool while I drink and this was some place close to where I live. But they took it out for even more TV's and more tables.
Ok, so take this review with a grain of salt because we didn't actually eat anything while we were there, and I will update if we ever do (not likely though!), that said.....
We were shopping in Burien and looking for a happy hour, I had walked past this place a few times and thought it looked fun so we figured we would give it a try. We walked in and were greeted by nobody, searched around the bar for a clean table to no avail (crusty food everywhere!). We finally found 2 chairs at at the bar (10 minutes later, still not acknowledged by anyone!) and sat down. As soon as we did, we heard the bartender yelling at one of her rail customers that she would not be able to get him another beer for awhile because her "big top was needy." First of all, any bartender worth their salt knows that the rail is your top priority, period! Secondly, why does the bartender have a big top? There were at least 2 servers walking around.
Anyways, after spending this much time unacknowledged in a dirty restaurant only to hear the bartender get snippy at a man for wanting another beer (gasp!), we got up and left. It turned out to be a good decision because we went to Elliott Bay and had an awesome happy hour (read my review!).
I like this place a lot, for a variety of reasons.
The atmosphere is warm & inviting, and the service is consistently good. (Note: If you're going to be offended by your server not stopping by your table every five minutes, this might not be the spot for you.)
It's a great place to watch European soccer. So, if you're on the south end and interested in catching some games, this is far and away your best option. There are always some fun people to watch with, too. They also have live music on a regular basis.
The food is great. The Guinness stew in particular stands out. It's amazingly flavorful & filling, and perfect for a cool day. Plus it comes with soda bread, which I love. The fish & chips are also delicious, but beware--the fries are strangely addicting.
If you come here during happy hour, you can easily fill up on tasty food & beers at great prices. They have all of the beers you'd expect to find at an Irish pub, and a few that are usually hard to find.
If you're looking for a great Irish pub, I definitely recommend Mick Kelly's!
I often come here for lunch as it's really close by the courthouse where I work. Their Guinness Beef Stew is excellent - hearty, dense, and flavorful, everything a beef stew should be. Â I am also a fan of their excellent fish and chips. Â Normally, I get fish and chips as a last resort, since I think there's nothing exceptional about that dish. Â However, the beer batter on the cod is really light and quite good. Â Also, their fries are on the thicker side, which is tasty. Â They also have great coleslaw, which comes with the fish and chips.
Other things that I've gotten there:
Fried chicken and fries - the fried chicken was good, but I wouldn't get it again. Â There was flavor to the crispy skin but I thought that it could have used some salt.
Steak salad - it was okay. Â Not the best ever.
They do have a pretty large menu, with something for everyone. Â They have a lot of good sandwiches too. Â And their happy hour is a good way to try out all the various appetizers for a very reasonable price.
Generally I'm not a huge fan of Irish pubs... mainly because there are no Irish people in them. This one does have a few though, both the owners and a bartender or two. They have all the basics an irish pub needs: stella, guiness, a fireplace and a decent menu of usual irish stews and briskets to choose from.
The cool thing about this place is that its a traditional pub in the sense that you can bring your kids in durring the day and dump them on a babysitter at night to come back for the dancing and music. When we arrived around 9pm last night there were gaggles of adorable little childdren in their sunday best running through the main room laughing and playing. That was great, then they left and the music started and so did the scandalous dancing.
I'll admit Mick's is in a small town so they get more then their fair share of scantilly clad hoes on the dance floor working their hiney's and generally being obnoxious sticking their boobs out to get service thus depriving me of my seat and my beer. It took the bar tender longer to notice my not quite as revealed chest as the other girls so my service was a little slow.
The drinks were ok, a little on the basic side but that was expected... it is a pub you should get the beer. I had fun last night and I'll be back when I'm in that area of town again.
-Fantastic Irish Turkey Dinner (It's my favorite, and I always tend to be biased towards my favorites on repeat visits)
-Sound can be a little loud at times
-Friendly, handsome staff
-Service isn't always insanely fast, but certainly not slow either
-Fantastic Desserts, including Red Velvet Cake!
-Plenty of seating, inside and out
MIck Kelly's is a good pub-type place to go. They have a nice atmosphere, with occasional live music. They also have a projection tv for sporting events.
The service is generally good, although occasionally a little slow. They have Boddington's Cream Ale on tap, which is really hard to find.
The beef stew and shepherd's pie are always good. We've had some other dishes that were wildly inconsistent from one serving to the next.
I went in on a Friday Night, it was before the band was about to play. (got a little crowded for seats) also because their was a big birthday party 4-5 tables were reserved. Â
The staff & patrons speak like they are from Ireland or England?, Small quant feeling. The buffalo wings are good!
It was a fun place it's funky, querky & laidback all in one! and with the staff & all thier sassin' in talks that you partly understand makes you feel as if you left the the country for a brief moment for some brews!
seams to be HIP HAPPENING at least on Fridays after 8pm.
Would be a blast on New Years Eve!
Sorta bummed.
Runny clam chowder? Boo. Fish and chips? Let's say half the plate was empty. I know it was lunchtime but goodness sakes, we both left hungry.
Inattentive server who forgot to ask "Can I get you anything else?" . Ouch.
Having to chase him down for a refill? Meh.
I can understand when it's busy...but it wasn't. Our server seemed completely uninterested in being there. No smile, Poor thing, maybe his girlfriend broke up with him, or the neighbors were playing loud music all night.
On the brighter side of things, it was a gorgeous day to sit on the patio. And the house viniagrette is great.
Mick will get a second chance, let's not reduce this place to "hit or miss", it's been consistently great in the past.
You know what I love besides bang or the buck? Consistency. This place has it -- big time. Every time I have come in has been a treat. From the Caesar salad to the guinness stew to the fabulous rueben to the seafood pasta to the shepards pie...yum. The best of the bunch us the braised mushroom appetizer. Order it. Now.
Solid food + solid bang for the buck + solid service + consistency = a winning combo.
Mick Kelley's? Yes please.
I'm grading on a curve since it's in Burien which bumps up the rating from two stars to three. Â The place itself is pretty nice with decent food and ok beer selection, although they don't have many local brews which is too bad. The downside is that every time I've been the service has been slow, not usually too picky about service but our pitchers were empty for a half hour. Â Also depending on the time of day there can be quite a few families with young kids which can get noisy. Great if you are going for the Applebee's/Red Robin vibe but can detract from the Irish Pub atmosphere. Â However I do get they are trying to serve the whole community so I understand their wanting to cast a wide net for business.
Overall good place, but not great.
Wow! When I went in to have dinner here with a friend, we were just thinking dinner and a few drinks. But after 10, the place turns in to a semi night club. They move the tables out of the way and let the people loose. It get amazingly packed on a Saturday night, and since Im fairly new to the area, I like that I can let loose not far from the house.
I recommend getting there early on Saturday if your planning on staying to party. We went out for a smoke after we had been there for a while and there was a line to get into the place. Crazy.
Good food, good beer and great ambiance.
We followed friends to a 40th birthday party on a Saturday night. A lot of youngin's 'clubbin' at Mick Kelly's. The only club in Burien. A nice place to have a private party.
The place was packed with early 20'sters. Music was blasting. We thread through the back of the restaurant towards the birthday party. It was curtained off and private. The appetizers was in the middle and displayed nicely. There were marinated beef skewers, egg rolls and I think it was quesadillas - all good, not bad for being cold. The waitress was prompt to get our drink orders.
The highlight of the night was a brawl in the men's bathroom. A beer bottle was thrown in the hallway from the bathroom and 6 guys, including my bf, ran inside after it was thrown. It was something about one guy talking cr@p about another guy's mother - a lot of testosterones at work. Another highlight was reuniting with an ex-coworker that was the neighbor to the birthday girl.
I will have to come back and try their Irish food. Of course, check out the ambience of this place at a normal time.
A MUST GO and TRY again.
Okay I have always had mix experiences here. For the most part it is always a good experience. But I have found if you are not in there with someone knows the owners you are going to get crappy service.
This is a great place to go for drinks with friends. Its a laid back place with a chill vibe. IF you are there on the week days they have theme nights which I am not a fan of but it seems to really draw in some business. Seems fun.
On weekends if you went to JFK as I did you are in for a high school reunion. You at least run into about 10 or so kids that you went to high school with. Sometimes not so fun.
Anyway
As for the food its good. I have had several items off the menu and never had a complaint.
The last time I went there it took them nearly 20 mins after we walked in to get us water. When our food finally arrived my friends mom still had not gotten her beer...which came shortly after the food arrived. My food and my friends food was fine but my friends mom food was cold. After they heated it up it was just to spicy to eat by its self.
All in all I will go back just because I like this place. I really Hope the service gets better.
Big Bonus they serve Finamore!
Had some errands to do south of town and decided to do dinner while out. Â The husband suggested we try one of the new places in the ever-evolving Burien. Â Being Irish pub fans, we opted for Mick Kelly's.
We were brought menus almost immediately upon sitting down. Â The waitress who brought the menus took our drink order. Â Drinks were brought quickly, but our waitress had turned into a waiter. Â He stayed with us the rest of the night and gave fine, if a bit unenthusiastic, service.
We started with the crab and artichoke dip, which was a disappointment. Â Very light on the artichoke and even lighter on the crab. Â Large chunks of it were cream cheese, which did not warrant the $9.95 price. Â Plus it was bland. Â I kept adding salt and lemon to try to jazz it up a bit. Â It was served with tortilla chips and chunks of garlic toast that were so hard we considered adding a couple of pieces to the stone path we are curently building.
I had the bangers and mash which was quite good, though they could have been a bit more generous with the actual bangers. Â The accompanying mushroom gravy was quite tasty. Â It was served with a "side" Â of peas that was large enough to feed the entire town of Wasilla. Â Twice. Â My husband had the roast turkey dinner which he reports was made with real, actual freshly roasted turkey and which he much enjoyed.
In short, not horrible, not great. Â Not worth jaunting all the way down to Burien just go there. Â But, if we happened to be in the neighborhood, can't say we would not stop in again.
Are you into some of the best steamer clams in the greater Seattle area? You must try Mick Kelly's then... (and the Bloody Mary's were great too - fresh, no pre-mixes, nice spice). My sweetie and I recently visited this well kept establishment and enjoyed a very nice lunch on a Saturday afternoon. They have traditional Irish delicacies as well as many other possibilities. The steamer clams were to die for.... small Manilas swimming in a wonderfully buttery white wine nectar with onion, garlic and topped with gremolada served with a nice hard roll to sop it up with. You can't go wrong here.
We also partook of the Killybeg Crab Cakes atop a sun-dried tomato aioli sauce.... yummy. My sweetheart didn't think they were the best she's had but did say they were the best she's had in the Seattle area. I thought they were just right. They were served with a lemon rice pilaf that was shades of The San Francisco Treat, but that's not what we were there for.
Lastly we had to try one of the traditional Irish dishes, Shepherd's Pie. It was simple, straightforward and filling. It was a bit bland for our taste, however it was good.
All in all we had a very enjoyable lunch and have found a place that is comfortable, quiet (at least during the day - I doubt it was QUIET on Monday - St Patrick's Day) nice atmosphere, friendly people, and for you guys... the waitresses are cute (sorry honey) and I guarantee we will be seen there again and again.
I came in here first a few years ago on a Thurs. at about 4pm. Â I enjoyed myself. Â The decor is nice, a few paintings (for sale of course), dark wood and some nice big booths you can snuggle into. Â I had some meat dish with potatoes and a good dark beer. Â It was perfect.
Ahem. Â I've come in since, about three times. Â Once was on a Friday night where it seems they turn a disco ball on and all the "thugs" and "tools" come out from hiding (attracted to the disco ball lika a moth to a flame). Â It was embarrassing as I had one of my Ballard lasses out to show her the southend wasn't all g'd out as it's hyped up to be. Â "My bad".
The next was for breakfast with the BF after a really long night of drinking elsewhere. Â Not too fun to come here with a hangover. Â Everything echoes, there were tons of kids...crying/screaming and the food was definitely different. Â The tip is if you've never had Irish food, try it before buying it because I got an expensive lesson in my own personal taste!
I'll stick to coming here for happy hour on a week day if I frequent it again.
This Irish Pub is a very nice addition to Burien downtown gentrification process. Â The place can get a little busy at times, but Mick is often present to make sure that the food and beverages make it to the table in a timely manner. Â
On a damp and cold day, nothing beats a nice hearty Guiness stew with a hunk of Irish soda bread. Â The prices are reasonable and different portion sizes are available. Â There is often live music. Â We really like Jeff Baird's sets on Saturday afternoons. Â
It is also childfriendly place in the morning and afternoons. Â They provide an Etch a Sketch for entertainment until the food arrives.
After living in Burien most of my life, and yes by choice, I was glad when Mick Kellys moved into town. We really needed a little something different and they seemed to fill part of the void. While they were all the rave when they first opened and they have kept strong ever since. they have a great back room and catering for large parties and they place gets packed on weekends and bustles for dinner. Their prices are good and the servings a huge. The staff is friendly and fun and treat you like family.
They do a lot for the community and host a ton of fundraiser a for local charities.
