So mickie Finnz is the place to be, If that means watching the football game, basketball game, mma fight, or just plain have a couple brewskies and catch a few lobsters out of a machine for 2 bucks. This place is the bestest, They have good performances, and great atmosphere and great waitress service.
Love it! Catch me there on the flip side!
went here for lunch yesterday for the 2 for tuesdays taco plates...gotta say GREAT deal! This may be our tuesday lunch spot. Lunch for my wife and I was $9! I had the chicken tacos..pulled chicken, great sauce. My wife loved the fish tacos. Next time I'm gonna check out their burger, which is also 2 for one on Tuesdays.
Our server, Taylor, was very sweat and gave us great service. I WILL BE BACK!!
2 4 1... that's the "Two for the Price of One" special known as Two for Tuesdays which Hennessey's also promotes with select items on their menu, including the Hamburgers.
If I'm evaluating Hennessey's VS Mickie Finnz's on their specials, I gotta say, I'd go to Mickie Finnz's 8 out of 10 times because their burger is superior overall. Â It is cooked to order, and also comes with french fries. Â If you're looking for a more diverse menu, then Hennessey's might be what you're looking for, and it's a good spot as well.
If you're on a budget, don't order soda (plus, it's bad for ya!) if you want to take full advantage of the deal. Â With a soda, the 2-4-1 deal comes in at about $10-12 per person (depending on which burger you order), so not quite the McDonald's "Dollar Menu" type deal a 2-4-1 sounds like on the surface.
If you're coming out to eat, drink and shop, I'd recommend you get a little bit of exercise and you can find unlimited street parking a few blocks away as well as non-metered 2 hour zones as opposed to the all to convenient (and so easy to get an expensive parking ticket if your meter expires plus the cost of paying for parking) meters out front or the adjacent side streets.
I came here on a sunday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. I was surprised to see that there were still a handful of people drinking and hanging out at the bar. The bartender was very friendly, and I bought a couple drinks - 2 beers and 4 shots came out to about $28. The bartender even gave the birthday girl a shot on the house!
(-2 star) There isn't really anything special about this bar. It's a-ok.
(-2 stars) OMG. They have a lobster claw machine - It's like those claw machines, where you insert money in the machine and try to grab dolls with the machine claw, except you try to catch lobsters. If you catch a lobster, they will cook it for you. I know a lot of people are entertained by this, but I was horrified at how cruel this machine was. When the claw would grab one of the lobsters, the lobster would freak out and start frantically pulling and wiggling to get loose. I could only imagine how frightened these poor lobsters were, being harassed like that.
I made my bf name all the lobsters with me and choose one as his pet, so that he could feel my pain as well - thats the punishment he got for wanting to play the machine with his friends.
Never coming back again. There are more than enough bars around that are better and don't partake in animal cruelty. Might not be a big deal for most people, but there's no legitimate reason for that sort of 'entertainment.'
This really is the kind of restaurant you'd expect that is close to the beach. Â There is an island-type feel to the place and it's different from my usual locations. Â What stuck out to me of course was the claw machine with lobsters, real lobsters! in them. Â It is 2 bucks to play, and I wasn't feeling rich enough to play, but I did see the same guy play it 4 times with no success. Â It was entertaining, albeit a little sad, watching him catch the lobster for a few seconds before it fell off the claw. Â
I had the calamari here, and it is pretty standard. Â Not amazingly good, but satisfactory. Â My stomach was happy. Â Next, was the bowl for about $25 I believe. Â It tasted pretty good, not strong enough though in my opinion. Â Other drinks were average prices (I also ordered a gin and tonic). Â
I came on a Sunday night and overall, there were a good amount of people there. Â I had fun here, it is pretty chill. Â Unfortunately, I am pretty far away from this place so I can't see myself going here much, but I won't easily forget about this place either.
I'm thinking that the best way to fix Mickie Finnz is with a bulldozer. Â Sorry, guys but there is only so much restaurant space in The Village,, and we need better places than this tired hodgepodge of a restaurant. Â I've lived in the area for years and have never been able to figure out what it's supposed to be. Â If you have kids you will likely enjoy their kid's nights specials. Â Went in one night and the screaming kids outnumbered adults. Â All the parents ate, talked and never noticed. Â Everyone else ate and ran. Â Best redeeming quality is that they provide lots of outdoor seating for people waiting for a table at the French restaurant next door.
Review Source:Finnz, psshhh ha. This place blows. Paul Hennessey has done a great job of picking up this awesome beach village and raping the people that live in the area. I expect to pay slightly more considering the environment I choose to carouse, but $9 a Coors Light is absurd. I would pay the extra fee for an import but with such a dismal selection I subside from alcoholism.
On Saturday nights Duh-Duh-Duh DJ Nato pumps up the crowd of about 12 ranging from middle age white folk who took a night off from the kids, the dude who always wears a camo hat and jean shorts and the over aggressive affliction bros that stuck around after the UFC fight to feel better about their big guns and dwindling personalities.
Try the tacos.
Had a great first night @ Mickie Finnz! Yesterday was my birthday so I got a chance to hit up their Friday Night Birthday Special of buy the first drink get the rest of the drinks free from 6-9. Bartender Jackie rocks and makes amazing drinks. Was all stoked for a 90s cover group to come in @9 but an older style Johnny Cash style band took the stage instead. Claw game lobster tank in back in hilarious and awesome. The other birthday girl in my group won a lobster outta the tank right before I called it an evening. Great night, Great Food, Great Drinks, Even better Service. (Though our group did have a bit of a hook up!)
Review Source:Came here on a random night with the cousins for a night of drinks. Got here and the vibe was cool. A bunch of Redondo Beach Locals and what not. They had a cover band playing that night and the singer was really good. So good my cousin recognize the person and it was the former lead singer of Styx. He was really good, played mostly everything the crowd requested, he even played a Journey song. It was a good night to come out because he did that gig last minute. He wasn't even suppose to be out but needed the money I guess.
As for the fishbowls they were all good, just highly suggest you share with someone. You'll be a savage if you can finish a fishbowl by yourself.
Great service and decent food....went here with a few friends....what I found neat was how you could win your own lobster with those mechanical claw thingies.....we almost one two lobsters but those darn things sure love to flail about towards the end ha....
Anyhoo drinks were good and our server was quite accomodating....would love to get another drink here sometime ^_^
overall i thought the food was ok. Â i tried the california burger, fries, fish and chips, and shrimp tacos.
the california burger was pretty good. Â the burger was a good size and the french fries were nice and hot. Â they were sort of like in-n-out french fries but bigger.
the shrimp tacos were ok but the shrimp was a little weird. Â i still think some of my shrimp wasn't cooked. Â maybe i just don't know shrimp that well but i think shrimp should be red/pinkish...and i had a few that were grey. Â i spoke to the waitress who said that they first boil all of their shrimp so that they are cooked and then they grill them. Â either way...some of these still looked raw so beware...
they also had a cool promo on tuesday nights where you can buy one burger and get one free or buy one taco plate and get one free. Â you can even buy one burger and get a taco plate free as well.
the fish and chips were pretty good. Â it came with 3 good sized fish as well as malt vinegar and tartar sauce.
they also have special drinks during happy hour 4-7pm...like pitchers of long island iced tea, mojitos, draft beer, etc.
my only problem was at the end when we had to pay our bill. Â we had a groupon ($10 for $20 worth of food) but they said that it was not valid with any promo. Â So we didn't get the taco plate for free, etc. Â luckily we only ordered 4 items (burger, tacos, 2 fish/chips) so our bill went from what should have been $10 fish/chips X 2 + $9 burger + $7 tacos - $7 tacos (promo) = $29 up to $36 (no promo). Â The groupon only saved us $3.
We considered ordering 6 items (adding 2 more taco plates) and had we done that, the groupon would have cost us more than had we not used the groupon !
i really think that these places should just treat groupon as cash. Â yes i know that their argument is that they are losing money, etc. but sites like groupon should be used as a marketing expense. Â when they place an ad in the newspaper, they don't make any money off of that either right? Â
anyway, overall the food and atmosphere was cool but the groupon not being honored for promos when the place is full of promos every day left a bad taste in my mouth.
Hand cut french fries!
Pretty interesting mix of things on their menu, but their fries are definitely note worthy. I got the fish and chips here and it was quite tasty. Would have liked bigger pieces of fish, but overall enjoyable. The batter stayed perfectly on the fish and the chips were delicious, fresh and hand cut. Â My brother got the half roasted chicken which looked really good, but kind of an odd thing to have for a place like this! Â
I like the lobster tank claw machine they have in the corner, very unique. You can just stick in a couple of dollars and try to win a lobster.
For a place like this, I did find it odd that they have such a limited selection on tap, but they do have bottled beer and a full bar as well.
I came on Friday for lunch and had a nice time here. It was pretty empty for the most part, bathroom was very clean and spacious and the service was very friendly.
Our server told us they have live music or other acts most nights as well as karaoke so it seems like a good place to come if you want some drinks and entertainment in a casual environment.
A-Ok indeed!
This place is really good! Thursdays kids eat for free :D , nice service and food portions were just perfect! I'm giving 4 stars because the tacos were pretty tasteless but you got try the dessert "warm brownie with vanilla ice-cream, marshmallows and chocolate sauce" to die for! but overall this is a really good place.
Review Source:Really? 3 beers on tap? Bud Light, Pacifico and Blue Moon? Thats it?
$21.00 for a pitcher of Import and $15.00 for Domestic? I'm sorry, what are my choices again?!
Some guy with an acoustic guitar in the corner with a construction worker on tamborine? Really? At 7pm'sh? Leave the music in the garage.
Sticky, dirty menus. So lets move on to the food....
Where's all the fish?! The name of the place is MICKIE FINNZ FISH HOUSE & BAR. I saw a Mahi-Mahi sandwich on the menu and maybe 2 other items. Decided on an appitizer of nachos and a beer. Didnt care to try anything else. Too risky and not worth my money. The nachos were NOT appetizing.
CHECK PLEASE.
I will never go back here again.
Food...no way, unless you like your tacos stinkier than a French wh*re on a summer day. Drinks here are fine.....like Feed The KItty band on Tuesday nights (they also play acoustic at HT Grill), nice staff, cheap champagne on Sat & Sun, and sometimes free UFC fights here.......but that's it folks!!!
Review Source:The bartenders and waitresses are the best part of the bar. They're very friendly and they try hard. 5 stars for them. Very generous to the regulars.
People in the dining areas seem to always be having a good time. The scene at the bar definitely changes throughout the night but you can always have a good conversation since the people are pretty chill.
Bunch of TVs for gamedays. Then it's pretty much on surfing, riding, skateboarding, or any other californiaesque/extreme sport for the rest of the night.
Food's a little pricy for my liking but not bad.
That being said, I gave the three stars for the number of beers on tap
-Blue Moon
-Pacifico
-Bud Light
-Sam Adams
They could use a good hef, IPA, stout or a decent North American lager...
They make mean cocktails to make up for it though.
Lots of live music from local cover bands, some decent djs and otherwise very socal altrock music. Sublime is every 10th song or so.
The beach is a 4 min walk away.
Go, get drunk, and have a good time.
I used to be a big fan of Mickie Finnz, but slowly, the place has gone down hill. It started with the demise of their fruit-flavored mojitos, which used to be made with with fresh fruit. When you ordered the raspberry, for example, fresh raspberries were muddled with the mint and it was delicious and fresh. Now, it's just flavored rum.
The real deal-breaker for me happened when my friend and I went for Happy Hour this week ... we were excited for the 2 for 1 cocktails and food specials. However, when we arrived, we learned there are no longer food specials and instead of 2 for 1, it's now select cocktail pitchers for $15.
We weren't happy, but decided to go with a $15 pitcher of (plain) mojitos. When the pitcher arrived, it was small and only enough for each of us to have one drink. I am no math genius, but this was not a deal ... normally, one mojito is $7.50 ... so if two of you order one of the menu your total comes to $15, the same as a "happy hour" pitcher.
At least it's better than ordering a $20 pitcher during non-happy hour, in which case you would be paying $5 more than if you ordered off the menu!
I expect better things from the Hennesseys group!
I used to really like this place. I'm a Redondo Beach local, and it had been a great place for happy hour. We went there Monday to watch the BCS game, eat, and drink. We went there specifically because we knew they had a good happy hour. We got there to find out they no longer had 2-for-1 drinks, but instead pitchers for $15. We ordered a pitcher of Mojitors thinking it would be a large pitcher. When it came, the pitcher only poured 2 drinks. Normally, each mojito is $7.50 normally, so that means we would have been paying the menu price during happy hour, even though it was advertised as a "deal." Even worse, that means when you go there after happy hour, you get to pay $5 more for a pitcher than you would pay for individual drinks. I don't think I will be going back there anytime soon.
Review Source:You gotta checkout their 2-4-1 burgers/tacos all day every Tuesday! Â ...my kids love the burgers if they don't catch a lobster from the Claw Game they installed a while back! Â ...also they have entertainment (Open Mic on Tuesday nights 9pm and Karaoke Wednesday nights 9:30pm...other nights live bands are usually playing like Good Cop, Bad Cop)! Â .....come on down and "Meet me in the Village" :)
Review Source:Actually it's probably 3 1/2 stars, but I'll up it to 4 stars rather than down for this place.
Went on a Wednesday evening around 6:00PM. Very sparse crowd in the beginning although it did start to pick up as I left. A few surfers drinking Coronas, but I was quite impressed overall.
The decor has changed to a surfer atmosphere and they do have satellite TV system and when requesting the the Angels/Red Sox Games the waitresses went out of their way for 10 minutes to finally find it and put it on for our enjoyment. I was with my 17yo Angel fan kid.
I actually had a $16.00 off coupon, but it wasn't necessary due to their regular specials.
The menu has changed and no longer offers those buckets of ribs, shrimp, chicken etc.., but has been simplified to lunch/dinner specials being they are trying to lure in a different crowd. And there were families, older beach people along with assholes like me and those yuppy beach folks. The place has a lot of potential.
Live music every night, being bands, DJ or "Karoake on Wednesday" after 9:00PM. Well hell, at least 5 days of the week I guess you get the real deal.
The food deal we had was incredibly huge in amount. We elected for the Wednesday special 2 for 1 rotisserie 1/2 chicken deal for $11.95. This also came with 3 side orders, black beans and rice counting as 1, macaroni salad and Mickies' cole slaw, all home made and very good. Very good sides.
So for basically $12 we each got a full chicken, tortillas, lettuce and some sort of mixed tomato salsa with sour cream in addition to the previous mentioned home made sides. And of course the chicken, tortillas plus more
You really can't beat a whole chicken, loads of delicious home made sides plus more for the price. My only regret is once they finally learn how to make that chicken right with a proper marinade (I'll give them one) that this place may get packed early and become a Redondo Riviera icon.
This place has so much potential. Not only are the waitresses hot, but very accomodating. For $12 you can easily feed 4 a very good meal.
And to boot they have the "Keg Table", where for $200 domestic or $250 international you can have as many amigos as you want (pic added) drinking during College or NFL games as you wish with full on waitress service. Works out to be $4 per beer with a group of 8-10.
Anyways, give this place a shot and BYW they still offer those 2 for 1 burgers and tacos deals (interchangable) on Tuesdays.
Full bar as an added advantage. Great service and hotties make this place at least a try. After my marinade for the chicken, a must.
the thing to describe this place would be a more grown up version of island's.
i've been here on several occasions, and its never quite full. Â its a nice place to bring a friend or a date and watch the game, or grab a bite to eat. Â i recommend the caribbean steak, the fish and chips, and i love the coleslaw.
they have a few brands of beers here too.
there's a lobster  UFO claw machine near the back, where for $2 a play you can try your luck to catch a moving target.  if you do catch it, they cook it for you. if you spend a bunch and get nothing, i'm sorry.  i bring this one friend who's totally into UFO claw machines and doesnt like lobsters.  i ate all his catches. he liked the challenge.
mickie finnz's also has special events with themes. Â the zombie fest they had last year was interesting.
Its South Redondo...so my nightlife expectations are never very high. Â With that being said, Mickie Finnz is a great place to grab a quick drink or just hang out...but not for a long period of time.
I've never eaten a full meal here, but I will say all the appetizers I ate were good, but then again I had been drinking so my foodie-ometer was off a bit.
Pros:
-price is right
-appetizers aren't bad
-patrons are pretty social, so the enviro is very casual and comfy
We just relocted to CA and a neighbor recommended this place. Â So my husband I went there. Â We were told to sit anywhere and sat outside, then we were told you can't have a beer on the patio. Â So we moved inside. Â Again sit anywhere so we did . . . and we sat and sat and sat. Â After about 15 mins with no one coming to the table . . . we left. Â The place was not even crowded. Â Maybe 4 or 5 tables filled . . on a Friday night. Â That should have been our first clue. Â No going back there again.
Review Source:Interesting place. Hawaiian vibe somewhat. Really high ceilings. Good drinks during happy hour. Really good deals. I had 3 vodka 7's and some chicken tenders for 13 bucks. They are really missing hot wings though....Nice servers, no snobby beach attitudes. Haven't been inside at night. It's a less crowded alternative to Hennesy's which is next door, and a HELL of a lot less noisier!!
Review Source:Mickie Finnz
The only thing you are good for is you don't charge cover on UFC fights
There were so many people there tonight, it was crazy crowded.
Your nachos were actually decent, I give you that as well.
But please... your crab legs and your steak are...
umm.... Â just not that great
May be it's not a good idea that you advertise those crab legs so.... big
I still remember that first time we went, when we ordered those Crab legs were just dry as hell and steak was so chewy that we never finished the thing and we swore we'd never come back... except for UFC fights.... so we did. Just for the fight. It is a great value, comparing to watching the fight at home (cuz you have to order the PPV) for sure.
So there. The only thing this place is good for is for those UFC fights.
Service was awesome, as those servers somehow came through even with all the crazy UFC madness. I remember that one server actually went through under the table to get to where we were, just to check on us to see how we were doing.
Would be nice to add a couple more beer on tap. After all, you are a bar. Having only three beer on tap... I dunno... Is that standard?
Food.... especially those crab legs and steak, you need work. Period.
So I am giving you three stars, two for showing UFC fights for free.
We came here today and I have never been here before. Â We ordered the shrimp bucket for over $15 but it only had 10 med to small shrimp. Â The server was very nice but the food and drinks were just so so.
I guess I am use to the bucket of shrimp at Rajun Cajun. Â It is a bucket of shrimp not a bucket stuffed with paper topped with fries and 5 skewers of shrimp. Â They weren't that great either....I use Cholula to make them taste ok.
We popped in here for lunch Sunday. The food was pretty good - big portions, which really could have been halved and the price brought down (average entree is $10). Service was great as many people have already mentioned. Lots of special nights going on with drink and/or food specials - Taco Tuesdays, Crab and Karaoke on Wed, Rio themed night on Thursday. Plan on coming back and seeing what its like at night.
Review Source:This is another restaurant in Riviera Village that is owned by Hennessey's. Â Yet, the food doesn't stand up. Â It's mediocre at best, and the prices are high for the quality you get.
Like Hennessey's Tavern, they also do a 2 Fer Tuesday. Â Here they offer the choice of tacos or hamburgers. Â The only reason to come here is if you're looking for a healthier option to Hennessey's.
When I went to visit my best friend, who lives out in Redondo Beach, this is where I spent a lot of my time. This place rocks.
The food is great. The drinks (except the mojitos, those were bad, but I'm told they had another bartender that makes them better) were wonderful. They served one in a fishbowl with two straws (got some great pics from that one, lol).
The atmosphere was lovely. They had outdoor seating, which I guess...I mean, it is California. The best part, though were the waitresses. They were so friendly, telling me what was good, where I should go, what I should do, etc. One even offered to hang out with me the next day while my friend was at work! And this is after hanging out in a bar with me for a couple hours. Another gave me free drinks (and French fries) because "I was cute". Now, I'm not sure if she was hitting on me (I didn't get that lesbian vibe, but I didn't get it from Ellen originally either, so perhaps that's not saying much) or not, but call me cute and I'll pretty much love you forever.
I couldn't believe how friendly they all were. So fun! Although there's a giant mermaid on the wall that's a bit creepy, lol.
Hennessey's Mickie Finnz opened in Redondo about a year ago, although yesterday was my first visit.  JayChan and I were there mid-afternoon for a bite of lunch.  My house salad was uneventful, accompanied by  a very tasty creation called 'grilled shrimp cocktail'.  I was unimpressed by Jay's coleslaw......not creamy and somewhat bland.  Luckily for him, I did not also eat his sandwich, so I'll have to let him tell you about it. Â
Service was friendly at Mickie Finnz. Â Sunday is open mic night.
Not new, just new to you.
I'm always up for a trip to the beach even if I'm still recovering from a nasty chest cold. So when Joan suggested we go for a bite I Â jumped right on it. I'm pretty easy when it comes to trying new places and Mickie Finnz looks pretty new to me.
We got a somewhat casual reception when we walked in. Some male voice at the bar said "Hi...anywhere you want." A few minutes later a waitress came buy to see if we were ready to start drinking. I like that, 2pm and it's drinking time at the beach!
We ordered lunch and a couple of cocktails. The Dr. would disagree but a blue margarita is one step towards a cure for the common cold. I really forgot all about being sick.
Joan already reviewed her lunch and my Cole slaw. I had the Memphis style pulled pork sandwich. I inhaled it! The pork was so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. The sandwich normally has slaw on it but I decided it would be better on the side. The only odd thing about it was the chips and salsa they serve with it. I think beans or fries would have been a better choice. The slaw was a little watery but very sweet. I did pile some slaw on the second half of the sandwich and can say that it works pretty well with the tangy BBQ sauce. I swiped one of Joan's yummy Cajun style grilled shrimps. I'd order that next time.
Our server was extremely pleasant and very good about keeping the old folks well watered! Extra points for good service.
I'd like to go back for the open mic night!
