Oceanfront dining, shopping and entertainment sounds supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, but it's just not that awesome at Redondo Beach.
The vibe is more rundown than anything. Similar to Lady Gaga, "slightly dirty" is the best adjective. Potential is there, but King Harbor and the Pier are in need of another makeover ... also like Lady Gaga.
* Parking is easy in the Parking Structure @ $1.50/hour in the summer
* Some merchants validate for a slight discount.
* There is also an outside $2/hour parking lot at the Marina next to the Pier
* Best Food (but not cleanest): Pacific Fish Center, Redondo Beach Crab House
* Ok Bars (but not stellar): divey Naja's or El Torito (for its long Happy Hour)
* Lot's of fishing from the concrete pier. I'm not sure I'd eat anything from that water.
* It's cooler by the water (of course); bring a jacket or hoodie
* In the Summer, the pier hosts FREE concerts on Thursday & Saturday evenings
* The 2013 schedule is online. I didn't recognize any of the cover or local bands
* The Pier has appeared in some movies and TV shows (like the O.C.).
There are lots of neighboring cities that offer similar experiences as the Redondo Beach Pier. Compared to those, this pier is a-ok, but not among the cleanest or nicest spots for a romantic or family evening.
