I hadn't been to Millie's in about a year. Â My wife and I used to frequent Millie's and I've held several work functions here for large groups (and those have always been pretty well managed and provided for).
My past experience was for my Wife's birthday........about a week before this writing.
We had a group of 8. Â Were planning on eating and making merry on a very nice evening. Â The server we had was smug-not very helpful and made a few mistakes that set the tone for the night.
I should preface this by saying that Millies is under construction and they are remodeling so it looks a bit out of sorts. Â
6 of our group ordered the Prime Rib-which my wife and I have a fond kindiling for really good Prime Rib. Â It was $18 for a small cut, but typically that's plenty for me. Â The Prime Rib was like a piece of Roast Beef that was well done.
I found it odd that (a) they don't ask you what temperature you want it at-well, medium well, rare, etc.....so that should've thrown me a flare (b) the server never asked if we liked the food or if it was cooked properly. Â It was disappointing.
One of our guests ordered the Mahi Mahi and said it was okay. Â I think all of our group were underwhelmed with the food.
We did stay for many drinks.......although, one of the chocolate Martini's was rimmed with a lime. Â And when we brought it to the Server's attention, he said "a lime?.....well, I was the one that made that drink". Â He never offered her another beverage or to redo it properly. Â He did recognize that it was incorrect. Â Poor service for a larger group with a guarantee'd rake of 18% (and it's typically more if the service is good from us).
Top this off with the bar running out of Budweiser.........a restaurant, "with a bar"-running out of Budweiser. Â I have more Budweiser in my fridge at home than a bar? Â I've only seen this in cases where they stop paying the distributor, so this probably doesn't bode well for Millie's.
It was disappointing. Â We probably won't go back to Millies for quite a while. Â There must be some strange things at the circled K for them to be this out of whack.
Let me preface this review that I have been to Mille's Cafe many times for high school and college formals. But I guess there was a cloud of excitement or just plain lack of experience that somehow made me miss out realizing how awful this place really is.
We went there on a quiet Saturday afternoon and were two of the 4 guests there. That did not prevent the waiter to take 10 minutes to get us seated in an empty restaurant.
We ordered the Queso Con Chips, which on the menu was advertised as a cheese dip that comes with warm chips and salsa. However, anyone in their right mind would not describe the watery crap and the refried chips that were served to us as dip and warm, respectively. Oh, and the waiter forgot to include the salsa in this glorious setup. Not that you're missing our on a great salsa. This one clearly came from a jar in a grocery store.
The wonderful waiter then disappeared for 15 minutes without taking our entree order. Once he showed up again, we ordered the Pasta Primavera and added a house salad.
The pasta (and by that I mean the noodles) was the only good part of the whole meal. But then it's pretty difficult to mess up something that is boiled and then smothered in Alfredo sauce. What really surprised me what the chicken. One would think a restaurant like Mille's would use real chicken, not the pressed crap. But here again, I was proven wrong. What was served as "chicken" is a pressed conglomerate of various bird parts.
The final insult came when the clueless waiter charged us for a full salad instead of an add on with lunch, like we asked. When I pointed  this out, he didn't even apologize. He simply adjusted the bill and brought it back.
So the moral of the story is: save your time and money and go somewhere else. I would recommend the Aviary across the street because no matter how slow or bad the service is, the food is always incredible.
I've been here twice (once on a date and the other for my graduation party). The service is really pleasant and everyone was extremely helpful for my party, where I rented out the back room and my family decorated the hell out of it to celebrate with 15 people. The waiters were attentive and food came out quickly and, surprisingly, correct for each person. Wait--except my little cousin. They forgot to put his pizza order in, though it's understandable considering we had a big party and they had a full restaurant taboot. They also made a special drink in my honor, which was very tasty. The decor is also pretty nice; just the right combination of dark and light to make it both a good lunch and dinner spot.
It is a tad expensive though, and the food is just OK. I was never impressed with any of their meals, but I also wasn't disappointed. It's not a place I'd want to visit again and again, mainly because I think it's overpriced. Regardless, it's one of the only good spots to host a small reception downtown because it has several rooms to rent out regularly. So, Mille's is A-OK for me.
I cone here every time I visit Springfield. My dad loves their Italian Nachos - which are great. Terribly slow service and there was literally one other couple in the restaurant. Unfortunately the Italian Nachos did not come with the sauce (Alfredo I think) that it usually does and therefore suffered. We ordered a chicken caeser salad with dressing on the side. The lettuce was not particularly cold, the dressing was not particularly flavorful and it was all over the salad rather than being on the side. My daughter ordered a blackened chicken quesadilla - hold the mushrooms and guess what? She ended up picking mushrooms off the quesadilla... bewteen all that and the unbelievably slow service - and we were one of two tables occupied in the middle of the day - I was unfortunately very disappointed.
Review Source:We love Mille's so much, we always take friends and family when they are in town. Â Had dinner there last night and mu smothered steak was awesome! Always fun, drinks are great and the atmosphere is terrific. Â We also favor their other flagship restaurant Coyote's Adobe and eat there every sunday for breakfast. Â Bon apetit!
Review Source:Mille's is charming, a nice stop
On the way to downtown Springfield. It's cozy, our waiter was super-sweet and the food was good ad simple. I had a steak and cheese sandwich with their garlic mashed potatoes, my husband had the french-dip style grilled steak sandwich, and my mom had the homemade quiche. I tried everything and it was all good.
We ordered from Quickdine (delivery service). Â The thin rib-eye had almost no flavor, the tenderloin was overcooked, the portabella mushroom was burned so badly it was basically just flakes of charred soot. Â The rice which came in place of the potatoes I ordered was basically minute-rice... Plain. Â It is disheartening to see another local restaurant lowering their standards below what I will put up with. Â I can see it failing much the way several others have in the area. Â I can't recommend this to anyone.
Review Source:I've been twice for lunch and for that, Mille's was excellent. Everything tasted very fresh on both visits and at lunch, the prices were good. Â I am not so sure if the atmosphere is worth the downtown trek for dinner however. Â For me it would depend on the wait. Â I did not mind walking from the parking lot behind the Moxie/Farmer's Gastropub; further would have been fine. Â Don't expect to park in front of the door at Mille's. Â The first time I went, the (male) server was new and enthusiastic but on my second visit we had a less than stellar female server. Â Overall this place is very satisfactory at lunch, I will come back to edit if I try Mille's for dinner.
Review Source:Eh. I had high hopes for Millie's...I really did. Reviews were good, it's a popular fun spot downtown, and I had a bunch of good friends together on a beautiful night. However, after a $35 tab for just me for dinner, I left disappointed.
The waitress seemed so disconnected--I don't know if she wasn't used to handling a large group or what....but a table of 11 should not have been difficult. She didn't add an automatic gratuity into our bill, though...which was probably to her downfall. Service was slooow and drinks were even slower. We were sequestered in their meeting room, which is next to the wine locker and on the way to the bathroom.
Two of the girls ordered lettuce wraps, which was served with a big plate of pretty, fresh lettuce...that had not been washed and was covered in grit and dirt. Â Not very appetizing, but the manager brought out fresh plates of lettuce and apologized. Â I ordered the sun dried tomato penne with fresh 'seasonal vegetables'...which were bell peppers and zucchini--certainly not 'in season' in early April. Either way, it was bland and greasy. I did enjoy my potato trio appetizer, which was waffle fries, sweet potato chips, and salt and vinegar fries (covered in black sesame seeds and not as good as the ones at Touch). Â
The food sounds fancy and trendy, with lots of veggies and fun sauces....but doesn't live up to the description on the menu. Â This place might be fun for a date or drinks and appetizers out on the patio, but don't plan on coming here for a large group celebration.
Millie's is one of a handful of casual restaurants in the downtown area. Prices are great and since I'm from out of state, I always appreciate someplace that serves Boulevard Wheat on tap. And I also appreciate local charm. Millie fit the bill for both.
I ordered off the winter budget menu and had a maple and pear pork chop with a side of couscous. Really good on a cold Springfield night. I started it with a house salad (and a Boulevard Wheat!). My colleague who I was travelling with had the Downtown Chicken sandwich.
I was impressed with our entire experience. Both the food and service were good and our bill was less than $25 for the both of us.
TIP: Parking can be challenging. There is a small lot next to the restaurant but there are a limited number of spaces.
Recommended.
Great casual dining spot downtown. Â Their menu is very diverse with an option for every pallet. Â Usually get the prime rib sandwich for lunch. Â It is literally a slab of prime rib on a bun. Â Not just a skimpy slice like others give you. Â
Has the family atmosphere and is usually packed before must MSU home sporting events.  Only complaints are parking because your options are a tiny lot or on-street which if busy can lead to a decent walk.  Also, wait time (no to sit) but for your order takes forever.  I can tolerate both the the nit picky can find these frustrating.
All in all this is a nice local spot downtown which allows you to sample both the local flair and experience Springfield downtown.  Certainly worth your business.
I went to a surprise birthday there. The back room is nice and private (but you are kind of "locked" in since the hallway is used for kitchen service as well...weird layout since it's an old building I guess). GREAT food. We had fried ravioli, and quesadilla I think. Good salads too. Friendly and classy staff too.
Review Source:Hark, I say there, where can I go to for something a little different. Â I want something I haven't had before. Â A great way to dine in little ole Springfield. Â Walk on down to Mille's Cafe. Â
I will have to agree with Kristy this is what "they" meant when they invented the word casual dining.  A hot spot for all of he downtown socialites this little cafe with a big attitude is great for everyone.  There are three ways to dine in this establishment; in the side room for big groups, at the bar, in the main room great for a casual date, or on the patio.  Oh I guess that's for ways to dine, even better. Â
Everything there is great from pasta to prime rib sandwich, two of my particular favorites.  Once you're done with dinner you can take a walk to any number of other establishments in downtown to continue the rest of your evening.
Casual dining at it's best! Â Great downtown location - offers patio seating. Â Love the atmosphere - great for a date, business lunch or dinner with friends! Â Multiple banquet rooms and a customizable menu make Mille's a great place to hold events! Â Absolutely love the Southwest Chicken Rolls and Spinach Artichoke Dip - great martini and wine list too!
