I've heard good things from coworkers, so I decided to give Pappo's a shot for lunch today. Â I don't know why, but I was surprised that the atmosphere was so nice. Â You could easily sit down and have a casual dinner date in here.
The two employees were very friendly when I entered, and they weren't busy yet. Â I ordered an 8" thin crust Canadian bacon pizza to go. Â They estimated it'd take them 15 minutes or so, so I wandered down the street to a shop and it was ready when I came back.
On the short walk back to my office, I could smell my pizza... and it smelled GOOD. When I opened the box, it was a very pretty pie; I took my first bite, and I knew I'd found something great. Â They had found a perfect balance between meat and cheese and thin crust. Â It wasn't too crunchy or chewy, but just right. Â The oregano on top made the whole pizza perfection.
I hope this wasn't a fluke. Â I suspect this is a five-star joint -- but I've only had one small pizza to go, so I haven't had a chance to soak up the service or order a beer. Â I'm looking forward to trying it again!
Some friends and I decided to try out Pappo's Pizzeria and we were better people for it. Â It did take a while to get drinks and food to our table, but I chalk it up to a busy night and it was graduation weekend. Â Yikes. Â Not the best time to be downtown. Â Anyway, we all ordered different personal pizzas so we could mooch off each other.
Two of our favorites were from the specialty pizzas section: Chicken Bacon Cheddar and the "Spicy" Chicken Cholula. Â Man are these some great pizzas. Â Crust is great, not soggy, and the amount of toppings is just right. Â They don't skimp. Â
I can't wait to go back and try a few others. Â Well done, Pappo's!
