Like  a number of other reviewers, I've been searching in vain for a decent Chinese delivery spot.  Tried Ming Choy via Grub Hub tonite and was pleased.  This is the first such place I'd give better than 2 stars.  Both the soups (wonton and hot and sour) were good.  Orange chicken was fine; we enjoyed the whole peppers being included.  Next time I might ask them to go lighter on the sauce; the large order was more than plenty for two.  The combo fried rice was as tasty as any takeout fried rice I've eaten; a small order was plenty to go with our entree, which also came with white rice.  Delivery was quicker than promised.
Review Source:My coworker and I decided to order from this place in hopes of getting great food. Our other coworker ordered from this place the previous day and loved it.
We ordered on-line because it seemed to be easier, which it was everything was a simple click away.
I ordered the General Tso Chicken, which is a dish I am familiar with at many Chinese restaurants. I love the fact its fried hard & the sweet flavor. But what I got was soggy chicken and sweet/sour flavor.
In the notes section of the on-line form, I asked for fried rice instead of white rice for both orders. Instead I received 1 white rice and 1 burnt rice. It was past fried... The burnt flavor could be tasted in every bite.
This was the first time I couldn't finish my meal because of the quality of food. I will never order from them again.
Pros - Comes incredibly quick. Efficient online ordering. Quickly followed up with a credit card discrepancy. Also, the Mongolian Beef was delicious.
Cons -
1) Pork Dumplings: outside looked incredible, meat was a little sketch, and possibly undercooked (not sure how this happens with a deep fry, but then again, I am not a scientist).
2) Crab Rangoon: I don't know what was inside, but again, from a distance they looked incredible (fool me once...).
3) Beef Lo Mein: the noodles were ramen...enough said.
I have now had this place a handful of times, and while it is not perfect, I have yet to find a better place for the price. Â The garlic chicken is great and spicy (which i prefer). Â Also, I recently tried the shrimp lo mein and was pleasently surprised at the quality of shrimp and noodles. Â Orders usually arrive in a timely fashion and ordering online is extremely easy.
Again, although not perfect, it is a great fix for a chinese food craving.
Living in West Loop, I am still sad that Dee's no longer delivers to my home. Â That said, I needed a Chinese food place to satisfy my monthly crave. Â That delivers. Â I started ordering from here about a year ago. Â My neighbors said it was a solid choice for a place with a convenient location. Â I usually order the Ginger Chicken or Ginger Beef. Â As always, it was spicy without an overpowering garlic taste. Â Three stars there. Â However, in the rice, I just found a mangled thread of metal (perhaps something that was once a staple?). Â They lose a star for poor QC. Â Now I have to wonder about what else ends up in the food. Â I am going to look for a different Chinese food place.
Review Source:So... I grew up in Japan. I will always have a preference for Japanese food. That will never change. So my exposure to Chinese food was limited, to say the least. When I started to date my current squeeze years ago, Chinese food started making a regular appearance in my food repertoire This place is the go to Chinese take out for my man. Â I enjoy this joint. I dabble from entree to entree, I haven't been disappointed. In fact, my boyfriend just ordered from them now, and i'm starving!
Review Source:I think it's hard to find a good take-out "Chinese" place. Â I have been ordering from the same place in my hometown for years, hard to venture away from it but when you crave it you have to go for it. Â Anyways, last night we wanted Chinese takeout, went to Yelp for the answer and was still kind of scared but SUCCESS! Â Ming Choy was good and the price was reasonable. Â They said 40 minutes for delivery, it was 40 minutes and darn good. Â We had the orange chicken which its sad to say but the only orange chicken I usually like is from Panda Express but I loved it - orange chicken with broccoli, hmmm hmmm. Â And Hunan chicken and shrimp fried rice - all really good. Â Next time I would order smalls, large is a lot of food. Â
I'd order again from it.
In my college years, I had Chinese food at least three times per week. I've had great Chinese food and I've had REALLY BAD Chinese food. I haven't eaten Chinese food since those days, but was not feeling so great and had the strangest craving for it. Ming Choy had gotten some good reviews on Yelp, so I made the call! Unfortunately, it was a mega fail.
I tried the Pot Stickers and Sesame Chicken. I ate one pot sticker and threw the rest out. It was seared on one side, and the texture of the outside was bread-ey. Like a steamed Chinese bun with bland filling. Pot stickers should not taste like steamed Chinese buns. Fail.
The Sesame Chicken was barely edible. It was SWIMMING in the pool of sauce. There were not enough sesame seeds and each piece was 85% breading and 15% chicken. So it was basically eating deep fried breading in a pool of sauce. The vegetables were severely overcooked too. Double Fail.
I had a positively horrible experience and will never order from Ming Choy again.
We live in River North, and have been searching for awhile for a decent Chinese delivery place where you are not biting into unrecognizable fatty meat chunks with every other bite, wondering which part of the animal your meat came from. Â Ming Choy has ended our search! This is our new go-to place. Large portions, fast delivery, good meat quality, great flavors. We like our Chinese food spicy and they did not disappoint...I could not feel a portion of my lips by the end of my meal! Â I had the Orange Chicken and it was delicious...the fiance ate the General Tso's...also liked it. Â And the order taker was very courteous and wasn't rushing me off the line. Â 'nuff said.
Review Source:I am a new fan of Ming Choy. Â After ordering from countless Chinese places I could never really find good and fast Chinese. I have ordered a handful of times and I am impressed so I wanted to make sure I got on here and gave them a good review because I defiantly think they are better than the current ranking of three.
Review Source:Love Ming Choy delivery! Â They have a good Chinese menu, also offer pizza and chicken and sandwiches- and they deliver them all within about 40 minutes.
The b'friend always gets egg fu yung which he loves, shrimp fried rice. Â I used to always get the Sesame Chicken or General Tso's Chicken, but I'm hooked on their Philly Steak Sandwiches now. Go figure- Philly Steak from Ming Choy's. Â It's good- what can I say. Â The portions are huge too.
They're also some of the friendliest order takers in the city!
This is the place we call "cheap Chinese" when ordering lunch at the office. The portions are HUGE and very inexpensive. The "small" serving size is enough for two meals, and I eat a lot.
I pay an extra buck or so to add tofu to my (vegan) veggie lo mein, and they must put in a whole pound of juicy, flavourfully cooked tofu. Ask for the dish to be spicy, and it will be filled with small red chiles. Those add a lot of kick to the dish, but I usually don't eat the chiles themselves. They'll also give you containers of hot chile sauce, but those are not necessary.
The vegetables in the lo mein tend to be a little overcooked, but overall, it's still satisfying.
I'm not sure what to think about pizza or gyros from a Chinese place... But I wouldn't order those anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.
Delivery doesn't have the best service. The delivery man won't actually come inside to the delivery area. You have to meet him outside. But it usually comes within a reasonable amount of time.
I'm with everyone else that has reviewed Ming Choy---solid Chinese food, not great, not awful. Â I've only ordered the lo mein and egg rolls and it always is hot, a lot of food (even when you order the small portions), and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Plus, it's open fairly late, so you can order late night munchies! Â Oh, and the woman on the phone is always really nice, which makes life a lot easier for a person who is as picky as I am!
Review Source:To put it simply, it's been hard to find good Chinese delivery here in Chicago (or at least a place that'll deliver to my address). So, I decided to try Ming Choy out. Success!
I've never actually eaten at the restaurant, so I can only review the delivery. The food is good; my boyfriend and I are addicted to their crispy beef wontons. The delivery is always on time, and the food is always piping hot. On top of if, there is a ton of food for the price! Their customer service is great as well...when I get put on hold, even for just a minute, they give me egg rolls to make up for it.
All in all, it's not high quality gourmet food, just Chinese delivery. But as far as I've seen, this is the best out there.
