Undoubtably the best coffee shop in northeast Lincoln (though if you're willing to drive a bit longer, there are a few better places downtown on P street). It's locally-owned, there are plenty of tables, they roast their own beans, there is free wifi, the sandwiches and espresso drinks are pretty good (see Matthew P's comments about drip coffee), and the staff is friendly. It's a great place to meet with old friends over holiday break, sit at the bar and sip a scotch, or to try to get some homework done (but write Yelp reviews instead). Drawbacks include somewhat restrictive hours, and sometimes painful musical acts on Friday and Saturday nights.
Review Source:I'm not a specialty coffee aficionado, so I have nothing to say about the high end options, but for a pleasant place to get a cup, talk or use the WiFi, it's a great choice. Â I wouldn't make it a lunch destination, but when I want to stay online writing, the food is good enough to stay put.
Review Source:Update. Â Changed Carafes and now coffee is always hot and best tasting in town. Also started asking for and calling out names when food is done. Â More personal and easier to hear them shout out when it your own name. Sandwiches as excellent as ever. Wow thanks for being responsive to Yelp reveiws. Â Love the sandwiches Pesto Avo melt YUM! Â Turk is always fantastic, Now I just have to figure out how to enter the nutritional data or estimates into my fitness partner app so I can eat there during my diet. Â Certainly some acceptable choices on the menu. Did I mention one bagel sandwich feed two normal appetites. Great for sharing or as a next meal leftover.
Review Source:As other reviewers have stated, the service and food are a mixed bag. I enjoy going, as my experiences have been, for the most part, good. The service is pretty slow sometimes, but I haven't found them rude. I love their Hummus & Tomato Sandwich on a sesame bagel (order it closed if you're getting it to go so they wrap it up instead of just putting it in a basket, where it cools too quickly), and friends and family say other options are good. They're espresso drinks are also well done. Their pastries/desserts are decent, but they've been a bit stale before. The atmosphere is quaint, but it can get noisy if you go at the wrong time. Overall, MoJava is a good place for a reasonably-priced sandwich and coffee.
Review Source:Food is okay. Â Coffee is good. Â Cookies are gigantic. Â Service is decidedly mixed. Â However, they are a cute neighborhood place with a dedicated group of regulars. Â I like supporting a local business, not Starbucks store number 5 zillion. Â I agree that I wouldn't cross town for it, but it's a good option if you are already in NE Lincoln.
Review Source:I have now been there twice, but not sure why. Â It is a quaint environment, which is the only plus. Â Sandwich options are limited, and when they are done with your order, they put it on the counter. Â Both times I have not heard them announce that it was ready (if they do?), so I guess you have to watch constantly. Â Since they have canned soda, they were out of all diet, which is all I drink. Â Menu options of the day were confusing as well, and the they are not overly helpful in figuring it out. Â So:
Pros: Quaint environment
Cons: Food options are limited, and thus only so so.
Inventory is unreliable
Service is non-existant
Next time I will go somewhere else.
The coffee is good, as long as it is hot. Twice I have ordered drip coffee which has come out of their air-compression carafes lukewarm. Â I would recommend something espresso based, because that's really their gem. Avoid the drip coffee altogether. Â Seems that there are pastries and food too, however I haven't sampled any of that. Â I was with a friend who ordered a breakfast sandwich of some sort once though, she said it was "just fine." Â
I wanted to love this establishment; the space is cute and comfortable.  The employees are polite, unless you try to order a drink by something other than the novelty name they have assigned it, then they will correct you. (Why call it an Electric Eel?  Everywhere else in the world, with the exception of the other coffee shop in Lincoln which calls it something  as equally ridiculous, refers to it as a Red Eye.  Check Wikipedia if you don't believe me).  However, honestly the clientele is what keeps me away. I can't tell if its an AA group or just some loud locals, but more than once I have attempted to do homework at this establishment and have been unable to tune out these particular regulars being loud and saying some rather ignorant, hard to ignore things. Additionally, I am not even going to describe my one experience with "live music" at this venue.
If you live in the neighborhood, I do recommend it. Â If you don't I wouldn't go out of my way to visit.
I've been here a couple times during a lunch break. Â They have a nice patio out back, & yummy homemade scones, muffins, & sandwiches. Â It's also in a really cute area near the NE Wesleyan campus.
I am not a coffee drinker, but it should be noted that I was introduced to this place by coffee drinkers.  I think they roast their own beans  - it's supposedly very good.
My only complaint - both times I ordered a bagel sandwich, I received it SCALDING hot and burned the crap out of my mouth. Â Well, at least you won't get a cold meal...
