Dined here about 4 times now and each time the experience is improved. Â We enjoyed dinner at a high-top table near the bar last night. Â The early bird special is a fantastic deal. Â We enjoyed everything we ordered. Â The jalapeno wedge is still a favorite and the vegetable tostadas were so good!! Â Our entrees were delayed and came out quite late, but mistakes happen and our server gave us a complimentary round of drinks. Â These truly are some of the nicest people working here! Â We are already planning on going back for Grandma's fish and chips special on Fridays.
Review Source:My girlfriend and I were really excited about MorseL's opening even through its multi-month delayed opening. We had pretty high expectations for our first visit but were somewhat disappointed. Even though on our first visit (opening night) the restaurant was very busy it felt like it was about 25% full. That was our very first impression - this place is way too big. The menu is ok. Nothing I haven't had somewhere else, but we were a little surprised at the pricing. We are all for elevated dining experiences, but the food wasn't worth it. They had some solid concepts, but the execution fell short. I don't want to be on of those Yelp people who goes on and on, but we have given this place 5 chances (brunch, lunch and dinner) and keep having the same type of experiences. The staff is great, but the ambience is off and the music doesn't create a vibe. I think this place would be great for families and really large parties who are looking to stay in the neighborhood, but they just aren't getting what they are going for.
Review Source:We went here recently on a Thursday for all you can eat mussels. The food was perfectly cooked and delicious and the drink I had was quite strong.
It is hard to find a restaurant outside of the loop or the north suburbs that serves food with complex flavors or a gourmet feel. MorseL definitely exceeded my expectations about a restaurant located in Rogers Park. I felt very comfortable and loved the decor, and I really enjoyed the food. I have been meaning to come back for weekend brunch to try to the endless bloody marys and mimosas, and to try the chicken roast.
I understand why some people did not give as great of reviews as I did, but the reality is MorseL is great if you are looking for a NICE dinner. If you are expecting to spend about $10 a person and have a simple burger for dinner this is not the place for you. If you would like to try something you can't get on every corner of the city with a unique cocktail or beer, it is.
I really do hope more people give MorseL a try, I definitely enjoyed my experience!
