Napper Tandy's is a local spot, so if that is what you are looking for that is what you will find. Â For a local watering hole with food I would give this place more than 3 stars IF I have not had this experiences there after already having my doubts. Â
1st time I was there for a surprise retirement party. The manager blew the surprise by leaving a voice mail on the wife's phone. duh..... Â Although, this did not directly effect me it did make for a not so great first impression. The food was great and the service was friendly. We did have some temperature issues between the A/C and the open windows..... bring an easy on or off extra shirt/jacket.....
2nd time is borderline comical if you have ever worked in a restaurant. Â Yet, as I say comical I also feel it shows a HUGE lack in training and care of proper service. Â I ordered the pasta dish in a white wine sauce with chicken, mushrooms, & buffalo Mozzarella..... The dish is named NAPPER SOMETHING or TANDY'S SOMETHING... one might believe that this could be a "signature dish" Â .... well, I can say it is NOT or training is so bad that someone needs to be spoken to because, wait for it...... The dish came out with Buffalo Sauce on it ...... YES, the cook must not have ever been taught what buffalo mozzarella is and thought he should add buffalo sauce....... buffalo sauce & white wine sauce together = fail!
even better or just as bad..... the bartender served it to me this way... as a server shouldn't he have noticed the orange sauce all over the plate that didn't belong there? So, after I ate the WHOLE meal I did bring it to the bartenders attention. He did say, sorry and did go speak to the kitchen. Â I do not expect or want a free meal but, I did expect a manager to come over and say he was informed of the mistake and they would address this so in the future my food would come out correct. Â I also ate the whole thing vs. sending it back because i had just spent 12 hours moving furniture & didn't want to wait for a re-fire while she ate. Â I was so hungry anything was better than nothing. Â
So, today while lying on the beach I keep thinking of this and realize I should take the extra step to let someone "in-charge" know what went on because it does scream of a huge lack of training and follow through. I called when I got home and spoke to a very nice assistant manager she assures me that this will be addressed on the many levels that it needs to be. Â
On the positive side, My friends food looked phenomenal and was enough for her dinner and today's lunch! She ordered shepherds pie :) The beer is cold and the building has windows that open to let in the nice late night summer air. Â The guy next to us had pizza that looked very tasty too. Â I will absolutely go again. Â I will probably even order the same dish, even if to just see if they got it right. ;)
Again, let me stress that the people there are friendly and the food is better than pub food. (when prepared correctly) The place seems clean..... I honestly, don't ask for much more.
dont go unless ur  either 1. a townie  2. to just sit at the bar to drink or 3. dont want any service,  spent the better part of 5mins after entering to still get not even one person to hand us a menu or even ask if we needed any thing, just got up and left, dont waist ur time its a F***ing joke
Review Source:Good food, good people, good atmosphere. Â Carries the typical bar food, but also has tasty entrees. Â I like that there are two separate sides, one is more sports bar ambiance, the other more relaxing and upscale. Â Good spot for an after work drink, and to eat on a Friday or Saturday night. Â If you work on Washington St. they were also doing some good $5 lunch specials.
Review Source:Went to Napper Tandy's last night for a birthday celebration.  We were a party of 13, and were lucky enough to find two tables next to each other on the karaoke side.  Apps were great, and drinks were good.  Unfortunately, the karaoke dj didn't seem to have a great system of getting people up on stage.  I was told 3 different times that I had "only 3 more people" ahead of me, and only finally got to get up there when I brought  to his attention the fact that he'd said that 3 times over the past hour.  Likewise, other members of our party waited upwards of two hours to sing one song.  And we were there at the very beginning of the night, so it's not like there should have been that many people ahead of us.  The dj insisted on playing a dance song in between every single singer, which just increased the wait time.  I'm all for dancing and having fun, and taking a break from the karaoke, but when you have that many people waiting, it just seems kind of unnecessary to do it in between every single song. Â
Our waitress started out good, but the service declined as the night wore on. Â People who wanted separate checks were told to get their drinks from the bar because she "didn't have time" to do that. Â I waited tables for a long time, I realize that it can be a pain to have separate checks, but I can't imagine ever telling a customer that I "didn't have time" to wait on them. Â At the end of the night we had two credit cards and some cash for the bill, and we wrote everything out for her on the check itself, so that it should have been a relatively easy transaction. Â Her exact response; "Are you serious?" Â with a definite attitude. Â I'm sorry, that's just ridiculous. Â Most people nowadays don't carry cash, and it's a pretty frequent occurrence that you have more than one credit card to deal with. Â It's not like we handed her 5 cards, just 2. Â Although the food was good,(the steak and cheese eggrolls are awesome), the over-all experience was pretty mediocre. Â I don't think we'll be back.
HELLS YES.
One word - Karaoke on Saturdays.
I know that only the most courageous of ballers travel out to Norwood for the most insane night life south of the 93-95 split. Â If one of said ballers has not yet frequented Napper Tandy's on a Saturday night, he hasn't seen the pinnacle of nightlife south of the Bean.
I'm a Karaoke mark, so this place gets super plus bonus points for having a fun karaoke setup. Â Great variety of songs (have you ever heard the Humpty Dance, Sabotage and Weird Al's Amish Paradise all in one night EVER?), and the place manages to be JUST CROWDED enough for it to be a party atmosphere, but you're not getting elbowed every 5 seconds.
The  space is cozy and is divided into 2 separate bars that almost mirror each other.  You don't like karaoke?  Fine.  Head over to the other side and watch the B's.  Or the C's.  Or the H's...
What kept me from 5 stars was some of the wait staff just seemed too "green".... Â I know they're trying to give good service, but asking if I want a drink every 5 seconds while I have a beer in front of me can get tiring. Â Also, they serve "Reverse Nachos": Â Cheese on the bottom of the plate, chips over the cheese. Â Oops...
Whatever, i do it for the Karaoke. Â I'll come back. Â I smell a Karaoke list coming on...
Napper Tandy's is one of the first bars I've been to in Norwood and it's alright. I've been there on a few occasions, never really for food, and I feel like its probably more of a place to go to with a group of 4 or more friends. It's got a very townie feel to it, which sometimes is inviting, sometimes not.
Nothing was really that notable about the place really, I've gone to other bars where the bar staff is way more engaged in whats going on around them, but the good thing is that its not really a trashy place. I drove by the other day and it looked like they may have made some renovations to the layout of how the dining room / bar area is set up.
One bad thing was trying to hang out on the patio, which they close pretty early and kind of get in your face about it.
I may stop by again, but I'm not really dying to go there.
After returning to Napper's for an impromptu vacation-planning session (which I have found goes over MUCH easier whilst under the influence), I have decided that I may have been too quick to judge this fair pub. My friend and I made a beeline for the outdoor patio, snagged a table, and spread out our itineraries, maps, and activity options (not something all bars encourage/permit - - - thank you, Napper's!). Our chipper waitress was quick to come over and, before you could say 'Carry-on Baggage Restrictions', our first round had been delivered! In addition to notations regarding our upcoming adventure - I jotted down a few in regards to our current surroundings:
*Hung out on the patio (such an asset for a small place in the 'burbs) for the sunset. Most tables are under the shade of umbrella's for when the sun is overhead, and there is lighting for when the moon takes its place.
*Our waitress was all smiles and also incredibly helpful - she kept all of the playgoer's pleased with full pints and a few laughs.
*Hand-cut fries = amazing! I just couldn't help myself - my fingers kept returning to the basket again, and again, and again...so good. They also came out of the kitchen CRAZY fast! Our neighbors ordered a plate of nachos: holy-crap....HUGE! Note to self: order this next time.
*Blueberry ale was entertaining (little blueberries bobbing around like a lava lamp never fails to bring a smile to my face); this was my friend's pint-of-choice. My order: the Black Velvet (a pint of Guinness-and-Cider - - - yum) and was I quite pleased that it came pre-poured (last time I received a pint of Guinness and a bottle of Magners - I prefer to keep my craftsmanship where it belongs and not to dabble in even mild mixology). Perfect choices for a summer's night outside.
Conclusion: really glad I returned (and even more pleased that I could get some work accomplished while visiting). I had been contacted by the manager whom had taken my previous review to heart. He said that a few adjustments had been made and that he hoped that I would return soon (I'm glad I did - it was great to see a happy, team-oriented staff).
Check out this little pub if you're in Norwood (get the nachos and let me know how they are!!!).
I had to try this place. We went with a group and had drinks and appetizers. Very good food. Someone ordered dessert; so we all shared it also. The atmosphere is OK, and the bar was full of loud townies who had too many drinks. (This is my hometown, and I didn't know anybody there.) Â I didn't even check the menu because others did the appetizer orders. I will try it again.
It is a typical pub with dark wood, Irish pictures, etc. An Irish co-worker says it is one of her favorite places. There is plenty of free parking in the town lot across the street.
I came to Norwood from St. John's, Newfoundland, about 14 years ago. In St. John's we had several excellent English and Irish pubs, serving nicely chilled Smithwicks and Guinness, and had excellent pub food.
Not until Napper Tandy's opened in Norwood Center have I found a place to rival those beloved establishments.
While the place looks fairly simple, and the menu small, everything on the menu is excellent. Don't believe me? Try the crab cakes, or the calimari, and see for yourself.
The wait staff is lovely. Friendly, open, will chat with you. They serve you very well.
Even on a daytime lunch visit when perhaps the only staff on is the bartender, he's attentive, quick to serve, and your food comes quickly.
Then there's the atmosphere. Meeting friends or family there after work evokes the feeling I used to get when I did the same at the Ship Inn or the Duke of Duckworth in St. John's, and I never expected to get that feeling here in Norwood. I was wrong.
So for a quick and tasty lunch with a nicely chilled Irish ale, or a party-like group meeting after work, this place gets my top score.
Thanks, Napper's. Keep up the great work!
Only a 4 because the atmosphere was great and the beer they poured was perfect and well chilled (Harpoon IPA)
The food was mediocre. I got the onion soup and an Irish BLT.
The soup was only so so. I have had better. It was small for the price.
The BLT would have been great, but the bacon was too fatty and chewy. That may just be the style of Irish bacon. But I hated it.
All in all this seems like a great place for a pint and some appetizers.
I love Namby Pamby's!!!!! (I couldn't get the name straight when I first starting meeting a friend who lives nearby; the nickname has stuck)
Their food is good, though not especially unique - and the portions are good-sized; not overwhelming, but I usually have left-overs.
As someone else mentioned, the Trivia night takes over the bar with loud pop music, so you might want to bow out unless you're planning on playing - you won't be able to hear yourself talk, let alone those you're with. But hey, depending on your company, that might not be a bad thing ;)
Also true about the occasional gnarly beer, but have had more good luck than not. And the way I love beer, this would definitely be a deal breaker for me :)
Service has always been consistently great. And they've never screwed an order of mine up, which seems to be a rampant problem in Walpole/Norwood restaurants.
Place seems very clean, though dark wood and dim lights can hide a lot.
Plenty of parking; there is a public lot right across the street.
Anyplace with a patio holds a special spot in my heart. Thank you, Namby Pamby, you've provided a great setting for many a summer night!
We went here because we were in the mood to see some bad Karaoke. Â Well this is all we got. Â We went to the bar first ordered a few drinks. Â There was 3 bartender. Â One came over right away. Â We searched the restaurant side for the DJ (we could hear him but not see him). Â We couldn't find him. So I asked the waitress where was the Karaoke and she said "It was piped into the walls. Â We couldn't see him." Â What? I thought. Â The can't be right. We took another walk around the restaurant side and finally found DJ Charles Brewer tucked away in the corner, yes we could see him. I went back to the bar for another round and stood there for a few minutes while two of the bartenders stood there chatting right in front of me and the same guy as my first round came from the other end of the bar to help me. Â He was good. Â We asked a waitress if we could just sit anywhere. Â She said yes. Â We took a seat right up front. Â Charles was great. Â He is the only reason I am giving this place any stars. We sat for about 20 minutes before my boyfriend had to get up and go find a waitress. Â He found a waiter that was just leaving for the night and he sent someone over. Â She was good at first. Â We were only drinking beers. But she was on her game for a little while. Â Total fizz out by the end of the night. Â The singers were entertaining. Â It got worse as the night and the drinks went on but it was fun. Â There was a few particular patron that ruined the whole night by smelling of bad bad body odor. Â When singing on of the guys was grabbing a random lady and she was chocking on his smell. Â I now call this place Nasty Tandy's. Â When we ordered our last drink we asked for the tab. After she gave us the bill it took her another 15 minutes to come back and get my payment. Â I saw her in the distance a few times but could not get her attention. Â We were getting up to pay at the bar and she finally came around the corner and said something stupid about a computer problem. Â She had no idea at this point if I was paying cash or credit. Â Just a horrible experience with the service. Â They are hiring new servers maybe it is to replace the bad ones they have,
Review Source:Originally, we'd planned on finding a place to eat outside in the waning days of summer, but their back patio wasn't really going to fit 7 people on this evening; not because it was busy, but there were just enough people there to make the merging of tables into a bigger disruption than we typically cause. Â
So we adjourned into the nearly-empty inside, and set to work with a few pints and made fast friends with the friendly waitress who put up with our antics gamely (there was an duel of attempted wet willies at some point, which we kindly left her out of). Â
The food was pretty darned tasty; i had some pasta with chicken in it that i thought was pretty good, and a very enjoyable pint of Harpoon (just one? yeah, i'd already done a lot of drinkin' in the past three weeks). Â
The bar area is separated by doors, and seemed to have drawn a pretty decent crowd. Â
Also, they seem to have something of a plate-dropping problem; two actual crashes were heard, and a few more possible ones. It became something of a running joke. Â
Decent food, friendly service, a fine option if you should accidentally find yourself stranded in Norwood.
Great place to hang out for few beers or for dinner. Â Buffalo chicken dip is the absolute best thing around. Â Beef stew topped with mashed potato is a close second. Â The bar area can get noisy so if you want to watch a sporting event you better know how to read lips. Â Soccer is big here. Good selection of draft beer and lots of pub menu items. Â The wait staff and bartenders are very friendly.
Review Source:A favorite haunt of mine, Napper Tandy's once embodied the best of downtown Norwood. Â It still might, but I don't like it as much as I used to.
The menu is ok, but I have had some pretty bad meals there. Â I would stick to the pub food. Â Recent changes to the dining room and menu design tell me that Napper's is aiming for the family crowd; and though I can't blame them, I don't really want to sit in the dining room anymore. Â It is segmented now and seems much much smaller than it used to.
Beer selection is ok, though the tap lines are not always clean, or something (a couple gnarly beers have been served up there in my visits. Â Stick to the heavier flavours to counteract this effect. Â Smithicks and Hoegaarden taste better than Harpoon and Bass.)
The outdoor seating is probably my favorite part of Napper's in the summer. Â Nothing all that special, but enjoyable nonetheless. Â And then the bar is very cozy in the winter.
I tend to stay away from the trivia night (not that I don't enjoy trivia) because the trivia guy blares pop music over everything and is so loud that if you are not playing trivia, you cannot hold a conversation.
The only legitimate competition to Napper's draught list used to be Dogfish Head 60 minute at Lewis's, but it seems Lewis's stopped carrying that, so now I only have eyes for Napper's.
Napper Tandy's is pretty good. Â I've been here on more than one occasion. Â The bar is always full and the crowd often seems chipper (plus there's a nice age range in the place). Â Â Also, beers aren't too $$$$.
I'm a fan of the Curry fries, although I don't understand how that's Irish Fare.
Also, there's a nice little outside patio out back, if you want to catch a breeze.
Be prepared to squeeze through crowds on a busy night.
