We have been here several times and eat out a lot! Â The restaurant is clean and quaint, but a bit too open (cafeteria type seating). Â Service is above average for Springfield, which is nice. Â The food choices are higher class than most places in Springfield and they do a "Good" job with preparation.
Review Source:I went to Nick and Nino's for the first time yesterday. Beautiful and fun decor- perfect for a Penthouse Steakhouse. Ordered the Sushi app and Korean BBQ Duck, the portion was just right and it tasted wonderful. Great use of iPads for wine lists and dessert. Â Great staff who made the experience even more wonderful. With the great food, decor and the view of Springfield- this place is a must visit.
There's even a wonderful bar/event space right across the hall to visit too!!
Our reservation for two on a Thursday evening through Open Table was available on time for seating on the window overlooking Springfield. With a large table of politicians nearby the restaurant volume was still very comfortable for intimate conversation and a nice evening.
The appetizer menu offered many items of interest; we shared the Warm Mozzarella and Prosciutto Crostini. I am not a fan of balsamic flavor but the combination of the basil, prosciutto and balsamic reduction in this appetizer was great. Followed by a cup of Lobster Bisque each the slightly spicy bisque was a pleasant departure from the norm.
Having had much fish on the West Coast recently I opted for the petite Filet Mignon with garlic crust and my wife ordered the Korean BBQ Seared Duck Breast. We were not disappointed. The medium rare steak was cooked to perfection. I only twice before ordered a steak with a crust (blue cheese or peppercorn) and the garlic was light, optional per bite and just the right amount of flavor to add to the steak. I had requested a sauce at which the restaurant offered one of five in house flavors, I requested A1 which I never opened. My wife very much enjoyed the duck breast with the jasmine rise and biting kimchi slaw (her first as well).
Our pre-dinner drinks were served quickly and well mixed and my wife enjoyed her pinot (saying it was worth a repeat order - this is rare for her to find good pinot.)
The service was great despite a full restaurant as the evening progressed (from 7:30 PM onward). The noise level was never loud. While kids could eat here, I am glad we had a peaceful dinner. Â Deserts presented on an iPad seemed to favor mousses. I would prefer more variety; the one we tried was nice but not memorable.
The chef stopped out at the tables, including ours, to check on our satisfaction, a nice service in today's restaurant climate.
Love this place! Â I had the best steak ever and I have practically ate at every premiere steakhouse in the nation. Â My server was fantastic, I got vibes from the staff and the hospitality was comparable to southern. Â I have now found my go to place in the Land of Lincoln. Â Took dessert back to my hotel room to eat. Â I cannot wait to eat it!
Review Source:We made reservations at the last minute, so the only option we had was to eat at the bar (the restaurant only has 13 tables). It definitely turned out to be a great option, as the bartender (I believe his name was Mark) was friendly and fun to talk to. The food was fabulous! The house salad came with delicious goat cheese croutons that melt in your mouth, so delicious. I had the sea bass, which was good, and my friend had the scallops, which she loved. The chef came out to greet us and he was super friendly as well. And we loved the hostess, she was such a sweetie!
The view from the penthouse is also great! You wouldn't think there is much to see of such a tiny city, but everything always looks better at night from great heights.
My husband and I went here for his birthday with another couple we know. Â I really liked that I was able to make reservations through Open Table.
While really pricey, the food was delicious and well plated.
We started with the Warm Mozzarella and Prosciutto Crostini--there were three on the plate, which is cruel match between and even number of people. Â Even so--delicious!
I had the Flight of Filets with two garlic crusts and one mushroom truffle crust. Â I also added the side of truffle bordelaise sauce. Â I did not regret my pick!
My husband ordered the lamb chops with a wild mushrooms sauce. Â He'd liked the chops, but felt there was less meat and more bone than he might of liked. Â He didn't love the wild mushrooms sauce. Â He did enjoy my food as I shared it with him.
They used an iPad to present the selections for dessert... and I couldn't refuse after seeing the choices. Â The staff even did a little extra for my husband's birthday by putting a sparkler in the dessert and a chocolate piece that had "Happy Birthday" on it.
The only negative I'd put in is that server managed an impressive balance between hoovering when we didn't need him and invisibility when we did. Â The server that tended our water glasses did a great job--my cup never ran dry.
I'd certainly go there again for another special occasion.
Stopped in during a recent stay at the Hilton Springfield. Like all new restaurants they seem a bit hung up on being hip and have far too many gimmicks - hostess with a blue-tooth headset, wine list on an iPad, waitstaff in tuxedos but with the bow tie undone, etc. Even the food is a bit gimmicky - lobster corn dogs (lobster, crab and shrimp sausage and fried in cornmeal batter.
My selections:
I had the lobster bisque which was spot on and absolutely delicious.
Followed that with the house salad which comes with fried goat cheese balls as croutons. Can't go wrong with fried goat cheese but the lemon champagne vinaigrette was far too acidic.
I went with the pork chop for dinner. Chops and steaks come with a free sauce and crust of choosing if you'd like and I selected the mushroom truffle crust. The pork chop was too heavily salted around the edges which took away from the flavor but the mushroom truffle crust was excellent. Of course it is truffle flavor so you can put it on fries and be happy. Still, even with the truffle flavor you could taste the heavy salt through.
Service was good. They forgot my bread basket and didn't offer dessert but otherwise staff was attentive and food came in timely order.
The atmosphere, aside from the gimmicks, is great. You get an amazing view being at the top of the Hilton. Decor is modern steakhouse - reds, fluorescent, granite table tops and bar, lots of glass tile work, lamps throughout, and purple/pink plastic bull heads adorning the wall.
Overall, good food, good service, reasonable prices for the type of food and a cool atmosphere. Definitely a nice upscale addition to downtown where most places are a bit dated.
