Holy hell. Â What do you say about the Nickel...I like to joke that going to the Nickel is like attending a lesbian welder's conference. Â And it is. Â For the following reasons:
1. Â The bar is pretty much full of lesbians. Â But its a mixed crowd: Â
-Lesbians that look like they were welders back in the 70s;
-Lesbians that currently are welders;
-Lesbians who will go to trade school to become the future lesbian welders of the world;
-Lesbians who at some point will need, at some point, some product, that will require welding and respect the fact that their lady compatriox do good work in that regard;
-Lesbians who have no idea what welding is, but what the hell, everybody loves to attend a conference every once in awhile. Â
2. Â It is like attending a conference that has been going on for 15 years. Â In all the good ways -- it shows you're dedicated to your craft and are interested in how the current thought leaders are impacting the scholarship AND you get to see a bunch of ladies that you've befriended over the past 15 years. Â But in all the bad ways too -- at times it can feel like a bunch of ladies trying to get some action AND you get to see a bunch of ladies that you've "befriended" over the past 15 years.. Â
3. Â Welding is an entirely practical and useful skill. Â I'm pretty sure you're following my metaphor here. Â
The atmosphere is decidedly casual, the drinks are dirt cheap and the beer selection is pretty decent. Â They have a pool table, have regular karaoke nights, often host live music, and, if memory serves me there is decent outdoor space. Â
This may your idea of a great time. Â This could potentially be your worst nightmare. Â For me, its some of both. Â But, I'm giving it 4 stars because if you know what to expect the Nickel is pretty rocking for a bunch of ladies just looking to have a good time.
