This place has KICK ASS chicken kabobs - chicken was done perfectly - seasoned great and nice and juicy. Good size portion of food - enough for 2 people. I'd give 4.5 stars. Not sure why this place has received mediocre reviews. This was my first time here. And I've had a LOT of Greek food and Greek style fast food. I'd definitely go back if I was in the area.....
Review Source:It turns out Nick's Drive-in is a goto place in the Edison Park neighborhood and for good reason! Â They serve a variety of delicious food and it's one-stop shopping to create a custom-made dinner for a bunch of finicky eaters! Â Kids are welcome and should order the ice cream cone for dessert. Â Be sure to order the half roasted chicken with Greek potatoes for yourself! Â That's my alltime favorite! Â I wish I knew their Grecian recipe although I somehow doubt that my oven can cook a chicken the same way. That's why I go to Nick's Drive-in!
Review Source:This place has gone completely down hill. I used to drive for miles to come to this place for a burger. Then I realized that the burger meats were getting thinner each time I went there. So I stopped going for about a year.
Just the other day I stopped in to order a burger and fries. The burger meat was just as thin. But what's worse is their fries - they had a freezer taste to it, and wasn't fried but soggy instead.
Gross. I won't be going back.
Not sure what happened to this place. Â It used to be so good and now it's nasty!
I haven't been here in a few years but had a gyros and fries craving yesterday. Â There was NOBODY in there. Â The decor is still the same as it was in the 70's and probably hasn't been cleaned since then either. Â The counter has all the paper and plastic wrap, silverware, etc, right in the open which doesn't seem too sanitary. Â The TV was blasting loud. Â The guy working there couldn't have been more UN-friendly... he took my money, threw my change on the counter, and sat down in a booth to read a book. Â Whatever.
So I get home and open the bag, and the grease was dripping all over the place. Â The food was on a plastic plate covered with foil... not even a styrofoam container. Â The meat was floating in the grease and the pita was soaked. Â The tzaziki sauce was warm and runny and I couldn't even eat it. Â The gyros has such an overpowering garlic flavor it's almost too much. Â And I LOVE garlic. Â But the grease.. OMG the grease. Â Worse than any greasy gyros I've ever had.
The fries were delicious although super greasy and there were hardly any in the bag.
Almost $11 for something I could barely eat. Â Sorry Nick's, you're not "the best" anymore. Â Now I know why there are never any customers in here anymore.
Ok, I have been living in the Edison park/Niles area for my entire life. I've been to Nicks drive in a couple of times and by a couple of times I mean twice. This place is a total hole and should be closed. Its dirty and the people who work here are rude, and the food is disgusting. Its greasy and there is absolutely nothing even remotely healthy on their menu. Also, there's a list of restaurants in the chicagoland area that are health risks. Nicks drive in was on that list a couple of years ago. I advise everyone NOT to eat here because its nasty. Ill never eat here again and I advise everyone I know not to eat here also!
Review Source:If you are a fan of char foods and lived on the north side you would know that there were two Greek owned places that were called Nick's. This is NOT the original Nick's nor had it any relation to the original which was located in Chicago on Pulaski and Devon Avenue. This location always wanted a claim to fame which is why they were known as Nick's #2 and claimed a relation. Although there was never any. When the original Nick's closed... well, there you go. I just wanted to get that off my chest. Neither back then or today are the gyros here any better. But in comparison to what you find at a greasy spoon in Greektown, I'd have it here first. Food is okay. Not good enough to pull me from my Chicago favorites. Â Food is pricey in comparison to a typical drive thru so expect to spend some cash.
Review Source:Very solid gyros joint.  The gyros meat they use here is top notch and tops in the area.  I've had gyros in greektown and this place holds its own. The inside looks a little dingy but it is a drive-in I guess...bottom line is the food is good.  Yummy steak fries, shakes and pizza puffs too.  In terms of  value, go for the gyro platter for a generous helping of meat and fries.
Review Source:The four stars sum up my opinion of the place...yay- I'm a fan. Although this isn't my go-to place when I need some greasy food, it's not bad.
They have the staples that most places like this do. Every fried food you can imagine, decent dogs, decent gyros....and good grilled cheese.
Parking is annoying, but the place is good. The food is quick and the staff is always cool....
Nothing Special. I decided to try the Gyros sandwich. It was just OK. There are much better Gyros sandwiches in the Chicago area.
I purchased the Gyros plate and there weren't that many fries with the thing. It was right in the middle of dinner time and there was only one couple in the place. The price was a little high. I paid over $6 for the Gyros and fries.
This is the first time I tried Nick's. It is very old looking inside.
I'm not sure if I will return again. There are just too many better places to eat in the area.
I first began to patron Nick's back in 1987, where after a long day of my college preparatory studies, I would frequently relax and enjoy a smooth banana milkshake on the grease infested east bound 290 Touhy. But alas- those days of yore are far removed as my experience today enforced...
I ordered a chicken sandwich with cheddar and bacon- sans mayo, and what I received much to my chagrin- a prepubescent excuse for a chicken breast with A strip of bacon slathered in fake nacho cheese sauce.
Now when I ordered the sandwich, the elderly gentlemen underneath the pointy hat informed me they have Mozzarella, American and Cheddar cheese, so rightfully I assumed that cheddar cheese actually meant- CHEDDAR cheese! Â NOT some condensed Aged Cheddar Cheese Sauce known on the market as the "Profit Maker" because it gives you 159 ounces of servable product with every can by adding 32 ounces of water and 32 ounces of pepper juice. Â Oh yeah- don't let me get started about the "added flavor". anyway...
when i approached ol' gray nuts about my concerns, he then basically ridiculed me in front of the whole line waiting to order. Â as if I'm crazy for wanting a slice of real cheddar?!?!?
on top of all of it- my tamale was drenched in water and runnier than shart.
all in all- a TERRIBLE dining experience. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH $8.98.
save your $ and buy 2 chickens from Trader Joes.
For the most part, Nick's is just your run of the mill old-fashioned fast food restaurant. Â I don't know why it's called a "drive in"-- I guess as opposed to having girls skate out to your car a la American Graffiti.
Anyway, the food is tasty. Â They have the usual: burgers, gyros, rotisserie chicken. Â But, I always come here hoping that the soup of the day will be the homemade egg lemon. Â It's really authentic, and you don't have to go all the way to Greektown for it. Â Excellent.
