I was invited to have dinner here one night. Â When I first walked in, I thought .. wow .. it's kind of like a bar scene in NYC. Â It was a busy night and there was a live band performing.
Chris was already there waiting for me, but as soon as I sat down, it didn't take long for the waiter to come over and greet me. Â However, he mistaken me for my friend's wife ('all Asian look alike' moment going on) .. and congratulated me on having a baby. Â He then realized that I'm not a person he is thinking of .. which was a bit awkward and kind of funny. Â So he just kept apologizing and left us alone.
I ordered Sea Bass and it was delightful. Â The fish was just so buttery good, melt in your mouth good. Â It was light, but yet flavorful. Â Chris ordered steak frites, his usual as he's a regular there.
It's a pretty hip place for a small town, great place to hang out if you want a bar scene. Â I would love to visit and hang there again.
I was a little underwhelmed with this place. I decided to give it a shot and was seated outside on a decent summer night. The service was relatively slow but the place was packed. Our appetizers were pretty decent but we were disappointed with our entrées. Then came the price which was far too much for the level of service and quality of food.
Review Source:Our third time for dinner at the North Star, and our first disappointment. Â Our dinner with friends started well, being seated on time at what we thought was a nice table in the dining area. Â However, the noise level was intolerable throughout the meal, a combination of bad acoustics, a too lively bar crowd, and a din of dishes and silverware clattering in the kitchen. Â Virtually impossible to speak and hear across the table!
The food choices (three fish, one soft-shell crabs) were fine, but lacking in heartiness, with just minimal help from a few snow peas and a tiny portion of basmati rice. Â Everything was well prepared, but lacking in zest.
We want to like the restaurant, as it has the feel of a good roadside inn, but not the hearty comfort style food.
Perhaps a burger and beer at the bar might be a better option.
My wife and I went to North Star last Saturday evening and very much enjoyed it. My wife started with the asparagus salad, which I sampled, and it was unusual and very tasty. Â I had the sauteed calamari appetizer, which I ordered, because most restaurants serve it only fried (North Star also serves a fried calamari appetizer), and I can definitely recommend it. I ordered the butternut squash agnolotti, which was very good, but also very rich, so I ate half of it and switched with my wife, who had ordered the sauteed halibut with fennel, which was delicious. For dessert, we split an order of fig ice cream with fruit.
The restaurant has an air of country casual, yet sophisticated. Â The service is very good, and the presentation of the food is elegant.
I do not know where to start...
Northstar is a superb restaraunt located just across the Connecticut border in Pound Ridge, NY (also exit 4 from 684). The restaurants boasts a wonderful menu (beet salad, shortribs, homemade soups, fresh goat cheese salads, etc) and splendid desserts.
The best part: the live music and bands that the restaurant attracts. Always lively with the band, tv to catch the game, and a great bar and staff to help you enjoy the experience.
A neighborhood gem! Warm ambience, friendly eclectic crowd, good creative food and quality music!
Have enjoyed the talented Andy Aledort along with nice sea bass (potential music/food pun here?), tasty braised short rib with luscious mashed potatoes, a yummy super fresh salad with crispy bacon and delightful little goat cheese crostini, a delicious ravioli, and less exciting tuna tartare, duck dumplings, bay scallops, syrupy banana crepe and creme brûlée. Food ranges from good to excellent. The sauces and flavorings are outstanding, but sometimes it seems the fish could taste a tad more right-off-the-boat. Lots more great sounding dishes I'm eager to try.
Service is friendly and can vary from too hovering to where'd ya go, but they aim to please, and it's all quite relaxed, which is just what you'd want up the road on a cold icy night. Can't wait to try North Star when it's warm outside, too!
I often forget about this place because it's a bit off the beaten path in Pound Ridge, but every time I go the food and service are great. Â The chef really comes up with some nice creations, and the menu frequently changes. Â He puts together odd combinations that really end up working well. Â My example tonight was a stir-fried side of tomatoes, brussel sprout leaves, and small onions...i'm not usually a sprout fan, but this combo was great! Â Another in my party had a seabass special with a wonderful cucumber based sauce that was out of this world. Â As always, my ribeye was done to perfection. Â Can't wait to return. Â Great place!
