MOM's is the go-to bar in Doylestown, the beer selection is ever evolving and if you get hungry the food is prepared well and always enjoyable. Â Service is attentive here, the bartenders are always ready to refill your drink or take your order. Â The newly added upstairs bar has eased congestion downstairs, and become an area for live music on the weekends. Â There's also a small deck outside that's great during the summer, but it fills up quickly on weekends. Â The place itself has a nice traditional pub feel, and lacks the date rape vibe that's become so prevalent at The Other Side, Bobby Simone's, and Stephanie's Downstairs. Â If you want a place to sit and chat with friends over a few drinks, this is the place.
Review Source:The Filet Mignon was superb. The stuffed meatloaf was the kind of meal you describe in detail at your next family gathering. The wait staff - Doug and Rachel in particular - are unwaveringly helpful and polite. I'm a repeat diner and each new meal never fails to impress. If you enjoy food with a southern flair you can't go wrong here.
Review Source:I ventured back into this place this past Saturday for my boyfriend's birthday and was pleasantly surprised that not only was the bartender I wrote about in my last review working that night, but she was actually working and professional. I had a great experience, and felt that the entire staff on the busy Saturday night was extremely attentive to patrons and working hard to make sure that everyone was having a good time.
While I did not order food during this visit, I did recommend it to two friends that had never eaten here before and they were very happy with their choice to eat here instead of somewhere else.
This bar genuinely cares about the happiness of its patrons, and does an excellent job at addressing issues that come up and making sure to do what they can to keep their good name going.
Great job. :)
Tasty food and great service! My lineup of food was the crawfish bisque soup along with the creole crab dip. My girlfriend enjoyed the grilled mahi-mahi special and I had the jambalaya entree. I washed my jambalaya down with the 4 Hands Divide IPA craft beer and my girlfriend drank the beer infused margarita. The food and drink were excellent and the atmosphere was dim and moderately quiet. We went over to the bar side after dinner for a few more drinks. Definitely would recommend!
Review Source:My pregnant wife was craving comfort food so being new to the area, I had to hop on yelp to find something. Â During my search, I stumble upon Maxwell's. Â Mac-and-cheese for her? Â Check. Â Good craft beer selection for me? Â Check. Â All that I had to tell my lil' designated driver is that this place had southern food and she was in. Â
We had to park a few blocks away and stroll through Doylestown on a frigid Friday night to get to Maxwell's. Â Arriving at 9 pm, we had no problem getting a table right away, even with the restaurant still full at that time. Â Of course, I look through the beer menu first and was quite impressed with the draft and bottle list. Â I would like to see more wines by the glass available but that is just a small complaint. Â They did have a good number of specialty cocktails available that I'll look forward to sampling on future visits. Â
The dinner menu had a ton of options. Â I wish that we went with more people so that we could sample some more of the choices. Â That was the only difficulty of the night, just deciding what to order. Â We went with the Lone Star flat bread as an appetizer which was BBQ beef brisket with french onions. Â They can probably lighten up on the french onions but it was still very good and we devoured it. Â For dinner, my wife had the grilled sausage and peppers with mustard which came with a side of mac-and-cheese and I went for the pan seared chicken with creamed kale and wild rice. Â Without a doubt, I was sampling her mac-and-cheese, which turned out to be delicious. Â It was creamy with a sharp, make-no-mistake this is cheese flavor. Â The sausage and peppers were excellent too. Â My pan seared chicken seemed more like pan fried but it still good, just not what I expected. Â I'm a big fan of creamed spinach so the creamed kale was a nice spin on that classic side.
The service at Maxwell's was very attentive; we probably had five different people check on us to make sure everything was OK while we were there. Â The atmosphere was enjoyable as well. Â The bar was in a separate room so that seemed to keep the noise down in the dining area, which was definitely on the casual side. Â We didn't have room for dessert, but I guess we'll have to save space for that on our next trip to Maxwell's.
We've really enjoyed the occasional lunch at the bar lately. We enjoy the varying menu. Nice tuna-melt, good fish tacos, and the salads are tasty. The beer menu is like a box of chocolates--- you never know what you're going to get, but there is always a fun selection and it makes a good chance to try something new. Just don't fall too much in love, because like a fickle girlfriend, she'll be gone next week or next month. That's part of the fun. Variety is the spiced ale of life. And yes, they do have some of the best bartenders on earth. Second time we went in, after a week's passing, and the barkeep remembered what we had last time!
Review Source:My husband and I were there yesterday for a late lunch. I had the son of a rockstar wheat beer made with peaches, it was tasty! For lunch I had the buffalo flatbread and he had the red eye burger. Both were tasty. The sweet potato fries that came with the burger were yummy! Staff was average.
Review Source:Has a great craft beer list and is a great supporter of local live musical acts. The food is clearly an afterthought. Nothing to get excited about, there was nothing I wanted on the menu. Nachos were disappointing- white beans and cheese on a flatbread with jalapeno and sour cream. It was a mushy mess.
Will eat first before going to see more music.
I've been to the bar a few times and had a great time but just recently I had the chance to try the food. During our recent visit, we sat in the dining room area which we absolutely loved. The interior of the place is very well done, yet comfortable. There is an upstairs with an additional bar which I recently learned about too so check that out. We have always been happy with the drink selection since they rotate through craft beers but I also like their unique cocktails. We tried a few different appetizers and sides which were all pretty good. Our favorite was the Gorgonzola mashed potatoes but the mac and cheese plus fried pickles were good too (can you tell we were totally craving southern cooking?).
Review Source:Just re-read my review from 2 years ago and decided I owed MOM's an update. Â This place has only gotten better, the menu is expanding and the Happy Hour is still a great bargain with a huge selection of beers that are very hard to find elsewhere. Â Additionally, they have renovated the second floor into a great bar that often features live music and is a great place to hang out. Â The owners and staff here really seem to get it and understand that customer service is king but you need to back it up with good food and drink. Â They do both well. Â Mom's is within yards of a lot of other places but from what I can see they seem to increase in terms of number of customers which speaks volumes about the place considering the neighborhood is very competitive in terms of choices. Â Definitely give it a try.
Review Source:I had dinner with a coworker on Monday evening. The place wasn't busy so I was a little disappointed at the wait for the server to greet us.
The beer selection was fantastic with 8 craft beers on tap and many more available by the bottle. The dinner menu was varied and had some great comfort food selections. I enjoyed the garlic crisp crackers and hummus that we're brought out prior to meal. The grilled Sausage was very good as well as the Mac and cheese.
I would return next time I'm in the area and try some of the other items on the menu.
since the overhaul from maxwell's, i've been in twice for lunch on a saturday. service is a little slow (at least on saturday - i can't speak for dinner shifts), but i didn't mind. the beer selection is fairly extensive with microbrews from across the country. it seems the menu changes fairly often because the bell's pale ale i had one week wasn't on the menu a couple weeks later. the lunch menu is large - it was hard to decide. i've had the crawfish po' boy (yum!) and ham and brie sandwich (meh. too much fig. kind of weird). definitely worth a shot.
however, the bar is still annoyingly small in this place (read: bar in a hallway). when i was there, though, they were revamping the upstairs bar. maybe that one will be better.
The staff were very attentive and very nice. Prices were a very high for the type of food - the sides were $5 each! I'm sorry but if I'm paying $5 for 1/2 cup of mac n cheese it better be really good mac and cheese and $5 mashed potatoes better be lined with gold or something (though there is an option for truffle mashed potatoes).... My $12 burger and my $5 mac and cheese added up to a meal i will never be getting again. It was tasty and well prepared but just the cost of such average menu items makes me cringe. -Side note: bad parking situation.... come prepared to walk. The heart of Doylestown as a whole has parking issues.
Food: C+ (it was good. Somewhat of a small menu but It was good. The mini corn dogs were tasty. My husband had the jambalaya which he said was very bland and uninteresting. (Tomato sauce with rice topped with andouille sausage and shrimp... zero spice) and I had the cheese burger which was cooked to my liking. Mac and cheese was better than average)
Beer: B+ (though its no Iron Abbey, this place has a decent selection when it comes to bottled craft brews -along with the traditional Americans on tap as well. Could use more craft on tap though since they advertise as being a good craft brew place)
Service: A+ (VERY attentive waiter who was not overly attentive. He magically appeared when we needed him like he had a sixth sense. it was very nice)
Atmosphere: C (eh....it was excessively loud thanks to the layout/architecture and the table we got was wobbly. The chair I was sitting in felt like it was about to fall apart when I scooted closer to the table. Has more than one floor which I thought was interesting.)
This place is making money like crazy, I'm happy for them, but they wont be getting our cash again. OK place to eat, we would go back for drinks and snacks if the menu wasn't so harsh on the wallet and parking was better. Our bill came to about $55+$10 tip and this is what we got: 1 strongbow (I had water ), 1 order of mini corn dogs (you get 4), jambalaya, and a burger with a side of mac and cheese.
I have had good experiences at MOM's over multiple visits in the last couple months. Overall they have good service at the bars upstairs and down, and I'd say all but one bartender I encountered seemed knowledgeable about the drinks he/she was serving. They have a pretty diverse beer selection, which is mainly what interests me about this destination, so I highly recommend it to beer lovers looking for something new they haven't tasted before. Have had the food only once, a Mediterranean salad which was good, not the best in the area but it definitively satisfied me. I would certainly like to try more from their menu as far as food, and will of course return for the beer :) as it is a solid spot in Dtown for sure.
Review Source:12 of us, grand kids, kids, and grandparents ate here and enjoyed decent appetizers, entrees, and cocktails on the second floor. Â All was fine, if not good, until the waiter returned with the bill asking for a better tip. Â There was a miscalculation on the bill, but it wasn't realized until we left. Â Not to cause a stir and to follow holiday cheer he got more, but it was awkward.
The owners have contacted us in apology and that was appreciated and we added another star. Â It matched more with the positive changes in food and atmosphere that first impressed us. Â Because of this outreach, we will return (but maybe with different waitstaff). Â Hope to add another star with the next meal.
Bring your wallet, and a signal flare
Do you enjoy paying way too much for craft beers? Like it when your bartender pretends you're invisible and takes 10-15 minutes to finally ask if you'd like another beer, even though you've been waiving your arms like you're notifying a rescue plane that you're there at the bar with an empty glass? Then Maxwell's on Main is the place for you! In addition to lousy service, expect mediocre food, high prices, and a single, unisex rest room. I'm sure that will be a big hit with the ladies. Nothing better than seeing urine splashed all over the toilet seat after some beer slob has been in there, right gals?
Ownership needs to get their heads out of their collective asses and get with the program. A single rest room won't cut it. Neither will a rude bar staff. It's nice to have a decent beer selection, but your markup is ridiculous, boys. Are you trying to pay the place off in your first year? Charge realistic beer prices. It doesn't taste better if I pay more. Treat your customers as you would like to be treated. Spend less time chatting with your friends at the bar and pay more attention to empty beer glasses. This is supposed to be work, remember? You have a potential gold mine here, and you're blowing it. You're somewhat successful because choices in the area are limited, not because you're doing it right.
Definitely a B- grade for all the "buts..." in my review.
Food was good - but not great.
5-7, 7 days/week Happy Hour was a pleasant - but until our waitress wouldn't honor the $2 off beers at 7:02 when we didn't have or see service for 20min.
Terrific microbeer menu - but were out of 3 (out of 7 or 8) on tap.
Recently added outdoor seating upstairs (could be considered rooftop, with a view, 6 tables and hip low hanging lights - but we had to ask to have the lights turned on when it got dark out.)
I have gone to Moms a couple times. They have some good selections on there menue. I live the fish tocos. I recently got a spicy burger togo. It a great burger and really spicy which I like. Just make sure you handle spice. The only negative I would say is I got sweet potato fries. They charged me for  them but I got regular fries instead. They were jandcut and good. Just think they should check better.
Review Source:Doylestown has a lot of bar and restaurant options but service and charm really set this place apart, and I've been waiting years for a place like M.O.M.'s. Â
My first impression is that of the space itself: it's cozy and hip, a cool bar, nice little touches of red and other warm tones and a back area where local musicians are featured on a weekly basis.
The staff has always been super friendly and the bartenders are knowledgeable about the great craft beer list.
The owners are two hard-working, friendly and down-to-earth brothers who actually used to own a bar/restaurant in NYC that I used to frequent. Â I figured out that connection one of the first times I met them and I'll admit that it cemented my love for this place.
Athough I live in Philadelphia, M.O.M.'s is the first place I head with one, or several of my three brothers, to catch up and spend some quality family time. We are always warmly welcomed and as the place has grown in popularity, it's a guarantee we wll bump into other familiar faces.
The food has a nice southern flair and while I haven't spent much time trying out the menu, the burgers are juicy and well prepared and the mini corn dogs are great comfort food.
It's been a couple months since I was last there and I know they are in the midst of rennovating the upstairs and back deck. Â I'm looking forward to seeing their improvements and I can only imagine it will gain them even greater regular clientele.
Lastly, I love their jukebox and what I love even more is that they always appease my tipsy requests to turn the music up louder...and louder. Doesn't get better than that!
Kudos to the owners for pulling together a true standout in Doylestown. Â I'll be seeing you soon!
I wish this place stopped trying to be fancy. The portions are small and the prices are on the high side (at least for the entrees). I ended up getting the fish tacos (which are an app) and the fish had no taste, but luckily the coleslaw did. My waiter said the fish tacos were the wait staff's favorite item, and I was surprised since they were mediocre at best. The other items on the menu sound good, so I'll give this place another try.
Review Source:On a day trip to Doylestown, my husband and I were wandering around in the adorable downtown area and came across Maxwell's on Main and decided to have lunch.
The staff was incredibly friendly, the space is comfortable and the food was delicious.
I absolutely recommend the slow cooked pork quesadilla's - they may be appetizers, but can definitely work as a full meal. They were simply divine.
We sat at the bar and the bartender was super sweet and the service was speedy.
We had the poached pear salad with goat cheese and prosciutto. It was pretty good until I realized there was no goat cheese. We told the bartender and she checked with the kitchen. She said it was already mixed in which it wasn't. Not even a hint of dissolved goat cheese. No dice.
American Cheese Burger- a pretty decent burger on an awesome roll. Luckily, I don't care for lettuce/tomato/onion because there was a skimpy, muted pile of something they we pushed off.
This restaurant will do well because of the location but I have a feeling the kitchen still resembles that gross maxwells kitchen from years ago.
I've been to MOM's for brunch twice with friends since my last review.
They have a great brunch special - a house mimosa or Bloody Mary, an appetizer, an entree and a side for $22.
Both times, I ordered the sausage and egg cassoulet. It's a little casserole of beans (the beans were white the first time, and red yesterday), bacon, sausage, spices, bread crumbs and eggs. The eggs usually are sunny-side-up, but I get them scrambled. And it comes with a spring mix salad on the side. It's delicious and filling.
The server always lets me order two appetizers (double fried pickles!) instead of an appetizer and a side. I love it!
I've also sampled...
The cornflake-crusted stuffed French toast. It's super-sweet and delicious. My friend who ordered it loved it.
The Monte Cristo. It's a nice savory sandwich of prosciutto, arugula and I-forget-which cheese. My friend who ordered it was expecting something sweet, so she wasn't in love with it. But it's good if you're looking for something savory.
The fried green tomatoes. It was the first time I ever had fried green tomatoes, so I don't know what they're supposed to taste like. But they were really good.
The mini corn dogs. What can you say about corn dogs? They're delicious.
The sausage. It has maple syrup IN it. I know some people put syrup on their sausage, and that's fine if you like it like that. But if you're not used to it (and I'm not, and neither was the friend who ordered it), it's a really weird flavor.
Went to brunch here and it was delish. I got the chicken burger with sweet potato fries. The chicken burger was amazing. It came with lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo. It was cooked perfectly. My fiance enjoyed the mini corn dog appetizer. He didn't like the dipping sauce with it, but did enjoy the app overall. His mom enjoyed the french dip. Overall, we were very happy with our decision to eat there. We were skeptical at first because of the lack of customers and decor, but we will definitely return. Service was good too.
Review Source:Really disappointed. Â I order the Ruben Sandwich. Â The menu is vague and does not mention the traditional swiss or the russian dressing. Â Just to make sure, I specifically asked the server. Â She said absolutely it comes with both. Â It was served with with the swiss & no visible, detectable sauerkraut. Â It was also served with tartar sauce. Â I Â brought it to the attention of the server. Â She then brought out a duplicate of the tartar and called it thousand island. Â They should probably learn the difference - russian has horseradish as an ingredient & thousand does not. Â If I hadn't asked the server about the details before placing the order I wouldn't have been that annoyed. Â The fact that she "yessed" me & then acted like I was crazy was maddening! Â We won't be back. Â My guess is with that kind of customer service they won't last long.
