Pink Pyramid, I will never make fun of you again!

We came here because of Yelp and boredom with our hotel's dinner offerings. HOLY COW FLAVOR EXPLOSION.  This is typical resort food, done to the nth degree.  Someone knows their stuff in the kitchen, our dinner exploded in our mouth.  For an appetizer we had the lettuce cups with ground chicken, for dinner I  had the mahi mahi new orleans / cajun style and I nearly wept.  This was the best dinner of two visits to Maui.  Wow.

After a harrowing drive on West Maui's narrow, winding, sometimes single lane roads and bridges, we needed a drink (or two) once we'd reached Lahaina. Yelp came to the rescue with the recommendation of Ohana.

As we got nearer, we spotted a crazy cheesy, salmon-colored, triangular shaped hotel and hoped gleefully that Ohana was situated inside. Indeed it was.  This, my friends, was the Kaanapali Beach Club. It appeared that a big bite of middle America had landed on its time share shore but most were still in the pool when we arrived for happy hour.

We swiftly ordered some super sweet blended beverages and soaked up the final hour or so of bright afternoon sunshine. Against my dining companion's wishes (but knowing full well he'd partake when they got to the table) I ordered some nachos (also discounted for happy hour). They arrived as you might expect at a place like this: a plate piled high with chips covered in neon orange nacho cheese sauce with the requisite accompaniments of salsa, sour cream, olives, etc. Obviously, they were so bad they were good. Which is how I might describe the overall experience at Ohana.

After a few drinks we spent sunset on the soft sand beach in front of the hotel. If you're in the area around happy hour (15:00-18:00), Ohana is definitely worth a visit for that pina colada you've been craving.

BUFFALO WINGS..something about them that transcends you to a place far better than just Maui. Plump and deep fried, very large wings with a super tangy buffalo sauce, the kind that tickles your nostril hairs when you take a sniff. Ranch or blue chesese sauces were perfectly complimentary. I came here twice in one day while we stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Club. Got the fish tacos (excellent), and the kalua pork (very well made, tender, and an island fave). It's hard to say you would come back unless you were in the area. Maui you can only drive 40-50 miles an hour to get from place to place). Highways are slow.

But to talk about the service..fantastic. They remember you as if you were part of their Ohana. They remember names of my family members and they're always in a  good mood (or maybe that's just all of Hawaii's culture, haha). The view is great...right by the oceanside...and with a mini waterfall connected to the pool area to the left of the restaurant, cabanas, and a beautiful sunset. Perfect place for a date..

ps. watch for the birds. they're hawaii day mosquitos and they will come close and take your crap if you turn away. WATCH IT.

The banana kahuna drink is awesome. The piña coladas are overly sweet, and the Mai Tai is strong. Just tried the California burger today, and it was better than 90% of burgers at other restaurants. They have a potato-macaroni salad which is a little mayo-rich. The 5-star review is because you just can't beat good food, drinks, prices, and a view at the convenience of a walk-in.

Hotel we stayed at had a good bar with a view and decent food.
My wife and I sampled every Mai Tai in a 20 mile radius of Kaanapali, and surprisingly the drinks at our hotel had the best Mai Tais.
Also, the Kahlua BBQ pork pizza was bomb, ordered a few of them during our week stay.

Atmosphere was great. It was Pool side and beach side, candlelit with tiki torches and white Christmas lights...very romantic. Awesome service, food and drinks were good. I had the classic KBC burger and the meat was tender and juicy. Pricing was decent.

We came to this restaurant because we wanted a quiet restaurant on the beachfront.

First of all, I was surprised by the price (surprised that it wasn't as expensive as all the other restaurants on Lahaina).   BTW if you want to know,  there's a article in "Maui Reveled" stating that the the best deals for great restaurants on Maui are actually in the resorts.

I was very surprised by the speed of the service.  One minute I placed the order, listening to the ocean, and then not more than 5 minutes later, I receive the food.

I had the Parmesan chicken, which was part of the healthy menu, and was very delicious.  It wasn't over sized, but just the right size.

I should have ate at this restaurant earlier on my trip.  It would've saved me a lot of money and would've have great for take out too.

Drinks are strong and decently priced.  Service was always friendly. View is great for sunsets and really close to amazing off-shore snorkeling.  However... their food is serious lacking.  We went during cocktail hour, and their cocktail hour "pupus" were a joke.  $5 nachos sounds like an ok deal, but when you get your bread plate with a few chips drowning in Ortega processed cheese and Pace Picante salsa you wonder what they were thinking.  Saw other people's entrees - nothing looked impressive or particularly special for their high price tag. Take the time to walk down to Duke's for their cocktail hour nachoes - now those are tasty!

Super slow service, hit or miss live music, insanely overpriced gross drinks, mediocre food.  I loved one of the guys and his guitar; he was good and his song choices were perfect; there was another guy later in the week that I considered tipping to STOP playing.
I ordered a mai tai and had to bring it back because it just tasted. . . off.  When I told the bartender, he asked "off how?" and I said, "like the juice is old or something" and without missing a beat he said, "oh yeah."  It was clearly no surprise that the juice might be old.  Gross.  I swapped it out for a margarita which was also pretty gross; I threw most of it away.  The pina colada I had the first night was decent though.
I don't mean to split hairs, and I know this is a business and you charge for the things you sell, but $2 for gross soda water from the gun that tastes a little like it was made with sea water?  Really?
If it wasn't right here I certainly wouldn't have bothered more than once and it is definitely NOT a destination stop along your beach walk.

We came here for drinks, although some of our friends had something to eat -- we didn't. The drinks here were pretty good though. I had the 'lava flow' which was a pina colada with strawberry puree. It tasted like a milkshake! It filled me up -- was like a meal in itself. YUM!!

The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. Our friend sings here from time to time and on this evening, we came here to support him, but also, for the gang to catch up.

I would definitely come back again for drinks. Service was friendly.

Tried this place out for dinner. I figured I'd give it a chance despite the fact that it had only 2 reviews...

The karaoke should've tipped me off, also the fact that I didn't really get a good vibe out of the place. But my party (of 13) had a hard enough time finding the restaurant that we decided to just stay the course.

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and fries. I found it just 'meh.' A couple of people in my party each ordered a Caesar salad - one with chicken and the other with tomato. Both were pretty.....disgusting from the looks on their faces. The "lettuce" was swimming in dressing and the chicken on the one salad was "aged" and not to perfection. We complained to our waitress about the salad - especially the chicken Caesar, which she took off our bill.

I will not be returning to this place especially with better options available on Maui.

I've been to Hawaii a number of times and despite all those great experiences I've had in paradise, all of my memories seem to boil down to a single food experience. Let me tell you about... the EMBASSY BURGER.

This burger was so amazing that I have had to stop myself, at least a dozen of times, from spontaneously booking a flight and stay at the Kaanapali Beach Club. I tried the burger for the first time when I was 13 years old. It changed my life and I am now cursed with unrealistic expectations of what a burger SHOULD be like. Every few years my family and I would go to KBC and stay for 1 or 2 weeks. I would order the Embassy Burger every chance I got. If I had already eaten both lunch and dinner that day, I'd order it for dessert. On one trip I had it 5 days in a row. It was the most sickening addiction I've ever had.

Unfortunately my family finally gave up our Embassy time share and I haven't been in years. I'm sure the recipe/chefs/and grill itself has changed since then. I won't even try to describe this majestic burger or any of its glory. Let's just say that I can easily claim it as THE best burger I've ever had in my life.

It was soooo good--I remember vividly on the last day of a particular Hawaiian trip, I ordered it a total of 3 times. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The next day, when we were checking out of the hotel, I asked my mom if I could order one to go for the plane ride. She said no and broke my heart. :(

This bar & grill is in the Kaanapali Beach Club, & the location is beautiful; it's at poolside with a lovely view of the ocean from many of the tables. They have a great selection of the usual yummy fruity drinks that you expect to find in Hawaii; they also have a respectable menu with delicious food. We experimented with the drinks; my favorites were the pina colada & the molokai monkey, & my fiance favored the shark bite.

For dinner, I chose a cheeseburger with bacon and mushrooms, and it was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by some excellent french fries; crispy but not too crunchy, & nicely seasoned. My fiance chose the fish and chips, which were hit or miss; most of the fish was tender and tasty while other pieces were rather fishy.

The service was quite inconsistent. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, but disappeared & was nowhere to be found for large chunks of time, leaving us to do much more waiting than we would've liked (including waiting for her to come take the credit card to pay the bill, never a smart move).

One perk was that we arrived during happy hour, when all alcohol is 50% off..almost made up for the lackluster service, but not quite. Another perk was that as the sun went down, a man dressed in Hawaiian garb went around & blew a conch shell as he lit the torches around the pool & beachside; that was quite cool.

All in all a so-so experience, but on the pleasant side of so-so; a more attentive waitress would've made all the difference in the world.

    ----------

Edit: We returned to Ohana a few nights later. The food and drinks remained delicious, but I guess 'make 'em wait' is a keyword there, because the waiter we had the second night wasn't especially prompt either. Ah well..you can always chalk it up to 'living on island time' (where there is no such thing as being in a hurry) if you like; personally I don't like to be kept waiting (especially during the aforementioned wait for the credit card to be billed).
