A friend of mine who is really into sports asked me to meet at the Flying Pig to watch a basketball game. Â It was the only place described as a sports bar close by in Lewisville. Â More like a smoke bar. Â I think that all the patrons of local bars that ban smoking moved here. Â I could not stay more than 10 minutes before I had to leave from not being able to breathe.
Review Source:Decent little neighborhood bar situated right on Main Street USA, well to be more precise Main St. Lewisville. Â A friend and I stopped by for a few beers and some apps to try them out. Â It was like walking into Cheer's sort of. Â All the regulars were at the bar and we were the outsiders, but after the initial staring everything was good to go and people were really friendly. Â The beer was fairly priced and the drink special was surprisingly good. Â The big downside was that evidently we choose the wrong day to come. Â The cook never showed up that day and only the bartender was working, so much for apps. Â Regardless though it was enjoyable experience and would readily go back for a place to kick back and just drink.
Review Source:I'm from Austin... so I am biased. Â That being said, here goes.
I Â don't like cigarettes, I don't like smokey places, I don't dig customer service people with a total lack of customer service.
Dallas people are different than Austinites, and I have to keep that in mind. Â We're more laid back and friendly, it seems. Â However, when you're a bartender and you want to make money from people that aren't you regulars, it's in your best interest to be nice to them.
We walk in, it's definitely a small-town bar full of regulars, which I think makes it a better place, usually. Â People tend to be more friendly and you don't have to worry about ridiculous bar fights or any of that other crap.
We plant ourselves on a barstool and the bartender asks to see our IDs. Â I hand mine over and she walks away with it... Â what? Â Where are you going with my ID? Â WHY ARE YOU SWIPING MY ID IN SOME MACHINE?! Â What is going on?! Â I wasn't aware you had to have a membership there... Â yes, folks, this still happens. Â Who knew?! Â However, I really feel like that should have been explained to me beforehand, not when she returns and I ask, "Why are you scanning our IDs?" Â Her response wasn't all that friendly. Â Moving along...
There's no real selection there of beer. Â The usual crappy Bud Light and their buddies. Â When I asked about a couple of beers, the bartender said, "There's nothing here that would be unusual or different." Â She even looked disappointed that there wasn't. Â Bummer... Â I scan the very limited spirit selection and ask if they have any cherry vodka. Â Luckily, they do.
The drink was great. Â The company was great, the people watching was AWESOME! Â Mullets, overly bleached hair, and many characters were in full effect! Â It was great!!
The smoke was to much for me though, and I had to get the heck out of there after two drinks. Â
I had a great time talking with and catching up with my old friend (which was sure as hell impossible at the Japanese Steakhouse), but the Flying Pig ins't something I'd regularly visit.
There is a story behind why we stopped here. Don't worry, I'll give you the short basic version. My boyfriend's ex-wife was a pilot. Â There you go.
So we would laugh and laugh every time we would pass by.
Then, on one rainy Sunday night, we drove by and and thought - it can't be as bad as the ex-wife!
We were right! It's a great bar with great bar food. The Happy Hour runs through the weekend, which is always a plus. I ordered the Wild West Burger and the boyfriend had the French Dip. WOW. It was definitely above average bar food. My burger had a onion ring and had a great tasting sauce. The sandwich was pure beef bliss. I also had the signature drink - the Grape Ape. Wonderful, wonderful place with awesome staff. We sat at the bar and our bartender was fantastic navigating us through the menu and drink specials. She rocked.
We will definitely be back!!
I like it! Â
Yes it's just a bar and yes it can be smoky (yuck) but it has good burgers and beer.
I like to go for lunch best when you can spread out a bit and hide from the inevitable smokers that will come in. Â If I am going to deal with the smoke, I like to play in the poker tournaments or arrive later at night after I've already had a few.
I just wish Old Town Lewisville would (could) take off like a Grapevine, that would be way cool.
The Flying Pig is a really fun bar. Its in Old Town Lewisville. They have redone the whole area so its like a new/old. This bar is very popular with bikers. They have bands, DJ's, and dart tournaments. I love darts and this place has plenty of boards! Drinks and food are reasonably priced and the onion rings are delicious! There are a lot of local Flower Moundies and Lewisvillians. Service is always speedy and accurate. There is a pretty mixed crowd. Its a 21 and up bar at night. I usually park on the street. Its one way so if you can't find a spot, just circle the block. Great for a large group or a date! Check this place out for sure!
Review Source:Its hard to right a review about the Old Town Flying Pig  Bar/Grill because Its a lot like any other bar you could go to. Its located in the middle of Old Town Lewisville which for those who don't know would be the "square" of the city.
Its a cool place to be, I went to watch a particular band. The setup of the Flying Pig is more like a restaurant with normal chairs and tables for eating which I think is pretty cool. The atmosphere is more relaxed, most of the people there was 30+ years old.
Overall I really like The Old Town Flying Pig, its a great place to go after work and drink a few brewskis. The only thing that makes it stick out compared to other bars would be the style because of its location, It describes itself as a "hometown bar". It has a strong motorcycle vibe to it. If your looking for a nice clean bar here you go.
They also have food and lunch specials, a few pool tables and free darts.
