Mainly went for the Korean food, and was... disappointed. Waitress couldn't pronounce the dishes we ordered (even giggled at the "silliness" of them.) Both dishes were prepared as if the chef had never actually eaten the dish before: most of the ingredients were in there, but it wasn't really prepared with any understanding.
Imagine a cheeseburger, cooked super well-done, on sliced bread, with broccoli and duck sauce. Sure, there's meat, bread, some veggies and a condiment, but is it really a burger? The Korea food here was prepared with about as much understanding for what makes the dish delicious. And just to be clear, the described dish is nothing like the ones we ordered (Ddeok Mandu Guk and Soon-Dubu-Jjigae)
Which, by the way, is odd because the owners are clearly Korean (as we overheard the owner going between the tables of her frequent customers.)
A similar problem also found at another nearby restaurant: stinginess with the ban chan (Korea side dishes)-- that stuff is normally free you know!
-------
We didn't try their Korean BBQ (with in-table grills and all,) and are still tempted to go back, but one main issue will keep us away.
$15 for a bottle of Soju.
Soju is NOT sake. It is NOT a high-end, fancy drink. It is not brought out in a little wine bucket. It costs about $1.50 in Korea and is consumed in excess. You do not sip it daintily-- you crack open a dozen over a long dinner with friends and drink freely (because its a cheap, easy way to get drunk.) Its a wonderful liquid.
It is not worth $15 for about 8oz. If you can't enjoy Korean BBQ with Soju, you can't enjoy Korean BBQ.
That said, this place and its sister restaurant (Nami) are the only places in the state where you can buy Soju that we've seen in all 3 years of searching. But there's a real bite at the end of each sip knowing it will cost as much as it does. And not the good kind.
I'm no sushi snob, hell I'm not even sure what I ate  but it was damn good - mango something and goofy something else rolls. Like the aspect of seeing it made - not like some publix premade crap, and this stuff actually had spice and flavors to it. Great for lunch and looking forward to trying other rolls and dinner.
Review Source:Before I even moved to SWFL, I read about Origami online. I don't know why it took me nearly a year to try it out, but now I know why it was rated so highly!
If you're not looking for it, you may miss it. It's nestled into the shipping center in the corner by the SteinMart. It doesn't seem like it will be too big from the outside but it turns out it has a ton of seating! Perfect for big parties if you're looking for a low key social dinner.
My roommate and I had a hard time narrowing down our options, because there sure are a lot of them! There is a Korean menu and a sushi one and since we were both in the mood, we opted for the latter. But that didn't make choosing an easier! There are a lot of rolls to pick from... And many of them are unlike anything I've ever seen before so it was quite an adventure.
We ended up going for three rolls and with miso soup spent about $20 each. Usually that'd seem kinda steep to me for sushi, but this was worth it. The cheapest one we got was the Bonita roll (about $8)... It had shrimp tempura and cream cheese and wasn't super special but it was made really well. We also got a Tropical roll-- that was an interesting white fish with mango! Very refreshing.
But the winner of the strangest (yet still delicious roll) was definitely the Louisiana. It was a special and about $15 but I just couldn't say no when I saw the special ingredient- garlic! Who would've thought it would be terrific on sushi? (confession: I assumed this would be the case, because there's nothing I don't like garlic on!). It had spicy tuna, cucumber and green onion wrapped inside seared tuna, roasted garlic and cilantro-- and topped off with a special sauce (drooling yet?).
The service was quick and super friendly. For whatever reason I was incredibly thirsty during my visit, but alas the server never let me go without water so I will forever appreciate her speedy refills!
Definitely a great sushi joint in Fort Myers. Far better than the boring typical and over priced rolls you find down the street at Blue.
Origami has just taken over as my favorite sushi place anywhere. I've been coast-to-coast and around the world. I've got to tell you, it doesn't get any better than Origami. As a matter of fact, I may have to go back and adjust some reviews of other sushi restaurants now!
I've been here a few times, just to confirm that it wasn't a fluke. It's NOT! Each time, the service and the food have been great!
The spicy tuna roll, the standard by which I judge sushi places, was out of this world. Fresh tuna, freshly chopped, and expertly put together to form the best spicy tuna anywhere.
Traditional sushi and sashimi, as well as Americanized sushi rolls were on hand. Some, like the one with habanero chilies, looked really interesting, and I'll be trying them shortly.
The Jap Che from the Korean menu was top-notch. The beef used was NOT the leathery strips found in most restaurants. This was the very tender variety.
Origami's decor is warm, upscale, and inviting. It makes me *want* to come back. It makes me realize that this is not just another hole-in-the-wall sushi place. Even the outdoor patio seating was well attended to by wait staff.
I'll be going back to Origami for as long as they'll still have me.
I'm commenting only on the sushi; I haven't had any of their Korean dishes.
We went there once after eating at a few other places and this became our favourite. The rolls are good, although their special rolls also feature a lot of cream cheese. Their sashimi also seemed fairly good. My husband is a yellowtail fan, and so always orders it sashimi; and it was good.
We went there a second time, and still had a lovely experience with their rolls. However, this time the sashimi yellowtail was old and left a very unfavourable aftertaste in my mouth. It took all of my concentration to swallow and not gag at the table.
Perhaps, this should warrant it a one-star rating, however, the service was good and I feel I should give them another chance. I have not been back and I have since found Daruma, which has always exceeded my expectations. It is difficult to return to a restaurant that almost made me sick when I am guaranteed a good experience elsewhere. I just think I need more time to forget my last experience.
My finacee and I were excited to find korean bbq in Fort Myers and even more excited to see that the restaurant stayed open later than we expected.
The restaurant is in a strip mall and could easily be missed if you aren't looking. The restaurant had great ambiance and the staff was super friendly and attentive.
The best part about this restaurant is the korean bbq. It is authentic bbq - one of the best we've had - with great side dishes. We were thrilled to find a high quality korean bbq restaurant in Fort Myers and will be back frequently!
This place is a combination of Korean and Japanese foods. Â It's tucked away in a strip mall and has an interesting decor with a modern looking bars and old looking tables. Â
The Sashimi and Sushi was tasty and the Korean BBQ was good aswell. Â
If you are going with the Korean BBQ you have the option to cook it yourself which is half the fun. Â Don't be shy your server will help you cook and by help I mean to say they will do most of the cooking. Â The staff was very friendly and in addition the owner checked in on us twice. Â I also noticed the owner greeting people as they came in and asking how specific members of their families were which impressed me. Â While not crowded this placr seems tonhave a devoted following.
I strongly recommended the Beef Bulgogi. Â It is the best meat to cook Korean BBQ style and it was the best part of the meal.
Other diners in my party got a fish dish which was well liked and the Bento Box which was also a hit. Â The Benton Box lets you get Sushi and BBQ without havin to cook it. Â The three people I went with loved Origami I just might have higher standards for Korean BBQ/Japanese food. Â With that being said it is still a good place to east just a bit pricey for what it is.
I was excited to eat some Korean food since I have been traveling for several weeks in a row. I called ahead of time, made sure they have a decent menu and went.
The Korean menu had about 10 different dishes, however the prices were higher than NYC or LA. I passed and decided to eat sushi because I didn't want to spend $18 on a simple dish.
The sushi was good, above average and good selection. 3/5
Service was good. 3/5.
All in all, it was OK. Nothing spectacular, nothing super special.
However, if your looking to eat some rolls, this may be one of the better places in Ft. Myers.
I give this 5 stars for the sushi bar. The owner/chef is from Tokyo and has lived in the states for the last 20 years; his sushi is fresh and has excellent presentation. Origami offers delicious nigiri sushi (for us traditionalists) but offers a wide range of specialty roles for those who prefer more of an "Asian fusion" experience. The selection is wide and the prices reasonable. Â Oishi-des...
Review Source:My husband and I were in town visiting a friend and I wanted sushi. The sushi was ok. I had the kami kami? And it was a little  fishier than I would have preferred. My other roll the premium Cali was awesome though. We had the dumplings as an app and those were tasty. My husband didntget sushi he instead got some sort of thinly sliced beef(we forget the name) and it was the bomb! He def got the best and most filling of all our plates. The service was slacking which makes me sad since they weren't busy. I would go back though but I might not get the sushi.
Review Source:De-lish. Hands down my favorite sushi place in town and I've been to a few. Yes, I know, its located in a shopping center, surrounded by not so note worthy stores, but that makes it even more of a hidden gem!
Service is attentive and friendly, prices are fair, and the food is FAB and very fresh! I went with a friend. We ordered 2 salads, 4 rolls (if you like tuna the monster roll is heaven), a glass of wine, and a 16 oz sapporo. The bill was $50! To me that seems very fair. In addition to the sushi, the Korean menu is also very good. Lots of variety and very authentic. Bento boxes are a must. Â The place has always been busy when I've dined there, even during the week nights. If there is a wait, the sushi bar is an excellent spot for couples or if you're flying solo. Ambiance is basic but comfortable and welcoming.
A pleasant experience every time.
This is a very nice Korean restaurant. I think it's one of the best restaurants in the Fort Myers area. The food and service are both excellent and the ambiance is quite pleasant.
Why not 5 stars? Well, the food is about 4 1/2, but the hidden location in a dying mall is a bummer and the food is a tad overpriced.
This remains a great place for lunch or a special occasion dinner.
I just had lunch there and I was impressed by the food and ambience. Â This place is a little gem tucked away in a strip mall. The price is reasonable especially if you go there during lunch. Â I had the bento box lunch special which you can pick any two items from about 10-items. Â I chose the spicy pork (Korean) and Salmon/Tuna Sushi (one piece each). It comes with Soup and Salad as well for about $10. Â The sushi is fresh and the spicy pork is good but not as spicy as I would expect. Â They also have Korean dishes but not the full-blown Korean (with all the side dishes and etc.).
Overall, it is still pretty good for Fort Myers area. Â Where I am from in Philly, we have excellent Korean BBQ place and I have yet to find anything like in SW Fla.
