The staff is very friendly and it's a nice place for locals and visitors alike, but the food's not great and the drink prices aren't overly good. Â It's a basic pub with the standard menu (drinks and food alike) but what makes O'Rourke's special is that the staff is always attentive and friendly and they chat you up without being annoying. Â Every time I go, they're very nice and good with the service. Â O'Rourkes also has a great patio that you can enjoy when the weather's good!
When looking at options for a quite drink in Pawtuxet Village, O'Rourke's is probably my favorite spot.
We stopped here for lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Â Note that in poor weather you have to enter using the side door instead of the front. People were sitting at all sections of the bar and at one table in the back, but it was definitely not packed. Â The crowd at 1 pm was older and it seemed to be mostly regulars and neighborhood locals who all knew each other.
The food portions were hefty. Â I had the clam chowder and an order of potato skins. Â The size of the clam chowder was standard, but the potato skins had 6 gigantic potato skins! Â They were nice and crispy with a good amount of bacon. Â My only complaint is that they had too much cheese on them. Â (But they still were great!) Â My husband had the shaved steak sandwich. Â It was slightly overcooked, but it was very tasty. Â The portions was huge and he was unable to finish his plate.
Overall, it was a nice place for lunch and we'll probably be back in the future.
O'Rourke's has some terrific features. Â Its got a great location along the Pawtuxet River estuary and right at the Cranston border, seconds from the heart of Pawtuxet Village. Â And its a nice looking place, with decent drink selections, nice bartenders, and good pub food. Â The burger, fish and chips and the Irish Nachos are terrific. Â And if you have a private party, the upstairs is very nice. Â I'd love to see them open that full time as a lounge.
Unfortunately, there's no parking, the food options are limited to mostly fried foods, the menu haven't really changed in the years its been open, and the waitresses are a little flighty. Â
So while I enjoy it, I don't go back nearly as often as I might with some minor tweaks on their part.
I was pleased that after what seemed to be an eternity that the site of the former "Gaspee Lounge" was replaced with this fairly decent structure. Â The pub food is okay, but I agree with others, it is not really an Irish pub. Â So if it is an Irish pub only in name, that wants to serve food, a few healthy alternatives would be appreciated. Â The bartenders are the only staff that seem to be able to keep up with the customers.
Review Source:I give two stars just for the entertainment. The service was very slow. Our drinks arrived soon enough but the food didn't come for probably at least 45 minutes.During that time, listening to the Irish trio that was playing made the wait tolerable. In fact, it was enjoyable. We sat on the outside terrace. When the food finally came out, the order was wrong. I ordered a tuna BLT wrap (one of the specials) but was served a turkey melt (another special). The waitress took it back and returned about 15 minutes later with the tuna BLT sans the bacon. There wasn't more than a handfull of fries. I expected the meal to be taken off the menu, but no way. The menu is very limited, mostly appetizers, salads and sandwiches. The draft beers are limited too - about 5 or 6. My advice is to order a couple of drinks, listen to the music, and eat elsewhere.
Review Source:I feel like I am being picky, I am handing out a lot of 3 stars lately but really guys, places are just not working hard enough to impress me. I love the village, Pawtuxet Village is part of my childhood. Gaspee days, Dear Hearts, come on!!! This is a smaller bar with a nice outdoor seating section. The service was god awful though. It took forever to get menus and then forever for the waitress to come back and see if we wanted to actually eat anything. Go to drink, you will be better off. The nachos were however delicious and made with kettle cooked chips and potatoes and oh man I almost increased this review just based on them. Almost... I will however go back because there is something about an Irish Pub in the this area doing well that is important to me. I hope next time around I can say I love it.
Review Source:I came in a few weeks ago on a Saturday night around 8:30. Â It wasn't that busy and there was a guy on an acoustic guitar. Â We got bar seats in the back corner and ordered a few beers. So far so good. Â We ordered the Irish Nachos and settled in. Â
This is where it went off the rails. Â Some obnoxious super drunk young kid and his gf came in and sat right next to us. Â This kid was terrible. Â The whole time this kid is yelling, singing (not the songs the guy was playing) and banging his hand on the bar. Â The whole place was staring at him in disbelief. Â Now, I understand this isn't the O'Rourke's fault, but the bartender proceeded to serve him 6 Jack on the rocks in about an hours time. Â Unacceptable. Â I am all for getting nuts on the weekends but this was neither the place or time. Â It was 9pm and the crowd was mostly older folks.
The nachos were good but the toppings were all heaped on top so we were left with a big pile of dry chips. Â Not good chip to topping ratio. Â I'd probably stop back if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to go here.
O'Rourke's is an Irish Pub in name only. There is really nothing Irish about this place. The best part about the place is the fact that you can sit outside on the patio in the summer and enjoy some drinks. The food is ok, although they are always out of something on the menu, always. The service is always a little slow, though friendly. The selection of draft beer is just plain bad, come on give me at least one micro brew.
Review Source:Went to O'Rourke's for after dinner drinks... Inside at the bar area was full so, we sat on the patio which was charming especially with the small waterfall across the street. We had high hopes until we met our waitress.... (insert horror movie suspense music here...)
Since this was our first visit to O'Rourke's we asked for a drink menu and the waitress said... "Ah, sorry... we don't have one." we got no suggestions or anything of the sort for what to try, then she just stared at us... I asked what they had on tap, and she rattled off several beers. I picked my old stand by, Sam Summer. The mister asked what kind of brandy they had and the waitress had no clue. Her response was "I'll check and be right back." Roughly 5-7 minutes goes by, the waitress comes back and says... "Well, we have Cognac, Cavoss... something, and the house one. Which would you like?" He ended up ordering some whiskey as he was still unable to determine what kind of brandy they actually had... a couple of more minutes goes by and the Sam Summer came out (sans the lemon which traditionally accompanies the drink). She dropped the drink off then ran away quickly so i was unable to ask for the lemon until the mister's whiskey came out...
Over 45 minutes start to finish for 1 drink each seems pretty unreasonable. Luckily, we flagged down the hostess for our check otherwise it would have been longer. The waitress really ruined our experience here. She looked overwhelmed, had a scowl on her face, and generally disinterested in being there.
Pros: There was another waitress working the opposite end of the patio who was bright, bubbly, and attentive. (No wonder why her section was full.) The natural setting of the patio section was nice as well.
Cons: 2 drinks came to $13+ tip and the service was horrible. Drinks were also served in plastic cups which was a little underwhelming. I don't think we were the only people unimpressed about the waitresses lack luster personality as the other wait staff were talking about her. (We sat close to the Oyster bar where they were congregating and overheard.)
In looking at the other reviews for this establishment it appears this wasn't a fluke. I won't be returning.
I want to give this place a 4star but it just needs something. I have been a few times now and I like it I do! Great old building on the water, Irish theme, kind of small selection on the  beer choices but not horrible choices. I have never had bad service here but the staff isn't as ongoing as I thought they would be. The food is pub grub greasy pub grub nothing more. It looks so inviting from the outside but seem kind of stiff inside. I will go here from time to time but would go a lot more if a few more beers were on tap, the food was brought up a notch and the staff were a bit more out going.
Review Source:Nice because it's convenient to the area/water. Cute for a date not really for the kids though they were polite/nice about us having our baby with. We sat outside (there is smoking allowed-yuck), great for people watching. Food was good, sweet potato fries were great and so was steak sandwich. Prices are to be expected as you are by the water its middle of the road not pricey not cheap (8-14 sandwich)
Review Source:I have such good associations with our local pub. Â It was at O'Rourke's that my husband and I decided last December we wanted to make an offer on our house in Pawtuxet Village. Â We have been back many times since.
Perfect for drafts, pub grub, and some sun on the outdoor patio in the summer (should it ever arrive in 2011!). Â If you're going to try for outside on a nice day, you should be there by 4:15, or you'll be waiting until the sun's down.
OK Pub Grub. OK atmosphere. Service was good, We sat at the bar, I think you get a better drink there!. I had the whole fried clams -very good and a VERY large portion. My buddies had Shepherds Pie, Garlic WIngs (crispy and yummy), homemade potato chips with homemade salsa and all were happy with selections. Bartender was attentive on a gray Saturday afternoon. Mix of locals, fancy boys, and old time drinkers. I would go back for the outdoor dining. nice patio. Not a go-out-of-my-way-for-place, but decent. I did not experience the neglect or attitude others have written about., Lobster Roll was also a big hit. The specials list had a number of interesting items - not sure how often it changes though. 3 stars is fair I think
Review Source:Ugh. I just don't have anything good to say other than I like the bathroom.
I had chowder, not good. Service is very unprofessional (bartender was arguing with a waitress who was sitting at the bar drinking on her night off, I heard it all!) and the crowd isn't what I'm into.
The place looks good on the outside but I'd rather stay home.
There's always a gathering outside O'Rourkes in the summer, especially when it's a live music night.
If you're eating, try the grilled cheese with sweet potato fries and malt vinegar!
When the live music is indoors it can be a little loud. I agree with Dani G that it seems a little short-staffed.
Not great. I live nearby and was hopeful about the investment they made in this location, essentially gutting the whole building. But it lacks any real character as a result. The food is "meh". Not terribly expensive, but not great quality either. The only time I've been back is when it's a nice day and you can sit outside with a drink. The Irish Nachos aren't too bad, but not worth a special trip.
Review Source:This is a great place, very comfortable great feel when you enter. The people that go there are very friendly and easy going. Great food, the stuffies are amazing way better than McCormick and Schmicks! The Rib eye sandwich is either the second best or possibly best steak sandwich I've ever had. It's just under $10 too. On some nights there are live bands . Every time I go there i feel like this ought to be out of a movie scene... great food, great place... enjoy
Review Source:Excellent atmosphere I have been there half a dozen times from 2008 until now. Â Newly added bar with fireplace upstairs. Menu changes and seems to have been updated. Â I recommend "irish nacho's" which are fresh fried potato chips instead of nachos piled high with all the usual nacho additions. Â Corned beef was very good. Â The drinks are awesome, I love a bar that asks if you want a "Tall"!!!!
Review Source:O'Rourke's is a cute little Irish pub in Pawtuxet Village ..it has live music on several nights which is a plus as they usually have good performers.
They have the usual suspects on draft...the downfall i've found is the food. The taste of the food is good, but the portions over the last year have grown smaller. When they first opened a couple of years ago the Corned beef sandwich was three fingers high..my last two visits was one. I don't mind paying a higher price if thhings go up as they are in the industry...i just feel cheated when I am still hungry after paying for a sandwich...that's why i'm not going back.
Umm....no.
Thats all i have to say. It is cute inside and I think that the establishment means well...but they do not have enough staff to cover the capacity. One waiter...his name was Sean..and I have to say I don't even blame him because he started off his introduction with a funny.."My name is Sean and later tonight when you get angry at me you can call me(and he yells) SEAN" Ha Ha...lttle did I know...i'd be feeling like yelling.
It was a Friday and the placed filled up quickly. Sean was covering 12 tables and he didn't seem to have a system...some were waiting for drinks for a long time while others who had come in after were already getting their food. I realized pretty early on that in order to move your experience along you just had to be outspoken and get Sean's attention. I observed other tables not to do that and they sat with their menus for the entire time I was in the restaurant.
The food was mediocre and the prices were reasonable. Sorry Sean, I am sure you are a nice guy but you need to know when to ask for assistance...I actually thought about getting up there to help because it was painful to watch...nobody walked out and nobody seemed to become escalated...this may be the norm for the Pawtuxet village dining scene???? I may try out the local restaurants again but I will not re-enter O'Rourke's .
