Great beer selection, reasonable prices with happy hour specials.  They always have beer on tap that are difficult to find elsewhere.

The bartenders are very friendly and helpful.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and good for conversation.

The selection of alcohol is out of this world good!  The atmosphere, is nice and relaxed but the chairs aren't that comfortable.  The staff was very helpful when I really could not decide on what to get, had good suggestions.  This place is not overpriced at all, very much that hole in the wall place you will come to love.

Best part about this place:  they have Don De Dieu, brewed by Unibroue.  Nice, chill little place with an extensive beer and liquor list.  A new favorite!

I just love, love, love this place.  We come here all the time, seeking refuge after long work days, and we can always find something to drink here.  How could you not?  Even when I was a beer-hating scum, I could still find enough variety in their selection of hard ciders (not to mention liquors) to properly inebriate me, although that seems to have dwindled a bit.  I don't know if I'm just not looking anymore, but I am pretty sure they used to feature a different large bottle of Crispin's gourmet flavors almost monthly, and I haven't seen that in a long while.  But like I said, I'm on to beer now, so it could be that I just don't look for it anymore.

I really like the atmosphere of Palm, especially when compared to its sister bar on Lincoln.  For some reason, even when it's a busy weekend night, we have never had trouble finding a place to sit.  The music is chill, the boobs are perky (I'm sure someone has mentioned these but seriously - an art installation of breasts?  I can't think of anything cooler than that), and the seating is appropriately mixed so I can always find somewhere to sit that appeals to my sensibilities.

There is a particularly morbid art piece hanging in the alcove with the high tables, entailing the life and death of a chicken.  It fascinates me.

I really love the bartender team there.  I am sure there must be someone else who works there, but I have never seen him.  It's always this duo when I go in, or one of them by himself, and they are both equally friendly and knowledgeable.  Regrettably I don't know their names, but they do recognize us by now, so they don't card me anymore which is nice.  I guess I should feel happy that I still look young enough to be carded with some frequency - I mean, I'm really not that old - but sometimes I forget my ID and then it gets awkward and we have to go home and everyone is upset.

So, that's dramatic.  Anyway, go to Palm!  You'll find something you like!  You'll see cool art!  You'll read weird magazines in the bathroom and wash your hands in the sink outside!  It's the best!

The Palm Tavern is one of the best hidden gems in Bay View! A friendly bar staff and incredible bourbon list. The dimly lit atmosphere and chilled out volume makes this place an awesome daily hangout or late night meetup. Unassuming, artsy and nothing short of a socially good time.

I've been a frequent patron of this establishment for as long as I can recall.  So, let's begin by providing you with a break down.  Let's hope I don't get too long winded on my first review. :)

    1. COZY.   I love to go out for drinks here with a small group of friends,  as this place only seats about 40.  But, rarely are more seats needed (in a good way).  Part of the charm of this place is that it is a cozy place to imbibe and converse.  The dim lighting will make it easier to rid of some of the distractions of life, that and the strong likelihood that your cell phone won't work in here.  I've drained far to many cell phone batteries letting my phone look for a tower... JUST TURN IT OFF and have a good time. :)

    2. HUGE SELECTION.  This establishment is centered around SELECTION of drinks.  Selection drives up price a little bit, but draws in the crowd that is looking for whatever may fancy them at any given moment.  A drink binder is offered to patrons to help them make a choice.  Within is a comprehensive list of 24 rotating beer taps, both large and small format beers from all parts of the world, pages upon pages of spirits of about 50 each (gin, vodka, whisky, whiskey, cordials, rum, tequila), wine, mead, and non-alcoholic.  And, they make some mean cocktails too.  If you can't find what you're looking for, you should be able to find a suitable substitute.

    3. ATMOSPHERE.  An eclectic mix of music from bands that you likely have never heard of plays in the background to fill the void.  It is low volume, as to allow patrons to talk.  This ain't your frat boy bar looking to get loaded and score, so "drunks" need not apply!  This is a place where the bartenders know your name, your drink (or lack of consistency), and everyone around you is having a good time.  More so, being here is like hanging out at home.  There's even an odd mix of art throughout the bar.

    4. AMENITIES.  There is an ATM. They now accept credit/debit cards. There are some reading materials if you are bored (which isn't likely).

    5.  SPECIALS/HAPPY HOUR.  Yeah, this place has some specials... $3 off the large format beers on certain nights of the week (I don't recall when, but I think it is Sun-Tues).  $1 off tap beers before 8 PM.  There may be others, but I dunno off the top of my head.

    6. OTHER THINGS OF NOTE.  The bathroom sink is outside the bathroom... just so everyone can watch you. :)  Also, finding this place can be difficult, even with a GPS.  Easier to look for Lee's Luxury Lounge and look directly across the street for a small neon light in a window.

Palm Tavern is one of my favorite places for a variety of reasons, including a few sentimental. It is not the easiest place to find. If you are looking for a great beverage list, moderate volumes, dim lighting and knowledgeable/friendly staff - you will be nothing short of delighted when you find the unassuming entrance door. If you're looking for flavored vodka, bombers and $1 tallboys - you may choose to frequent other watering holes.

Dark - cool art - nice people - tasty beverages. It pleases me.

Other points of note: Don't be alarmed, the sink is outside of the restroom. That means everyone can tell if you wash your hands or not too. Just saying...you know who you are. It is also small, so maybe not the best place for you and your twenty closest friends. Stick with "besties" only.

Good for expensive beers and drink selection.   A classy place disguised as a dive. Nothing to see but seats and liquor. 4 pages of unique beer but little atmosphere.

Stopped in after reading about the extensive drink list at The Palm Tavern on Yelp.  And people aren't kidding.  Don't drop it on your foot or you might break a bone.

I was in town for work with my boyfriend and wanted to check out as many places as we could, so we just had one drink.  He asked for a beer recommendation and got something he didn't care for, but it happens.  I asked for a Moscow Mule and got a disapproving look from the bartender.  He mixed me up something else that he thought was similar, but...it was a little too vanilla-y for me.

Definitely liked the vibe of this place.  If I lived in town, I'd definitely check it out again.

It is really difficult to find, though.  I think we drove past it 3 times before we parked and just started looking for addresses.  Keep that in mind if you're not familiar with the area.

    LIKE LIKE LIKE

Hi I'm Shane and I like this place!

It's the perfect cozy-sized place to cozy up with a cozy friend...or DATE? Whatever that is. (blows cloud of dust off date hat)

First and foremost, beers! These guys have it! A lot of it! I know it can be pretty intimidating if you are not a beer drinker, to talk to a bartender that lives and breathes beer (and somehow does it without dying!) but, I have found the bartenders here to be patient and helpful. They want you to enjoy whatever you end up ordering, so don't be afraid to rattle off some tastes you like, and some you don't. They will pair you up with a tasty thing!

Aside from beers, they also mix cocktails like a boss, and have a wine selection, if that is yo thang.

Go on and get awesome at The Palm!

    UPDATE:

I now live much closer to the Palm Tavern than I did previously and I couldn't be happier about it. I'm like a pig in you know what. I still adore absolutely everything about this amazing beer/whiskey bar -- the extensive and impressive selection, the attentive and super-nice bar staff, and the cozy, dimly-lit and seriously intimate ambiance.

    I moved, and I win.

One of my favorite bars, they have an awesome selection of foreign beers and are starting to have more american craft beer on tap. They have 25 taps along with a binder full of bottled beer, whiskey, and other craft liqueurs. The place is pretty small and usually is not very busy. Great place for a before dinner drink or to take a date.

Easily my favorite bar in the city. People who think Lowlands group has good beer lists should definitely come here! The beer list is light years better and the prices are actually reasonable. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. Not sure what beer or cocktail to go with, just ask as it seems like they're familiar with all of their product. Was in last night and was pondering a vodka drink so I inquired about the Hanger One Pear Spiced vodka not really expecting the bartender to know much about a random selection off the menu. Instead he brought me the bottle, told me about the Hanger One tasting room series and accurately described the taste.

Also, Rachel, I checked and they do have Blanton bourbon. :P

This is totally one of those places I want as my corner bar (Maybe I'll ask Santa next year to grant more liquor license in WFB!).  No seriously.  Okay, maybe I don't because I would become the World's Biggest Most Annoying Beer Snob.  Because I'm pretty sure I would have no problems sitting at this lovely bar every day getting schooled (albeit schnockered!!) by the bartender in beer knowledge.  I would be a very good student, I promise.  I would sit quietly, listen attentively and consume LOTS of amazing craft beer (Int'l and national).  I may even take notes and pictures.  I would drink and drink...er I mean study and study.

Holy Shizzz.....Why haven't I been here before?  This place is so cool.

We scored a seat at the bar, which is the place to be at The Palm.  Mister ordered a beer called Soft Christmas made by a brewery called Evil Twin out of Denmark and it about knocked me off my bar stool it was so delicious.  Think:  Oh my god, I'm drinking a chocolate covered cherry.  But not in a gross, sugary, and way too sweet way but more in a smooth, decadent and oh so addicting way.

I loved everything this place from the red crown molding to the patrons in the bar to the bartender himself.  Everything was top notch.  The vibe is cool without having that  "trying hard to be cool" kind of way either.... Just a laid back vibe that makes you want to stay awhile and settle in for the evening.  The drink menu is in a binder- I told you they mean business- and the liquor selection is completely out of control (in the best way.)  They specialize in Scotch so they have about 4 pages of kick ass Scotch--actually they have about a page worth of every type liquor.  If you want to impress someone with good liquor and beer selection, take them here.

Our city is so lucky to have this little gem.  I'm crazy in love.

You know you've found a beer-lovers' mecca when you ask the bar tender what's on tap and they hand you a three-ringed binder! This place is small, but on the Saturday night I went was not too crowded and still relatively easy to hear a conversation. It's a perfect place to chat with friends who likewise appreciate a good brew, take relatives from out of town or a date. There is seating at small tables, larger group tables or of course the bar. Love love this place!

One tip, it can be hard to find at night even with a GPS because their sign *IS* their door and it's not well lit. It's almost right across the street from Lee's Luxury Lounge. Just park on the West side of KK between Trowbridge and Rush and walk towards Rusk.  You'll walk by it! It actually took me 2 attempts to find the place.

I like my bars like I like my men- dimly lit and full of beer.  The Palm Tavern is a perfect match.  Good thing we hooked up via my favorite bar-dating website- Yelp.

On our Milwaukee beer bar excursion, this was a must.  Being a Wednesday night, there were only a couple other patrons inside when we arrived.  It was super dark in there-almost candle-lit atmosphere.  Very inviting.  The beer and liquor selection is very unique and impressive.  I learned that DogFish Head makes Rum!

I wish we stayed longer, but after a full meal, the Rasberry Tart and Hop Infusion did us in.  We had to head back to the hotel for a recharge.  The bartender was awesome to talk to and he even bought us our beers since we were out of town-ers!  Good people.  I felt bad leaving.

P.S.  I love that the sink is outside of the bathroom!  Everyone will know if you don't wash your hands you dirty dog.

    Palm Tavern= Love.

I love Belgian beer so this place is an instant win in my book.

This is definitely my type of place.  It's small, dark, laid-back, and quiet.  There are no TV's, which is the way a bar should be.  No annoying blaring sports TV's, no shitty blaring music, no dumb drunk jocks, no jaeger bombs or any shit like that.  It lets you focus on your beer and your company.  Although I would happily drink here by myself and stare into space [update 11/9/12... I have done this many times and it rules].

It's nice to sit and talk with friends and drink some of the best beer in the world.  The atmosphere can't be beat.

Saison DuPont on draft... I'm in.  The beer selection is everything you've heard.  It focuses on Belgians which is fantastic.  There is also a staggering selection of whiskies if that's your thing.

I haven't really interacted with the bartenders much beyond ordering a beer and going back to my table, but service has been all right so far.  The bar is small and I haven't had the opportunity to belly up to it yet but there is additional seating and it's comfortable.

Considering the beer being served, prices are not bad.   I'd rather drink here than Centraal any day.

I know the writeup says this place isn't good for dancing, but I did the electric slide after seeing the beer menu (it's electric).  After settling on an apple lambic, I enjoyed an awesome conversation with a great friend of mine.  It's nice to be able to concentrate on your drink and the company you keep without 8 HDTVs blasting ESPN in your ear.

No matter your vice the Palm has you covered, I also love the selection of local brews and spirits.

If I could design a bar it would be like this.  I think Anthony Bourdain needs to bring his skinny, chain smoking butt back to MKE and check out this gem.

Hands down, best micro brew selection in the city.  The staff is knowledgeable and the beer is fantastic.  Definitely not a I'm with my bro's cruising down water street looking to get punchy drunk place (if that's your thing?).  Laid back atmosphere best enjoyed with close friends.

I'm sometimes so excited to go to palm that I fear that I will break the door off it's hinges on my way in.  The bartenders are top notch and very knowledgeable about everything from the extensive beer list to the Operation: Whiskey Drop that landed behind the bar.  Every time I stop in, they have a unique beer on tap that I never tried (increasingly difficult as I consider myself an accomplished drinker of craft/belgian beers).  Their whiskey list is absolutely ridiculous, and could very easily give a scotch drinker a stroke.

Such a unique and intiment place. Going here for the first time on a Saturday night I expected the place to be absolutely packed. We were surprised when we walked in and the place was half empty. It filled up eventually but I would have thought a place like this would be eternally packed.

The beer selection was great. Not a mind blowing amount of taps (hence the -1 star) but still a good amount and what they did have was very diverse. What was really cool was the selection in the bottle. The have a very nice selection there.

The bartenders were great, very friendly and very knowledgable. The cool thing about this place was the atmosphere though. Just a great small place to go and have some good craft beer. If you're into the hard stuff you won't be disappointed either. No big screens no crazy loud annoying music, just good beer and good people. Check this place out.

When I walked in with a small group, I felt almost as if I'd disrupted the quietude of the place - there was music, and there was dialogue elsewhere in the bar, but almost like arriving to a performance just as it gets underway, we wanted to settle in and take our seats out of respect for the environment.  And the bar really does feel like you're witnessing a performance - before you sits a veritable pipe organ of brown spirits; I half expected our bartender to crack his knuckles and loosen his hands before he touched the bottles, like a concert pianist.  That respectful treatment of alcohol and knowledgeable bar-tending were right at home with so many options in so cocktail-focused a place as this.  We enjoyed our conversation with the bartender, amongst ourselves, and occasionally not talking and simply soaking it all in.  You can concentrate on your drink here, which isn't what you want in every venue - but it's nice to have a haven for fine spirit enjoyment when the inventory they have is so worth perusing.

    Excellent..

The Palm is an intimate bar with an unparalleled selection of whiskeys and continental beers.

They keep about fifteen brews on tap, and rotate through an amazing selection. They really go out on a limb to stock varietals that you don't see often: lambics, ales, bocks, belgian tripels, and mead blends. How great is it that you can just hop down Kk and have one of these liquid treats set if front of you?

And if you are not into that cornucopia of brewing, they have The Binder of other options. A quick perusal will tell you that you also have access to an unprecedented choice of whiskeys: pages of Scotch, bourbon, rye, you name it. Staggering, possibly scary.

But a list of beverages doesn't make a bar; a trip up Water Street would find a couple of bars with lots of options. What puts The Palm on the map is the vibe here. Dim, warm, black leather, attentive bartenders, and a hum of conversation that doesn't lead to shouting. A recent discovery for me that I'll be coming back to often.

The word on the Palm Tavern was that a Chicago Okka Disk record label head and expat came up and opened this place in Bay View and I must say it had a very Chicago-Wicker Park feel, but way more laid back. It is almost cozy. The bartender was professional and very nice, but not annoying like some of the Chicago beer snobs can be. Nice chilled out atmosphere.

One odd thing about Bay View was that on the weekends it seems that it is infested with Chicago "Milwaukee Weekend" people. My mom has a business in Bay View and I am a South Sider so it is funny to see the area booming considering that when I lived in Riverwest and the East Side, it was hard to get folks down south of the downtown unless they were going to Rush-Mor records or the long gone Cabaret Voltaire to see a punk show.

Beer list: Great stuff on tap and a respectable and well organized bottle list.

Tips: #15 Bus goes between the East Side/UWM and South Milwaukee and goes right past.

If I moved from Chicago to my hometown of Milwaukee, I would open a bar just like this one!

One of the very few downsides to being pregnant is not being able to visit the Palm at least once a month.  The focus of this cozy tavern is BEER & DRINKS.   It isn't about music, art, or some scene. It is about cozy conversations around an extensive selection of beers and whiskeys with a few friends over simple tables. If you are looking for some loud, bumpin' place with loads of tables, with a waitress who has no idea what the difference is between a bourbon and whiskey and can't name her favorite top ten microbreweries-  then head over to the Milwaukee Ale House for a more corporate experience. But If you are looking for a quaint local joint dedicated to helping you discover that perfect brew or mix while you sit back and hash out the latest in politics, Plato's Symposium, your seasonal crush, or more simply where your going to head out for dinner- this is the place with supporting.

This place is cozy and the selection cannot be beat. They spoil me with their selection of lambics. My favorite: Lindemann's peach. I suppose this place could be considered pricey, but the wide selection of really special brews justifies that. When we went it was really, really dark inside - we kept having to use our cell phones to read the menu!

As I continue my quest to explore more of Milwaukee, this was my first taste of Bayview, and would like to give more stars but not sure what for.  This place impressed me, but to some degree it didn't.  It definately escalated my interest in exploring the area, but I may not return here for awhile - it's too dark and personal, with an impersonal surrounding.  I don't want the my bar to be a place where I'd take a date, but the Palm Tavern seemed to fit this bill too much.

There's not enough seating or space to move about and socialize, if people actually do that at this bar, I don't know.  It was not a busy night, but I wonder how anti-social it would be when it is busy...  It also appears to be a place that caters to its local clientele, though it probably doesn't stay as nice and cozy on Friday and Saturday nights - I already know that I wouldn't want to be here then.  No doubt they have great beers, they just seems inaccessable without any psudo-waitstaff or more bar space.  It might just be the way it wants to be, so I won't suggest what it do, I'll just go looking elsewhere to guzzle some craft beer and have a good time.

    EDIT

I'm still not Yay! I'm a fan... but I'm not very fanatical anyway.  Went here again on Wednesday night and was very chill, still extremely dark, but was able to enjoy a dank brew in company & comfort.  Was even able to chat it up with the bartender for an enjoyment I didn't expect.  This place is just very moody I guess, and I don't live close enough to drown my sorrows, so cheer up charlie...

Unique, small, intimate, high quality, with an excellent selection of liquor and beer.  Ask to see the huge list of beer and liquor- it is quite impressive.  Probably my favorite bar in Milwaukee.  I'm glad I don't live closer or I'd probably develop a serious drinking problem.

The only drawback to Palm is that it is there is sometimes limited seating, but it is well worth stopping in.

They are non-smoking, which is great.

Perhaps my favorite tavern in all of Milwaukee.  It's small, cozy, stylish but not pretentious, and has the best selection of beer anywhere.  And now it's smoke free--I didn't think they could make the Palm Tavern better, but they did!

Nice selection of music and great drinks--this is recommended place to hook up with friends and unwind.

The perfect bar? Laid back, friendly, low key, good music on at a low enough volume to allow for good conversation. Intimate, not smokey, nice but not pretentious. No big screen TVs, friendly proprietors with a passion for great beer. A list of beers and liquors so thorough it's presented in a binder. An impressive array of Belgian and other European beers served on tap.

The Palm Tavern just might be the perfect bar.

Nice little high end beer bar on Milwaukee's south side.  A little hard to find with little signage, and not much of a tore front - we drove right past it the first time.

While here, a fellow told me he thought the owner used to work at Hopleaf in Chicago.  That would explain the fantastic beer list, and the different unique glassware for every beer.  It is low lit with almost a wine bar feel, but the LARGE beer list won't let you forget you're here for the brews.  Lots of Belgians and a healthy list of microbrews.  If I lived in Milwaukee, I would be a regular.

A friend recently introduced me to the Palm Tavern, and I must say I adore this place.  The atmosphere is definitely chill and the clientele and bartenders are quite friendly.  Besides any place that has Bust in the ladies room is A-OK by me. They have a BINDER that lists their beers and liquor.  What shines here is their wide selection of beer, specifically Belgian beer. Fortunately, a lot of their brew's alcohol content is listed in the binder as well.  This bar would be a great place to spend your evening or at least pop in to share a 750 ml of amazing Belgian imported goodness.
