TERRIBLE customer service! Â I tried to order dinner for delivery on a Saturday night and the first time I called, I got an answering machine. Â The second time I called, I was put on hold for 4 minutes, and then was disconnected. Â The third time I called, I was told it would be an hour wait for delivery. Â When I gave my address, I was told I was not within the delivery zone. Â According to their website, they deliver for free within three miles. Â I'm visiting my father at a retirement community and they won't deliver here, , even though the address is within the three miles of their location. Â They couldn't give me a reason as to why it is our of their delivery zone. Â Maybe they discriminate against senior citizens. Â After reading the reviews, I was really looking forward to trying the food, but I guess they don't want business from retired people. Â Ridiculous.
Review Source:Whoa! Did not know what to expect from this little joint before I walked in, but the first thing I noticed was the fast and friendly service. I got a big smile from both of the women behind the counter and they let me know I could sit anywhere. I ordered the chicken Parmesan and my friend ordered the pasta primavera - huge portions!!! The food was delicious, too! I just could not stop eating. The red sauce was fantastic!! Very fresh and not greasy like some places. And I'm not even supposed to eat gluten or lactose...it was just that good!!!!
Now let's talk about the salad dressing. The vinaigrette is made in-house and it is AWESOME. I almost ordered ranch but our server, Emily, tipped me off to the house dressing. What a great suggestion!! I almost bought a pint (they sell it there!) but didn't have a way to store it.
Emily was lovely, serving us with a smile and always looking out for our needs. A+ service. Would come back any time I'm in the area.
My love of Papou's started out slowly, I got some pretty damn good pizza, every time. Consistency is hard but they nailed it. Then one day I discovered their manicottis, and my life is forever changed. So good....oh so good. Until I went in the place and noticed it was a dive pizza joint and then I was like oh, wtf? Who would of guessed this amazing pizza/calzones and manicottis come from this place. Then I had the garlic cheese bread and my eyes were open to this new realm of possibilities of what delicious taste like. Okay so that might be a bit over the top, but who lets facts get in the way of a good story? Place is awesome, it beats the pants off of other pizza places in the area and free delivery within 3 miles (ha, I live 2.99 - boom).
Review Source:Just ordered take out from this place as I always do. The first two times it was great. The last time was not that good so I thought I would give them a another chance. Big mistake. I order the same thing everytime, chicken parmesan. Wait an hour only to find they delivered the wrong thing. Called them to tell them and the guy who takes my order tells me he can't here that well. Why the bleep is he taking orders. Didn't offer much of an apology and did not offer to fix the issue, just apologies. I asked him to credit my card because it was the wrong order and I hung up. I will make sure the credit is there and I will comment on that. Oh, by the way, the sandwich they sent wrong was a piece of soggy crap along with cold hard garlic bread. Papous, I think not. Crapous probably describe it best.
Review Source:Reviewing Papou's Pizza has given me heartburn. I ordered the Papou's Special which had the requisite cheese, plus sausage, meatball, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions & green peppers. Â Pretty traditional.
The sauce was pretty good, not too sweet, not too much of that acid reflux reaction after the fact. Â The real flaw and Achilles heel is the crust: it tastes like the cardboard box it comes in and it is soggy and limp. Â That is a total deal breaker for me. Â
The person taking the phone calls has good phone etiquette and that is a plus; another positive is that I'm within the 3 mile delivery radius. Â The friendliness and convenience however don't make up for a pizza that doesn't taste that great. Sorry Grandpa.
I haven't reviewed this place yet? Â Well I've eaten here 4 times in the last month so I guess it's time. This is my go-to place for when that craving for something cheesy sets in. Â Their fried mozzarella is a chunk of breaded & fried cheese sitting in a pool of sauce and I LOVE IT. Speaking of sauce, theirs is chunkier than usual and very tomato-y. Their pizza is a medium-thick crust chewy pan style. Â Their garlic cheese bread is nice and homemade tasting, plenty of seasonings and lots of cheese. I've never eaten inside the restaurant, so I can't speak to their service, but our to-go orders are always ready when we arrive and they're always delicious when we get home. Also, if you dig their pizza sauce as much as I do, a side container of their sauce ($4ish) will top two large homemade pizzas.
Review Source:It's perfectly fine pizza, but it's nothing special. I order from here every now and then because it's the best pizza in my delivery area. Let's just say I really miss living walking distance from Proto's on Platte St. I did go here to have an eggplant parm sub once and it was pretty good.
I was super annoyed because I specifically asked them if the bruschetta was made with vinegar she said "no". She didn't bother to mention that the each bread slice is drizzled in balsamic vinegar. My husband can't eat vinegar so we ended up making our own. Just don't know why people can't be up front with you when you ask questions!
This small hidden gem is not to be missed!! The small or large made to order gourmet pizzas are the best. Fresh ingredients, always hot, great tasting. My fave is the SUPREMO, ricotta & mozzarella cheese, spinach, garlic and I add meatballs....YUM! Family owned, few tables, great service, and they DELIVER too!! We've been to this place and ordered from them several times each year....LOVE IT!!
Review Source:Best Greek Style Pizza in Denver!!
Excellent Crust.....Tasty Sauce, Sausage that is perfect- not that rabbit pellet sized stuff found on commercial pizza.....This is a great little hole in the wall place....My only suggestion is to move to a venue with more exposure to the masses.
BTW- Great Greek Salads as well....
Try it, you will love it!
Papou's Pizzeria and Italian Eatery
A family run business, with a simple business plan: good service, good ingredients, good food! Â You've got it right Papou's!
We each had our own slice of pizza, with our own chosen ingredients. I don't think you could choose a bad ingredient! Â They have their own traditional, as well as gourmet pizzas, all of which I'm sure are good too. Â There are also appetizers, sandwiches, gyros, calzones, and more.
Beverages - non alcoholic and Italian beverages. Â
Desserts - there are 8 scrumptious desserts. My husband simply could not pass up the homemade baklava - absolutely delicious, and he is always searching for the best. Well, this was one of the better baklava that he has had! Â Kudos!
Interior - bright, cheery, and clean! Spacious, without being "stuck up."
We will go back, when in the neighborhood, as well as when we aren't in the neighborhood. It's nice to support a family run business!
Thank you Papou's Pizzeria and Italian Eatery! Yummy!
Nobody's perfect, right? When a recent delivery order got messed up, Papou's took responsibility and made it right. Unlike some other local businesses (can you hear me, Pete's Greektown Cafe?).
I've only had the pizza and salads; both are great. It's our go-to meal for too-lazy-to-cook nights.
Well went here because a friend has been raving about this place. So got it for pick-up since thats the way I like it, well the pizza was big and if you check in on YELP then you get a free garlic bread with cheese which was good I will admit that. Now the pizza was ok. They sliced it up into little pieces like squares like 3 inches by 2 inches. I hate my pizza that way im not 5 years old eating pizza anymore. So its like a bite size almost then its gone. yeah they are good with topping just not my style.
Review Source:As a NY/ Italian girl i was craving some good pizza - not heavy with the grease but def full of flavor with warmth, cheese gooey with the veggies & meats - its not what I got with this place. The crust was just that - crust, plain & blah - I was like where's something to soak this in for flavor, & yes burnt is good but I think they need to take theirs out of the oven a little sooner - therefore next time for a $12 pizza, small white chicken/veggie - ill stick to either a fancy sit down or frozen.
Review Source:Another place near my temporary Glendale home that is pretty decent. My favorite meal from Papous is the calzone with fresh garlic and a side of their Alfredo sauce.
Last time I called to make an order to go for some friends and I they were out of multiple things including their gluten free crust, alfredo sauce, and a couple of desert items. How does an Italian restaurant just run out of Alfredo sauce? Anyway, the service has always been good. The prices are a little high but there are a couple items on the menu that are well priced for what you get.
No fuss simple Italian in huge portions. I had the chicken parm and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked chicken, crisp breading, delicious sauce. And the cannoli was great too. I'd never think there'd be a great pizza/Italian joint in a strip mall, but I'd highly recommend for a hearty, real, no fuss dinner.
Review Source:Since Papou's is one of only a few decent dinner delivery restaurants in my area, our house has been a regular delivery stop pretty much since they opened. Â I've never eaten a meal inside the restaurant, though I've dropped by a handful of times to pick up food while I was out and about.
I've tried many of menu items over the years. Â Some I love and some are just okay. Â I confess that I am a pizza snob and Papou's has some of the best pies in town. Â The crust is nice and crispy, not doughy or too thick. Â They offer red, white and pesto sauces (try the pesto!). Â The Hubs favors the Papou's Special and I like to create my own pizza. Â They have a great variety of toppings.
We are also big fans of the baked ravioli (he likes the Italian sausage and I like the meat), the gyro platter salad, and the chef salad. Â Portions are generous and I can get 2 meals out of a large salad or any of the pasta dishes, which come with bread and a dinner salad. Â A word about the dinner salads: Â they are kinda pitiful. Â Just lettuce, red peppers, red onion, and consistently unacceptable tomatoes.
The owners and employees have always been friendly and accommodating. Â Come to think of it, delivery times have decreased in recent months as well. Â Long live Papou's!
As a Jersey Girl, I was rather surprised that I never knew Connecticut Pizza was a "thing" until I moved to Colorado. The pie isn't sliced into 8 lovely triangular pieces, instead it is 50 little squares. This is good for you non-crust eaters as there are plenty of "slices" without crust. They make a pretty mean chicken parm & eggplant parm sandwich and the calzones are dang good too.
BUT, the real reason I love Papou's is the Greek salad platter. This bad boy comes with gyro meat & tzatziki sauce in addition to all the other Greek salad staples. Papou's is located in the same mall as my hair stylist, so I pretty much eat the greek salad every 6 weeks. Only 4 weeks to go and I can't wait!
This is a place that, if I had longer than an hour for lunch and it didn't crush my soul to drive on Leetsdale, I'd lounge at much more often. Just order a pie and chill. Great pizza. Reminds me of some DJ mashup of a few different (good) pizzas I've had in my past. And the menu is pretty diverse too, so I'll go back and try a calzone or some other entree sometime. Price is very reasonable when it comes to the upper echelon of pizza joints here. And yes, it's one of the places that charges a base price for a cheese pizza and they nickel and dime on toppings but it's lower than most of the best chain and independent places I like in the area. Staff are very friendly, and yes that counts for a lot to me.
Review Source:I work up in Glendale on weekends, and while most events are catered, we don't often get to eat that food. We started ordering Papous pizzas to get us through the night and I must say nothing beats the sausage and pepperoni, except maybe the chicken and jalepeno!
One of the BEST pizzas in Denver!
Decided to order in today, I'm feeling rather lazy on rainy days as of late.
Called in twice, got put on hold twice. So expect them to busy. I was told the wait would be 45 to 1 hour. Â I'm pretty impatient when it comes to food but I figured a little extra patience wouldn't kill me.
I was feeling experimental today and instead of ordering something normal, I decided to step outside the pizza box.
@Harrison H. recommended the  Sausage Basil and Mushroom pizza. So I ordered it - minus the house salad. (which now, come to think of it I slightly regret)
It came faster than expected and when i opened the box it smelled friggin delicious. I ended up getting wayy too big of a pizza so now I have some spare slices.
The pizza was amazing. Thanks for the "grain of salt" @Harisson H.
Ok... you need to take this review with a grain of salt. We discovered this place about 4 years ago and, now, will not order anywhere else. You see, we are in the VERY fortunate position of being within their delivery area.
Another reason to be sceptical is that we almost always order the same pizza -- the truly AMAZING Sausage, Basil, Mushroom. That's it -- it's all you need (oh -- and a large house salad -- very good too). We tried a few others toppings/specialty pizzas over the years and, while very good, just don't have quite the flavorful excellence of the SBM described above.
We entertain a great deal and, when the somewhat rare occasion strikes to order a pizza, this is ALWAYS a crowd pleaser and people regularly ask the pizza's origin. We tell them the story about WestWord's best "Connecticut-style" pizza award and still don't really understand what that is. All we know is that it is FANTASTIC pizza.
Bravo Papou's! Keep up the good work.
I work down the street and became addicted to this place for their cheap lunchtime slices.
I came one time at 2:30 (after battling crazy Leetsdale traffic) and they told me they were no longer serving slices. I peered over the girls shoulder and saw several yummy looking slices-missing pizzas behind her, so this was kind of confusing to me. Shouldn't there always be slices to be had at a pizza joint? Especially after putting my life on the line getting down here?
Nooo, I don't want a 10 inch pizza. I'll eat it all in one sitting and feel like I just gained 10 pounds. Maybe I need to be a little more open-minded (and disciplined), but seriously throw it in the oven and cook it if you need to. I'll wait. Just give me my damn slice! It can't possibly be that difficult.
I'll give this place an a-ok for when I'm with someone else, but not everyone can "grab a man" to come to a pizza place to ensure 3/4ths of the pizza goes to the right place =P
I can usually take or leave pizza, mainly because I ate too much of it growing up (kinda like spaghetti and chili). Â Having just moved from Chicago, I'm fairly well acquainted with good pizza and didn't find very much of it here in Denver --- until I tried Papou's.
Whoever answers the phone at this place is always super cool and nice. Â The pizza arrives on time, piping hot and delish. Â We never get too crazy with our toppings --- usually sausage or pepperoni with extra cheese, but it's always very good and gobbled up instantly. Â
If you like pizza, give them a try.
Good pizza but I wouldn't consider it great. The guy on the phone taking my order was super nice and very polite, good start! I ordered delivery and it got here a little on the cool side for my taste.
I ordered double shrooms and ricotta cheese. They used an ample amount of toppings and they had good taste but the crust was a little on the under done side.
Last but not least they cut the frickin' pizza into squares! WTF?!?! I will never understand the reasoning for this and any explanation I've ever heard never makes sense.
Would I go back? Yes, but only if they promised to cut the pie like a pizza should be and a little more cooked for a slightly crisper crust.
This is for the Italian pasta dishes at Papou's. Â They are great. Â I finally got hubby to go here, as opposed to delivery, and to eat pasta, as opposed to pizza. Â I had the Aoli, with pasta, garlic, fresh basil and olive oil. Â Throw in a side of their fabulous veal and ? meatballs on the side for protein. Â He said the ravioli was fabulous and Lill had enough cutlet for another meal. Â Chianti nice and dry, salad, as usual fresh fresh fresh with homemade house italian. Â I am almost human, at least human enough to get some much needed sleep.
best of all? Â it's right around the corner from us on a Tuesday nite, and the owners treat us like family.
This place serves up some yummy pizza and sandwiches. They also serve up the delicious and refreshing Hillas Beer from Greece. Ahhh....
The people working the counter at this place are pretty friendly and accommodating to special requests.
The pizza here seriously reminds of the Greek style pizza I have had at numerous Greek diners throughout New England. I find the nostalgia factor to be a plus in addition to the really tasty sauce and cheese.
The prices here are very reasonable and you definitely get a good bang for your buck. I really hope this place is getting some attention, because it certainly deserves the business!
Yummmy! I'm not so much a calzone fan...just a pizza fan to the bone. My friend and I split eachother's meals for lunch. Both were awesome, good call!
I saw they have cannolis...I don't even wanna jump on that train after sampling the main dishes.
Go, check it out. It's small so don't go with more than about six people. Service is exceptional.
Quick, affordable Italian with an edge. M-mmm!
I ran in looking for a quick slice, but there were no slices left. I asked how long for a small pizza and they said about 10 minutes. I'd never heard of Connecticut style pizza before, but the nice lady at the counter was happy to chat me up while I waited. Turns out Connecticut style is similar to Greek style which is neither thin nor thick but something interestingly in the middle.
They weren't lying. In about 10 minutes I had my little 10 inch pizza, cheesy and bubbly, ready to be devoured, sitting before me. Even with a soda it was just under $10, my favorite lunch price. I could only eat 3 of the 8 slices in one sitting. It made a perfect dinner later that night though! That is a very good deal - getting 2 meals out of $10.
Lots of the other menu items reflect the Greek influence. Yummy salads, calzones, pastas, paninis and subs feature olives, eggplant, gyro meat and feta. They don't stay open very late and there isn't a lot of room to sit inside, but the customer service and cleanliness of the restaurant is phenomenal. I am a fan!
The lady and I happened in here a few months ago (I can't believe I'm just getting around to reviewing it now!) after a recommendation by my roommate. Â It's a solid delicious pizza place. Â We mixed and matched some toppings and it was just insanely delicious. As best we can recall, we did a medium 'za with Sausage, fresh Garlic, and Roasted Red Peppers. Â The flavor combo was ridic good, and the textures were excellent as well. Â Good crust, not too thin (thin crust pizza, despite what the fanatics say, is a travesty of pizza) and not chicago-style either. Â The pizza was just a touch greasy for my taste, but was still absolutely excellent.
Upon a second trip (we did take out both times) we decided to try some pasta as well -- we thought if the pizza was so good, the pasta must be great too. Â Wow we were wrong. Â Go ahead and gorge on the pizza but stay away from their pasta. Â It was simple, bland, and we could have made something 10x better in just a few minutes at home. Â We got a simple spaghetti and meatball kind of deal and the sauce lacked spice, the noodles were super watery -- though the meatballs were decent. Â
Service is usually reasonably quick, friendly, and the pizza is definitely something to savor. Â Their website has a list of all their potential ingredients, and it also says they deliver. Â So, wahoo if you live nearby like me!
Papou's is awesome. Â As far as I'm concerned Papou is Italian for 'your pizza daddy' or something like that.
Woohoo! Â My favorite pizza! Papou's has been voted best Connecticut Style pizza by the Westword several times, and it's well deserved. I have no idea what Connecticut Style pizza is, except that it's a cut above any other pizza that can be delivered to your house. The ingredients are fresh and gourmet. The crust is thinner (not "thin" because it's not like eating a cracker with cheese on top). They have this four cheese pizza, with Romano, Ricotta, White Cheddar, and Mozzerella and MAN is it good. I ordered it for a pool party once and now when people come to my pool they want to order it every time. They deliver to my house, but only within a three mile radius, so most of you probably have to visit the little shop on Leetsdale and pick your pizza up. C'mon it's not that far!
I love the Greek Salad as well. Plenty of feta, olives, tomatoes and served with Dolmathes (those grape leaf things). A pizza and a salad is a well-rounded meal to me! It can be a bit pricey, a large is about $18, but if you are a pizza aficionado like me, you know it's worth it.
