This place gets 5 stars all the way. The service is great wether your dining in or getting it to go. I have to say Daniella is the best waitress they have. She's always attentive well mannered and very professional. As far as the bar, Chris makes the best drinks there. If your dining at the bar he's great in waiting on you as well. He makes a good Long Island ice tea that's for sure.
Review Source:Being that I visit Houston on a regular basis now, there are many choices for food and several Pappas around the area. Had tao give a great shout out to this location, and to our waitress Kriztel who took care of a large GE crowd. What a hoot! Â Not only was she one of the best servers I've had in years, she made dinner a presentation, and a show! Each entree recommendation was dramatic and inviting, but funny and entertaining. She was requested by a previous group of exectutives of our division and bringing 20 people in for dinner from all over the country- she lived up to the pre- warning we were given that we would love the food and the service. The Halibut, the Sea Bass, raw oysters on special for $6 a dozen, to the fine wine selectiona nd menu items- all presented perfectly and delicious.I Â IF you're in the SE Houston area near Hobby, check out Pappas Seafood. Fresh, fantastic service, ask for Kriztel. I promise, you will have a great evening!!!! Â 2 thumbs up!!!!
Review Source:3.5 stars.
Chain seafood restaurant that is good but not great. Â The interior, while not dirty, did not give me an impression of clean either. Â Service was typical for this type of establishment - young and casual. Â
The fish we ordered was fresh and tasty. Â The lobster and shrimp salad was creative and very good, though it could have used a bit more lobster, but then again more lobster is always better.
Raw oysters, Monday through Thursday, are on special at $5.95 a dozen. Â You can't beat that, and if you are an oyster lover that's reason in itself to come to Pappas.
The dessert "trio" was actually four desserts, and though the plate will never be confused with a fine patisserie, it was a nice ending to the meal that left enough sweets to take home for later...
Coffee was curiously cold. Â We asked for hot coffee, and it came back only warm. Â We were puzzled with what could be up with that.
This was one of the utmost worse Pappas experience I've ever had in my entire life. Â I don't know if it's lack of staff training and sanitation reasons, but I will NEVER EVER COME BACK. Â
It started off with a tartar sauce stain on the table.  Our server  (who took ten minutes to arrive to our table) cleaned it off. I still thought it was gross having to sit at a table that wasn't thoroughly wiped down. Next it was the lipstick stain on the napkin.  I requested a different one from the server.  It wasn't her fault the stain was on there.  However, at the end of the meal after the empty plates were removed, I noticed the second napkin she handed me had a different shade of lipstick color on there.  Mind you I don't wear lipstick at all....
We happen to order the last two dozen of oysters as an appetizer. Â These were probably the ones that were subjected to the trash compactor, due to the fact that they weren't fresh and tantalizing to look at. Â I'm a fan of oysters, but these weren't oysters. Â These were balls of mucus that contracted every different venerial disease on earth. Â The bread and butter was a miss. Â How is that even possible when it's just bread and butter. Â The bread was not even toasted thoroughly and the butter was way over salted.
I ordered the Coasta Rican Mahi Alexander which came with a white wine sauce with toppings of shrimps and scallops. When the portion came out, it was broken down like this: Over-sized plate, which made the fish look like it was a quarter the size of the plate, 3 pieces of grilled shrimp including the tail and a third of ONE scallop. Â I wondered where the fourth part of it went. Â Yes, I had one scallop that was missing the fourth piece to complete the circle. Â Maybe I'm accustomed to the Little Pappas Seafood (West Alabama and Shepherd location) Â portion where there are generous toppings of shrimps (without the tail) Â and scallops literally covering the fish. Â The fish, was BLAND. Â I didn't think that could be even remotely possible for a Pappas Restaurant, considering their high standard of food, quality, customer service and sanitation. Â I had to add Tabasco sauce and salt to give it some flavor. Â The sauce was watered down and nothing on that entree had any bit of seasoning in it. Â
The Stuffed Flounder had a lot of bone in it. Â Again, I maybe accustomed to the Little Pappas off West Alabama, because this was just awful. Â I've never had bone in their stuffed flounder. Â This was an over priced lunch ,considering nothing was edible and everything was dirty from the table to the napkins and utensils. Â Our server was nice, but she never came to check on us at all.
As I am writing this, I just emptied out a whole entire aquarium of sea animals in oddly shaped forms. Â Thanks for the worse service, food children in third world countries wouldn't fight over for and giving my entire party food poisoning. Â Thanks.
Absolutely delicious. Â Great service. Â On the expensive side, especially for a work lunch, but worth it for an occasional splurge.
Went here yesterday with a friend. Â I have always liked the restaurant, but usually it's on the pricey side for me for lunch. Â We just decided to go on a whim.
We started with a greek salad. Â Our waiter (Austin, who, by the way, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and attentive) made the salad tableside and even made funny faces on the plates with the veggies and shrimp. Â I had blackened catfish with pappardelle mardi gras. Â Not only was it tasty, Â but HUGE, way too much food to finish in one sitting. Â My friend had a tilapia dish from the lunch menu, which was also great.
I had eaten here 2 or 3 times before and it was decent but this past visit will be my last. It was freezing in there. Service was slow. I waited quite a while for my salad and then of course 2 minutes later my meal came. I hate that! Â I ordered the redfish with lobster and avacado. There were 2 TINY pieces of lobster, like what you find in a good sized lobster leg. I asked the waitress what was up with that and she said "yes - there should be more, I will get you more". Â She forgot me and eventually (when i was about done with my meal) someone else brought out a decent portion of lobster meat. The fish had so much pepper on it - what a shame. It would have been a nice piece of fish.
Review Source:They try...but it is just not that special. Â It is freezing in here. Â The waitress was accomodating but she lacked info. Â Which I was fine with bc she did check on Wheat Gluten in the sauces. Â So I just went grilled salmon with Green Beans and Mashed Taters. Â They forgot the beans...but quickly brought when I asked for them, with a smile bc I know they get side tracked no worries. Â But nothing peeves me more than someone that effs up mashed taters. Â I am a southern gurl. Â I know how to make a potato this was and that. Â Please do not serve me mashed taters covered in crap and super gummy. Â Most food taste better when it is not overworked. Â The potato people should really start paying attn and do them justice. Â Overcooked, overcreamed, over buttered, over done, I am over it! Â Oh and my mom asked for extra tatar, which to me is gross in the first place. Â The asst waiter decded to bring her two small bowls full. Â I said "that is a little excessive do you think?" Â I thought it was quite rude, but it was not our servers fault. Â Just too expensive for fried food.
Review Source:Absolutely the worst Pappas restaurant that I've ever been to.....and I've been giving them chances for redemption over and over. Â The earlier review who mentioned the grimy feel of the place was dead on. Â The food is decent and the location convenient when I'm on that side of town; however, worst.service.ever. Â The bar and wait staff are ignorant about the menu and masters at ignoring guests. Â They do, however, seem to have a great time socializing among themselves. Â I can only guess that there are serious management issues ---somehow they stay open. Â I'm done with this place.
Review Source:Really wanted to like this place. Â If you need to have an intelligent dialogue about anything talk to Ramona the manager the waitstaff is lacking in comprehension skills. Â First off even though we both ordered the same salad at the same price there was a huge size difference??? Then talked to the waiter about Gluten Free, he never got gluten-free. Â Not when we sent back the bread, not when we sent back salad with croutons on it and not when we ordered gluten free pan grilled fish that came seasoned with flour. Â Pappa's claims to train their staff, I don't doubt they sit them in a room but they don't test their comprehension of what is taught. Sadly their "top" shelf steak house in Dallas is just as lacking.
Review Source:The biggest dissapointment of our Pappa's experience was our service. Our waiter was MIA for the majority of our meal. We eventually had to flag down another waiter to get drinks, order and receive a check. Horrible service.
We started with the shrimp scampi. Shrimp was fresh and tasty but the pico de gallo was awful. It was not a good mix.
I had the chicken and shrimp with hands down, the best chicken tenders I have ever had. Fried shrimp was also extremely good.
The tables are so close together that it made it difficult for my husband and I to converse privately.
This place is very pricy, and you'll leave spending about 75-100$ for subpar service and great seafood.
Overall, I'd recommend getting your food to-go, because you'll be getting about the same service that you would at home. Zero.
Our service was great. This review is on food only. We started with an app of oysters and calamari. Â They oysters were great, the calamari was gritty and in almost every bite there was sand. Our dinners were horrible. Â The risotto under the shrimp and scallop dinner had at least 5 cloves of semi cooked garlic in it which over powered the dish and the rice was crunchy. The only thing good on the seafood platter was the fried shrimp, the catfish was soggy and flavorless and the stuffed crab and shrimp were warm in the middle and might as well have been tuna fish salad.
Review Source:Absolutely Horrible!!!! Our waiter never came to ask us if we needed anything additional. Somehow our ticket was lost and the waiter did not even bother to inform us and we waited for over 30 minutes just to eat. He seem to be in a hurry or just didn't want to be at work period...I will NEVER go back!!!!
Review Source:I might not always be biggest fan of seafood, but  Pappa's Seafood House has become one of my favorite lunch destinations around the Gulfgate area. Perhaps one of the restaurant's greatest greatest assets is catering to customers like me, whom are more interested in the less frequented quarters of the menu. If you have another somewhat hesitant seafood eater in your group they will almost certainly find something else to enjoy.
My entree of choice tends to be the excellent Chicken Linguine Lafayette, which although on the lunch menu, the staff will happily prepare all day. Also of particular note are the onion rings, which are actually shared from the Pappadeaux menu. Seasoned with flaked red pepper, lightly battered, and then flash fried, they melt in your mouth and are not greasy in the slightest.
I was craving Salmon and I wanted to be sure that it wasn't fishy smelling or tasting. Â In other words I wanted a decently cooked, fresh, tasty piece of Salmon: Â I wanted consistency.
So the BF and I headed over to Pappas Seafood. Â
I ordered the Lunch Gingered Salmon (grilled salmon fillet topped with ginger butter & served with almond green beans). Â It was lovely and tasty--exactly what I wanted and expected.
I was experiencing Gluttony to the 4th degree and opted for the Turtle Fudge Brownie (with pecans, a la mode) and DAMN was it good!!!!
It was SO SWEET and rich that the BF took a bite and kinda had this painful look on his face - and when I inquired as to his unhappiness/discomfort he said "It is so sweet!?!??" Â :-D
~~~Perfect~~~~
My awesome girlfriend took me here...otherwise I'd have to say that it's a tiny bit out of my price range when it comes to old-school Gulf Coast seafood dishes in a very casual/chain restaurant setting. That being said, I think part of what you're paying for is consistency here...as the dish I had here could have easily been one that I've had at any of the Pappa's locations for what seems like over the past 20+ years. There are TONS of Mexican seafood restaurants in the area around this location, that might be a little bit cheaper, but the food can be hit-or-miss.
I had the blackened catfish with shrimp etouffee. (See picture.) I knew I couldn't go wrong with that. The catfish was good...and while it seemed to have of butter on it or something, I wasn't overloaded with salt like I am at some other seafood places.
The etouffee was mostly a big pile of rice with five shrimp on top, but it was just the "side" item to the fish, so I wasn't expecting much. I love rice anyways...and shrimp...so I wiped out my entire plate...including a couple of pieces of the french bread that they bring out to your table.
All in all, I guess everyone pretty much knows what to expect when they go to a Pappa's Seafood House, and that's not a bad thing!
My visit was fantastic, though the service was a little slow; I feel that's the culture around Houston, which is fine...just when you're working you're always in a rush.
Can't beat Oysters for 4 bucks and the seafood was really well done; a little overcooked, but fantastic flavor.
We also had their hamachi appetizer, it was really interesting because it came with fried wontons, wakame salad and 4 pieces of hamachi. It was tasty, and a very interesting twist to hamachi.
Blackened Catfish was great; a bit overcooked, but great flavor. Â The mahi-mahi was good too. Â And my other friend had the Pacific Red fish/snapper, which had a really cool texture that was springy, and the flavors were spot on.
Pappas is apparently a chain around Houston and I avoid chains like the plague, but with location being important, we tried it and glad that I did try it.
Our server, Oscar was FANTASTIC, upsold everything; knew the menu well and provided us with great service.
I'm not the biggest fan of the Pappas franchise, but I do like their Pappas Seafood House. The food is always consistent and when in season, they deliver great deals on their seafood specials. When I do go  to Pappas Seafood House, I usually get the crawfish (when in season and at the bar where they run the special for them), crawfish bisque, and Snapper Alexander. When I don't feel like dining in, I order the crab fingers with a side of linguine. The trademark to me of all the Pappas is the bread. I'm so addicted to it, I'll ask for another loaf just to take home with me and eat it with a salad or just by itself. Â
With the exception of the weekends, this location is low key where it's not noisy and the waiters are attentive. The only thing I wish they'd change about this place is the seating and the lighting. I know the concept behind this restaurant is to make it like a house  close to the sea, ocean, whatever, but when I have gone to this location on the weekends, it's super tight. I feel a little uncomfortable eating because I'm being so careful not to bump the person next to me or pulling my chair up so close to the table so I'm not sitting on top of the person at the table behind me.
Lately, I've been trying to be on a health kick. I've been trying to work out everyday and sometime (not recently), twice a day. Part of this was due to my girlfriend and I breaking up. Need to be in better shape since I'm newly single.
Anyways, this was not the place for that health kick to continue. Holy hell. I went here because a vendor who I work with brought me and I trusted their judgement. First off, this place was delicious. I can't say enough about how great the food was. However, I probably won't go back for some time because I'm avoiding greasy foods...unless I need it to absorb some adult beverages in my belly at the end of the night.
We started off with some cheesy shrimp and crawfish fondue. It was served with buttery garlic bread. It was ridiculously good but I could feel my arteries slowly clogging up. Then for my main meal I got the fried shrimp and scallops. It was served with fries that were seasoned very well. After eating all the scallops and shrimp, I quickly had a heart attack and then had a heart bypass that was done right there in the kitchen by the head chef. I guess they anticipate this happening alot.
Overall, it was so good, but so unhealthy. I do like the Gulf Coast seafood better than the West Coast seafood and this place has the Gulf Coast seafood. I will probably have to let my arteries recover before I come here again, but will definitely come back.
