Park Tavern is definitely my new go to place when I want a city-ish experience without having to drive all the way down to the city. Granted, the Rosemont entertainment area is a total pain in the ass to get to if you don't know where you're going but it beats city traffic, parking, and parking fees. Bleh.
I've been to Park Tavern a couple of times for dinner and each time I've been really impressed with the food. The menu is very diverse with what I like to refer to as "elevated bar food". It's a great mix of earthy greens, burgers, sammies, meat and seafood dishes, and some crazy good small plates. Here's the breakdown...
+ Farmstead Tacos: Â Mushrooms, eggs, greens, and brie. Amazing. Duh. They were even nice enough to sub egg whites for me.
+ Pulled Chicken Tacos: Equally as good as the Farmstead - just with some juicy, spicy, chicken.
+ Jalapeno, Bacon Mac: If you don't get this, you're stupid. It's the best f'ing spicy, meaty mac I've ever had. And trust me, I've tried many
+ Roasted Red Pepper Hummus: Creamy, delectable, and comes with not only pita dippers, but cucumber dippers as well. As for the olive tapenade...swooooon.
+ Smoked chicken wings: Smoky, spicy, meaty, and delicious. Enough said.
+ Lamb French Dip: Perfection on a bun. Ask for extra dip - it's so good you'll want to drink it alone.
+ Beef Carpaccio: I'm not usually into raw meat but paired with capers, greens, and truffle oil - I was sold.
Some other faves that my dining buddies raved about were the Ahi Tuna, Spicy Calamari, Shrimp & Grits, and the Foot Long Grilled Cheese (yum).
The one thing that could take Park Tavern from a 4 star review to a 5 star review would be the service. It wasn't terrible, but I found each time our server was somewhat unfriendly and forgetful. It's also a hassle making a reservation for a party larger than 6. I failed to understand why I needed to go through the party planning committee for a party that wasn't that big - especially since both times I've been in on a Friday night the restaurant wasn't full.
Solid 4 stars. Great food. Amazing mac. Phenomenal beer selection. Trendy, city vibe.
Came for lunch with two friends. Once we figured out how to find the place and park, we were impressed with the ambiance (although the place was empty).
Had the Mac of the day which was awesome! Also tried two of their salads which were blah...no taste whatsoever! How is it that the Smokey Bacon Vinaigrette doesn't have any smokey or bacon taste at all? It tasted like oil to me. Very bland and so was the chicken it was topped with and the crumbled cornbread was doughy.
I might return to try another Mac and maybe a burger but the salads were a big disappointment.
Good place! It was our first time to the Rosemont Park. Their online menu looked interesting. The cost for burgers and sandwiches at a bar was a little higher than usual, but worth it. It was more like a gourmet sports bar. The sandwiches are huge you get your money's worth and love the fresh ingredients. Excellent spicy calamari.
I read on yelp they validate and they did. Remember to bring your parking ticket!
This was the firs time visited the much talked about "Entertainment Park".  The Park Tavern was my first stop. I came all the way from Bartlett and I must say it was worth the trip.  This is by far the best place in the district.  I came in with a large group from college as kind of a re-unite night.  OMG.  This place was AWESOME.  They had over 30-50 craft beers on draft and those "tappers" at the table.  So cool.  Our waitress Lauren blew us away with her knowledge of the variety of beers they has and what would best treat my palate.  I must say the service we received was beyond stellar and makes me want to bring my family there again.  It is a breath of fresh air to have a waitress that really seemed to take those extra steps to guide us through the menu.  The food was nothing short of amazing.  I had the "moo" which was a sliced brisket with their House BBQ sauce with jalapeno bacon mac and  grilled asparagus.  Amazing.  Park Tavern... I'll be back!
Review Source:Have been here a couple of times now. Â Enjoyed the experience. Â The food and drinks were good. Â Had the calamari as an app and the angus burger for dinner. Â Both were very good! The service was great! Â Sara was our server. Â She was very knowledgeable and didn't waste anytime getting our food out to us. It's a very active place and as it gets later in the evening, it definitely has the "club" vibe.
Review Source:Thumbs up for Park Tavern, I've been twice now, and both times the food was great. First trip I ordered the Carnitas Tacos. My husband is from CA and Carnitas is a staple back home, but rather hard to find here. Park Tavern has some pretty darn good Carnitas tacos, served with napa cabbage on top and a side of pico. Second trip I brought the husband and he had the same tacos and his comment "these are exactly the way they should be". We god their buffalo chicken wings, and I am a serious wing hater, but these are simply delicious. I ordered the beef brisket dinner and it was terrific too. Since we live in the area this will definitely be a regular stop!
Review Source:Two friends and I went to Park Tavern On Saturday afternoon. Â All the staff was extremely nice. Nicole our waitress was terrific. Attentive but not overly so. She was very knowledgeable able the menu and we had a great conversation with her. Her service was a nice plus to a very enjoyable dining experience. We tried a variety of dishes and each one was as good as the last. Â Especially the shrimp tacos, the bacon mac and cheese, and the shrimp sandwich.
Review Source:Wonderful service extensive beer menu including taps right at the table. Excellent food. Â Really neat entertainment area with a bunch of bars, a movie theater, bowling alley and comedy club all around a square.
Strange entrance into the area and the parking garage is very odd as well.
WARNING If you're coming from the northwest suburbs, or even west suburbs, prepare to get lost and/or really become familiar with the map of this area. It is VERY tricky to 1. get to the street it's on, 2. find parking (in the evening), and 3. find your way to front door if you've parked in the garage. My GPS led me there no problem, but I am also savvy at following maps & finding places. You might take 90E to 190W to first exit to 190E to first exit (River Road, I believe) to E Bryn Mawr Ave which curves around and gives you the option to either circle around an area that contains several bars, a movie theater, & parking garage or up a ramp into the parking garage. If you choose to circle around, there are two ground lots which get full quick in the evening. If you choose the ramp, don't panic when you see a $13 or $16 parking fee; they'll validate it inside any of the restaurants or bars (at least Park Tavern did) so parking is free. Once you have parked in the garage, have some more fun finding your way to the elevator or stairs that lead to all the restaurants and bars. If you just look for signs & follow them, you should be ok, but even my family was complaining when their GPS led them somewhere near Elmhurt; don't ask me how that happened. They eventually took River Road back & found the place.
ANYWAY, on to my review of the actual Tavern!
Went here to celebrate my birthday. I chose this place because it is a restaurant/bar and wanted to bring my underage cousins & sister. Nice place, darn good food & good drinks! I'm a huge beer drinker & like to try new ones, which can be a feat considering I've had over 600 different kinds, but I did stumble upon a couple here I have never had. My first drink was the upside down pineapple cake martini. YUMMMM!!!!! So good. Similar to what I normally drink: vodka, pineapple juice & grenadine. This martini had cupcake ginger snap & frosting flavored vodka, butterscotch schnapps, pineapple juice, and cherry juice. I also had the Arcadia Loch Down Scotch Ale; pretty good. A few brews I recommend that they also have include 5 Lizard, Fixed Gear, and everyone loves Daisy Cutter.
Foodwise, I ordered the animal tots (pulled pork, gravy, fried egg, & cheese curds; uh, yeah, amazing) and jalapeno bacon mac n cheese. So incredibly good, I finished them both, even though I did share just a bit (but didn't want to!) They have a different mac n cheese daily, I believe. Sandwiches looked good. I definitely want to return & try their other food.
We arrived around 8:00-8:30 and luckily we had a reservation because the place was completely packed. A DJ started playing around 10:00 & they eventually move tables out of the way so people can walk around, mingle & dance a bit.
Our server was so nice & offered to show us the rooftop Sky lounge that I inquired about. Small, but has its own bar with seating and a private room for parties.
A bit of an older crowd, but did see a few in their 20's. We assumed there would be a lot of tourists, considering the airport is next door, but who knows.
I would definitely return for dinner & drinks early evening, but I'm not sure I would want to stick around for the loud DJ & dancing later in the night.
Visited for lunch in anticipation of booking a corporate dinner for 20. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. Burger and fries were delicious. Not a fan of the smokey Italian dressing on the chopped salad though. Looking forward to trying some of their other dishes next month for dinner.
Review Source:We've gone to eat here twice. The food is pretty good, but the menu isn't very extensive. They do have 40 beers on tap. That pleases my hubby, who is a beer snob, because several are craft beers. Our favorite sandwich so far is the Foot Long Grilled Cheese, which features 3 cheeses, chipotle spread, 2 fried eggs & applewood smoked bacon. I also love their Parmesan Truffle Tater Tots. They are by far the best tots I've had in my lifetime. We brought leftover tots home & my son sang his praises over them as well.
We plan to visit again to try more menu items. They have some pretty tasty looking burgers that have been tempting me.
I had a lot of fun here. Â In retrospect, I should have stayed here the whole night rather than go on a failed mission of hunting dive bars in the city.
I arrived at 7:30pm and was seated immediately at a table for one. Â There was a large contingent of Blackhawks fans who were clearly in good spirits (literally and figuratively) as their team massacred the Dallas Stars 8-1. Â Even as a Ducks fan, I had a good time. Â The inside of the bars is fairly large capable of serving 200-300 people depending on how many tables are removed when the DJ starts spinning. Â This venue is great for large groups - Â I counted several of 20 or more. This place has the potential to be a great sponsor bar for a sports league like kickball or softball.
I ordered the oink - full rack of honey chipotle bbq baby back ribs along with 2 sides of asparagus and brocholini. Â On the pintside, I went with a local gold - Great Lakes Durmonder I think was the name. Â My server, Elizabeth, was as charming as she was beautiful. Â The entire waitstaff works hard and frequently makes rounds being very attentative to their customers needs. Â The food runners served me my meal quickly and the bussers had a zeal for clearinh clutter quickly and quietly. Â I was thorougly delighted with the meal and promptly entered into a food coma from its deliciousness! :-)
If luck or work returns me to Rosemont, I will definitely return! Â I highly recommend you pay a visit and bring some pals or make some new ones while sharing a meal and cheering on the hometown team on one of the many flat panel tv's throughout the bar. Â You won't be disappointed! :-)
I went out with a group of friends, on a Saturday night, for my husband's birthday, under the impression that this place is a laid back, craft brew restaurant. Little did I know that it turns into a night club at around 9:30pm.
All we ordered was drinks, so I can't comment on the food. It was fun watching the basketball games, but as soon as 9:30 hit, the music videos came on and I couldn't hear anything or carry on a conversation with friends.
This place is great if I was in my early 20s and wanted to dance and get hit on by guys.
I finally made it to the Rosemont Park area. Â FINALLY. Â I've been meaning to check a couple of places out in this area because I heard they had some decent beer. Â And decent beer is about all they have...
We came to Park Tavern on a Sunday (St. Patrick's Day, to be exact.) at around 1:00 for some brews and some grub. Â I was a little worried about the Irish (or Irish wannabe) crowd, but it wasn't too bad. Â We actually came in and sat down right away. Â Service from that point was slooooooooooooow, but we weren't in a hurry so I didn't care TOO much (I mean, except for when I wanted to pay my bill to move on to the next bar, that is.). Â Give me some beer and some food and I am pretty flexible for the most part...
Speaking of what I care about, let's talk about the beer and the food:
Beer: Â Decent selection. Â They have some local breweries on tap (Tighthead, Wild Onion, Bell's, Revolution, etc.), which is always cool, and they have good beers to fill in the blanks beyond that too. Â I ended up getting a Wild Onion brew which was pretty good.
Food: Â Good and bad. Â I got the "Animal Tots" sub fries for the tots and it was pretty damn amazing. Â If I came here again, I would get it 86 mustard, but the fries, cheese curds, pulled pork, gravy, and fried egg were AMAZING. Â I should have stopped here, really, but I also got the Foot Long Grilled Cheese and it was "meh" at best. Â The bread was delicious, the cheese wasn't as plentiful as wished for, the bacon was kind of undercooked and slimy, and the eggs were TOO runny. Â It was just too breakfast sandwichy for me. Â I hate breakfast, by the way. Â My man got the burger and it was good, but nothing to write home about. Â Or yelp about, for that matter. Â He DID really enjoy the fresh cut fries, though. Â And he is very picky about his fries, so that's a huge compliment.
Honestly, I would come here again to try some of the other gastropubby items, or for the beer and the poutine, but I'd skip the other stuff we tried. Â It wasn't a bad restaurant, it just wasn't a place I would put at the top of my list to repeat.
I have only been here for an event that was catered with appetizers and a select group of beers.
All of the appetizers were good. None of them were memorable but none lacked flavor.
They have a solid beer selection and the prices seemed on the high side of fair.
I gather that this place is going for a bit higher standard of human than the surrounding bars. I can appreciate that but do not want the attitude or price that goes with it.
The staff did seem a bit put off by the large group but I would suggest they encourage large groups being so close to so many casual corporate businesses.
All in all, I would give this place another shot but I hope they are done with the growing pains...
This restaurant is trying to be something it isn't. At least, not yet. The menu, prices, and atmosphere suggest finer dining aspirations, but for now they are just that--aspirations, not reality.
While they have an extensive beer list, on my visit they were out of a shockingly large number of those beers. They were also out of at least one type of wine. This was a Saturday afternoon, so my party was a bit surprised.
The service was not bad. It wasn't exactly good, either. We had to wait a bit for refills on water, for extra napkins when we asked, etc. Again, this was a little surprising. Any place that has a dress code at the front door is a place where I expect to not have to wait for a glass of water in a restaurant with only two other tables.
I did like my entree, and one of the people in my group ordered seafood that they said was amazing, but another person in my group said their food was just OK. I couldn't really taste the truffle on the truffle tater tots, but they weren't soggy or anything. From a regular bar that serves regular bar food, they would have been great tots, but from a gastropub that truffles them, I expected more.
I might come back. I might not. If I do, I will definitely come in during a slow period again rather than chance it during the dinner rush or some other busy period.
This ain't your Granny's grilled cheese!
Yes, yes, I'll get to the beer in a sec. But let's talk cheese. grillllllled cheese, that is. I found this old classic under a section of the menu called "two-handed sandwiches". Coming in very hungry, I was immediately drawn to this. As I perused the choices, my eyes stopped in its tracks over this grilled cheese. Check out the ingredients! Cheddar, chihuahua, pepper jack, candied applewood bacon, chipotle spread, topped with two fried eggs on a baguette. holy hell. And it tasted even better than I hoped. I had a couple of their french fries which too were delicious, but I had to abandon them when it became clear that my stomach would only admit one.
We got some buffalo wings to start and while I thought the portion of meat on the drumsticks was very generous and sauce very tasty, it was clear they cooked these over open flame. I mention this because not all parts of the skin were crispy, which I personally did not enjoy. Pretty good wings though.
I got a glass of wine and a beer, and both had impressive menus. They even had a Ravenswood Zin, which is a go-to for me.
We don't make our way out to Rosemont very often, but in a sea of moderately priced eateries such as Toby Keith's and King's, this is a top contender. And make room for the grilled cheese!
Maybe it's because my group had reservations that I had a great experience. Â I'd describe this place as sleek with delicious gourmet bar food, and attentive service. I ate the rib burger, lemon chipotle wings and calamari with a few Stella's, all was delicious. I'd definitely go back, note: the female manager (blonde), was very hands on. As a management major, I tend to observe how managers operate, and I'm very critical of them. She in particular seemed to care about the quality of experience for the customer. Again, the group I was with and I had an awesome experience!
Review Source:Park Tavern rocks! This place has an amazing draft beer selection, great menu, and great staff. I came here hoping I could find a decent beer on tap only to find out they had over 15 of them. If you are in the area I would recomend checking this place out especially if your looking to watch a game as they have huge flat screens all around the resturant/bar
Review Source:After a day of shopping at The Jewelry Show, we found our way for lunch. Our server was polite, cheerful and very helpful. We ordered most of his suggestions. We split a couple appetizers and a salad. Presentation was lovely. Flavor combos were awesome. We had the little Jar of Jam, the roasted red pepper humus and the Spanish pear salad. YUM!!!!!!!! Wasn't trilled with my margarita but that's what I get for ordering it at a tavern that specializes in craft beers!!! Will definitely be back with our spouses. And to complete our girls "DAY" out..... they comped our parking! Thanks Abs! Hope to see you again.
Review Source:I went to Park Tavern on a girls night out and it was much fun! We went on a Friday and it was very busy which we enjoyed. The music being played was excellent, our food was delicious, and our drinks were well worth the money. We had a server named Ashley who was friendly and although she was busy really kept an eye on our table. We never had to wait long for our server to come by and take our orders. I would recommend Park Tavern for a girls night out to anyone looking for a fun place!
Review Source:Not from the area but always enjoy trying something new when I'm on the road for work. Staying at the aloft hotel so the tavern was just a short walk.
To begin with I was very impressed with the selection of beers on tap. While I expected typical bar/pub food I was pleasantly surprised with their food selection. My associate and I both had sandwiches. Mexibano had a nice kick to it and the shaved prime rib definitely did not disappoint. Bar tender was happy to make recommendations and point out subpar items to avoid.
Will definitely return on my next trip to Chicago.
I have been here a few times and always have a good experience. I especially like this place over the summer when we could sit outside upstairs and have a beautiful view of the Rosemont area.
The servers are always polite and the music is great! They also carry a nice selection of local and imported beers on tap that my husband enjoys trying. I haven't tried the food yet, but will try for sure next time I come!
I dig this place. My ginger and I always end up here whenever we're in Rosemont. I get what people say about the service, as the servers all seem to be on the down slope of a coke binge (not that I'd know what that's like,) but the bartenders on the other hand are pretty good. Nick (I think that was his name) spent 5 minutes finding the Bruins game for me, gave great advice on beers (Wild Onion Double IPA,) and conversed when appropriate.
The beer selection is great, the food is solid (tater tot poutine with an egg, amiright?) I'll be back.
You know you're getting old when the music is so loud, you can't even taste your food. Â Maybe I was just annoyed bc it's a sports bar & restaurant, so why not just turn up the volume on the games instead of the 90s sound track?
My server was nice and took good care of me. Â The food was serviceable, nothing that tasty, but it was nice to have an option for a late dinner when you're traveling. Â Park Tavern is exactly what you think it is, no hidden gems or surprises.
This is a review on their night life.
We got in before there was a line, thank goodness 'cause I definitely didn't want to be waiting in the cold.
Right away I didn't like the crowd. Maybe it was just that night but I felt like I was in high school again. All I could hear were catty girls talking about each other, "Omg, look at the Snooki wanna be over there!", "Ew who the f*ck wears their hair with a big poof anymore?!", "Omg excussssse you!", When a guy would walk by "Gross don't touch me!", "OMG, OMG, OMG!". Â All I could think was, shoot me. I even avoided the bathroom just because I didn't want to be surround by these creatures.
The bar was small and crowded. The music was great though! Would I come again...no.
Ok, ok. I finally have figured out the whole Rosemont Park and I'm not all salty anymore.
I went here one night on a weekend out for drinks and Park was absolutely packed. The music was fun, and I got my double vodka's in a decently timely manner - I would probably actually give 4 stars for the "nightlife" experience.
More recently though, I came here for dinner after attending a seminar at a nearby hotel for work. It was pretty dead, around about 5:30. We placed our order and I asked our server for her opinion between two drinks I was looking at and she made her suggestion. I went with it.
Our appetizer came out, spicy calamari. It was decent, but really not spicy at all. I was hoping for some heat! All the while, I'm wondering where my drink is. I see the waitress come out of the kitchen, look at my table, and then run to the bar. She clearly forgot about me and my drink. I ended up having the pineapple & jalapeno mojito, which, if you know me at all you would have predicted. The waitress suggested I not get the shot of jalapeno juice or syrup in it cuz then it's really spicy, so I didn't. All I can tell you is my mojito tasted like a Ricola cough drop. So if you're into that, go for it....
Then I had the lamb french dip. I'd actually never had a french dip before, but I do really like lamb so I decided to go for it. BEST. CALL. EVER. However, I don't particularly care for swiss cheese (ok, I hate it) so we switched it to pepperjack or something crazy like that. It comes on a baguette which was perfect. You definitely need to partake in both the au jus and mustard aioli.
The house cut fries were bomb too, I really can't complain about the sandwich at all. I highly recommend it.
Beers on tap - 4 stars
Games on screens - 4 stars
Service -2 stars
Food - 2 stars
I'm sitting at the bar as I'm typing this. Took 10 mins for someone to get me a drink, they dont have an impressive menu, so i ordered some tacos. I've been waiting 25 mins for my food. I'm about to walk out and go next door.
and thats what I did - asked for a status on my meal, they couldnt give me one so I asked for my money back. Went to Gibsons instead... Dont regret it at all!
Like everyone has mentioned, it is a pain to get to. Â I pretty familiar with the layout and still can't figure out where to park. Â For a place that's all bars - you need maximum signage so drunk folks can find their car to sleep it off.
Park Tavern has some super dodgy servers - it's like everyone that works there is super sad to be there. Â I know the service industry sucks done days but it seemed like all employees had just been yelled at and then docked for the time of had taken.
We saw a lot of people getting the pulled pork tator tots poutine and decided to try it. This was a few nights after the stuffed pulled pork tater toys at The Boarding House so these seemed bitter.
The main entrees at our table were delicious. A stuffed burger and the Mexibano which was poorly named because it was a pulled pork sandwich but good none-the-less.
The real treat here was my Sidecar - one of the best since last summer. Â Their bartenders are bordering on mixologists and everything that came out was awesome. Â I don't think I'd make Park Tavern a special trip, but I might pop in again if I'm in the area for a movie or something...
This was my first visit to anywhere in the MB Financial Park area, and I was super excited about a double date with my bestie and her husband. We were a few minutes late for our reservation (7, to be exact) due to mass confusion about how to get in, where to park, where the heck is the garage, etc. When we arrived, I told the hostess we had a reservation. She promptly informed me that it had been canceled because we were late. Apparently they cancel all reservations as soon as the party is 8 minutes late. When she explained this to me, I pulled out my phone, and it was 7 minutes after 9, and I showed her that it hadn't even been 8 minutes yet. Then she went and spoke to a couple of people and was able to eventually get us a table within a few minutes. Ridiculous policy, if you ask me. I should have been made aware of this while making my reservation, or they could have called to see if we were still coming - regardless, they canceled it before our so-called "grace" period was up, which was super annoying on a busy saturday night.
We started with the spicy calamari for our appetizer and almost immediately sent it back. Unfortunately, the calamari was bad, old, spoiled, just plain ick - I've never had calamari taste that gross and fishy. Luckily they took it off the bill. We also all split one of their daily specials, the truffle mac & cheese - this. was. delicious. creamy, cheesy, truffle-ey - if i wouldn't go into a gluten-induced coma by eating the whole bowl, I would have done so.
I don't remember what everyone else got, but I do know that I had the pulled chicken tacos - topped with creamy avocado, salty chihuahua cheese, and slightly spicy charred corn pico, these were perfection. I loved every bite, and I would totally go back here just for more of these.
Loved the beer selection, plenty to choose from. Loved the music, it was super fun - however, a little loud for dinner. I think we were there at the weird crossover time where people started to come out to meet friends for drinks at the bar, hence the loud music and difficult walk to the restroom. I'll be back - I just hope they don't cancel my reservation again ;)
Came here on a whim....ok, actually got stuck going into the parking garage and thought what the ummmm, heck...why not.
The food was good. Â Well, I ordered the black bean soup. Â Which tasted great, but looked like a dip. Â Really not what I was thinking of.
Service and decor was very good too. Â I just am not feeling any more stars here.
Sorry, Rosemont
At 4pm on a Saturday early in December, the manager was hooking up Christmas lights on a 20 foot ladder in a way that would have had OSHA screaming. Â The worst of it was how he was barking orders at the servers and hostess stand from his perch in a very unfriendly way. Â Very strange and remarkably unpleasant intro to this place. Â It's a nice room but the whole service thing seems a bit confused. Â
We were a group of eight and wanted to move from the bar to a table. Â There were empty tables everywhere but they really didn't want us to move to a table because there were reservations for an hour and a half later. Â After we assured them we would leave by then, they seemed to relax. Â
The beer flights at this gastropub themed bar were great and the room is very nice but I had a hard time getting over the staff issues. Â Oh, and the frozen hashbrown appetizer with an egg on it was just awful.
I like this place. It reminds me of a bar my grandfather had.
We sat outside on the patio. Not sure why people stay stuck inside on beautiful days.
The menu looked delicious and we placed our order quickly. I was starving and needed food. Too bad it took forever to get our food. The food was very good and probably worth the price. My friend got a huge sandwich and I got some varieties of taco.
Okay, I like a good joke but my friend was in no mood when the server commented that he couldn't believe she finished the sandwich. Nice, no surprise the tip was awfully light.
The interior is very nice, modern but comfortable. I will return to check it out in the evening.
I have been here a few times over the past two months or so. Â I have always had a pleasant experience. Â The decor is lovely, the staff has all been great.. Â The thing that keeps this place from receiving a higher rating is the food. Â
The food has all been just ok.  Nothing terrible, nothing standing out as exceptional.  However, in a town where the food for the most part is a big let down, this is  better than most of the options.
I have tried the tater tots with cheese and gravy. Â i have had the wings, the Mexican Sandwich and a few days ago, I had the green chili cheeseburger.. The burger is stuffed juicy luicy style and topped with green chills. Â
This sounds great on paper but, the problem is in the details.. The bun comes untoasted.. It is hard and thick and completely mutes the burger. Â The burgers that are stuffed have to be served medium well for some reason. Â So, now you get an overcooked burger with cheese that has mostly leaked out of the burger. Â The green chili was a pickled green chili and had very little heat and tasted mainly of whatever it was pickled in. Â Â So this leave you with the option of removing the bun and eating the overcooked hockey puck with a knife and fork. Â
But, they have a really nice tap selection. Â Cane and Ebel, Delirium Tremmons, Lagunitas, Dog Fish 90 minute IPS, Half Acre, Great Lakes, Revolution, Two Brothers and Founders to name a few. Â
I don't see why they wouldn't further the list with bottles but, it may be a logistical thing. Â
Also, I feel like the Delerium Tastes a little rusty the last time or two I was there.. But, it could be the difference from tap to bottle. Â
All in all, it seems like a much better option over Toby Keiths or that cheesy Mexican Place Obligadas or whatever the hell it's called.
Overall: Really nice restaurant and bar with very innovative burgers (yeah, thats right - INNOVATIVE).
The Deets: Â Came here on a Sunday for lunch and wanted to try out the burgers and fries. Â Their "PT Bacon Burger" is a must-have for any burger fan. Â A giant 1/2 pound burger with bleu-cheese melted INSIDE and loads of bacon with more bleu-cheese on top, Â on a fresh pretzel bun. Â Very nicely cooked, and was an innovative way to prepare a burger with cheese.
Not only good burger, but they make their own fries (not frozen ones), livened up with some parsley/cilantro.
Though I didn't have any beers, they have an extensive beer list all on tap (at least 15+ beers from all over the world). Their prices are so-so for the alcohol, but it would be interesting to see their deals (if they have any).
Come hungry, get some fries, leave happy.
We saw a feature about this new little area on 190 North and decided to pop in when we saw the lights beckoning from the highway. After navigating the clusterfuck that is the parking lot, we selected Park Tavern because:
a) It wasn't the Toby Keith Bar and
b) The craft beer menu sounded more appealing than the Irish bar
I'll cut to the chase, complexes like this and dressed up sports bars like Park Tavern aren't my scene.
Park Tavern was promising - nice craft beer menu, specialty cocktail list, decent looking food, cool decor using those filament lights and hooks under the bar to hang your coat or purse. Where the wheels fell off the wagon was ambiance. For a place that looks really laid back, it's loud on weekends. Ridiculously loud. Shouting at my date, imitating a hearing aid commercial - loud. The down side to those cool filament bulbs is that without the TV's it's also dark. (really dark when most of the TV's black out while you're at the bar). This place would be cozy or romantic, if it weren't loud and featuring a clubby soundtrack.
The final disappointment was two gentlemen told us, seconds after we dropped $13 on parking, that Park Tavern should have validated us. If I was a server or bartender, I would lead with this. We would've gladly thrown a fiver his way for the helpful money saver.
Bottom line: Not great, not terrible and not a destination in my book.
Anyone who drives on I-294 near the airport has seen this restaurant on the east side of the road by the big Muvico. Â But the question is . . .how do you get there?
After a few stops and starts (enter from River Road, turn on Bryn Mawr road, go to the end, through the parking garage and around to the back . . .easier than it sounds) we found our way.
We were on our way to O'Hare on a recent Saturday, and we decided to stop in for a quick lunch. Â We pulled open the door and walked into an empty building. Â Seriously. Â Empty. Â Not a staff person to welcome us, no hostess, not a bartender, no one . . .I wondered if it was even open. Â But someone spied us from the back and instantly the place sprang into action with people taking their posts. Â
We had our choice of seats and chose a spacious booth along the side wall. Â The ambiance is basically a contemporary sports bar with TV's lining the bar and high tops, booths and tables surrounding the bar. Â This place looks like it has potential and I had seen a short piece on the news a few weeks ago about their "Beer Can chicken" and it sounded like something I'd like to eat.
But it was when our server came to the table where things fell apart. Â Either he wasn't a good server, or this place has so many rules on what can and cannot be done that he cannot do his job. Â But whatever the reason, my friend and I just kept shaking our heads as we couldn't believe what was being told to us.
First up I ordered a Bloody Mary. Â The server made a face at that and when I asked him if they were good here he said, "No. Â I'd probably go with one of our specialty drinks", directing me to the list in the front of the menu. Â What? Â Any bartender in the world can make a Bloody Mary- so I ordered one anyway and it was quite tasty with just the right amount of hotness.
The next issue was when they described the mac and cheese of the day- we were told that the meat that came with it only came medium. Â We couldn't order it rare or well done . . .that led me to believe that it was pre made so we didn't order it. Â We asked about the fish of the day and our server said there wasn't one at lunch (even though it was on the lunch menu).
But the real kicker came when I asked if they could cut our burger in half in the kitchen. Â The server told me "No, they weren't allowed to". Â What the heck is with this place?? Â How many things were we going to be told were bad or that they couldn't do? Â And what happened to the adage of the "customer always being right?"
And the management of this place should really be concerned as this guy was training a new person so this legacy of bad service is being "taught" to other servers. Â If this guy was the best they had, this place is going to be in trouble.
So why 3 stars you may ask?
The saving grace was that the food, and the drinks were quite good. Â We weren't asked how we wanted our burger cooked and it came out pretty rare so if you don't like that, you better insist that you want it more cooked. Â But the PT burger with it's bacon and blue cheese on a pretzel roll was quite tasty. Â And we substituted Parmesan truffle tater tots for the fries (love tots!)- although I question how they call them truffle tots as there was no flavor of truffle on them but the grated cheese was a nice touch.
The bartender also did try to accommodate our request to watch a particular game on one of the TV's but she, unfortunately, couldn't find it.
They have invested quite a bit In this place, by running over 20 beer lines to the bar so they have quite a selection of beers on tap and I like the way that they describe and arrange them in the menu so that they make sense. Â They also allow you to do flights of 4 beers which was also a nice touch. Â
But the service is going to kill this place. Â Either get rid of all these inane rules and be a restaurant that serves food the way people want it, or get servers that want to serve.
When you are a restaurant that has to be a destination given your location, you need to be firing on all cylinders. Â This place appears to have good food, it's the service that leaves something to be desired.
This place is quite an establishment. Being new to this whole Rosemont development I found this area that Park Tavern is located to be extremely fun and exciting. Â The weekends are insanely busy, crowded, and hot (temperature wise of course).
The music is good on the weekends. However, when my friend requested a song the DJ laughed in her face and never played it! Not my idea of a true DJ. We were both thinking "who does this guy think he is!" Â The music was a hip-hop song, right in line with everything else he was playing. So I'm knocking a star down for that. (BTW because he was rude by laughing at us and not playing it, we left)
When it's not busy pumping pop music and hip hop on the weekends this bar is for sports fans. Â They've got dozens of HD flat screens throughout the bar, TONS of different beer choices, and some A.M.A.Z.I.N.G food. Or, at least I truly enjoyed it. Â We've had spicy calamari, the steak tacos, the animals tots (especially 'mmmm'), and a pulled pork chipotle sandwich. Seriously this food is great for a dinner for two or a late night craving. Â I've ate here a few times. But , trust me, this is not diet food!
Once again, a negative: Â My boyfriend and I went there on a Sunday. The place says it is open 12:00 AM. At about 11:00 PM they were already closing up. Putting chairs on top of the bar, turning off the music, the kitchen staff was sitting publicly and talking loudly. Â In my opinion, that's bad service. What a way to kick out your customers. I'll take my tip back for that, please!
Anyways, if those situations had not happened they would have gotten 5 stars. I hate docking people for laziness but come on guys, it's your job! Play our music, DJ! Be hospitable, servers/bartenders! We're the reason you have jobs. Just an FYI.
