Way OK place. The first time that I went to the Peacock room was when I went to check out my friend's band who was playing one night.
The venue divided up into a couple of rooms. A showcase room, a room where bands or shows happen with a stage, and then the bar area. There are paintings on the walls which were really awesome. I only wish I could afford them!
The service from the bartenders were all right. The first bartender I had was eh. After an hour of us being there, she asked me to close out my tab because she was leaving/closing out her shift. The way of her asking me to close it out was more of an annoyed tone than a "please can you close it out so I can get my tip I would really appreciate it." Oh well. Â Closed it out and the second bartender I had was much more friendly and actually had a smile on his face.
Overall, I had an all right experience but not a super blow-me-away-with-your-guest-service-skills experience. Thumbs up on the artwork and décor.
First time at this place. This is a great little bar. They have some really nice artwork on display, a good selection of liquors for cocktails and a nice mellow vibe. The service by the doorman collecting the cover charge and the bartenders were all super professional and friendly. We thought the drink prices were decent to.
We specifically came out to see our friends band Vova Zen play and they were fantastic. They have a great mix of Ska and rock with lyrics infused with topical irony to great effect. We were particularly impressed with their horn player/vocalist. The next band playing was a nice blues rock band but were amped a little loud for such a small venue. On the plus side, they no longer allow smoking inside. We wouldn't not have been able to deal with smoking in such a small space so that is nice. And, if you have a smoker with you it is easy enough to step outside for a few, weather permitting.
Parking was decent too, which is always nice. We will definitely keep an eye on their calendar and head back for some more cocktails and tunes. The only minor tweaks that would make it more appealing, to us anyway; they could add to their liquor selections, I didn't see any Ketel One or Appleton Rum, and maybe make a little list out on the bar to help you choose a cocktail, also add some more craft beers on tap, or at least in bottles. Finally, as I mentioned previously, they could turn down the volume a little on some of the live music. You don't need everything cranked to high volume in a tiny room like that, it detracts from the performance. Believe me, I am a fan of loud rock music, but in an arena or stadium, not in a 30x40 room.
It was a little surprising that it wasn't busier, especially later on in the evening. So come out and support these guys, it really is a great little spot in a nice location, check it out if you get the chance.
This is my favorite bar on mills and I will give you 5 reasons why:
1. Bartenders provide great service, are super friendly and are very knowledgeable of shots and mixed drinks. After being in the venue for 20 seconds I was immediately greeted and was qued for service. She was quick, prompt and actually knew what a pickle back was. This is far from the other bartenders of Mills Avenue who open up a bottle of beer and hold out their hand and expect a great tip because they are way cool. Get bent.
2. Cool atmosphere. The art was from local artists who have talent. The theme was pop but it was enjoyable to be around nonetheless.
3. Booking arrangements here for bands are great. They may have double booking problems but no cover and a percentage of a bar cut are how all the small successful venues do it. Big props. Covers suck.
4. THEY HAVE LIQUOR. 'nuff said.
5. Crowd is great. Although I do love the occasional drinking marathon with the bros, it was awesome to be able to have intelligent conversations with people.
Props to you Peacock Room. I will be back soon.
