Ok I feel sorta bad reviewing this place at this point because I've only been there once, the place is like 20-25 minutes from my house, and it was carried out, so by the time it got home it had to have suffered a bit. NY style particularly doesn't endure this abuse well.
However, it was still really good! For the NY style, I think I lost any chance at a properly crispy-outside-chewy-inside crust with the drive. (Always vent the box, the loss of heat is worth decreasing the sog factor resulting from steam build up. Like fries. Transporter on this day may not have done this.) The flavor of the crust, cheese and sauce were very good, if not outstanding. Of those three the sauce could use the most improvement.
We also got a Chicago style - stuffed, with sauce on top, this thing was a BEAST. It was huge and really heavy! I ate it for days. Again, good, fresh-made tasting dough.
Only complaint on this one - it was a cheese and mushroom pizza - is a somewhat significant one: they used CANNED mushrooms. Do not like. C'mon people, even the big D uses fresh these days. Canned mushrooms dominate the pizza with the taste of can. Not pleasant.
Perhaps one of the best things about Perugini, aside from great local ownership, is that you can get a 14" NY style 1-top pizza everyday all day for $5! THAT is the best pizza deal in town, I assure you.
Looking forward to a return visit.
