Yeah I don't get the low stars... I mean buckle down for a longer meal but if you want faster there is a McDonalds about a half mile to a mile north.
Bar selection was awesome. Â A ton of small batch bourbons on display and you earn a bit of street cred when you have Maker's 46 behind the bar. Â Also the live Jazz music was a nice touch. Â This place was pretty much a ghost town though on a Tuesday evening.
Appetizers - tried and true Cobb salad. Â I wanted to avoid the blue cheese dressing but all of their house vinaigrettes were a bit artsy fartsy so I went with heart stopping blue cheese. Â A few team members went for the Tuna Tartare which looked amazing. Â Had a bit of Appetizer remorse after seeing that plate brought to the table
Main - I had the Marinated Yellowfin Tuna. Â Very good. Â I also saw a few people go for the steak and not many people left any remaining on their plates. Â Everyone seemed to be pretty happy.
Desert - unfortunately I got nothing. Â I had to drive a co-worker into the city so I left the dinner premature.
This is definitely a good spot though.
Very frustrating trip for a Steakhouse which charges $32.99 for a steak.
1. I asked for Medium-Rare and it was cooked Medium. Waiter didn't even come back and ask us about the food.
2. I ordered a glass of wine and had to remind the waiter 3 times. Took 25 minutes.
3. I ordered a Steak with a side of Spinach and Mushrooms, and there were no mushrooms.
4.. ***I had a lot of food left over and asked for a to go box. When I got home, they gave me someone else's food. Not even someone from my table: Some random guy's food. I was dumbfounded. It was filled with mac n' cheese and sweet potato fries. I had a steak.***
5. My family and I spent $350 here for okay food and terrible service.
EDIT:  After calling the restaurant and speaking with a manager, they were very sorry for the service. The manager offered me a giftcard for another steak, and  asked for the phone numbers of each person at the diner to apologize for the evening. I really appreciate the quality customer service.
Most of the $30 Brunch Buffets in this area seem to be in "Getaway Hotels", and probably for a reason. Â First, much of the audience is captive, and second, they often get the brunch as part of a package. Â This brunch is in a stand alone Steakhouse, and comes with a competent 3 piece "jazz" group (that plays mostly "lounge music", not real jazz). Â The brunch is as many on this site have described: Â relatively small and mostly undistinguished. Â The signature items seem to be the large cold shrimp, the Lox, and the Crab Legs. Â All were abundant at 1 pm when we were there. Â Lots of breakfast items, which I skipped, mostly looked to be in the "Free Breakfast at Country Inns" category. Â Prime Rib was mostly cooked medium and was not nearly like that which they serve at dinner. Â Some good sides and vegetable items. Â Deserts were mostly one chocolate cake and some one inch square "fruit bars", plus, oddly, do-it-yourself S'mores (sans a fire). Â Half the desert table was bagels, donuts, and hotel-conference sized sweet rolls. Â Service was pleasant, but understaffed, so drinks came late and refills were rare. Â Even with the Groupon 2'fer, it was not particularly worth it.
Review Source:The food is great, but the service is absolutely terrible.
I didn't realize that we needed a reservation, but the bar is fine. No big deal. I then asked the "maître de" if we could have the booth by the bar, and he asked if we had reserved it. We didn't so settled at a table. When we left nearly 2 1/2 hours later, said booth was still empty.
When we got to the table, we got our water filled after about 5 minutes. It took another ten for a waitress to even acknowledge us. We informed her that we were waiting for 2 more, and she said ok. Our friends arrived maybe 10 minutes later, and again absolutely no acknowledgement from the wait staff. Nobody offered them water, and the waitress didn't come back for ANOTHER 20 minutes after they sat down. Not to mention that our friend had to go up front to make a phone call and informed the hosts that our waitress didn't acknowledge us!
She took our order. We asked for more bread, which took forever for us to get. Still no food, not even the soups we ordered. Finally after waiting about 20-25 minutes after ordering, we got our soups and appetizers. They tasted great, but nobody cared to ask how they were. We got our main course relatively timely to the appetizers, and actually got asked how they were! Surprise!
We then asked the waitress to split the check. Apparently it was very difficult, as she must not have appropriately punched it in by seat number. We got it figured out, paid, and left. This is one of the only times I didn't leave AT LEAST 20%. I don't believe in tipping less than 20%, but seriously this server didn't  deserve it. We still left her $15 on $88, and if I hadn't had server experience and felt guilty, I probably would have left $5 and a nasty note.
Upon leaving the restaurant the hosts didn't even bother saying bye or goodnight, as they were too busy chatting amongst themselves.
Sorry, I don't know about everyone else, but if my husband and I go out and spend $100 on a meal for ourselves, I expect to have at least average service. This service was so below average, that even the delicious food couldn't pick up the star count for this one.
Pete millers, I think it's time to get a whole new crew, or have a major training session on the staff you have. It is completely unacceptable! You really ought to be embarrassed hiring such horrible staff for such a "high class" restaurant!
Updating review now that I've had a chance to try their brunch. Â I still can't figure out the bad reviews. Â We came right at opening (10:30 am) for their Jazz brunch buffet. Â Made reservations and was seated in a few minutes of getting there. Â The buffet room is in a different part of the restaurant than the main dining area. Â It was small but there were plenty of selections to keep everyone happy. Â Small bread/bagel section, salad section, hot foods section (with some breakfast and lunch options), cold seafood section, fruit and dessert section, egg/omelete station, and a carving station. Â I had a little bit of everything, but I was mainly there for the prime rib. Â It was done in a perfect medium rare, but a tad underseasoned. Â A little au jus and salt solved that issue. Â I also really enjoyed the breakfast potatoes. Â I read other yelpers complaining that they don't refill the food, but that's not the case at all. Â In the hour or so I was there, I saw them refill several items even before it was completely empty. Â Perhaps the key is to not arrive during the end of the service? Â Our waitress was also very nice, and checked on us several times, including refilling our beverages as needed. Â The only thing that prevented this from being a 5-star review is the fruit. Â None of the fruit was ripe...honeydew, cantaloupe, and watermelon were all very bland and not sweet at all. Â That was unfortunate because I really enjoy fruits after a brunch buffet.
Review Source:Went today for brunch, and i was not impressed. I had the groupon which was 2 people for $30, a good deal. The brunch was extremely small, only 3 tables and not much food. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, omelette station (the omelettes were comically tiny), bagels, and then there was prime rib, turkey, mashed sweet potatoes, rice, green beans and orange chicken. Like Chinese food orange chicken. And it was the most delicious thing there. The orange chicken, green beans, and turkey were the only foods worth eating. Everything else was not good at all. Edible, but not good. The first time we went up there were no crab legs, the second time there was a small pile. My friend and I grabbed a few to share and they started out ok, until I got a bite of one that was intensely foul. I couldn't eat another bite after that. The prime rib wasn't bad, but the whole thing was cooked medium - medium well. I prefer my prime rib medium rare. Like I said not bad for the Groupon price but I won't be returning.
Review Source:My husband and I went for the Sunday brunch. Â They had an omelette station as well as a carving station with prime rib or turkey. Â A server was at each station. Â
Also included were crab legs and medium sized shrimp. Â They had a variety of breakfast items, ie... scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, ham, sausage, bacon, as well as chicken, risotto, green beans and a variety of bagels/pastries. They were constantly refilling the food trays and all the food was hot and fresh. Our server was attentive. Â It's not a large brunch, but it has a decent variety of items. Â The brunch runs from 10:30am-2:30 pm. Â We went early and had an enjoyable experience, Â At $29 per person, it's pricey, but with the 1/2 price Groupon the price was right.
Had anniversary dinner here last night. Â Really want to to give more stars but when your Med rare steak comes med well and it takes so long to get a new one that you wave it off then you get what you deserve. I did like the room and my wife's prime rib was excellent. The onion rings where not so good and I would pass on it. Â They did take the steak off the bill and my drinks which was a good gesture.
Review Source:Bought a Groupon, yaaaay. Â Still not sure if it was worth it, booooooo. Â Ok, so maybe it was kind of worth it as it was a buy one brunch get one free but still. Â Walked in with the wife and we were seated right away at a bar like table which was fine since we had no reservations and didn't feel like waiting 45mins. Â First time here period. Â The brunch buffet was a small line in a medium room set up in a 'C' shape. Â Get you plate and make your way around the room. Â Choices were decent. Â They had your standard sausage and bacon to oysters and crab legs. Â $29 a person it may seem fine but 10 out of 10 times I'd definitely go to the casino buffet. Â
My favorite dish here was the sausage and waffles. Â That's not saying too much. Â The prime rib was Old Country Buffet standard. Â Like beef, fully cooked just really tender. Â Service was below average. Â Ordered a coffee after I brought my first plate and got it 10 mins prior to leaving and no, we did stay longer than 10 mins.
IF the service was PERFECT, i would give three stars for sure. Â There will still be a void between three and four which without major quality control, would never be reached.
I did like the live music and... did I say the waffles? Â
If you're over 50 and have nothing to do but eat mediocre food, you'll like it here. Â That is all.
Bread: 5 Stars
Firecracker Shrimp: 3 Stars
Sea Bass: 3 Stars
Chimichurri Steak: 4 Stars
Grouper: 4 Stars
Kansas City Strip: 4 Stars
Service: 0 Stars
The food was decent but you hurt your business when the service is sub-standard. Â Server P.M. needs to smile more and NOT ASK IF YOUR PARTY IS READY TO PAY THE BILL.
At first she was annoyed that we asked to look at the steak menu. The food was actually pretty good. Â The music was sort of a nuisance in the adjacent dining room if you were trying to carry on a conversation. Â After non-existent service, she brought the bill out. Â Within 6 minutes, she had asked if I was done with the bill (3) times!
I spoke to the manager at the front desk (or perhaps just a host in a suit) and he didn't seem to give any regard to the fact our party of (4) was displeased. Â So if you don't care Pete Miller's Steakhouse, here is an Internet forum to thwart would-be customers.
Wow! Â Another beautiful evening sitting outside, lights in the trees, torches flaring. Â Best of all, the good service added to the excellent food, and using a groupon gave value to the meal. Â First we sat at the outdoor bar for a Stella, $6.00, funny bartender! Â Our table was great and we had the same waiter as before, great recommendation for salmon carpaccio! Â Tilapia with mustard and pineapple, trout with Parmesan, sweet potatoes, all perfect!
Review Source:Not bad, not bad at all. Â
We got there just about 7:30PM. Â The place was full with a lively feel and sound. Â Reservations are needed if you plan to eat before 8:00PM, but we only had a 10 minute wait then seated in the dining room. Â The lounge is open seating, but if you want to talk to each other the music can be a bit loud. Â That all depends on who is singing, but also what they sing. Â There are two dinning areas on either side of the lounge. Â Both are great since you can still hear the music and in some cases still see the performers.
When it came to the food, there were no complaints. Â The calamari was very good. Â I was surprised they left the pieces large which made it extra special.
I ordered the lamb and it was not only cooked to perfection, it was full of flavor and definitely a fresh cut of meat.
No room for dessert, but I looked at the dessert menu for future reference. Â I can see stopping by for after dinner drinks and dessert. Â I will have to try each one since the difficult would be choosing just one.
Looking forward to my next visit soon.
All I can say is the breakfast buffet is a complete rip off. Â They didn't have enough food and it was so disorganized no one could get thru the line. Â so for $30 I got iceberg lettuce, some fruit, a Danish that wasn't very good, a piece of prime rib was mediocre and no sauce to go with it and some crab legs that our waitress actually had to bring to us from the kitchen since there was NO FOOD.... A buffet with 80% of the items completely empty!!! Â I thought if I ate my salad and came back I'd give them time to fix it...nope. Â Ill never go back as it doesn't appear this was a one time issue.. As it was I could hear the wait staff discussing how they had to hurry people out of the back room because they had a giant party coming in and no one should have been seated there... Seemed to me the cooks and wait staff were more worried about the private event than the fact there was no food on the buffet line.
I've had better food at $15 buffets..if I'm spending $30 a person ill go to port Edwards or pappadeoux or any of 20 other places that have so much better service and food. Â I'm pretty sure their deserts were made from a box mix...seriously??? Â They should be ashamed
This review was for the Sunday brunch. We made sure to try a small bit of just about everything. Overall, the food was good--the salad and fruit, while not in great variation, was fresh and very good. We both also had crab legs, which I felt were a bit below average. Meat (carved beef and pork) were both solid choices. There were several potato dishes, but very few vegetables. We did not have the made-to-order omelet but it looked very popular, and the eggs and ham dishes were both okay.
All in all, the food was good, but in pretty limited variation. No beverages are included in the $29 price.
Service was VERY mixed. The people doing their jobs all seemed excellent--friendly and eager to help. However, there were just too few of them. A management problem I would say. As an example, the place was packed at noon, and I saw only one guy trying to clear plates. At the buffet, there was no one in sight on two trips up, and each time there were no large plates.
Probably between 2 and 3 stars, with the lower rating based on what I felt was a much too high a price for what was offered.
Just to let you know. I went here with my family on Friday, July 12, 2013. We had a reservation for eight people at 7:00. I feel bad for my Mother who hosted us and out of town family for having to pay for this and for being embarrassed by bring out of town guests here. I was being very kind in this review.
I don't know what has happened to this place. I went here last about 7 months ago with my family and it was wonderful. Went last week and it was awful. The patio was full and it seemed there was a party going on. The dining room was empty except for a few tables when we got there. We were seated in between two occupied tables for some reason. The waitress was doing her best, but without any help she couldn't do her job properly. It took us 1 and 1/2 hours to get  most of our food. Three meals had to be sent back because they were cold. Still, not all the sides had made it to the table. Dirty dishes hadn't been removed from the table and water glasses were not refilled. When meals did come out, they were dry, poorly seasoned and tiny portions. At the table next to us, half the party left because they couldn't wait anymore. Another table got up and got the water pitcher on their own. For a pricey place I would expect wonderful meals and service
With the new ownership this place has fallen completely flat. Food has become inconsistent, new hires seem insufficiently trained, management has been downright argumentative at times, and the place has become pretty vacant and depressing. I think the writing was on the wall when I could no longer get fresh brewed ice tea. Used to go almost once a month but since the ownership change (over 1 year ago) we've only been there 2-3 times more. Sigh, the end of a great steakhouse.
Review Source:I've been to Pete Miller's many times and really enjoy the patio in the summer for cocktails. Â Today my friends and I decided to try their Sunday brunch for the first time. Â It was BY FAR the worst brunch I've ever been to....even paying 1/2 price with a Groupon.
There was mold on the blueberries and raspberries
They had one person both making omelets and manning the carving station
The hot food was seldom replenished -congealed cold pasta and cold scrambled eggs.
There were very few choices including no sweet rolls or bagels of any kind which are usually a brunch staple.
The $29 price does not include coffee...what??!
The bread pudding was completely dried out and there was no bourbon sauce.
The waffles were cold and soggy
Needless to say we complained to the manager and got our entire table of 7 comped. Â I'm getting a refund for my Groupon and will not be going here for brunch again.
Had the queens cut prime rib, creamed spinach with mushrooms, sweet potato fries (BOOM! - the cream cheese with cinnamon was that fantastic). I had the BBQ ribs and it was falling off the bone and nibbling & eating off the bone good. Let me back up, the hot, soft, fresh bread along with whipped butter deserved an encore so we had two small loaves. A little out of the way for us as the Evanston location is closer but the food was very good and the seating next to the bar allowed us to watch many flat screens simultaneously.
Review Source:I was happy that the beef was grass fed (if I remember correctly), but I recall it being a bit chewy. It was definitely not the best filet mignon I've had in awhile, and a solid 3. Also, our server was friendly and helpful, but a little *too* available - always checking in on us, just as my colleagues and I were in the midst of an interesting / important topic of conversation, so I found that a bit frustrating. Solid 3 all around.
Review Source:Not like it used to be. Â Everything slow even with reservations. 40 mins from arrival to waiting for bread that was raw in middle. Â Allowed to order one side, nothing else with meals so we ordered two each. Â I would think ordering/paying your own would cut down on waste. Â
The tuna was strange. Â We ordered medium rare and it was all blue red, no sign of searing even, anywhere. Â It was also very cold not just the middle. Â They said normal. Â I had said just so it's not red, pink is fine. Â Red in very middle is actually fine but wanted to see what they do first. Â I think they forgot to cook before bringing out. Â We've not had cold anywhere else.
Even rare should be seared on all sides preferably for 2 mins each side. Â Medium rare should be cooked down to 1/4" on both sides with rare in middle which might be still cool. Â Potatoes were also cool and couldn't taste garlic. Â
Parmesean spinach was great and only one warm. Â Dessert was great. Â We took rest of fish and sides home to raccoon. Â
Also though band was a great cover band they were not playing jazz, it was Coldplay, Phil Collins type.
This long time customer had a total bust tonight at Pete Millers and won't be going back. A few days ago my wife called and asked what time the music started and if we could reserve a table near the band. We saw who was listed as entertainment on the website and were impressed with the online samples of the band and we were looking forward to a night of great music and food.
We were told the bar area doesn't take reservations and that its first come first served, but that we should be able to get a table around 6:30. We were there at 6:30 and the only empty tables had reserved signs on them. The host said that they claimed a bunch of tables in the bar due to a large party, but he said he'd put us on the list for a table near the band and that he'd come and find us in the bar area.
Okay so we sat and had a few drinks and an appetizer, all of which were very good. Â Then the band came on - the acoustic guitarist started playing Green Day and REM cover songs. We asked if this was the opening act, but the bartender said this was the entertainment tonight. Never mind that the advertised music on the web site was totally different, the sign outside says live jazz 7 nights a week, and the restaurant is touted as a jazz lounge. The bartender further added that people like to listen and dance to this music on the weekends.
So fine, the music is not jazz and it sucks, but the food is good, so I go to tell the host that we can sit wherever - not needing to be near the band. He looks at me not recognizing at all and asked if we had a reservation. I said we were the people who you told to wait in the bar and that you'd come and find us when a table comes up... Oh sorry sir but the wait for a table is about 1 hour now.
I started going to the Evanston location 18 years ago to hear live jazz and I decided to try this location after moving out of the city. What a disappointment, both in advertising and customer service.
Well one of the worst food experiences i ever had at any upscale steak house...I ain't sure whether it was becoz of the Groupon. I went there to have seabass but they were out of it
It could be becoz I was there on a weekday around 9.15 pm .. The place was close to empty...  ...We ordered FIRECRACKER SHRIMP as apetizer...That was the only saving grace.. The other order we placed were PAN ROASTED WHITEFISH(had to order that as they were out of seabass)  and LOBSTER MAC & CHEESE...The white  fish was the worst dish I ever had in any other restaurant.Common they donot serve this bad even in the hospitals ...Tht was a rip off.
The lobster mac and cheese was average.... The place is not even worth spending $30 ....even with a groupon I Â belive its a rip off... Absolute no no from me ....
I was hoping to find a cozy spot to have a drink and a bite with my wife one evening after work. A reprieve from The Ram mostly because we always meet up at the Ram and I'm getting a little burnt on that place; so I stepped into Pete's first time to see if it would fit the bill.
First impression accounting:
The first thing you notice from the road is the flames on the torches.
Second thing you notice from the road is the $5 grey goose special on the board.
The first thing you notice when you enter the parking lot is the VIP parking.
The first thing I notice besides the VIP is that the parking lot is empty (not a good sign)
Another minus in my book, it was not clear where the VIP parking started or ended.
Another minus, I had to squeeze between the idling high roller car pulled up to the entrance canopy by the valet to get into the establishment.
Upon entry, I took note of their business hours, open until 10pm. I walk past the front desk towards the bar, straight shot, there's a waiter standing there and I ask to confirm closing time, the waiter falters and says 9:30pm. I mention the door says 10pm and he comes back that they will probably close at 9:30pm tonight.
I stick my head inside the bar, take note that they are dead and make a point of letting my new friend know that I see what he means.
An off night? perhaps
Awkward timing on my part? possible
Is it ever advisable to turn business away? most times no and especially if you wish to encourage repeat business.
So note to Pete, upon walking in your front door I was not made to feel welcome, or encouraged to stay longer, so why would I wish to sit down and have a beverage or bite?
It was my friend's birthday and a group of us offered to take him out for a steak dinner and gave him his choice of driving into the city or staying close to home in the Northshore. Â Even though he wasn't driving, and didn't need to worry about his cocktail consumption, he chose to stay close to home. Â My experience at Pete Miller's that evening leads me to believe that expedience typically does not deliver a satisfactory result. Â Or, to put it another way, no pain, no gain. Â The price of not wanting to drive an extra 15 minutes is you get mediocre steak. Â And a steak is a terrible thing to waste.
Pete Miller's is a perfectly adequate as a restaurant. Â There isn't really anything wrong with it, there just isn't really anything worth being excited about. Â Is it exciting? Â No. Â Is it bad? Â No. It just is. Â And frankly, that's not good enough.
Were the drinks ok? Â Sure, they were fine. Â Nothing special, but my Manhattan was competently made, though served in a perfunctory manner. Â My salad was also fine. Â Not too much dressing and nice crisp greens. Â Again, all good, but I can't remember much more than that.
The steak was another matter. Â Prices were pretty typical for a major steakhouse, but let's face it, the steak was nothing special. Â It was clearly not up to the caliber of the big places in the city. Â It was thinner and less marbled. Â And while it was grilled to the doneness I specified, it had no crust and was a bit limp. Â In my book that crust is all important. Â Without it, I could grill it at home and get a similar result for a fraction of the cost. Â And to top that off, the fries were limp and there were not enough.
Finally, the room was unfortunate. Â It was the front room of the restaurant and was a big, well lit, cavernous affair. Â I frankly felt like I was at some kind of banquet hall. Â Again, not the feel I was going for.
This was my last time at Pete Miller's - if I'm splurging for steak I'm doing it right and not compromising on proximity to my house.
We;ve gone several times, usually with a Groupon or just for drinks and music. Our waitstaff was extremely knowledgeable, fast and very nice. Filets were a perfect medium temp and the side dishes were amazing. I had the baked mac and cheese with my steak and my husband had the creamed fresh spinach. The Pete Miler's chopped salad was great to split for us, seeing as we got the Firecracker shrimp as an app. Perfect amount of heat on those, not burning your mouth but still so flavorful. Â
We've had some not so great dishes here in the past, but I think they're over the hump now - everything has been wonderful now. The live music is always a draw for us, there just aren't that many places where you have have a steak, drink, and music at a leisurely pace anymore. We will be going back! Â We love a good super club throwback. It reminds of you of a time when going out was going OUT and not just a chance to grab a quick bite.
One weird thing - we arrived for an early dinner (5:30ish) and were told they only had lounge seating available for us when there were tond of empties and a whole area not in use. There were plenty of tables in the lounge and I think we prefer to sit there anyways - but to be told that and see what we saw...kinda strange.
UPDATE: Â After sending in the below information to Pete Miller's website Steven contacted us within a couple hours offering us further restitution in which we used last night at the Evanston location. Â He even followed up via phone when he did not hear back from us via email.
We plan on reserving an upgrade to even more stars after we go to the Seafood Buffet in a month or so once they have the kinks out.  We were insured by Steven, who is the person who kept in contact with use the last  couple days and made sure we had a better experience last night, that what happened Friday night will not happen again.  In the meantime, GO EARLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO THE FRIDAY SEAFOOD BUFFET.
It was the the worst experience. Â We had a GROUPON for all u can eat seafood and prime rib buffet. We had 8 pm reservations. We were sat at 8:15. We were then not told until we inquired that they RAN OUT OF FOOD on the buffet at 7:45 pm. Then a manager lacking in customer service skills came by to offer us 25.00 and to order a 48.00 steak. I ate that steak there before and it was not worth it either. That is a true bate and switch. We went from a prepaid 72.00 value buffet that was already paid for through GROUPON to a very expensive dinner that we would have never picked that place had we not had the groupon. Needless to say we left - hungry and angry. Â We are now at a new place called North Branch where we dined last week and enjoyed it.
Firecracker shrimp soooo good!! Â A perfect medium spice for me. Â Also the bacon wrapped scallops with apple and whiskey reduction are tender, sweet and very delicious!!
My entree was prime rib which is what they specialize in. Very tender and delicious!! The au jus very flavorful with herbs and horseradish. Â I added Alaskan king crab to the entree for a surf and turf. Â I like that they slice the shell for you so you can easily eat it without incident or mess!!
I did not like the dessert of bananas foster though. Came out with the ice cream almost all the way melted and crepe was soggy.
Drinks were good too. I had the new old fashion. Those cherries are potent! Â Love! Their popular cocktail is the Bellini which my friends also enjoyed quite immensely, to sweet for me though. Â Because it was a party we had quite a few drinks and our server looked concerned and asked everyone if they had a ride home, which we all did! Â Wow!
During dinner we all enjoyed a live jazz band!! Â Huge plus!! Â We all had a very enjoyable evening!!
I have been here several times and I feel like Pete Miller's has gone down hill. Â The most recent time I went, we had a Groupon, so I am not sure if that made a difference with our food and service. Â
We had a reservation and they told us they were running a bit late. Â We waited over half an hour which kind of defeated the purpose of having a reservation. Â I was annoyed that they didn't offer us a drink or appetizer for the inconvenience.
I always order the buffalo calamari here. Â It is my favorite, but it is not on the menu- so you have to know to ask for it! Â We also split a chopped salad which was good. Â
I ordered the Trio of Filet medallions. Â I always like ordering this because it you get to try three different toppings with it. Â I was a little sad though because my steak was overdone.
I had two drinks while I was here.. the Cherry Limeade stood out as being my favorite of the night! Â We now make Cherry Limeade martinis at home! Â
Oh and the music in the bar is a bit loud!
Hmmh, last night was the second time I had visited Pete Miller's and well, Pete... I am not that impressed. The steaks claim to be aged for 21 days but it was ok. I have had better.
My friends had the caprese salad to start with and no complaints. Can't really mess that up, can you?
I had the famous 21 oz PETE'S BONE-IN RIB EYE. Yes, I am a girl and I can eat. Actually, I am very proud of it! Well Pete, if you are going to name a steak after yourself, it better be the best damned steak anyone has ever eaten. It was ok, the flavor was mild, good fat content, cooked perfectly as far as temperature goes. But my experience with aged emats is that they literally melt in your mouth and this, did not. Â Did I forget to mention that Pete charges $45 for this side of beef. I think this is a bit too pricey. What are you try to do here Pete? Pay for your gambling or my pretty pony addictions?
Pete, take a good look at your prices. I have to say, if you look past the price (you have to really look far to get past those prices), the food is still good. Good people, not great. I guess you are really paying fo the atmosphere more than anything else. Â
It was a Saturday night and the place was packed full! There was an awesome jazz band playing that we danced t and had a blast. Definitely the place to go in Wheeling. Everyone else seemed to like their food, no complaints.
Oh Pete, please turn the lights on a bit more. I couldn't even read my menu. No buenos!
Now for service. She was really nice, I will give her that. But, if you know Saturdays are packed then I recommend you get more waiters to help out. It took us forever to get our drinks, put our orders in and to get our foo. I don't know, I just expected faster service. She was great and we had fun. At the end of the day, that is all that matters.
Appetizers: 3 stars (out of 5)
Entree: 5 stars
Service: 7 stars
I was here for a party, and we were in a private room which was plenty spacious for about 15 people including kids. Appetizers were alright, served buffet style because it was a party. The steak I ordered, Kansas City bone-in strip, was cooked perfectly with a great sear and tasted amazing. I would have picked up the bone with my hands and gnawed it clean if that were socially acceptable. But the main reason for writing this review was the service. The young lady, Angela, was responsible for the entire party and she was by far one of the best I've ever seen. She was polite and courteous to the adults, and interacted great with the kids. A huge thumbs up for her!
Let's get this straight - Pete Miller is a dog. Â
My boyfriend and some friends decided to kick up our dining style and try Pete Miller's for steaks and a little outdoor relaxation. Â We like to eat late and knowing that the kitchen closed at 9, my boyfriend called to make reservations. Â Megan, the hostess who answered the phone, told him that as long as we made it by 8:30, we wouldn't need to make a reservation as long as we were aware of closing time.
Upon arriving at 8:24, we were informed by the hostess on duty, Lizzz, that Megan hadn't indicated our arrival and had conveniently left for the night, as well as many of the kitchen staff and additional servers. Â This led to some awkward standing around and looking hungry, while Lizzz went to consult the Volturi of Pete Miller's to decide our fate.
It was decided: kitchen was closed, enjoy your drinks at the bar and order dessert if you like. Â It was 8:33.
Our group was stunned. Â How did our steak lovers night turn into this? Â And then Alex, the bartender, single-handedly turned the entire evening around for our group. Â I don't know if he actually went back and cooked our meals while making us drinks, but he somehow convinced the kitchen to "re-open" and he personally gave us the best service and attention that we could have hoped for. Â
We sat outside on the fantastic patio (which 7 minutes before we had been told that we could not sit there, as there were no more outside servers) and had a solid dinner: oysters - yum!, calamari, green salad, prime-rib medium with garlic mashed potatoes. Â Alex lit the fireplace, made sure we had drinks and the evening turned into quite an enjoyable one.
If there was no Alex, this review would have been 0 stars but to be fair I've given it 3 stars as an average rating for the weirdness at the beginning but the turnaround service later that evening.
My boyfriend had a LivingSocial coupon for this place so we decided to stop by for dinner on a Friday night. Â We had never been before and were always interested to try it out. Â I also read that they had a great patio for outdoor dining.
The patio is absolutely amazing! Â You can barely tell that you're sitting next to a major four lane road. Â They have two large fireplaces to give it a nice homey feel.
The food was pretty good, but a bit expensive in my opinion. Â We started out with the bread, which had some garlic butter on it. Â It was nice and warm - no complaints.
We then enjoyed the lobster bisque soup, but I found it very expensive at $5 a cup.
For entrees, I had the 7oz filet mignon and added Parmesan crust (for $1.99) with the herb mushrooms. Â The boyfriend had a 14oz NY strip with the garlic mashed potatoes. Â We both enjoyed our steaks.
In fact, he bought more LivingSocial coupons so we will be back and definitely will need to try the location in Evanston.
Oh, and the vibe of the place is OK - kind of an older crowd. Â There was a live band in the bar area of the restaurant as well. Â Also, the patio is huge so it's good for groups.
Good experience and would come back (though not without a coupon since it was somewhat expensive).
If you're thinking about dining here, please allow me to give you one piece of advice: DON'T. You will regret it and will have spent a lot of money for this regret. Last evening, my buddy and I decided to go here as we were staying at the Westin and this place has live entertainment every evening (btw...the musician was awesome, and that's why I don't feel so bad that I am forced to give this place one star). Upon arrival, the host was not very welcoming and generally seemed to not want to be there. We sat in a booth near the bar and immediately regretted this decision. Besides the very rude customers who were also very loud, the bartender (who also happened to be our server) bad-mouthed them throughout the evening.
By the time we got our meal, neither of us had much of an appetite. My buddy ordered chicken parm (yeah, I thought that was a bad idea as well) and got two huge slabs of chicken and about a large spoonful of noodles. It looked almost as bad as it sounds. The portion was more than anybody could ever eat and the restaurant seemed wasteful. I ordered tilapia and after asking what came with it, was told "anything you want". I ordered mashed potatoes thinking I'd also get vegetables. That was not the case.
At one point I asked the waiter what the restaurant was trying to go for with regard to a general food theme and he shrugged his shoulder. That's completely unacceptable and is a sure sign of a restaurant without direction.
In short, the food, service, and general atmosphere of the restaurant last night left quite a bit to be desired. I won't be returning and if you're smart, you won't go either.
Horrid! Â Is there a worse word I can use? Â Went here for Easter brunch today and it was DISGUSTING!!!!!! Â For four of us, the bill was over 200 dollars and we barely ate anything because the entire buffet was FILTHY! Â There was dropped food all over the tables, the floor was a disgusting mess of crushed chips and food. Â I picked up three different plates that were supposed to be clean at three different plate stations and all three were either greasy or had food on the them that did not come clean. Â The waffle bar was a disgusting sticky mess of syrup and discarded toppings. Â The seafood was picked over and gross. Â The Ahi Tuna was literally GRAY, not even edible. Â I love prime rib and I love it rare but this prime rib was RAW, I felt like I was eating a tongue. Â The pork was undercooked and after those two experiences I was going nowhere near anything else.
None of the food was filled and it was just such a disgusting mess no one wanted to eat. Â I heard many people complaining about this and I am not surprised if more people will complain like I am tomorrow to the manager.
Such a disappointment as we go tot eh Evanston location all the time and love it. Â I have never in my life been to such a dirty buffet, even Old Country is cleaner than this was. Â
Shame on you Pete Millers for charging people so much for this crap. Â Clean your bathrooms too? Â The bathrooms were horrendous. Â I just cannot believe this was Easter Sunday at Pete Millers.
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL
To quote Mahsa T. "Not overwhelmingly good and not overwhelmingly bad either. Â It's right in the middle."
This is why I'm glad I was using a Living Social deal to pay for my meal. Â Had this been a "full price" meal, I don't know how I would have felt.
I didn't have the best steak I've ever had, nor the absolute worst. Â I will say I did enjoy the garlic mashed potatoes I choose to accompany my steak and they make a good Bellini Martini. Â Our waitress was friendly, helpful with all the questions we had and overall we got good service.
This review is way overdue, but it shocked me at how my experience at the PM in Wheeling could be so drastically different from the one in Evanston.
Strike 1: the restaurant was cold, temperature-wise. Â Not conducive to happy customers. Â Need I say more?
Strike 2: the bread (which I RAVE about to anyone and everyone I know who sputters out the word carbs in any conversation) was overwarmed and borderline hard. Â Read: unsatisfactory to the point that I almost did not want to take it home in my doggie bag. Â (The carb monster in me prevailed.)
Strike 3: my burger, which I love ordering at PM because seriously, when can you ever go wrong with a steakhouse burger, was one of the most unimpressive I've had in any restaurant. Â It tasted like a frozen patty, and I know my burgers. Â PM should be ashamed!
And if 3 strikes isn't enough...
Strike 4: service was slow and unattentive, despite the restaurant being mostly empty.
