As good as it gets and more when you take into account this place is in Columbus IN, the home of fast and for the most part (99.999%) crappy food.
A family run business that works hard (and succeeds) putting fresh, delicious and interesting food on your plate.
Amazing considering many of the ingredients have to be trucked in from Chicago and still the prices are inexpensive (aka cheep).
The eclectic dining crowd is a testament to Colombians desire and need for fresh, well prepared food. Â
Hopefully more restaurateurs will realize there is a market for good food in Columbus and more restaurants will open following the owners model.
This restaurant is a happy place and all should be grateful this family picked Columbus.
There are no levelheaded reasons to diss this business unless.... you like the fake Mexican food at Riviera Maya, standing in line at Wendys/McD/Greasy food or eating at any of the many food service distributor restaurants (Gordon/Sysco, boxed food heated up) that proliferate throughout the city.
If you don't like Viet Nam or Japan food why are you reviewing this place? And reviews that profess to love the food, but beat up on the service make absolutely no sense to me.
The heart of a restaurant is what happens in the Kitchen, end of story. Restaurants are selling food not service. You wont' see a service price list on the menu.
From watching the contrived TV restaurant shows, we've confirmed our own experiences, if the kitchen is putting out garbage, the service is then often garbage and the owners are worse.
Bad service can always be fixed and most times, right on the spot but you can never fix the kitchen or an owner.
This place does not need to be fixed.
Just saying.
So many options! Â The veggie pho is tasty as well as the sushi and vermacelli. Â Everything comes out piping hot and at a great price.
Do not order the boxed saki. Â I repeat, do NOT order the boxed saki. Â Yes, it is cheaper than other places, however it is not nearly as smooth as other cheap saki I have had at other restaurants. Â Please Pho Shiki, find a new house saki.
Service is great. Â Each time I go, I never have to ask for another drink or a clean napkin, etc. Â The space is very clean and the decor is that of your typical ethnic, oriental restaurant. Â However, it would be nice if they replaced the super bright fluorescent fixtures in the front and towards the back of the restaurant.
Delicious! My family enjoyed the variety of choices available on the menu, from the eponymous pho (a beef broth rice noodle soup) all the way to sushi. My husband enjoyed the well-done beef pho and some lovely firm salmon rolls. I adored the shrimp and pork vermicelli (bun) - beautiful presentation and incredible taste. The plum sauce and Sriracha on the table were a welcome addition to the meal. Service was excellent - our waitress was friendly and accommodating. Â I will definitely return here!
Review Source:The best hibachi shrimp ever. Â Lots of shrimp. Â The veggies were done perfectly and so yummy I didn't even use the sauce much. Â The vermicelli was great, too. Â Very skimpy on the shrimp, though. Â The prok was very unique AND delicious! Â We prefer the oolong over the green tea. Â Reasonable prices, too. Â Their business is picking up. Â Glad to see a successful CBus restaurant. Â Tonight we are going to Ichibon in Indy and I don't think it will compare! Â The service is always great and very personable.
Review Source:I'm Vietnamese & enjoy cooking home made dishes, but some times it's nice to go out & enjoy some one elses cooking. Although I can make pho at home, there isn't much of a choice for asian grocery stores close by so I don't make pho as often as I'd like. We found this restaurant & thought we'd give it a try. We ordered Pho & some sushi (tuna & yellow tail). The pho broth was very oily, barely any noodles, & would have been nice to have had some thai basil along side the beansprouts & jalapenos. We had to order an extra side of rice noodles to add to our soup. As far as the sushi, never seen sushi served so minimal. Had to ask that there be no mayo in the sushi. Just not what sushi should be, disappointed. It was like they made it for a kindergarten class. The rolls were so little. If you know what pho & sushi should look & taste like, this is NOT the place to eat. Over priced compared to others & service was ok.
Review Source:Visited for dinner. Â I got a sushi roll and cucumber salad. Â Both very good. Â Hubby got hibachi beef, which he enjoyed. Â
Service was a little slow but we went soon after the grand opening so I expect it will continue to improve. Â Rating will go up to at least a 4 with faster service. Â
Will definitely go back.
As an update, we have been back to Pho Shiki twice since my initial review...both times, just as great! Â I tried the Nigiri/Sashimi combo #3 Â (8 nigiri, 9 sashimi) and a drunken lobster roll. Â Tempura lobster pieces in a roll with a garlic sauce on top...heavenly...but make sure whoever you're with takes a bite, too....its pretty strong garlic! Wait staff is improving each time, too...which I figured they would! So excited this place is less than a mile from me!
