Food: 3/5
Service: 3/5
Atmosphere: 2/5
I've driven by this restaurant so many times, always saying to myself, "I'm going to try this out someday." Â Well, I had visitors in town to entertain who like French food, so I thought we'd give it a try.
From the name, the outside and the tag on its website "Fine French Dining," you might think that the restaurant is upscale; at least we did! Â We made reservations expecting it to be busy at 8pm on a Friday night, and we put on 'respectable' clothes instead of being casual in our jeans and shorts. Â Much to our surprise, when we walked in at 7:45pm, the place was empty. Â The front restaurant area had a large bar with TVs and there were wooden table tents on the tables advertising beer specials - not something you expect see in a restaurant that serves Coq au Vin, Salmon, Pork, Steak, and Scallops as their main affair.
We were seated by an employee (who apologized for not being properly dressed to serve us), and then we were taken care of the rest of the meal by a young girl. Â When we asked about the wine selection, she laughed shyly and said "I don't really drink wine" (after the fact, I decided that she may not have even been 21). Â She returned to the "off-duty" employee to ask our questions about the wine selection and he returned to cork and serve the wine.
The food was plated well - maybe the only thing that I would call "fine dining." Â I tried to the traditional French items - French Onion Soup and Coq Au Vin. Â The soup was delicious and the chicken was cooked well. Â The sauce on the chicken was a bit overwhelming and the potatoes were quite bland. My guest indicated the Salmon was excellent and the Pork Medallion was so-so. Â
During the entire dinner, one other couple arrived and had a drink at the bar (no bar-tender, just the 'under-dressed' employee), otherwise the restaurant remained empty. Â There was a private event happening in the back portion of the restaurant and the music was so loud and overwhelming that we found ourselves literally yelling at each other and just smiling and laughing because we couldn't hear each other across the table. Â
As we were leaving, we noticed a billboard out front that said "Closed for Private Event" but it was turned backward and they had specials showing instead. Â I'm not sure if they were supposed to be open to the public that evening or not, but either way, it didn't appear as though they drew a big crowd to the restaurant. Â Overall, the food was passable, and the service was okay. Â The total experience wasn't anything to write home about, and I probably won't return unless I'm invited there for a private event.
My wife and I went there for lunch midweek expecting a cozy French restaurant with bistro music and a garden theme. Â We were sadly mistaken. The place was empty at the height of lunch time. Service was slow and the techno-rock music gave us a headache. Food was OK for the money but otherwise forget it. They must make their money on parties in the back area because they ain't doin' it up front.
Review Source:Service was too slow. I had to keep asking the waitress to bring me certain items and to refill my drink. I also had to ask her to clear the table in many instances. I didn't like that part of the service.
Food, on the other hand, was great! I thoroughly enjoyed my order of lamb chops with shoestring fries.
Petros, I can't thank you enough!
We needed a venue to host a tea party for the widows of our organization and didn't have many options. Some places were too expensive and some were below the standard. We wanted to impress our sweethearts and do so with a reasonable budget.
I was referred to Petros at Pierre Garden and fell in love with the place as soon as we went there for the initial meeting. Petros answered our every question and met all of our needs.
Here is how the place is set up. The front is a full bar and restaurant. The back is a banquet hall with a small stage, ample room for tables & dance floor, upstairs lounge and patio in the back. This was the perfect set up for us because we wanted everyone to spread out and feel comfortable.
Petros had arranged for live music and hired a singer and a harpist. The overall presentation was very professional and well coordinated. They provided assorted teas, finger foods, sweets and pastries. The ladies had an amazing time and the guys were in the patio smoking cigars and sharing stories.
Pierre Garden will be my first referral to all of my friends that need to host an event because this place is perfect for events like this!
We booked an event here for 22 people. Â We pre-ordered. Â We arrived on time and it took 37 minutes for the first order to arrive. Â The last guy was served after an hour. Â It's just run of the mill Mediterranean food, which is available at about a dozen restaurants in walking distance. Â It was a long wait just to get water. Â The place was empty besides us. Â Their motto is food and fun, it takes a long time for the food, an it was not fun. Â
The food was ok. Â But if you want a nice Mediterranean restaurant go to Carnival or Raffis' Place. Â I will not return here.
Okay so I went there on a Saturday night for dinner and the restaurant was empty. Â We were there around 7pm and were the only people there...this should have been the first red flag to walk out. Â
Service was horrible and very slow considering we were the only ones there (5 people group). Â It took about 10 minutes for the waitress to come get our drink order then another 10 minutes to come back with those drinks (all soda) and get food orders. Â She did not even know some of the food on the menu considering there were about 10 entree options only available. Â After orders were placed, it took her about 30 minutes to bring out the soups and that was after we had to ask the waitress how long it would take. Â I would NOT recommend their french onion soup!!!!
After that, there was another 20 minutes to bring out the entree. Â Food was okay. Â I had the steak which was pretty good and so were the lamb chops. Â The food is just really overpriced for the service and the quality you get. Â
Overall, I would definitely not recommend wasting time at this place. Â There are lots of other better restaurants walking distance from this place if you are really hungry!
The restaurant was completely empty at 1:00 p.m. which was really strange. They were streaming very intense club music, it was like hard trance or something, then is switched to gay trance dance stuff. The food was okay. I ordered hummus for like 6 bucks and then found out they didn't have pita bread or pita chips... just french bread. lmao. It is definitely a weird Armenian interpretation of what French food is... totally typical for Glendale. Music and interior were tacky, food was okay but overpriced. Wouldn't recommend it.
Review Source:I went today with my coworkers and we had the best lunch EVER. The staff was really friendly, and the food was amazing. We had the special of the day (Beef Luleh Kabob) for just 6 bucks each plate, the Eggplant Kviar, the Pierre Garden Salad, and we finished with Creme Brulee. I really hope this place sticks around because I loved everything. I know I sound like they gave me free food or something, but I honestly just wanted to complement them on the good service because I was pleasantly surprised by it. Thumbs up!
Review Source:Wow! Why does this place have such stupid reviews?! For me the food was incredible I had the st jacques scallops and they were amazing. All of these stupid comments like "the ambience is not French" or the "the Portions are too small". #1.) If you have even ever in your life even been to France then you wouldn't be making these stupid comments. French food is meant to be eaten for its flavors not to just scoff it down your throat. #2.) For French food I can tell you that the prices are cheap. Most french restaurants have menus starting from 45 dollars for a main course. The most expensive item on Pierre Garden's menu was about 27 dollars so are you people really that cheap?! Well I guess that explains why 60% of the nation is overweight and its all because of idiots like you who'd rather spend 3 dollars on some ghetto burger rather than spend a little more for good quality food. Bottom line is I'm a chef myself and I know good food when I eat it so please, DONT BE AN AMERICAN!!!
Review Source:Last night was my first visit to the Pierre Garden restaurant.  If we had paid any attention to some of the reviews on this site we would have missed out on a wonderful dinner!.  Our group of five  sampled many dishes and the food was very good.  The Mussels were a particular favorite--resplendent with a delicious garlic sauce and cooked just right.  Everyone really enjoyed the grilled salad too.  We tried the Duck breast, Kobe Beef Burger and a Pork dish.  All exceeded expectations.  .  This  cuisine is a fusion one, and a bit different, but the chef is very talented and definitely knows what he is doing.  Service was good and most willing.  Our waiter went far out of his way to accommodate our one vegetarian diner. We had a delightful evening!
Review Source:Came here for dinner, and was surprised to find the restaurant empty. In general, I thought the food was mediocre, considering the prices. The main course I ordered was a scallop dish, which consisted of 3 over-seasoned scallops topped with shrimp in sauce and cost $25. It came with no accompanying side dishes, neither rice nor vegetables. We tasted several wines, two of which were spoiled.
Review Source:Went there for a lunch last Sun. Was intrigued by the idea of a brand new French place in the neighborhood. They were very busy serving a large party so we got not so much attention even tough the waiter apologized later. The food (we took 2 appetizer and a chicken dish) were all right but what turned me off was an amazingly poor service. They had a couple of guys who were sort of waiter assistants and who did not pay attention that we did not have napkins and utensils. Also when we asked for extra lemon they brought two pieces and put them directly on the table cloth like they did not have any plates. I do not recall seeing such things in a long time. I guess, every new restaurant should ask itself: will our first time customers come here second time? My answer is: I do not know...
Review Source:Other yelpers, I feel I was lead soooo wrong. Glendale, are we that starved for a good restaurant that we are giving good reviews for nothing?
Alright, this is only my second time giving 1 star so I feel really bad. Everyone was really nice, but the place is new and just has some serious rookie mistakes. I will divide this into the service and the food.
Service
1. He was very nice.
2. You could tell this was the servers first time serving more or less. He made several rookie mistakes and was not very knowledgeable on the menu.
2. My boyfriends drink from the bar took a REALLY long time to come out. It came out a minute before our appetizer.
3. We brought in a bottle of wine knowing there was a $15 corkage fee. Our waiter did not know that. When we asked for our bottle to be opened, the waiter walked away with it and came back with it opened and the cork in on the top. Since when do you not present a wine bottle at a table? We also had no wine glasses and had to track down a busser to get some.
4. Our waiter lost track of what course we were on, and had to ask us what we last ate.
5. Our check came with all of our food still sitting on the table.
Food
1. The French Onion Soup was the best thing we had on the menu. It was pretty good. I've had better, but it was still tasty
2. The "Braised Pork" appetizer was basically a BBQ pork sandwich. Not what I was expecting at all, and just kind of lazy. Nothing unique, and it just seemed to be a poorly cooked piece of pork, covered up by smothering it in BBQ sauce. Not what I expected at a French restaurant.
3. For entrees my boyfriend had the leg of lamb and I had the burger with "truffle sauce." I could not remotely smell or taste any sort of truffle oil. The burger again was justly sloppy looking and overcooked. Such a lazy menu, which French food is definitely not. My boyfriend said that his leg of lamb would be good and what he would expect from a Denny's.
So there it is. I am sorry and again the people were very nice, just really inexperienced and not prepared, which is unacceptable for the prices customers are paying. I wish you the best of luck Pierre Garden, but you have got some SERIOUS work to do if you plan on staying open.
I went here the other night with my wife and parents. I was intrigued that this was one of the FIRST French restaurants in Glendale and they opened a week ago. I checked the on line menu and things looked good and the prices was pretty good for it being French food.
For some reason I felt compelled to order 3 appetizers. We went with the muscles, melons wrapped in prosciutto and the escargot. My favorite was the prosciutto and then the muscles and lastly the escargot. One of my biggest gripes is when you are a party of 4 and they give you 3 freaking things. That said, the escargot in a pastry. It was OK, but I have had better. I suppose that people get freaked out over snails and if you hide it under a pasty, its all good.
Next up was the entrees. I got the lamb shank. I was kind of disappointed because I expected the entire shank and it was kind of rubbery. I suppose the portion reflected the "reasonable" price. Personally, I would have rather paid more $$ and get the entire shank. My wife's trout was really good though. Lots of flavor and cooked to perfection.
Then came the micro desserts. Â The creme brulee was excellent, but 2 spoon fulls is just not enough. Something this good should be a bigger portion. Â The apple tart was a good size though. That was pretty tasty also.
To sum things up, this place does have potential. It was evident that they only have been running the place for a week or so. They need to work on giving their patrons more of a French experience so that they don't expect typical American food.
I am always happy whenever there is more diversity in the food world. In Glendale, there isn't a whole lot of diversity though and I am hoping the locals will appreciate the new flavor.
Absolutely delicious!!!! Â The french chef whips up tasty food, and the prices are totally reasonable---the most expensive dishes are only $15! Their presentations are very nice, french portion-sized, and everything is flavorful. Â Â I haven't found a good french restaurant until now. Â I got no complaints at all =)
Review Source:I have been watching construction on this restaurant going on for months now, and was surprised to see it's soft open. It used to be a Chuy's. I had no idea what to expect. My wife and I went out of curiosity. Needless to say it was a pleasant surprise. Obviously... It is French food first of all. The bar decor is pretty cool, but as you are lead into the main dinning area it looks a little more opulent than it is, however it is all easily overlooked when you actually taste the food. My wife had a great Kobe burger served on a breoche bun for an incredibly reasonable price, while I had the Pierre Garden salad. The valance of salty and sweet was perfect. Also, they had a delicious beer on tap that I had never had. As time goes on and their menu is solidified I have no question about how many times I will return to this restaurant.
