Pizza Time is a decent happy hour spot that has a fair beer selection and mediocre (but free!) pizza during HH. It's super convenient for many companies and is typically made up of primarily Merck employees. They have an upstairs and downstairs... I prefer the upstairs myself, but it may because I have a place in my heart for dingy, unkept bars. Just a quick note on the wait-staff...they suck and their personalities are terrible. If you're looking for a swanky lounge that serves apple martinis with shot girls walking around, this bar isn't for you. Pizza Time does offer very reasonable beer prices, decent food and is a good spot for a work happy hour.
Review Source:Everyone has a go to place when they come back and home and pizza time was my dad's go to, and has subsequently become my friends and my go to.
Downstairs has ample bar space and dining area with lots of TVs for game time. Â Unfortunately, as of 6 months ago, they were not in HD...its 2012! Â The beer selection for bottles is decent, but I have to admit, their draft selection is underwhelming. Â I realize their crowd mainly gets their drank on to miller lite and yuengling, but throw a brother an IPA!
Upstairs has a few pool tables and dart boards and someone is always playing music. Â Decent vibe, always fun meeting up with friends on a weekend.
Their food is great. Â I love their pizza, their bar food is delicious, and it seems like they do everything fairly well. Â Unlike most bars, their food is good enough to come here just to eat. Â
Love me some pizza time.
I like to go there for a quick dinner or take out, which is generally pretty good. Â Wraps are decent, burgers are good, sandwiches good, and overall dinners are decent. Â Usually no wait which is nice, so can get in and out pretty quickly which is nice with kids. Â During the week it is not very crowded downstairs so the kids do not have to be silent, so good place for kids.
Upstairs bar is fun during games, good atmosphere, and good beer/wing specials for gametime. Â I do like the wings, especially the hot garlic which is a great flavor. Â $8 all you can eat on Thursdays or $4 orders during games is a good deal, well worth it.
The one downside to me is the PIZZA. Â IT IS BAD. Â They call it PIZZA Time, which is really a comical name since the one thing I do not like is the Pizza. Â They put the sauce on in circles so half of the damn pizza has no sauce. Â Crust tends to be way too big too, so less pizza area. Â MUCH better places for just pizza in the area, but the other food is pretty good overall.
Happy hour on Friday is good with the free food too. Â Overall, good place for take out or a quick dinner, just avoid the Pizza.
summary ... cheap beer, meh BUT FREE pizza during happy hour
Good place for after-work happy hour. Â They have cheap beer (and a few good ones at that) and often have free pizza out to snack on. Â The downstairs is often more crowded and noisy than the upstairs, so pick a floor based on your mood. Â The pizza isn't amazing, but it makes a nice snack (and compliments the beer in your tummy).
Very average pizza. Â The crust got soggy really fast and to me that kills it. Â The garlic bread I got was also very soggy, I think because it was wrapped up this paper which absorbed all of the moisture. Â The person who I picked up my order from was a good guy. Â But well, can't get past the food.
They do have a huge menu with so much variety. Â Others ordered a bunch of other stuff. Â Maybe that stuff is better?
Okay, my disclaimer on the 4 star review is that I'm a regular here, so even though restaurant service SUCKS here (really, really, REALLY sucks), I love the upstairs bar. The downstairs bar is fine, too, but upstairs is a different kind of scene. The crowd in the whole place is best-described as eclectic. It's a huge Merck hangout, even though there are plenty of other spots nearby. Just a comfortable atmosphere, really.
The food is..fine? I mean I don't really go here just for dinner so I'm not going to say I'm overly impressed by or fond of anything in particular. Free pizza is good for free food at happy hour, and the drink specials at happy hour are great. Plus they have Magic Hat Mondays now. $2.50 pints? Yes, please!
Sorry for the formatting. Second paragraph was to be food-related but apparently I just don't eat here.
The food is pretty good, the service is quick. It's not noisy or crowded if you go off-peak, but it seems to be the go-to bar for Merck so it gets busy. On a lazy Saturday, we would sometimes go around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and gorge ourselves for a couple of hours. There always seems to be an occupant for every stool in the bar, even when the dining room only has two or three busy tables.
Ironically, I've never actually tried their pizza.
Eh...I gotta 3-star this place because it's VERY small and can get very crowded very quickly. Â Yes, this happens to be another poker bar for me. Â Monday nights, if you will - so that's how I ended up here. Â
Their food..pretty tasteless typical bar food. I only eat here if I'm really hungry or drunk ahead of time somehow. Â It's a bar & sit-in restaurant in 1 section & a pizza place in a seperate room. Â There's also a smokers bar upstairs where there's games & pool tables. Â Not too bad, but it's very hot & uncomfortable. Â I don't come here at all on my off poker days.
It's saving grace are the bartenders. Â They're always very nice.
All of my first review still applies, plus the downstairs bar is non-smoking while the upstairs is smoking for the best of both worlds, and the upstairs sports bar now has a Wii!
We recently watched the Phils win the World Series here, soaking the upstairs bar in beer from spraying bottles when they won like we were players with champagne in the locker room, so make my rating a 5.5 stars, just for that memory I'll be able to take with me for the rest of my life, even if we never win another championship again.
