It doesn't look like much from the outside and isn't even that big. This place makes HUGE portions for breakfast! My wife and I split a Denver omlette and we could not eat it all! The biscuit was the size of 4 or 5 biscuits put together. Everything tasted great. The coffee was also excellent and was served in big cups. The coffee cake really looked good and if we had not been traveling, we would have taken some with us to eat later. You will not go away hungry from this restaurant! Would definitely eat here again and recommend this to others.
Review Source:I've been here twice, both times for dinner, with my husband and son. It's a decent place to eat. The staff was friendly both times; our waitress Melissa was very attentive and personable, all three of us loved her. My boys had burgers the first time and shared a rack of ribs on the second visit; they enjoyed their food. I had chile on my first visit and found it very tasty. The second time I had clam chowder and it was sort of bland; I only ate a bit of it. On the upside I ordered a beer with it and they brought out a large mug; it was a pleasant surprise considering it was only $4, I was expecting a small glass. The prices for meals there are reasonable, not very cheap but not too pricey either.
Review Source:What a pleasant surprise. One more reason to love yelp! We were passing through on our way back to LA from Tahoe and looked up a place to eat on yelp. Not only was the food delicious, and the wait staff so nice, but we also got seated and served right away. The Bloody Mary alone was worth the trek. The b.c.c. was my favorite. I'm also a sucker for fresh flowers on the table and fresh salsa. I'd love to come back if I'm ever here again. Don't let the outward appearance fool you, this place is a gem. I only wish we had places like this is la.
Review Source:We had a gift card and I came to Yelp to read the reviews. We almost didn't come here because of them but I am so glad we did!
First, we were greeted quickly and seated quickly. They were busy but not slammed for a Friday night. We were immediately given fresh salsa (lots of cilantro, tomato and some jalapeno, yum!) and light, crisp chips.
We didn't order anything that came with the cornbread so we ordered a side. It was huge and tasty, as good as Marie Calendars and reminiscent of the old Big Yellow House.
My husband got the nachos and I got the stuffed avocado. Neither of us chose poorly because both were huge and so delicious. All of our meals were fresh looking and tasting and neither lacked flavor. I'm not a pasta salad fan but theirs was great. I am one of the pickiest people you'll ever meet and it takes a lot to impress me. I'm impressed.
Plus, our server Courtney was great, attentive, friendly and fast. She was just the icing on a really great cake.
Don't pass this place up!
I bought 2 vouchers using 1 for lunch and 1 for breakfast. I got food to go which was fast and the girl at the register was friendly the first time I was there. I ordered a chicken salad cashew sandwich and fries. The sandwich was bad. The chicken salad  tasted like it was missing something. Didn't have that much flavor. The sandwich was mainly bread and lettuce. The fries were super salty and soggy. I did get a slice of carrot cake which was pretty good.
When I went back for breakfast I had the Mexican omelet and the coffee cake. The omelet tasted like any other omelet you could get at Denny's or IHOP. The coffee cake was okay but I thought it would be better based off the reviews on here. Also my slice was small. I didn't get the nice waitress who said "Hon, the coffee cake was so small so I gave you 2 slices" LOL. The potatoes were good though.
Probably wouldn't go back unless someone insisted on going there.
My advice for those of you visiting Reno and grabbing a hearty brunch at PJ's before heading back home for a four hour drive -- get a DD. Yes... a designated driver, to make sure s/he'll be able to not eat TOO much and drive everyone else back home safely . Food coma alert.
If you're looking for a place with quantity AND quality for breakfast food, this is the spot! You'll most likely overstuff yourself with food since everything is so yummy, and they give you everything in large quantities.
PJ & Company is a cozy, bustling cafe. I love the atmosphere, and of course, the people working there! The manager was super friendly and our server was polite and patient. She even generously gave my friend two slices of coffee cake because the initial slice was "tiny," in her opinion! I took a bite of it and man, that was probably one of the best coffee cake I've ever had! Pair it with a cup of coffee and you've hit the jackpot.
Anyway, after much deliberation, I ended up ordering the vegetarian omelette. So. Freakin'. Good. Period.
I loved how they melted the cheese on the outside and the veggies inside were fresh. Even better, they took my egg-whites only request, too! A don't get me started on the potatoes... They were slightly burnt/crispy, which passes my "good potato test". These potatoes were almost just as good as Ann's Kitchen's homefries in Berkeley. I couldn't finish all of them and microwaved them the next day for lunch and they still tasted delicious. Even though the restaurant was packed, our food came out quickly!
For the price, it's definitely worth it... I ate a little over half of the whole thing and was stuffed. I could barely move afterwards. I can't wait to come back, if I'm ever back in Reno! Screw hitting the jackpot at the slot machine. Just come to PJ & Company and you hit jackpot already with their brunch items :)
Shhhiiiiza the portions are huge! My cornbread was a massive chunk that put me at maybe 40% capacity. Slather on that delicious butter and thick honey.. MMmM!
Then came the eggs and potatoes. Shoot. I probably ate a third of what was on my plate and I was stuffed. In the meanwhile I was drooling while looking at all the food my friends ordered cause it all looked delicious.
The My Denver omelet my friend had was so good and cheesy. The breakfast burritos were gigantic and looked so good man... the coffee cake, I liked it better than the ones at Hobees.
Service is everything you hope it to be. Patient, courteous, attentive, look like she's happy to be there.
We ended the meal with a good number of us agreeing that we'd be back here the next time we make a trip out to Reno. Highly recommend!
A few friends and I dropped by here after a weekend of snowboarding in Tahoe and...other activities in Reno. They acommodated us quickly despite being pretty packed and our relatively large party of 7. They even had the NFL game playing live on screens near the bar. Win.
Our waitress was courteous, friendly, and very patient. For some reason, I really liked the coffee. The first few rounds weren't your traditional burnt-bottom-of-the-pot batches you usually associate with these kinds of diners. Refills were quick and I never had an empty mug.
I ordered the corned beef hash with coffee cake. When the coffee cake came out, the waitress had given me two because she thought the pieces were too small. Aww S2 Warm, fluffy, just the right amount of sweetness, and of course complimenting the un-characteristic-of-diners coffee.
The food came out really quickly. I was pleasantly surprised. It was probably 10 minutes at most for a party of 7 to get our entire meal. Everyone devoured their meal like Gollum at Frodo's finger. Â Definitely a diner to rule them all. As a testament to their large portions, 5 of 7 had leftovers.
Delicious, quick, good service, football...I honestly don't know what I can say to knock this place. Bravo, PJ&Co. Bravo. "People Love us on Yelp!" yes. yes we do.
We stopped here for breakfast at the start of our drive back to the bay from Reno, which probably wasn't a good idea as all of us had food comas after. Portions here are ridiculous! My Denver omelette (ham, eggs, peppers, onions, cheese) was delicious and came with a huge side of potatoes. It also came with a monster biscuit, about the size of 4 normal biscuits. My leftovers lasted me another meal and a half. Service was great, our waitress was really friendly and patient with us.
Tip: The menu lists "cornbread croissant" as an item. While that sounds awesome, it's supposed to say "cornbread, croissant" (2 separate things). What a shame. Apparently people keep trying to order it. Someone should invent a cornbread croissant.
I went to Reno last weekend in search of having a great time. Little did I know that I would also enjoy a few great meals as well. I came across PJ & Co through a free local paper that had an expose on locations with great breakfast. My girlfriend and I went driving around town in search of somewhere good to eat and kinda had PJ & Co in mind. I'm glad she spotted it off the 395 or else we would of settled for something else.
The place gets busy in the morning and there isn't a lot of tables or parking spaces for that matter. Luckily, we found a stall and a table quickly. The hostess, who was also our waiteress, was charming and attentive. I had a glass of orange juice and my gf had apple juice. She lost out here because, folks, its fresh squeezed OJ. Automatically, this place gets four stars right off the back. I also had some ice water and I don't think my glass ever got below 1/2 full.
For breakfast, we both ordered the B.B.C. She got veggie while I got ham. The order comes along with PJ's potatoes, which are the best cooked breakfast potatoes I've had. The croissant itself was large and fell apart when I got half done. Nonetheless, it was very tasty.
Our server was busy but always came by to check on us. Steve, the owner, could be seen chatting up the regulars and also came by to ask us how things were. Great environment, great food, and if I do come back to Reno, I will absolutely stop by here for breakfast. Next time around, it looks like I should order the highly recommended Eggs Benedict. But I'm sticking with the fresh squeezed OJ.
I ate here awhile back. I do remember the cute diner decor. I love diner decor. Makes me feel like I'm eating homemade food. However, this place is standard food. Big portions low prices and great staff.
However, I dont understand why I happen to be the unlucky one who gets the meat not fully cooked in the middle. Like raw and mushy uncooked. I dont complain because I know they work hard and with what they have so I simply just post it in a review to let fellow yelpers know!
Okay fellow yelpers, I got to the bottom of the breakfast hours. Monday thru Friday breakfast is served till 11am. Saturdays till noon, and on Sundays until 1pm.
Cin and I met a friend for brunch on Sunday and once again PJ's did not disappoint! Our friend couldn't believe the fact they serve fresh squeezed orange juice. Â
We sat at the bar and enjoyed Michelle's great bartending and friendly demeanor. I broke from tradition and went with the eggs Benedict and on the advice of a yelp review I added the avocado. Wow! It was amazing and very filling.
Cin went with the bacon infused vodka Bloody Mary and a simple breakfast of eggs over easy with wheat toast. Â Both of which she said were excellent. Our friend, who was enjoying her Belinni had not planned eating, changed her mind after seeing the fresh fruit cup.
Steve always makes every one of his guests feel welcome and Michelle keeps all of the patrons at the bar happy.
My last few visits made me realize that every time I'm in, I always have either a dirty utensil or something floating in my water etc. I didn't realize it until I had had gone in 4 times in a two week span. Then thinking back, this seems to be a reoccurring issue throughout the years that I have been a customer.
The food is still delicious but cleanliness is a big issue for me so I am going to have to deduct a star.
Decent diner grub, but nothing special. People were raving about the fries but in all honestly they reminded me of a soggy version of In-n-Out fries, meaning they were super limp seeing as In-n-Outs are already pretty limp. My friend had the portobello sandwich on a croissant, I think this was the first time he ordered better than me. It had a nice freshness to it that was wonderful, but he had the french fries on the side and as I mentioned, no bueno. I had the spinach, ham, bacon, cheese quiche. I wonder if I had had it earlier in the day if it would've been better. The crust wasn't flakey it was squishy, I was really disappointed. But I ordered the beer battered onion rings and those were awesome and they piled that stack of onion rings super high.
Our waitress was super awesome, really nice and friendly. So big thumbs up on service, but the food was just ok in my opinion. I think breakfast is definitely the way to go at this place. I really wanted to try the eggs benny, but no breakfast after 1pm on Sundays, booooo.
Still sitting at 5 stars for their Eggs Benedict. Â We purchased the Yelp Deal so I could add place to my burger list. Â So this review is gonna focus on the burger I ordered.
I ordered the International Burger. Â Swiss, Canadian Bacon, Guacamole and the standards. Â I'll start with the patty. Â Not sure it was hand formed, tasted more like a premade patty. But it was cooked properly and juicy. Â The Guacamole was outstandingly awesome, just the right consistency and full of flavor. Â The bun is very key to me in a great burger and this bun held up well. Â Many times a great burger will miss perfection based on the weakness of the bun. Â Good solid bun. Â They were regrettably not serving fries yet, so I opted for the Broccoli Cheese soup. Â Still amazing after all these years. Â But the fries are to notch here. Â Longer skin on fresh fries.
So for this review, I would put PJ & Co on my "burgers to eat" list for Reno.
I usually go here for breakfast, and it is good except their potatoes. Â OWNERS- if you are reading this, they suck. Â
Anyway, we bought the Living Social deal and went in for dinner. Â Their lunch and dinner menu is about 20 years past its prime. Â You should really update your choices. Â I had the patty melt which was average at best. Â The fries were decent and a lot of them. Â The girlfriend got the taco salad and it was average as well.
I will go back for the chicken fried steak but hold the spuds!!
Reading the reviews, I thought I may had found a place equal to or better than Peg's. Â I soon found out I was wrong.
My family and I popped in at P J's on Monday, July 30, 2012 for breakfast.
We sat outside on the patio and ordered a variety of drinks, including a Bloody Mary for dear old dad.
Our meals ranged from their Eggs Benedict to Biscuits and Gravy.
The food was good, but not quite up to par with Peg's. Â The only great thing that separates P J's from Peg's is the serving of alcohol. Â I wish Peg's offered Bloody Mary's in the AM.
An overall hearty, decent and enjoyable meal. Â I'm glad I tried it.
Wanted to find a place to eat after a basketball game at the Reno Convention Center and found really high ratings of PJ & Company on Yelp. Â Yelpers did not disappoint!
Parking was easy out front, portions were huge for the brunch items we ordered, they accepted card, and the staff was really friendly.
It was busy but we didn't have to wait on Sunday morning around 11am.
Based on the Bar Area looks like they have great happy hour too and a good place to watch sports as all the TV's were playing Nascar stuff that morning.
I got the breakfast burrito but don't expect to pick it up and eat it! It had so many things on top it the only way to attack is with a fork and knife! Â The breakfast burrito had eggs, potatoes, your choice of meat and slathered with guacamole and salsa. Â Also had some beans with cheese on it, potatoes, and a few slices of fruit.
I was in a total food coma after that.
My boyfriend got the Bay Shrimp Omelet that had sherried cream cheese that was DELICIOUS. Â He's 6'4 and didn't finish it all. It was huge.
I'd be down to come back and try out more brunch or even other meals since they have lunch available.
Just a solid breakfast place that is great to catch up with friends. This is almost a locals joint that is small so could run into a wait if on Sunday. I have been here several times and the breakfast burrito has never left me disappointed. Also just a heads up the servings are quite large so make sure don't over order. Also bloody marys here are perfect! The service is good and frienly which I truly appreciate after a long night or just with friends.
I have never been here for lunch but have heard good things.
Came here and missed breakfast. so we had lunch instead nothing sounded good but we went ahead and ordered anyways. the bf got a bacon cheese burger, and I the cashew chicken sandwich. the burger at in & out taste better and i'm pretty sure better for you, the chicken sandwich was alright nothing special. the burger & sandwich were around $10 each and honestly for what we paid i'm pretty sure we could've gotten it better somewhere else. the only thing that i guess i liked here were the fries.
did do breakfast, i would like to try it but i can't justify a good reason to force myself to wake up early just for it. esp when their lunch was bleh.......
The only thing that pushed this to three stars was the coffee was decent, the coffee delivery system worked great, and the waitress let us order breakfast even though they were about two minutes away from stopping breakfast and starting lunch. The service here is great.
But I should have ordered lunch.
The Denver omelette was a large, dry mass of eggs- scrambled- with onions, ham, and peppers mixed in, topped with a thick, gooey mess of cheese. The cheese seemed to be about a half inch thick.
Sorry. For over ten dollars, I expect the guy to know how to make an omelette, instead of scrambling eggs into an omelette shape and hiding it under a shit load of cheese.
There were no hash browns, so I ordered the "PJ's Potatoes." I left about four fifths of them on my plate, which is unusual for me. They were just.... I dunno... nothing. The wife left hers, too. I think we may have hurt the waitress's  feelings when she asked if we wanted to take them home and we both said, "No, thanks."  I really don't know what to say about these potatoes, other than don't bother to order them. They're pretty plain, tasteless, and boring.
Was it because we came in late? I feel guilty about coming in late and with that guilt comes an extra star, just in case. But I don't think I'll be back during normal breakfast hours to try again.
We've been in here for breakfast a ton of times, but never had lunch or dinner until tonight. After another great PJs experience, its time to update my 5 star breakfast review with an equally glowing 5 star dinner review. To start, let me say that this place is the bomb and everyone should eat there - its a true hidden gem here in Reno. The dinner menu is an eclectic mix of burgers, sandwiches, salads, ribs, and Mexican dishes. All kinds of great stuff.
Tonight my Dad and I both had the burgers--the ortega burger to be specific and it was amazing. Big slices of mild green peppers and tasty jack cheese on an onion roll. Awesome. One of the best burgers I've had around here. Mine came with a mountain of fries, perfectly prepared. What really stood out though were the onion rings that came with my Dad's dinner. These were the best onion rings I've ever had. Just perfectly prepared. And there were a ton of them. As great as the fries were, these rings blew me away.
They have a nice mix of beers on tap, all of which are very reasonably priced. Service was great too. Within seconds of being seated we had water, tortilla chips and salsa and our drink order was taken quickly thereafter. The meal order was the same way. Everything came out quickly and piping hot and our waitress checked back and never let our glasses get empty. She was super friendly too. Just outstanding.
One thing to note, they have a nice happy hour menu with lots of apps and great drink and beer specials. Runs every day from 3-6, something I definitely plan to check out.
Brunch here is good, so rich and tasty that after devoured our meals we had to go back and take a nap at the hotel.
Found this place on Yelp after we had gone to the The Great Reno Balloon Race to find it completely packed with patrons. Of course we had to have the famous eggs benedict as mentioned in every review as well as the biscuit in gravy. I ordered the omelet with cheese and avocado.
All the rich buttery goodness of the meal with a side of fresh squeezed OJ was perfection. It was so rich in fact that we were unable to finish our meal.
Left in a full somewhat comatose state of euphoria. It was nice. What followed was the best 3 hour nap ever. Thanks PJ & Co, fabulous way to end an early morning.
This place has all the details we look for in a breakfast place.
Huge mug of hot, delicious coffee means no panic when I'm running low and it STAYS hot before it's gone. The juice really is fresh squeezed. The fruit bowl is gigantic.
Loved the outdoor seating. We had it all to ourselves for our weekday brunch.
Loved the banana nut pancakes with the heated maple syrup and whipped butter. And it was real maple syrup.
Tasted the Man-sicle's eggs Benedict and it was delicious. He cleaned the whole enormous plate.
We ate here the day after eating at Peg's so the comparison is fresh. Price was identical. PJ's wins for the details. Parking was better; Even the bathroom was nicer. We'll be back.
You get what you pay for, is the old cliche. At Pj's you get even more than this. Their portions are huge, and prices are very reasonable.
My favorite dish here is their fajitas. They are more than enough to share between two people. They come loaded with either steak or chicken, lots of bell pepers and onions and a sizzling plate. Then in another plate you have the rice, beans, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. You build your own taco so to speak.
Another good dish is avocado halves stuffed with bay shrimp and pasta.
Their drinks are excellent. Fresh squeezed OJ for your Mimosa is what the doctor ordered for my Vitamin C deficiency, just not in so many words.
Lastly, it is always a good sign when you see the owner at an establishment every time you visit. He's a nice fella too.
If you're looking for simple American food served in hearty portions and you're tired of all the cafes and buffets advertised in the casinos, this is the place to go.
The outside is an old building with its own parking lot for patrons. The inside is decorated with retro posters advertising anything from dirt biking to hot air ballooning to the Reno rodeo in the 80s and 90s.
There is a bar, where the 3 flat screens playing various games and races are definitely not old-fashioned, and a decent selection of hard alcohol. They have a wider selection of beer, ranging from $3 for domestic, $4.25 for imported, and $3-5 for those on tap. And for those who want a lil something with their breakfast, they also offer bloody marys and mimosas.
The table seating area is pretty big, so we were sat right away despite this place's popularity with the locals. The service was excellent--our waitress was prompt, very friendly, and helpful when she asked if we were from out of town (What gave us away? The only 4 Asian people in a restaurant full of white people, many sporting comfortable flannels or well-worn cowboy boots?)
And the food--yummy! The portions, like I said, are hefty. We ordered the international burger (burger w/ Canadian bacon, guacamole, tomatoes, and swiss), the BLTA (BLT w/ avocado), the BBQ beast sandwich (roast beef w/ cheddar and chiles), and the chicken breast sandwich (which actually comes with a burger bun). The burgers come with fries that can be subbed for beer battered onion rings for $1, and the sandwiches comes with a soup, fries, salad, potato salad, or cottage cheese. The onions rings were fat and the onions inside were tender and didn't come out of the batter. The potato cheddar soup was delicious, as was the rest of the food. Too bad they don't serve breakfast all day--I would've loved to try some of their breakfast foods!
Note to self: don't ever order pancakes if you're planning on doing yoga five hours later.
But I was craving pancakes! What the hell was I supposed to do, MAKE THEM MYSELF!? So I ordered - even though I wanted the Huevos Rancheros, the biscuits and gravy, whatever else except pancakes - a pancake sandwich: 2 fried balls of flour, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and a side of cornbread.
We ate the cornbread first, slathered with butter and honey because that's what you DO with cornbread. No butter came with the pancakes. I ate one egg, one bacon, and had about four bites of the pancake before I asked for a container to bring home.
She asked if I wanted a bloody mary - YES! YES I DID THANK YOU, but that's more like a meal to me, and I wanted pancakes.
Service was good, it's definitely a sports pub, and get a cornbread. Maybe you can pair it with a bloody mary? Nomnomnom-faceplant.
We were waiting for Costco to open and were hungry, ended up randomly driving and found this place. Â It was right before the Boise game where we WON! Â There was a table full of Boise peeps, but we resisted the urge to walk out. Â Glad we did!
I asked the server what she recommended...she said Huevos Rancheros - SOLD. Â If you like cheese (my husband has a mild additction), get the Huevos Rancheros...yum. Â
Great little pub/diner...I will be back. Â Especially if I have a hang over and need a bunch of greasy cheese. Â Oh yeah.
Wishing to escape the Grand Sierra Resort for my last meal in Reno, I followed the advice of my fellow Yelpers to check our PJ & Company for some good ol' fashioned American diner food.
I guess anywhere outside a casino is pretty much a locals haunt, and the bar flies here were evidence of that. Seeing the chicken-fried steak special on the white board, my gastric juices started to flow and I had to have it. Tragically, having arrived at 2, we missed breakfast, and it took me a while to recover and switch gears to lunch mode. Why stop serving breakfast when you're not open for dinner? Goes against protocol.
Upon advice attained from our server, who was very friendly and hospitable, I went for the bacon and blue cheese burger. Very nice, indeed. She also said the fries were good, but I have to disagree. If you like In 'n' Out fries, you will like these, but I do not. I like my fries twice-cooked to crispy outstide/fluffy inside, but these were not crispy at all. They do give you like 7lbs overflowing off your plate, so if you're into volume, you will love this place.
I can see this tiny place getting armpit-to-asshole for breakfast, so I don't know if this will be on my list when I come back to Reno.
This is a great local spot but the quality of their burgers has nosedived. Â Not sure what happened but they appear to be prefabricated and no longer hand pressed. Â The breakfast menu is limited but everything is of good flavor and quality. Â They have the best french fries in town and a good selection of tap beers and even some nice Mexican dishes for lunch and dinner. Â But since the quality of the burgers has regressed, I just can't give this place more than 3 starts. Â The service is friendly and is worth an extra half star but I hate it when places serve plain-jane burgers and charge $10...it's just not right! Â
I hope they hear my cries as this place had some of the juiciest ground beef in town for the price. Â Don't be Bully's PJ & Co and upgrade the ground beef pronto!
Can we talk about amazing??
It's been YEARS since I was at PJ's, so when I got the invite from the Daddy-O to meet for holiday breakfast, I was down. Little did I realize what lay ahead.
I ordered the Breakfast Burrito which came with beans covered in cheese, potatoes and a burrito not only full to the brim with scrumdiddlyumptious fillings but topped with avocado, sour cream AND salsa. Wowza. I could only eat half, but it was the best half of a breakfast I've ever had. (I've posted a pic for your wandering eyes)
Four stars for the food, an extra star for the constant pouring of coffee. Keep it coming you saucy minx you.
