Came in for beer and dinner and will not be back. Had the nachos which were decent once they actually arrived. Had to wait 20 mins before our first drink order was even taken. Â Ordered clam strips for dinner and received over fried rocks. Only ended up having one beer as I sat empty for another 30 after finishing the first. Will not be back!
Review Source:PK O'Ryan's is a small intimate Irish themed pub in Worthington. The laid back, intimate, cozy feel makes it a great place for dinner with friends. I have always attended where you seat yourself, and there is only a handful of close together tables. I like to order the Ruben with fries which are beer battered for extra crispness. The Guinness is probably the most Irish thing here as the rest of the menu is just typical bar food. .
Service is is just the right mix of attentive but not overbearing, always friendly and adds to the laid back atmosphere.
This place holds it own against a very similar restaurant across the street.
Went here for St Patrick's day thinking there would be a bunch of people. Nope. It's a tiny place to with the sit down restaurant next door. There bear selection is nice, exactly what I like. Gunnies, Murphy's Irish crème, really strong irish coffee (they add Jameson to there's) and really good food. We both had the Rueben which was top notch and probably the best one I've ever had; lightly toasted rye bread with just enough thousand island dressing drizzled over the lightly salted corn beef..and perfect...oh so perfect....sauerkraut (just the right amount of salt), and the cheese melted everything together so perfectly into the best thing I've had in such a long time.
Not to mention a family owned business that loves what they're doing. It shows. I love this place.
I really want to go to Ireland someday. Â I'd love to check out the food and meet some people there. Â Unfortunately, it's not in the budget.
So, I check out Irish Pubs instead. Â
I've been to PK's several times over the years but it had been probably 5 years since my last visit. Â I recommended it to my friend Bre when we were deciding where to go for dinner. Â Bre, being up for most anything, said yeah.
Just so you know, PK's has two parts. Â There's the front dining room which has a small bar, booths and tables. Â The back part, where we sat at the bar, is the pub area. Â It has a slightly bigger bar and a lot of tables crammed into a pretty small place. Â It's tight but not too tight.
My take on it is that it is comfortable, but there's nothing spectacular about the place. Â The ambiance is not too terribly Irish, it's just enough to call it so. Â The food isn't really Irish, it's your typically American bar food. Â It's good though.
I got the Ruben this time, and I've had it before. Â Not my favorite sandwich by any means, but theirs hits the spot. Â Beef is tender and has a good flavor. Â Would definitely recommend it along with the fries. Â BTW, I got mine with cole slaw instead of the sauerkraut as I hate sauerkraut with a passion. Â I think it's a waste of good cabbage.
I'd highly recommend the fries. Yum!
The bartender was nice and unobtrusive. Â Checked back just enough for me. Â They also score points with me for having Belhaven's Scottish Ale. Â Not everyone has it, but I will get it anytime it's on the menu.
My Ruben and fries was $10.50 which was a little high in my book. Â Belhaven's was $5.25 each, which is pretty reasonable.
I wouldn't hesitate going back again.
I'd been a 1x/wk regular when I worked near PK's, but haven't been there in about a year. Â My wife and I went for breakfast so we could get their coffee cake, which is always excellent.
We were some of the first people there, got our coffee, ordered (omelet, french toast, pecan roll, and coffee cake), and waited. Â Service was a bit slow, but it was the first thing in the morning, and perhaps they weren't all awake yet. Anyway, the coffee cake and pecan roll came first. Â The pecan roll was servicable, but it's not their usual coffee cake. Â Unfortunately, neither was the piece of coffee cake we got. Â It was overcooked. Â We sent it back and while we were waiting the omelet and french toast came. Â Eventually, after another batch of coffee cake got made we got a fresh piece done the way we were expecting. Â Excellent. Â And the coffee cake was on the house.
Another note, if you like Douwe Egbert coffee, that's what they serve. Â It's a mellow, steamed coffee. Â Some people like it. Â Others don't. Â We do, so we're happy with it.
Their Reuben will make your taste buds explode. Â I actually don't even like Reuben's but I love this one. Â My favorite is their tuna melt when they have it. Â Always get the beer battered fries. Â They have a very friendly staff and usually a good beer selection. Â Sit in the bar in the back if you can, the atmosphere is better. Â Another very nice thing is that it usually isn't packed.
Review Source:I've always liked this place. It is comfortable, though nothing spectacular. It is definitely not very Irish on the food, but they have a simple, easy menu that is great for what it is. The servers on the restaurant side are always a bit overextended on weeknights, but apologetic and nice.
You can sit, have a good beer and talk. It ain't much, but then it doesn't hold itself out to be anything more than it is.
There was a big party going on so it was pretty amusing to watch older people getting down to Lagy Gaga. It seems this is a local spot for people to hang out and the staff is very nice. We had a great waitress and the food was good. Not great, the portions were rather small so we won't be back. I had the Salmon salad and was not full at all and for $11.50 I was expecting more. They do have happy hour till 6pm and my son got chicken fingers which were the best part of our whole meal a huge basket with breast pieces fried well at half price. My husband got the reuben with fries and onion rings, fries and rings were good both beer battered but the sandwhich was small and soggy. In all it was still a nice evening but we left kind of hungry.
Review Source:I used to think of PKs as overflow for those that didn't get a seat at the teeny-tiny Bag of Nails across the street. It does stand on it's own and I have gone here on purpose and will again. It continues to improve.
Atmosphere - there are two areas the dining room area or the bar. I have been in both, most recently in the dining area. It's pretty generic. Some of the tables are a little too close. I resisted the compulsion to introduce myself to the couple next to me since I would be within clear ear shot of their conversation.
Quality/Cost - right were you would expect. PKs is in line with a chain restaurant. The menu is extensive and everything is probably a buck or two more than it needs to be. Just because they can. A location in Old Worthington and having plenty of customers will do that. The food is decent. I have yet to find something that's a knock out. The club sandwich (8.99) I had this night was well prepared. The side of fresh fruit needed some work, but it is winter I should have went with something else.
Service - it was seat yourself on a busy Friday. They must have been short a few people. Our server nice enough in the few cameos she had. I recall an apology at one point. I asked about a beer and she didn't know the answer so she just handed me the menu again.
I have been here many times and never had that great of an experience. Â My most recent visit was today during the Farmer's Market.
Being from the area, I know the Farmer's Market brings utter chaos to most of the businesses in the area. Â Some handle it well and others just don't. Â We had to wait for an outdoor seating which is expected. Â The service was just slow! Â She took our order - nothing fancy - and it took over 30 minutes to get us our food! Â We asked what was going on & the server blamed it on the inside being busy. Â She didn't check on us during the wait or assure us the food would be coming soon. Â I think we got our food about 40 minutes in. Â We asked for our checks right away and that took another 20 minutes. Â Add in another 5-7 minutes for processing them and we were finally done! Â Losing an hour during the awesome Worthington Farmer's market makes you miss out on food. Â We had no idea that we'd lose all that time. Â We won't make that mistake again.
I've been to both the restaurant and the pub side twice each. While I like the atmosphere more on the pub side, the service is always better, and it's always easier to get a table on the restaurant side. If you are going with a group and/or children, go to the restaurant side.
You can't go wrong with their Irish stew. Bread bowl+hearty, chunky stew= happy camper. Their chili is also really good, thick and full of meat. I tried a special one time-- a tuna salad sandwich that was phenom. I wish it was a normal menu item!
After our AWESOME server told us they got their meat fresh every day from Carfagna's and ground it in house, I couldn't say no. I try not to cheat on O'Reilly's with other burgers, but my wicked hangover had me craving a juicy burger. I treated myself and ordered it medium rare with  American cheese. It was SO juicy, so perfectly cooked- it was really delicious.
Their fries are good and crispy, and they have cool apps like Irish Nachos with corned beef and sauerkraut. Their beer selection is really good, and they have awesome mixed drinks (tons of Mojito options).
I would suggest trying the restaurant side for your first trip, because the service is WAY better and WAY faster. The juke box on the pub side is AMAZING. Literally one of the best juke boxes ever (Wilco, Mummfrod and Sons, Zeppelin).
Met a group of friends here for dinner and drinks and had a great time!
Next time I go, I'm going with the irish stew...it looked delicious and my friends who had been there before raved about it. Â Had the fish and chips instead and wasn't bad. Â PBR was on tap for a reasonable price so I gave it a try for old times sake.
The atmosphere for me was what made the experience. Â Friendly and comfortable; almost like I'd been there before. Â Looking forward to my next trip back!
First red flag: Â I asked the guy taking our order if they had Bangers on their menu and he looked at me like I had a third eye and said he doesn't know what bangers are. Â Whoah! Â I was sitting in an Irish pub no?
Anyway, I was visiting from out of town and definately got the feeling like I wasn't welcome. Â I was polite, and I tipped well when I paid but their staff didn't seem to care to have us there. Â We had to end up taking our food out since the kid we had with us was fussing and we didn't want to torture the rest of the pub with his crying. Â Before you said anything about having a kid there, we actually called in to ask if it was ok to bring in a 15 month there to grab a bite to eat and the person on the phone said it was fine and that they were family friendly.
The food we had wasn't too bad, the irish nachos were interesting and fun, but the fish and chips were definately a fail. Â maybe that was my fault for ordering fish and chips in an Irish pub in Ohio?? I don't know. Â All three staff members were overall pretty rude to us so 1 star only for the Irish nachos.
We went over to DVT (Dublin Village Tavern) later to eat with my friend's husband and everyone there was so nice, it was like night and day. Â What gives??? Â I'd just go to DVT over PK's any day. Â Plus DVT serves bangers and mash.
I stopped here for dinner tonight based on the review of Shawnie, who's advice I hold in high regard. Â
This is pretty funny because out of ten tables or so in the dining room, none of them had eaten yet. Â So by the time the kitchen got to my order, I was starving! Â But it was all worth waiting for. Â The fish was delicious, as were the cole slaw and fries. Â There were three nice sized pieces and it was all I could do to finish it.
If I have one complaint, it was that the price was a little high. Â I'd have felt better if the fish had been a couple of dollars cheaper, but again, it was a great meal so no sense complaining.
But one more thing, they were playing music off of CD's on someone's private machine. Â I don't believe that's legal.
In a city full of Irish pubs, PK O'Ryans is one of my favorites. It is small, friendly and makes a mean fish-n-chips! One might think there isn't enough room for two pub-style restaurants in Worthington, but there is. This has a very different vibe that the Bag of Nails Pub (which I also really like!) directly across the street.
PK's may not look any more authentic that other Irish-themed bars here in Columbus, but it certainly offers a unique hospitality reminiscent of the Emerald Isle. The bartenders have always been super friendly, but I think it's the food that grabs me the most.
The pub shares the kitchen (and menu) with the adjacent restaurant of the same name, though they are two separate areas. The dining room is in the front of the building which faces high Street, but the entrance to the pub is on the side. While the menu is loaded with upscale pub food, pizzas and breakfasts, the Irish Stew is a stand out. And again, in a city full of great fish-n-chips, PK's fish-n-chips are probably my favorite. These two items seem closest to what I've had in the UK.
PK's has a full bar, but also carries a fine selection of bottled and draught beers, including some Irish favorites: Kinsale Irish Lager, Bass, Killians, Guinness, Boddingtons, Murphy's Stout, Stella Artois, Smithwicks Ale, and Newcastle.
Pk O'Ryan's is a nice alternative to the Bag of Nails.
