It has been years since I last ate at Silla. I stopped eating there because service was really sketchy. I returned because I thought it was about time to give them a try. Boy has it changed.
First off, for those who haven't been to Silla, it is down the alley next to the Sears. Just wanted to clarify as some people may not realize that.
Okay, now back to the service, our server was very friendly, joked with us and was somewhat attentive. I say somewhat because the restaurant was relatively empty (2 other customers), and so a few more visits to check on our drinks would have been great.
Food time. We had a bunch of friends so we ordered a seafood pancake, a dish called young ja mandoo (I think), a couple of Cass beers and some other miscellaneous dishes that I cannot recall. I'm a sucker for seafood pancakes. Every Korean restaurant I enter I want to order one as an appetizer. Theirs was a little thicker than what I'm used to, but still pretty tasty.
The young ja mandoo was something new for me. (The waiter made it point to let me know that was her name as well, Young Ja). Anyways, it is a plate for sharing. 20 fried mandoo (dumplings) arranged in a circle with what I would call a kimchee/shredded vegetable salad in the middle. Perfect group food and the salad is great with rice. Spicy and light.
Also, after Kikyo's went into the toilet, Silla's, which closes at 2 am, is now my new late night Korean grub place, with karaoke!
